Hebrews - Chapter: 11

>
11:1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the euidence of things not seen.
11:2For by it the Elders obtained a good report.
11:3Through faith we vnderstand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seene were not made of things which doe appeare.
11:4By faith Abel offered vnto God a more excellent sacrifice then Kain, by which he obtained witnes that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead, yet speaketh.
11:5By faith Enoch was translated, that he should not see death, and was not found, because God had translated him: For before his translation he had this testimonie, that he pleased God.
11:6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for hee that commeth to God, must beleeue that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seeke him.
11:7By faith Noah being warned of God of things not seene as yet, moued with feare, prepared an Arke to the sauing of his house, by the which he condemned the world, and became heire of the righteousnesse which is by faith.
11:8By faith Abraham when he was called to goe out into a place which hee should after receiue for an inheritance, obeyed, and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
11:9By faith hee soiourned in the land of promise, as in a strange countrey, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Iacob, the heires with him of the same promise.
11:10For hee looked for a citie which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11:11Through faith also Sara her selfe receiued strength to conceiue seede, and was deliuered of a child when she was past age, because she iudged him faithful who had promised.
11:12Therfore sprang there euen of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the starres of the skie in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
11:13These all died in faith, not hauing receiued the promises, but hauing seene them a farre off, and were perswaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
11:14For they that say such things, declare plainly that they seeke a countrey.
11:15And truly if they had been mindfull of that countrey, from whence they came out, they might haue had opportunitie to haue returned:
11:16But now they desire a better countrey, that is, an heauenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to bee called their God: for he hath prepared for the a city.
11:17By faith Abraham when he was tried, offered vp Isaac: and he that had receiued the promises, offered vp his onely begotten sonne,
11:18Of whom it was said, That, in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
11:19Accounting that God was able to raise him vp, euen from the dead: from whence also he receiued him in a figure.
11:20By faith Isaac blessed Iacob and Esau concerning things to come.
11:21By faith Iacob when hee was a dying, blessed both the sonnes of Ioseph, and worshipped leaning vpon the top of his staffe.
11:22By faith, Ioseph when hee died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel: and gaue commandement concerning his bones.
11:23By faith; Moses when hee was borne was hid three moneths of his parents, because they saw he was a proper childe, and they not afraid of the Kings commandement.
11:24By faith Moses when hee was come to yeeres, refused to bee called the sonne of Pharaohs daughter,
11:25Chusing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, then to enioy the pleasures of sinne for a season:
11:26Esteeming the reproch of Christ greater riches then the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect vnto the recompense of the reward.
11:27By faith hee forsooke Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he indured, as seeing him who is inuisible.
11:28Through faith he kept the Passeouer, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the first borne, should touch them.
11:29By faith they passed through the red sea, as by drie land: which the Egyptians assaying to do, were drowned.
11:30By faith the walles of Iericho fell downe, after they were compassed about seuen dayes.
11:31By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that beleeued not, when shee had receiued the spies with peace.
11:32And what shall I more say? For the time would faile mee to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Sampson, and of Iephthah, of Dauid also and Samuel, and of the Prophets:
11:33Who through faith subdued kingdomes, wrought righteousnesse, obteined promises, stopped the mouthes of Lions,
11:34Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakenesse were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
11:35Women receiued their dead raised to life againe: and others were tortured, not accepting deliuerance, that they might obtaine a better resurrection.
11:36And others had triall of cruell mockings and scourgings, yea moreouer, of bonds and imprisonment.
11:37They were stoned, they were sawen asunder, were tempted, were slaine with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskinnes, and goat skins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented.
11:38Of whome the world was not worthy: they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dennes and caues of the earth.
11:39And these all hauing obtained a good report through faith, receiued not the promise:
11:40God hauing prouided some better thing for vs, that they without vs, should not be made perfect.

11:1Faith is a sure confidence of thinges which are hoped for, and a certaynte of thinges which are not sene.
11:2By it ye Elders were well reported of.
11:3Thorow faith we vnderstonde, that the worlde and all the thinges which are sene, were made of naughte by the worde of God.
11:4By faith offered Abell vnto God a more plenteous sacrifice: by the which he optayned wytnesse, that he was righteous: God testifyenge of his giftes, by the which also he beynge deed, yet speaketh.
11:5By faith was Enoch take awaye, that he shulde not se death: and was not founde, because God had taken him awaye. For afore he was taken awaye, he had recorde that he pleased God.
11:6But without faith it is vnpossible to please God. For he that commeth vnto God, must beleue that God is, & yt he is a rewarder of them that seke him.
11:7By faith Noe honoured God, after yt he was warned of thinges which were not sene, & prepared the Arke, to ye sauinge of his housholde: thorow the which Arke he condemned the worlde, and became heyre of the righteousnes, which commeth by faith.
11:8By faith Abraham (wha he was called) obeyed, to go out in to the place, which he shulde afterwarde receaue to inheritaunce: and he wente out, not knowynge whither he shulde go.
11:9By faith was he a straunger in the lode of promes as in a straunge countre, & dwelt in tabernacles: and so dyd Isaac & Iacob, heyres with him of the same promes:
11:10for he loked for a cite which hath a foundacion, whose buylder and maker is God.
11:11By faith Sara also receaued strength to be with childe, and was delyuered of a childe whan she was past age, because she iudged him to be faithfull which had promysed.
11:12And therfore spronge there of one (yee euen off one which was as good as deed concernynge the body) so many in multitude as the starres off the skye, and as the sonde off the See shore, which is innumerable.
11:13All these dyed acordinge to faith, and receaued not the promyses, but sawe the afarre off, and beleued them, and saluted them: and cofessed, that they were straungers & pilgrems vpo earth.
11:14For they that saye soch thinges, declare, that they seke a naturall countre.
11:15And doutles yf they had bene myndefull off that countre from whence they came out, they had leysure to haue returned agayne.
11:16But now they desyre a better, that is to saye, a heauely. Wherfore God is not ashamed of the, eue to be called their God: for he hath prepared a cite for them.
11:17By faith Abraha offered vp Isaac, wha he was tempted, and gaue ouer his onely begotten sonne, in whom he had receaued the promyses,
11:18of whom it was sayde: In Isaac shal thy sede be called:
11:19For he considered, yt God was able to rayse vp agayne from the deed. Therfore receaued he him for an ensample.
11:20By faith Isaac blessed Iacob and Esau, concernynge thinges to come.
11:21By faith Iacob, whan he was a dyenge, blessed both the sonnes off Ioseph, & bowed himselfe towarde the toppe of his cepter.
11:22By faith Ioseph whan he dyed, remembred ye departynge of the childre of Israel, & gaue comaundemet concernynge his bones.
11:23By faith Moses wha he was borne, was hyd thre monethes of his Elders, because they sawe that he was a proper childe, nether feared they the kynges comaundemet.
11:24By faith Moses whan he was greate, refused to be called the sonne of Pharaos doughter:
11:25and chose rather to suffre aduersite with the people of God, then to enioye ye pleasures of synne for a season:
11:26and estemed the rebuke of Christ greater riches, then the treasure of Egipte: for he had respecte vnto the rewarde.
11:27By faith he forsoke Egipte, and feared not the fearcenes of the kynge: for he endured, eue as though he had sene him which is inuisible.
11:28By faith he helde Easter, and the effusion of bloude, lest he which slewe the firstborne, shulde touche them.
11:29By faith they passed thorow the reed See as by drye londe: which wha the Egipcians assayed to do, they were drowned.
11:30By faith the walles of Iericho fell, wha they were compased aboute seuen dayes.
11:31By faith the harlot Raab perished not with the vnbeleuers, wha she had receaued the spyes to lodginge peaceably.
11:32And what shal I more saye? ye tyme wolde be to shorte for me to tell of Gedeon, of Barac, and of Samson, & of Iepthae, and of Dauid, and Samuel, and of the prophetes,
11:33which thorow faith subdued kyngdomes, wroughte righteousnes, optayned ye promyses, stopped ye mouthes of lyos
11:34quenched the violece of fyre, escaped ye edge of the swerde, of weake were made stronge, became valeaunt in batayll, turned to flighte the armyes of the aleauntes,
11:35the wemen receaued their deed agayne from resurreccion. But other were racked, and accepted no delyueraunce, that they mighte optayne the resurreccion that better is.
11:36Other taisted of mockinges and scourginges, of bondes also and presonment:
11:37were stoned, were hewen a sunder, were tempted, were slayne with the swerde, wente aboute in shepe skynnes and goates skynnes, in nede, in tribulacion, in vexacion,
11:38which (men) the worlde was not worthy of: they wandred aboute in wyldernesses, vpon mountaynes, in dennes and caues of the earth.
11:39And these all thorow faith optayned good reporte, and receaued not ye promes:
11:40because God had prouyded a better thinge for vs, that they without vs shulde not be made perfecte.

11:1But feith is the substaunce of thingis that ben to be hopid, and an argument of thingis not apperynge.
11:2And in this feith elde men han gete witnessyng.
11:3Bi feith we vndurstonden that the worldis weren maad bi Goddis word, that visible thingis weren maad of vnuysible thingis.
11:4Bi feith Abel offride a myche more sacrifice than Caym to God, bi which he gat witnessyng to be iust, for God bar witnessyng to hise yiftis; and bi that feith he deed spekith yit.
11:5Bi feith Ennok was translatid, that he schulde not se deth; and he was not foundun, for the Lord translatide him. For bifore translacioun he hadde witnessing that he pleside God.
11:6And it is impossible to plese God without feith. For it bihoueth that a man comynge to God, bileue that he is, and that he is rewardere to men that seken hym.
11:7Bi feith Noe dredde, thorouy answere takun of these thingis that yit weren not seyn, and schapide a schip in to the helthe of his hous; bi which he dampnede the world, and is ordeyned eir of riytwisnesse, which is bi feith.
11:8By feith he that is clepid Abraham, obeiede to go out in to a place, whiche he schulde take in to eritage; and he wente out, not witinge whidur he schulde go.
11:9Bi feith he dwelte in the loond of biheest, as in an alien loond, dwellynge in litle housis with Ysaac and Jacob, euene heiris of the same biheest.
11:10For he abood a citee hauynge foundementis, whos crafti man and maker is God.
11:11Bi feith also the ilke Sara bareyn, took vertu in consceyuyng of seed, yhe, ayen the tyme of age; for sche bileuede hym trewe, that hadde bihiyte.
11:12For which thing of oon, and yit nyy deed, ther ben borun as sterris of heuene in multitude, and as grauel that is at the see side out of noumbre.
11:13Bi feith alle these ben deed, whanne the biheestis weren not takun, but thei bihelden hem afer, and gretynge hem wel, and knoulechide that thei weren pilgryms, and herboryd men on the erthe.
11:14And thei that sayn these thingis, signifien that thei sechen a cuntre.
11:15`If thei hadden hadde mynde of the ilke, of which thei wenten out, thei hadden tyme of turnyng ayen;
11:16but now thei desiren a betere, that is to seie, heuenli. Therfor God is not confoundid to be clepid the God of hem; for he made redi to hem a citee.
11:17Bi feith Abraham offride Ysaac, whanne he was temptid; and he offride the oon bigetun, whych had takun the biheestis;
11:18to whom it was seid, For in Ysaac the seed schal be clepid to thee.
11:19For he demyde, that God is myyti to reise hym, yhe, fro deth; wherfor he took hym also in to a parable.
11:20Bi feith also of thingis to comynge, Ysaac blesside Jacob and Esau.
11:21Bi feith Jacob diynge blesside alle the sones of Joseph, and onouride the hiynesse of his yerde.
11:22Bi feith Joseph dyynge hadde mynde of the passyng forth of the children of Israel, and comaundide of hise boonys.
11:23Bi feith Moyses borun, was hid thre monethis of his fadir and modir, for that thei seiyen the yonge child fair; and thei dredden not the maundement of the king.
11:24Bi feith Moises was maad greet, and denyede that he was the sone of Faraos douytir,
11:25and chees more to be turmentid with the puple of God, than to haue myrthe of temporal synne;
11:26demynge the repreef of Crist more richessis than the tresours of Egipcians; for he bihelde in to the rewarding.
11:27Bi feith he forsook Egipt, and dredde not the hardynesse of the king; for he abood, as seinge hym that was vnuysible.
11:28Bi feith he halewide pask, and the scheding out of blood, that he that distriede the firste thingis of Egipcians, schulde not touche hem.
11:29Bi feith thei passiden the reed see, as bi drye lond, which thing Egipcians asaiynge weren deuourid.
11:30Bi feith the wallis of Jerico felden doun, bi cumpassyng of seuene daies.
11:31Bi feith Raab hoor resseyuede the aspieris with pees, and perischide not with vnbileueful men.
11:32And what yit schal Y seie? For tyme schal faile to me tellynge of Gedeon, Barak, Sampson, Jepte, Dauid, and Samuel, and of othere prophetis;
11:33whiche bi feith ouercamen rewmes, wrouyten riytwisnesse, gaten repromyssiouns; thei stoppiden the mouthis of liouns,
11:34thei quenchiden the feersnesse of fier, thei dryueden awei the egge of swerd, thei coueriden of sijknesse, thei weren maad strong in batel, thei turneden the oostis of aliens.
11:35Wymmen resseyueden her deed children fro deth to lijf; but othere weren holdun forth, not takinge redempcioun, that thei schulden fynde a betere ayenrising.
11:36And othere asaieden scornyngis and betingis, more ouer and boondis and prisouns.
11:37Thei weren stoned, thei weren sawid, thei weren temptid, thei weren deed in sleyng of swerd. Thei wenten aboute in broc skynnes, and in skynnes of geet, nedi, angwischid, turmentid;
11:38to whiche the world was not worthi. Thei erriden in wildernessis, in mounteynes and dennes, and caues of the erthe.
11:39And alle these, preued bi witnessing of feith, token not repromyssioun;
11:40for God purueiede sum betere thing for vs, that thei schulden not be maad perfit with outen vs.
