1 Peter - Chapter: 2


2:1	Having put aside, then, all evil, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envyings, and all evil speakings,
2:2	as new-born babes the word's pure milk desire ye, that in it ye may grow,
2:3	if so be ye did taste that the Lord `is' gracious,
2:4	to whom coming -- a living stone -- by men, indeed, having been disapproved of, but with God choice, precious,
2:5	and ye yourselves, as living stones, are built up, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
2:6	Wherefore, also, it is contained in the Writing: `Lo, I lay in Zion a chief corner-stone, choice, precious, and he who is believing on him may not be put to shame;'
2:7	to you, then, who are believing `is' the preciousness; and to the unbelieving, a stone that the builders disapproved of, this one did become for the head of a corner,
2:8	and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence -- who are stumbling at the word, being unbelieving, -- to which also they were set;
2:9	and ye `are' a choice race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people acquired, that the excellences ye may shew forth of Him who out of darkness did call you to His wondrous light;
2:10	who `were' once not a people, and `are' now the people of God; who had not found kindness, and now have found kindness.
2:11	Beloved, I call upon `you', as strangers and sojourners, to keep from the fleshly desires, that war against the soul,
2:12	having your behaviour among the nations right, that in that which they speak against you as evil-doers, of the good works having beheld, they may glorify God in a day of inspection.
2:13	Be subject, then, to every human creation, because of the Lord, whether to a king, as the highest,
2:14	whether to governors, as to those sent through him, for punishment, indeed, of evil-doers, and a praise of those doing good;
2:15	because, so is the will of God, doing good, to put to silence the ignorance of the foolish men;
2:16	as free, and not having the freedom as the cloak of the evil, but as servants of God;
2:17	to all give ye honour; the brotherhood love ye; God fear ye; the king honour ye.
2:18	The domestics! be subjecting yourselves in all fear to the masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the cross;
2:19	for this `is' gracious, if because of conscience toward God any one doth endure sorrows, suffering unrighteously;
2:20	for what renown `is it', if sinning and being buffeted, ye do endure `it'? but if, doing good and suffering `for it', ye do endure, this `is' gracious with God,
2:21	for to this ye were called, because Christ also did suffer for you, leaving to you an example, that ye may follow his steps,
2:22	who did not commit sin, nor was guile found in his mouth,
2:23	who being reviled -- was not reviling again, suffering -- was not threatening, and was committing himself to Him who is judging righteously,
2:24	who our sins himself did bear in his body, upon the tree, that to the sins having died, to the righteousness we may live; by whose stripes ye were healed,
2:25	for ye were as sheep going astray, but ye turned back now to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.


2:1	Wherfore laye asyde all maliciousnes and all gyle and dissimulacion and envie and all backbytynge:
2:2	and as newe borne babes desyre that reasonable mylke which is with out corrupcion that ye maye growe therin.
2:3	If so be that ye have tasted how plesaunt the lorde is
2:4	to whom ye come as vnto a livynge stone disalowed of men but chosen of god and precious:
2:5	and ye as lyvynge stones are made a spretuall housse and an holy presthode for to offer vp spretuall sacryfice acceptable to god by Iesus Christ.
2:6	Wherfore it is contayned in the scripture: beholde I put in Sion an heed corner stone electe and precious: and he that beleveth on him shall not be ashamed.
2:7	Vnto you therfore which beleve he is precious: but vnto them which beleve not ye stone which ye bylders refused ye same is made ye heed stone in the corner
2:8	and a stone to stomble at and a rocke to offende them which stomble at the worde and beleve not that where on they were set.
2:9	But ye are a chosyn generacion a royall presthod an holy nacio and a peculiar people that ye shuld shewe the vertues of him that called you out of darknes into hys marvelous light
2:10	which in tyme past were not a people yet are now the people of God: which were not vnder mercye but now have obteyned mercye.
2:11	Derly beloved I beseche you as straugers and pilgrems abstayne from flesshly lustes which fyght agaynst the soule
2:12	and se that ye have honest conversacion amonge the getyls that they which backbyte you as evyll doars maye se youre good workes and prayse god in the daye of visitacion.
2:13	Submit youre selves vnto all manner ordinaunce of man for the lordes sake whether it be vnto the kynge as vnto the chefe heed:
2:14	other vnto rulars as vnto them that are sent of him for the punysshment of evyll doars: but for the laude of them that do well.
2:15	For so is the will of god that ye put to sylence the ygnorancie of the folyshe men:
2:16	as fre and not as havinge ye libertie for a cloke of maliciousnes but even as the servautes of god.
2:17	Honoure all men. Love brotherly felishippe. Feare god and honour the kynge.
2:18	Servauntes obey youre masters with all feare not only yf they be good and courteous: but also though they be frowarde.
2:19	For it is thankeworthye yf a man for conscience towarde god endure grefe sufferinge wrongfully.
2:20	For what prayse is it if when ye be buffeted for youre fautes ye take it paciently? But and yf when ye do well ye suffer wronge and take it paciently then is there thanke with God.
2:21	For herevnto verely were ye called: for Christ also suffered for vs levinge vs an insample yt ye shuld folowe his steppes
2:22	which dyd no sinne nether was ther gyle founde in his mouth:
2:23	which when he was reviled reviled not agayne: whe he suffered he threatened not: but comitted the cause to him that iudgeth ryghteously
2:24	which his awne silfe bare oure synnes in his body on the tree that we shuld be delyvered from synne and shuld lyve in rightewesnes. By whose strypes ye were healed.
2:25	For ye were as shepe goinge astraye: but are now returned vnto ye shepheerd and bisshoppe of youre soules.

2:4	Vnto whom ye are come, as to the lyuynge stone, which is disalowed of men, but chosen of God and precious.
2:5	And ye also as lyuynge stones are made a spirituall house, and an holy presthode, to offre vp spirituall sacrifices, acceptable vnto God by Iesus Christ.
2:6	Wherfore it is conteyned in the scripture: Beholde, I put in Sion an heade corner stone, electe & precious, and he that beleueth on him, shal not be cofounded.
2:7	Vnto you therfore which beleue, he is precious: but vnto them that beleue not, is ye same stone which the buylders refused, made the heade stone in the corner,
2:8	and a stone to stomble at, and a rock to be offended at, namely in the which stomble at ye worde, and beleue not that wheron they were set.
2:9	But ye are that chosen generacion, that kyngly presthode, that holy nacion, that peculier people, yt ye shulde shewe the vertues of him, which hath called you out of darknesse in to his maruelous lighte:
2:10	Euen you which in tyme past were not a people, but now are the people of God: which were not vnder mercy, but now haue optayned mercy.
2:11	Dearly beloued, I beseke you as straungers and pilgrems, absteyne fro the fleshly lustes, which fighte agaynst the soule,
2:12	and lede an honest conuersacion amonge the Heythen, that they which bacbyte you as euell doers, maye se youre good workes, and prayse God in the daye of visitacion.
2:13	Submytte youre selues vnto all maner ordinaunce of men for the LORDES sake: whether it be vnto the kynge as vnto ye chefe heade,
2:14	or vnto rulers, as vnto them that are sent of him, for the punyshment of euell doers, but for the prayse of the that do well.
2:15	For so is the will of God, that ye with well doynge shulde put to sylence the ignoraunce of folishmen:
2:16	as fre, and not as hauynge the libertye for a cloke of wickednes, but eue as the seruauntes of God.
2:17	Honoure all men. Loue brotherly fellishippe. Feare God. Honoure the kynge.
2:18	Ye seruautes, obey youre masters with all feare: not onely yf they be good and curteous, but also though they be frowarde.
2:19	For that is grace, yf a man for conscience towarde God endure grefe, and suffre wronge.
2:20	For what prayse is it, yf wha ye be buffeted for yor fautes, ye take it paciently? But yf whan ye do well, ye suffre wronge, and take it paciently, that is grace with God.
2:21	For here vnto are ye called, for so moch as Christ also suffred for vs, leauynge vs an ensample, that ye shulde folowe his fotesteppes,
2:22	which dyd no synne, nether was there gyle founde in his mouth:
2:23	which whan he was reuyled, reuyled not agayne: wha he suffred, he threatened not: but commytted the cause vnto him, that iudgeth righteously:
2:24	which his owne selfe bare oure synnes in his body vpon the tre, that we shulde be delyuered from synne, & shulde lyue vnto righteousnes: by whose strypes ye were healed.
2:25	For ye were as shepe goinge astraye, but now are ye turned vnto the shepherde and Bisshoppe of youre soules.
