3:1 | This is the seconde epistle that I nowe wryte to you (beloued) wherwith I stere vp & warne youre pure myndes, to cal to remembraunc |
3:2 | the wordes, which were tolde before of the holy prophetes, and also the commaundementes of vs the apostles of the Lorde and sauiour. |
3:3 | This fyrst vnderstande, that there shall come in the laste dayes mockers, which wyll walke after their own lustes |
3:4 | and say. Where is the promes of hys comminge? For sence the fathers dyed, al thinges continue in the same estate, wherin they were at the beginninge. |
3:5 | This they knowe not (and that willinglie) howe that the heauens a greate whyle ago were, & the earth that was in the water, appered vp out of the water by the worde of God, |
3:6 | by the which thinges, the worlde that then was, perished ouer flowen with the water. |
3:7 | But the heauens verely and earth, which are now are kept by the same worde in store, and reserued vnto fyre, agaynste the daye of iudgemente, and perdycyon of vngodlye men. |
3:8 | Dearly beloued, be not ignoraunt of thys one thinge, howe that one daye is wyth the Lorde, as a thousande yeare, and a thousande yeare as one daye. |
3:9 | The Lord is not slacke to fulfyl hys promyse, as some men count slaknes, but is patient to vsward and would haue no man loste, but would receyue al men to repentaunce. |
3:10 | Neuertheles the daye of the Lord wyl come as a thiefe in the nyght in the which daye, the heauens shal peryshe wyth terryble noyse, and the elementes shal melte wyth heate, and the earth wyth the workes that are therin shal burne. |
3:11 | If al these thinges shal perishe, what maner persons ought ye to be in holye conuersacyon and Godlynes: |
3:12 | lokynge for and hasting vnto the comminge of the daye of God, in which the heauens shall perishe with fyre, & the elementes shalbe consumed wyth heat. |
3:13 | Neuertheles we loke for a new heauen and a newe earth, accordinge to his promys, wherin dwelleth rygtuousnes. |
3:14 | Wherfore dearly beloued, seynge that ye loke for such thinges, be diligent that ye may be found of hym in peace, wythout spotte and vndefyled |
3:15 | And suppose that the longe suffering of the Lord is saluacion, euen as oure dearlye beloued brother Paule accordinge to the wysdome geuen to hym wrote vnto you, |
3:16 | yea, almoste in euery epistle speakinge of such thinges, amonge whiche are manye thinges harde to be vnderstande, which they that are vnlearned, and vnstable, peruert, as they do other scriptures vnto their owne destruccion. |
3:17 | Ye therfore beloued, seynge ye knowe it before hand, beware lest ye be also plucked away with the errour of the wycked, and fall from your own stedfastnes, |
3:18 | but grow in grace, and in the knowledge of oure Lorde and Sauiour Iesus Christe. To whom be glorye both nowe and foreuer. Amen. |
3:1 | This is the seconde epistle that I now write vnto you dearly beloued, wherwith I stere vp your syncere mynde, by putting you in remembraunce, |
3:2 | that ye maye be myndefull of the wordes (whych were tolde before of the holy Prophetes) and also the commaundement of vs whych be Apostles of the Lorde and sauyour |
3:3 | This fyrst vnderstande, that ther shall come in the last dayes, mockers whych wyll walke after their awne lustes, |
3:4 | & saye: Where is the promes of hys commyng? For sence the fathers dyed, all thynges continue in the same estate wherin they were at the beginninge. |
3:5 | For this they knowe not (and that wylfully) how that the heauens a great whyle ago were, & the erth out of the water appeared vp thorow the water, by the word of God: |
3:6 | by the whych thynges the world that then was, peryshed beynge ouerrunne wyth water. |
3:7 | But the heauens and erth whych are now, be kept by hys worde in store, and reserued vnto fyre, agaynst the daye of iudgement & perdicion of vngodly men. |
3:8 | Dearly beloued, be not ignoraunt of this one thinge, howe that one daye is with the Lorde as a thousande yeare, & a thousande yeare as one daye. |
3:9 | The Lord that hath promised, is not slacke, as some men count slacknes: but is pacyent to vs warde: for asmoch as he wolde haue no man lost, but wyll receaue all men to repentaunce. |
3:10 | Neuerthelesse the daye of the Lord wyll come as a thefe in the nyghte, in the which daye, the heauens shall passe awaye in maner of a tempest, and the elementes shal melt with heat: the erth also & the workes that are therin, shall burne. |
3:11 | Seyng then that all these thinges shal perishe, what maner persons ought ye to be in holy conuersacyon, and godlynes: |
3:12 | lokyng for, and hastinge vnto the commynge of the daye of God, by whom the heauens shall perisshe with fyre, & the elementes shall melt with heate? |
3:13 | Neuerthelesse, we (according to his promes) loke for a new heauen and a new earth, wherin dwelleth ryghtewesnes. |
3:14 | Wherfore dearly beloued, seynge that ye loke for such thinges, be diligent that ye maye be founde of hym in peace, wythout spotte and vndefyled. |
3:15 | And suppose that the longe sufferinge of the Lord is saluacyon, euen as oure derely beloued brother Paule also (accordinge to the wysdome geuen vnto him) hath wrytten vnto you, |
3:16 | ye, almoost in euery epistle, speakynge of such thinges: amonge which are many thinges harde to be vnderstande, which they that are vnlearned & vnstable, peruert, as they do also the other scriptures vnto their awne destruccion. |
3:17 | Ye therfore beloued, (seynge ye be warned afore hand) beware, lest ye, wyth other men be also plucked awaye thorow the erroure of the wycked, and fall from your awne stedfastnes: |
3:18 | but growe in grace, & in the knowledge of oure Lorde and sauyoure Iesus Christ. To whom be glory both now and for euer. Amen. |
3:1 | This seconde Epistle I nowe write vnto you, beloued, wherewith I stirre vp, and warne your pure mindes, |
3:2 | To call to remembrance the wordes, which were tolde before of the holy Prophetes, and also the commandement of vs the Apostles of the Lord and Sauiour. |
3:3 | This first vnderstande, that there shall come in the last dayes, mockers, which wil walke after their lustes, |
3:4 | And say, Where is the promise of his comming? for since the fathers died, all things continue alike from the beginning of the creation. |
3:5 | For this they willingly know not, that the heauens were of olde, and the earth that was of the water and by the water, by the word of God. |
3:6 | Wherefore the worlde that then was, perished, ouerflowed with the water. |
3:7 | But the heauens and earth, which are nowe, are kept by the same word in store, and reserued vnto fire against the day of condemnation, and of the destruction of vngodly men. |
3:8 | Dearely beloued, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord, as a thousande yeeres, and a thousande yeeres as one day. |
3:9 | The Lord of that promise is not slacke (as some men count slackenesse) but is pacient toward vs, and would haue no man to perish, but would all men to come to repentance. |
3:10 | But the day of the Lord will come as a thiefe in the night, in the which the heauens shall passe away with a noyse, and the elements shall melt with heate, and the earth with the workes that are therein, shalbe burnt vp. |
3:11 | Seeing therefore that all these thinges must be dissolued, what maner persons ought ye to be in holy conuersation and godlinesse, |
3:12 | Looking for, and hasting vnto the comming of that day of God, by the which the heauens being on fire, shall be dissolued, and the elements shall melt with heate? |
3:13 | But wee looke for newe heauens, and a newe earth, according to his promise, wherein dwelleth righteousnesse. |
3:14 | Wherefore, beloued, seeing that yee looke for such thinges, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot and blamelesse. |
3:15 | And suppose that the long suffering of our Lord is saluation, euen as our beloued brother Paul according to the wisedome giuen vnto him wrote to you, |
3:16 | As one, that in all his Epistles speaketh of these thinges: among the which some thinges are hard to be vnderstand, which they that are vnlearned and vnstable, wrest, as they do also other Scriptures vnto their owne destruction. |
3:17 | Ye therefore beloued, seeing ye know these thinges before, beware, lest ye be also plucked away with the errour of the wicked, and fall from your owne stedfastnesse. |
3:18 | But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Sauiour Iesus Christ: to him be glory both now and for euermore. Amen. |
