13:1	And behold, there came a man of God out of Iudah by the word of the Lord vnto Bethel: and Ieroboam stood by the altar to burne incense.
13:2	And hee cried against the altar in the word of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord, Behold, a child shalbe borne vnto the house of Dauid, Iosiah by name, and vpon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burne incense vpon thee, and mens bones shall bee burnt vpon thee.
13:3	And he gaue a signe the same day, saying, This is the signe which the Lord hath spoken: Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are vpon it, shalbe powred out.
13:4	And it came to passe when king Ieroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him: And his hand which hee put foorth against him, dried vp, so that hee could not pull it in againe to him.
13:5	The altar also was rent, and the ashes powred out from the altar, according to the signe which the man of God had giuen by the word of the Lord.
13:6	And the king answered, and said vnto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the Lord thy God, and pray for mee, that my hand may be restored mee againe. And the man of God besought the Lord, and the kings hand was restored againe, and became as it was before.
13:7	And the king said vnto the man of God, Come home with mee, and refresh thy selfe, and I wil giue thee a reward.
13:8	And the man of God said vnto the king, If thou wilt giue mee halfe thine house, I will not goe in with thee, neither will I eat bread, nor drinke water in this place:
13:9	For so was it charged mee by the word of the Lord, saying, Eate no bread, nor drinke water, nor turne again by the same way that thou camest.
13:10	So he went another way, and returned not by the way that hee came to Bethel.
13:11	Now there dwelt an old Prophet in Bethel, and his sonne came and told him all the workes that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which hee had spoken vnto the king, them they tolde also to their father.
13:12	And their father said vnto them, What way went he? for his sonnes had seene what way the man of God went, which came from Iudah.
13:13	And hee saide vnto his sonnes, Saddle me the asse. So they sadled him the asse, and he rode thereon,
13:14	And went after the man of God, and found him sitting vnder an oke; and he said vnto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Iudah? And he said, I am.
13:15	Then hee said vnto him, Come home with me, and eate bread.
13:16	And he said, I may not returne with thee, nor goe in with thee: neither will I eat bread, nor drinke water with thee in this place.
13:17	For it was said to mee by the word of the Lord, Thou shalt eate no bread, nor drinke water there, nor turne againe to go by the way that thou camest.
13:18	He said vnto him, I am a prophet also as thou art, and an angel spake vnto me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him backe with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread, and drinke water: But he lied vnto him.
13:19	So he went backe with him, and did eate bread in his house, and dranke water.
13:20	And it came to passe as they sate at the table, that the word of the Lord came vnto the prophet that brought him backe:
13:21	And he cried vnto the man of God that came from Iudah, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeied the mouth of the Lord, and hast not kept the commandement which the Lord thy God commanded thee,
13:22	But camest backe, and hast eaten bread, and drunke water, in the place, of the which the Lord did say to thee, Eate no bread, and drinke no water; thy carcaise shall not come vnto the sepulchre of thy fathers.
13:23	And it came to passe after he had eaten bread, and after hee had drunke, that he sadled for him the asse, to wit, for the Prophet, whome hee had brought backe.
13:24	And when he was gone, a lyon met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcaise was cast in the way, and the asse stood by it, the lyon also stood by the carcaise.
13:25	And beholde, men passed by, and saw the carcaise cast in the way, and the lyon standing by the carcaise: and they came and told it in the citie where the old prophet dwelt.
13:26	And when the prophet that brought him back from the way, heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient vnto the word of the Lord: therefore the Lord hath deliuered him vnto the lion, which hath torne him, and slaine him, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake vnto him.
13:27	And he spake to his sonnes, saying, Saddle me the asse: and they sadled him.
13:28	And he went and found his carcaise cast in the way, and the asse and the lyon standing by the carcaise: the lyon had not eaten the carcaise, nor torne the asse.
13:29	And the prophet tooke vp the carcaise of the man of God, and laid it vpon the asse, and brought it backe: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourne, and to burie him.
13:30	And hee laid his carcaise in his owne graue, and they mourned ouer him, saying, Alas my brother.
13:31	And it came to passe after hee had buried him, that he spake to his sonnes, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre, wherein the man of God is buried, lay my bones beside his bones.
13:32	For the saying which hee cried by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to passe.
13:33	After this thing, Ieroboam returned not from his euill way, but made againe of the lowest of the people priests of the high places: whosoeuer would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.
13:34	And this thing became sinne vnto the house of Ieroboam, euen to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.


13:1	And beholde, there came a man of God out of Iudah (by the commandement of the Lord) vnto Beth-el, and Ieroboam stoode by the altar to offer incense.
13:2	And he cryed against the altar by the comandement of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord, Beholde, a child shalbe borne vnto the house of Dauid, Iosiah by name, and vpon thee shall he sacrifice the Priestes of the hie places that burne incense vpon thee, and they shall burne mens bones vpon thee.
13:3	And he gaue a signe the same time, saying, This is the signe, that the Lord hath spoken, Behold, the altar shall rent, and the ashes that are vpon it, shall fall out.
13:4	And when the King had heard the saying of the man of God, which he had cryed against the altar in Beth-el, Ieroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, Lay holde on him: but his hande which he put foorth against him, dryed vp, and he could not pull it in againe to him.
13:5	The altar also claue asunder, and the ashes fell out from the altar, according to the signe, which the man of God had giuen by the commandement of the Lord.
13:6	Then the King answered, and saide vnto the man of God, I beseeche thee, pray vnto ye Lord thy God, and make intercession for me, that mine hand may bee restored vnto me. And the man of God besought the Lord, and the Kings hand was restored, and became as it was afore.
13:7	Then the King sayde vnto the man of God, Come home with mee, that thou mayest dyne, and I will giue thee a reward.
13:8	But the man of God saide vnto the King, If thou wouldest giue me halfe thine house, I would not goe in with thee, neither woulde I eate bread nor drinke water in this place.
13:9	For so was it charged mee by the worde of the Lord, saying, Eate no bread nor drinke water, nor turne againe by the same way that thou camest.
13:10	So he went another way and returned not by the way that he came to Beth-el.
13:11	And an olde Prophet dwelt in Beth-el, and his sonnes came and tolde him all ye woorkes, that the man of God had done that day in Beth-el, and the wordes which he had spoken vnto the King, tolde they their father.
13:12	And their father sayde vnto them, What way went he? and his sonnes shewed him what waye the man of God went, which came from Iudah.
13:13	And hee saide vnto his sonnes, Saddle mee the asse. Who sadled him the asse, and hee rode thereon,
13:14	And went after the man of God, and found him sitting vnder an oke: and he saide vnto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Iudah? And he sayd, Yea.
13:15	Then he said vnto him, Come home with me, and eate bread.
13:16	But he answered, I may not returne with thee, nor go in with thee, neither wil I eate bread nor drinke water with thee in this place.
13:17	For it was charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, Thou shalt eate no bread, nor drinke water there, nor turne againe to goe by the way that thou wentest.
13:18	And he said vnto him, I am a Prophet also as thou art, and an Angel spake vnto me by the worde of the Lord, saying, Bring him againe with thee into thine house, that hee may eate bread and drinke water: but he lyed vnto him.
13:19	So he went againe with him, and did eate bread in his house, and dranke water.
13:20	And as they sate at the table, the worde of the Lord came vnto the Prophet, that brought him againe.
13:21	And hee cried vnto the man of God that came from Iudah, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Because thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the Lord, and hast not kept the commandement which the Lord thy God commanded thee,
13:22	But camest backe againe, and hast eaten bread and drunke water in the place (whereof he did say vnto thee, Thou shalt eate no bread nor drinke any water) thy carkeis shall not come vnto the sepulchre of thy fathers.
13:23	And when he had eaten bread and drunke, he sadled him the asse, to wit, to the Prophet whome he had brought againe.
13:24	And when hee was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slewe him, and his body was cast in the way, and the asse stoode thereby: the lion stood by the corps also.
13:25	And beholde, men that passed by, sawe the carkeis cast in the way, and the lion standing by the corps: and they came and tolde it in ye towne where the olde Prophet dwelt.
13:26	And when the Prophet that brought him backe againe from the waye, hearde thereof, hee sayde, It is the man of God, who hath bene disobedient vnto the commandement of the Lord: therefore the Lord hath deliuered him vnto the lion, which hath rent him and slayne him, according to the worde of the Lord, which hee spake vnto him.
13:27	And he spake to his sonnes, saying, Saddle me the asse. And they sadled him.
13:28	And he went and founde his body cast in the way, and the asse and the lion stoode by the corps: and the lion had not eaten the bodie, nor torne the asse.
13:29	And the Prophet tooke vp the body of the man of God, and layed it vpon the asse, and brought it againe, and the olde Prophet came to the citie, to lament and burie him.
13:30	And hee layed his bodie in his owne graue, and they lamented ouer him, saying, Alas, my brother.
13:31	And when he had buried him, hee spake to his sonnes, saying, When I am dead, burie ye mee also in the sepulchre, wherein the man of God is buried: lay my bones beside his bones.
13:32	For that thing which he cried by the word of the Lord against the altar that is in Beth-el, and against all the houses of the hie places, which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to passe.
13:33	Howbeit after this, Ieroboam conuerted not from his wicked way, but turned againe, and made of the lowest of the people Priests of the hie places. Who would, might consecrate him selfe, and be of the Priestes of the hie places.
13:34	And this thing turned to sinne vnto the house of Ieroboam, euen to roote it out, and destroy it from the face of the earth.


13:1	And beholde, there came a man of God out of Iuda (by the worde of the Lord) vnto Bethel, & Ieroboam stode by the aulter to put incense.
13:2	And he cried agaynst the aultare in the worde of the Lord & sayde. O aultare, aultare, thus sayth the Lord: Beholde, a chylde shall be borne vnto the house of Dauid, (Iosia by name) & vpon the shall he offer the preastes of the hillaultares that burne incense vpon the, & mennes bones shalbe brent vpon the.
13:3	And he gaue a token the same tyme, sayenge: thys is the token, that the Lorde hath spoken it. Beholde, the aulter shall rent, and the asshes that are vpon it, shall fall out.
13:4	And when the kynge hearde the sayenge of the man of God (which had cryed agaynst the aulter in Bethel) he stretched out hys hande from the aultare, sayenge: hold him. And his hande which he put forth agaynst him, dryed vp, & he coulde not pull it in agayne to hym:
13:5	the aulter also claue asunder, and the asshes fell out from the aulter, accordinge to the token which the man of God had geuen by the worde of the Lorde.
13:6	And the kynge answered, and sayde vnto the man of God. Oh praye vnto the Lorde thy God, and make intercessyon for me, that my hande maye be restored me agayne. And the man of God besought the Lorde, and the kynges hande was restored agayne, & became as it was afore.
13:7	And the kynge sayde vnto the man of God come home with me, that thou mayest dyne, and I wyll geue the a rewarde.
13:8	And the man of God sayde vnto the kynge: yf thou woldest geue me halfe thyne house, I will not go in with the, nether wyll I eate breade or drincke water in thys place.
13:9	For so was it charged me, thorowe the worde of the Lorde, sayeng: eate no bread nor dryncke water, nor turne againe by the same waye that thou camest.
13:10	And so he went another waye, & returned not by the waye that he came to Bethel.
13:11	And there dwelt an olde prophet in Bethel, & hys sonne came, and tolde hym all the workes, that the man of God had done that daye in Bethel: and the wordes which he had spoken vnto the kynge tolde they theyr father also.
13:12	And theyr father sayde vnto them: what waye went he? And his sonnes shewed him what waye the man of God went, which came fom Iuda.
13:13	And he sayde vnto hys sonnes: sadle me the Asse. Which whan they had sadled, be gatt hym vp theron,
13:14	and went after the man of God, & founde hym syttynge vnder a tre. And he sayde vnto him: art thou the man of God that camest from Iuda? And he sayde: I am.
13:15	He sayde vnto him: come home with me, and eate bread.
13:16	He answered: I maye not returne with the, to go in with the nether wyll I eate bread or drincke water with the in this place.
13:17	For it was sayde to me in the worde of the Lorde: Thou shalt eate no bred, nor drincke water there, nor turne agayne to go by the waye that thou camest.
13:18	He sayde vnto him: I am a prophet also as well as thou, and an Angell spake vnto me in the worde of the Lorde, sayenge: brynge him agayne with the into thyne house, that he maye eate bread and dryncke water. And he lyed vnto hym.
13:19	And so he went agayne with hym, and dyd eate bread in hys house and drancke water,
13:20	And it fortuned, that as they sate at the table, the worde of the Lorde came vnto the prophete, that brought him agayne.
13:21	And he cryed vnto the man of God that came from Iuda, sayenge: thus sayth the Lord because thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the Lorde, and hast not kept the commaundement which the Lorde thy God commaunded the,
13:22	but camest backe agayne, and hast eaten bread and droncke water in the place (concernynge the which the Lorde dyd saye vnto the: Thou shalt eate no bread nor dryncke water) thy carkasse shall not come vnto the sepulchre of thy fathers.
13:23	And so it came to passe, that when he had eaten bread and droncke, the prophete which brought him agayne, sadled him an asse.
13:24	And whan he was gone, a Lyon mett hym by the waye, and slue him, and his carkasse was cast in the waye, and the Asse stode therby, and the Lyon stode by the coarse also.
13:25	And men that passed by, sawe the carkasse cast in the waye, and the Lyon standynge therby: & they came and tolde it in the towne where the olde prophete dwelt.
13:26	And when the prophete that brought him backe agayne from the waye, hearde therof, he sayde: it is the man of God: he was disobedient vnto the worde of the Lorde, and therfore the Lorde hath delyuered him vnto the Lyon, which hath rent him and slayne him, accordinge to the worde of the Lorde, which he spake vnto hym.
13:27	And he spake to his sonnes, sayinge. sadle me an Asse: and so they dyd.
13:28	And he went, and founde hys bodye cast in the waye, and the Asse and the Lyon stode by the coarse. And the Lyon had not eaten the carkasse, nor hurt the Asse.
13:29	And the prophete toke vp the bodye of the man of God, and layed it vpon the Asse, and brought it agayne: and the olde prophete came to the cytie to lament, and to burye hym.
13:30	And he layde hys bodye in his awne graue, and they lamented ouer him. (Alas my brother.)
13:31	And when he had buried him, he spake to his sonnes, saying. When I am deed, se that ye burye me in the sepulchre wherin the man of God is buryed: laye my bones besyde hys bones.
13:32	For the sayenge which he cryed at the worde of the Lord agaynst the aultare in Bethel (and agaynst all the houses of hyll aultares which are in the cyties of Samarie) shall come to passe.
13:33	Howbeit, for all that, Ieroboam conuerted not from hys wycked waye: but turned backe, and made of the lowest of the people preastes of the hill aultares. And whoso pleased hym, he fylled hys hande, and he became preaste of the hill aultares.
13:34	And this thynge turned to synne vnto the house of Ieroboam euen to destroye hym, and to brynge hym to naught from of the face the erthe.
