2 Kings - Chapter: 6

>
6:1And the sonnes of the Prophets saide vnto Elisha, Beholde now, the place where wee dwell with thee, is too strait for vs:
6:2Let vs goe, wee pray thee, vnto Iordane, and take thence euery man a beame, and let vs make vs a place there where we may dwell. And hee answered, Goe ye.
6:3And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and goe with thy seruants. And he answered, I will goe.
6:4So hee went with them: and when they came to Iordane, they cut downe wood.
6:5But as one was felling a beame, the axe head fell into the water: and hee cryed, and sayd, Alas master, for it was borrowed.
6:6And the man of God said, Where fell it? and hee shewed him the place: and he cut downe a sticke, and cast it in thither, and the yron did swimme.
6:7Therefore said he, Take it vp to thee: And hee put out his hand, and tooke it.
6:8Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and tooke counsell with his seruants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my campe.
6:9And the man of God sent vnto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou passe not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come downe.
6:10And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God tolde him, and warned him of, and saued himselfe there, not once nor twise.
6:11Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing, and he called his seruants, and said vnto them, Will ye not shewe me which of vs is for the king of Israel?
6:12And one of his seruants sayde, None, my lord O king; but Elisha the Prophet, that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel, the wordes that thou speakest in thy bed-chamber.
6:13And he said, Goe and spie where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was tolde him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
6:14Therefore sent he thither horses, and charets, and a great hoste: and they came by night, and compassed the citie about.
6:15And when the seruant of the man of God was risen early and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the citie, both with horses and charets: and his seruant said vnto him, Alas my master, how shall we doe?
6:16And he answered, Feare not: for they that be with vs, are moe then they that be with them.
6:17And Elisha prayed, and sayde, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and hee saw: and behold, the mountaine was full of horses, and charets of fire round about Elisha.
6:18And when they came downe to him, Elisha prayed vnto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindnesse. And hee smote them with blindnesse, according to the word of Elisha.
6:19And Elisha saide vnto them, This is not the way, neither is this the citie: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seeke. But hee led them to Samaria.
6:20And it came to passe when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw, and beholde, they were in the mids of Samaria.
6:21And the king of Israel saide vnto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?
6:22And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captiue with thy sword, and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eate, and drinke, and go to their master.
6:23And hee prepared great prouision for them, and when they had eaten and drunke, hee sent them away, and they went to their master: so the bands of Syria came no more into the lande of Israel.
6:24And it came to passe after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his hoste, and went vp, and besieged Samaria.
6:25And there was a great famine in Samaria: and behold, they besieged it, vntill an asses head was solde for fourescore pieces of siluer, and the fourth part of a kab of doues doung for fiue pieces of siluer.
6:26And as the king of Israel was passing by vpon the wall, there cried a woman vnto him, saying, Helpe, my lord, O king.
6:27And he said, If the Lord do not helpe thee, whence shall I helpe thee? out of the barne floore, or out of the wine presse?
6:28And the king said vnto her, What aileth thee? And shee answered, This woman said vnto me, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him to day, and wee will eate my sonne to morrow.
6:29So we boyled my sonne, and did eate him: and I saide vnto her on the next day, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him: and she hath hid her sonne.
6:30And it came to passe when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes, and hee passed by vpon the wall, and the people looked, and behold, hee had sackcloth within, vpon his flesh.
6:31Then he said, God doe so, and more also to mee, if the head of Elisha the sonne of Shaphat, shall stand on him this day.
6:32But Elisha sate in his house (and the elders sate with him) and the king sent a man from before him: but yer the messenger came to him, hee said to the Elders, See yee how this sonne of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? Looke when the messenger commeth, shut the doore, and hold him fast at the doore: Is not the sound of his masters feete behind him?
6:33And while hee yet talked with them, beholde, the messenger came downe vnto him: and he said, Behold, this euill is of the Lord, what should I waite for the Lord any longer?

6:1And the children of the Prophets saide vnto Elisha, Behold, we pray thee, the place where we dwell with thee, is too litle for vs.
6:2Let vs nowe goe to Iorden, that we may take thence euery man a beame, and make vs a place to dwell in. And he answered, Goe.
6:3And one said, Vouchsafe, I pray thee, to go with thy seruants, and he answered, I will goe.
6:4So he went with them, and when they came to Iorden, they cut downe wood.
6:5And as one was felling of a tree, the yron fell into the water: then he cryed, and said, Alas master, it was but borowed.
6:6And the man of God saide, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. Then he cut downe a piece of wood, and cast in thither, and he caused the yron to swimme.
6:7Then he saide, Take it vp to thee. And he stretched out his hand, and tooke it.
6:8Then the King of Aram warred against Israel, and tooke counsell with his seruants, and said, In such and such a place shalbe my campe.
6:9Therefore the man of God sent vnto the King of Israel, saying, Beware thou goe not ouer to such a place: for there the Aramites are come downe.
6:10So the King of Israel sent to the place which the man of God tolde him, and warned him of, and saued himselfe from thence, not once, nor twise.
6:11And the heart of the King of Aram was troubled for this thing: therefore he called his seruants and saide vnto them, Will ye not shewe me, which of vs bewrayeth our counsel to the king of Israel?
6:12Then one of his seruants saide, None, my lorde, O King, but Elisha the Prophet that is in Israel, telleth the King of Israel, euen the wordes that thou speakest in thy priuie chamber.
6:13And he said, Goe, and espie where he is, that I may sende and fetch him. And one tolde him, saying, Beholde, he is in Dothan.
6:14So he sent thither horses, and charets, and a mightie hoste: and they came by night, and compassed the citie.
6:15And when the seruant of the man of God arose earely to goe out, beholde, an hoste compassed the citie with horses and charets. Then his seruant sayde vnto him, Alas master, howe shall we doe?
6:16And he answered, Feare not: for they that be with vs, are moe then they that be with them.
6:17Then Elisha prayed, and saide, Lord, I beseech thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the seruant, and he looked, and beholde, the mountaine was full of horses and charets of fyre round about Elisha.
6:18So they came downe to him, but Elisha prayed vnto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindnesse. And he smote them with blindnes, according to the worde of Elisha.
6:19And Elisha said vnto them, This is not the way, neither is this the citie: follow me, and I will leade you to the man whome ye seeke. But he ledde them to Samaria.
6:20And when they were come to Samaria, Elisha saide, Lord, open their eyes that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw, and beholde, they were in the mids of Samaria.
6:21And the King of Israel sayde vnto Elisha when he sawe them, My father, shall I smite them, shall I smite them?
6:22And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: doest thou not smite them that thou hast taken with thy sworde, and with thy bowe? but set bread and water before them, that they may eate and drinke and goe to their master.
6:23And he made great preparation for them: and when they had eaten and drunken, he sent them away: and they went to their master. So ye bands of Aram came no more into the land of Israel.
6:24But afterward Ben-hadad King of Aram gathered all his hoste, and went vp, and besieged Samaria.
6:25So there was a great famine in Samaria: for loe, they besieged it vntill an asses head was at foure score pieces of siluer, and the fourth part of a kab of doues doung at fiue pieces of siluer.
6:26And as the King of Israel was going vpon the wall, there cryed a woman vnto him, saying, Helpe, my lord, O King.
6:27And he said, Seeing the Lord doeth not succour thee, howe shoulde I helpe thee with the barne, or with the wine presse?
6:28Also the King said vnto her, What ayleth thee? And she answered, This woman sayde vnto me, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him to day, and we will eate my sonne to morowe,
6:29So we sod my sonne, and did eate him: and I saide to her the day after, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him, but she hath hid her sonne.
6:30And when the King had heard the wordes of the woman, he rent his clothes, (and as he went vpon the wall, the people looked, and behold, he had sackecloth within vpon his flesh)
6:31And he saide, God doe so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the sonne of Shaphat shall stande on him this day.
6:32(Nowe Elisha sate in his house, and the Elders sate with him.) And the King sent a man before him: but before the messenger came to him, he saide to the Elders, See ye not howe this murtherers sonne hath sent to take away mine head? take heede when the messenger commeth, and shut the doore and handle him roughly at the doore: is not the sounde of his masters feete behinde him?
6:33While he yet talked with them, beholde, the messenger came downe vnto him, and saide, Behold, this euill commeth of the Lord: should I attende on the Lord any longer?

6:1The chyldren of the prophetes sayde vnto Elisa: Beholde, the place where we dwell with the, is to lytle for vs.
6:2We wyll therfore go vnto Iordane, and take thence euery man a beame, and buylde vs a place, to dwell in. And he answered: goo.
6:3And one sayde: be content I praye the, and come with thy seruauntes. And he answered: I wyll come,
6:4and so he went with them. And when they came to Iordan, they cutt downe wood.
6:5But it fortuned, that as one was fellinge downe of a tre, the axe heed fell into the water. And he cryed, & sayde: Alas master, it was lent me.
6:6And the man of God sayde. Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut downe a stycke, & cast it in thither, & immediatly the yron dyd swymme.
6:7Therfore sayde he: take it vp. And he stretched out his hande, and toke it vp.
6:8But the kynge of Siria warred agaynst Israel, & toke councell with his seruauntes, and sayde: In yonder secrete place shalbe my remayninge.
6:9And the man of God sent vnto the kynge of Israel, sayinge: Beware, that thou go not ouer to soch a place, for there the Sirians are lurkynge.
6:10Therfore the kynge of Israel sent to the place which the man of God tolde him, and warned him of, and saued him selfe from it, not once nor twyse.
6:11And the hert of the kynge of Siria was troubled for this thinge, and he called for his seruauntes and sayde vnto them: wyll ye not shewe me, which of oure men to the kynge of Israel?
6:12And one of his seruauntes sayde: none my Lorde o kynge. But Elisa the prophet, that is in Israel, telleth the kinge of Israel, yea euen, the wordes that thou speakest in thy preuye chambre.
6:13He sayde: go, & spie where he is, that I maye sende and fett him. And one tolde him, sayinge: beholde, he is in Dothan.
6:14Therfore sent he thither horses and charettes, and a myghtye Hoste. And they came by nyght, & compassed the citie about.
6:15And when the seruaunt of the man of God rose vp early to go out: Beholde, there was an Host round about the towne with horses and charettes. And his seruaunt sayde vnto him: Alas master, what shall we do?
6:16He answered feare not, for they that be with vs, are moo then they that be wyth them.
6:17And Elisa prayed and sayde: Lorde (I beseche the) open hys eyes, that he maye se. And the Lorde opened the eyes of the yonge man. And beholde, the mountayne was full of horses, and charettes of fyre rounde aboute Elisa.
6:18And when they came downe to hym, Elisa prayed vnto the Lorde, and sayde: Smyte thys people (I praye the) with blindnesse. And he smote them with blindnes, accordinge to the desyre of Elysa.
6:19And Elisa sayde vnto them this is not the waye, nether is this the towne: folowe me, and I wyll bringe you to the man whom ye seke. But he ledd them to Samaria.
6:20And it fortuned, that when they were come to Samaria, Elisa sayde: Lorde, open their eyes that they maye se. And the Lorde opened their eyes, and they sawe. And beholde, they were in the myddes of Samaria.
6:21And the kynge of Israel sayde vnto Elisa, when he sawe them: My father, shall I smyte them:
6:22And he answered: Thou shalt not smyte them. But smyte those that thou hast taken with thyne awne swerde, and wt thyne awne bowe. But rather set bread and water before them, that they maye eate and drincke, and go to their master.
6:23And he prepared a great refeccyon for them. And when they had eaten and droncke, he sent them a waye and they went to their master. And so the soudyoures of Syria came nomore into the lande of Israel.
6:24After thys it chaunced, that Benhadad kynge of Siria gathered all his Hoste & went vp, and beseged Samaria.
6:25But there was a greate derth in Samaria: and beholde, they beseged it, vntyll an Asses heed (was solde) for foure skore syluer pens, and the fourth part of a Cab of doues donge for fyue sicles.
6:26And as the kynge of Israel was goinge vpon the wall, there cryed a woman vnto him sayinge: helpe, my Lorde O kynge.
6:27He sayd: yf the Lord do not succoure the: wherwith can I helpe the: wt the barne, or wt the wyne presse?
6:28And the kynge sayde vnto her: what wilt thou? She answered: yonder woman sayde vnto me: brynge thy sonne, that we maye eate him to daye, and we wyll eate myne to morowe.
6:29And so we dressed my sonne and dyd eate him. And I sayde to her the other daye: brynge thy sonne that we maye eate hym, and she hath hyd her sonne.
6:30And it came to passe, that when the kynge hearde the wordes of the woman, he rent his clothes, and went vp on the wall. And the people loked: and beholde he had a sack cloth vnder, vpon hys flesshe.
6:31Then he sayde: God do so & so to me, yf the heed of Elisa the sonne of Saphat shall stande on him this daye.
6:32But Elisa satt in his house and the elders satt by him, & the kynge sent a man before him. But yer the messenger came to him, he sayde to the elders haue ye not sene, howe that the sonne of this murtherar hath sent, to take awaye myne heed? be circumspect when the messenger commeth, and shut the dore, and holde him at the dore: is not the sounde of hys masters fete behinde him?
6:33Whyle he yet talked with them: Beholde the messenger came downe vnto him, & sayde beholde, this euell is of the Lorde, & what more shall I loke for of the Lorde
