2 Kings - Chapter: 19


19:1	And it came to passe when King Hezekiah heard it, that hee rent his clothes, and couered himselfe with sackecloth, and went into the house of the Lord.
19:2	And hee sent Eliakim, which was ouer the houshold, and Shebna the Scribe, and the Elders of the Priests, couered with sackcloth, to Esai the Prophet the sonne of Amoz.
19:3	And they sayd vnto him, Thus sayth Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemie: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring foorth.
19:4	It may be, the Lord thy God will heare all the words of Rabshakeh whome the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproch the liuing God, and will reprooue the wordes which the Lord thy God hath heard: wherefore lift vp thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
19:5	So the seruants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
19:6	And Isaiah said vnto them, Thus shal ye say to your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afraid of the wordes which thou hast heard, with which the seruants of the king of Assyria haue blasphemed me.
19:7	Behold, I will send a blast vpon him, and he shall heare a rumour, and shall returne to his owne land, and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his owne land.
19:8	So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for hee had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
19:9	And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, hee is come out to fight against thee: hee sent messengers againe vnto Hezekiah, saying,
19:10	Thus shall ye speake to Hezekiah king of Iudah, saying, Let not thy God in whome thou trustest, deceiue thee, saying, Ierusalem shall not be deliuered into the hande of the king of Assyria.
19:11	Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria haue done to all lands, by destroying them vtterly: and shalt thou be deliuered?
19:12	Haue the gods of the nations deliuered them which my fathers haue destroyed? As Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar?
19:13	Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the citie of Sepharuaim, of Hena, and Iuah?
19:14	And Hezekiah receiued the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went vp into the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord.
19:15	And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said, O Lord God of Israel, which dwellest between the Cherubims, thou art the God, euen thou alone, of all the kingdomes of the earth, thou hast made heauen and earth.
19:16	Lord, bow downe thine eare, and heare: open, Lord, thine eyes; and see: and heare the words of Sennacherib which hath sent him to reproch the liuing God.
19:17	Of a trueth, Lord, the kings of Assyria haue destroyed the nations and their lands,
19:18	And haue cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of mens hands, wood and stone: therfore they haue destroyed them.
19:19	Now therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech thee, saue thou vs out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know, that thou art the Lord God, euen thou onely.
19:20	Then Isaiah the sonne of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to mee against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I haue heard.
19:21	This is the word that the Lord hath spoken concerning him, The Uirgin, the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne, the daughter of Ierusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
19:22	Whome hast thou reproched and blasphemed? And against whome hast thou exalted thy voyce, and lift vp thine eyes on high? Euen against the Holy One of Israel.
19:23	By thy messengers thou hast reproched the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my charets, I am come vp to the height of the mountaines, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut downe the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice firre trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forrest of his Carmel.
19:24	I haue digged & drunke strange waters, and with the sole of my feete haue I dried vp all the riuers of besieged places.
19:25	Hast thou not heard long agoe, how I haue done it, and of ancient times that I haue formed it? Now haue I brought it to passe, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heapes.
19:26	Therefore their Inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded, they were as the grasse of the field, and as the greene herbe, as the grasse on the house tops, and as corne blasted before it be growen vp.
19:27	But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.
19:28	Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult is come vp into mine eares, therefore I will put my hooke in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turne thee backe by the way by which thou camest.
19:29	And this shalbe a signe vnto thee, Yee shall eate this yeere such things as grow of themselues, and in the second yeere that which springeth of the same, and in the third yeere sow ye and reape, and plant Uineyards, and eate the fruits thereof.
19:30	And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Iudah, shall yet againe take root downeward, and beare fruit vpward.
19:31	For out of Ierusalem shall goe forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeale of the Lord of hostes shall doe this.
19:32	Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a banke against it:
19:33	By the way that hee came, by the same shal he returne, and shal not come into this city, saith the Lord.
19:34	For I will defend this citie, to saue it, for mine owne sake, and for my seruant Dauids sake.
19:35	And it came to passe that night, that the Angel of the Lord went out, and smote in the campe of the Assyrians, an hundred foure score and fiue thousand: and when they arose earely in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
19:36	So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineueh.
19:37	And it came to passe as hee was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adramelech, and Sharezer his sonnes, smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia, and Esarhaddon his sonne reigned in his stead.

19:2	And sent Eliakim which was the stewarde of the house, and Shebnah the chanceller, and the Elders of the Priestes clothed in sackecloth to Isaiah the Prophet the sonne of Amoz.
19:3	And they said vnto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of tribulation and of rebuke, and blasphemie: for the childre are come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring foorth.
19:4	If so be the Lord thy God hath heard all the wordes of Rabshakeh, whome the King of Asshur his master hath sent to raile on the liuing God, and to reproch him with wordes which the Lord thy God hath heard, then lift thou vp thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
19:5	So the seruants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
19:6	And Isaiah said vnto them, So shall ye say to your master, Thus sayeth the Lord, Be not afraide of the words which thou hast heard, wherewith the seruants of the king of Asshur haue blasphemed me.
19:7	Beholde, I will sende a blast vpon him, and he shall heare a noyse, and returne to his owne lande: and I will cause him to fall by the sworde in his owne lande.
19:8	So Rabshakeh returned, and founde the King of Asshur fighting against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
19:9	He heard also men say of Tirhakah King of Ethiopia, Beholde, he is come out to fight against thee: he therefore departed and sent other messengers vnto Hezekiah, saying,
19:10	Thus shall ye speake to Hezekiah King of Iudah, and say, Let not thy God deceiue thee in whome thou trustest, saying, Ierusalem shall not be deliuered into the hande of the King of Asshur.
19:11	Beholde, thou hast heard what the Kings of Asshur haue done to all landes, how they haue destroyed them: and shalt thou be deliuered?
19:12	Haue the gods of the heathen deliuered them which my fathers haue destroyed? as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, which were in Thelasar?
19:13	Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arpad, and the King of the citie of Shepharuaim, Hena and Iuah?
19:14	So Hezekiah receiued the letter of the hande of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went vp into the house of the Lord, and Hezekiah spread it before the Lord.
19:15	And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and saide, O Lord God of Israel, which dwellest betweene the Cherubims, thou art very God alone ouer all the kingdomes of the earth: thou hast made the heauen and the earth.
19:16	Lord, bow downe thine eare, and heare: Lord open thine eyes and behold, and heare the wordes of Saneherib, who hath sent to blaspheme the liuing God.
19:17	Trueth it is, Lord, that the Kings of Asshur haue destroyed the nations and their landes,
19:18	And haue set fire on their gods: for they were no gods, but the worke of mans hands, euen wood and stone: therefore they destroyed them.
19:19	Nowe therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech thee, saue thou vs out of his hande, that all the kingdomes of the earth may knowe, that thou, O Lord, art onely God.
19:20	Then Isaiah the sonne of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I haue heard that which thou hast prayed me, concerning Saneherib King of Asshur.
19:21	This is the worde that the Lord hath spoken against him, O Virgine, daughter of Zion, he hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne: O daughter of Ierusalem, he hath shaken his head at thee.
19:22	Whome hast thou railed on? and whome hast thou blasphemed? and against whome hast thou exalted thy voyce, and lifted vp thine eyes on hie? euen against the Holie one of Israel.
19:23	By thy messengers thou hast rayled on the Lord, and said, By the multitude of my charets I am come vp to the toppe of the mountaines, by the sides of Lebanon, and will cut downe the hie cedars thereof, and the faire firre trees thereof, and I will goe into the lodging of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.
19:24	I haue digged, and drunke the waters of others, and with the plant of my feete haue I dried all the floods closed in.
19:25	Hast thou not heard, howe I haue of olde time made it, and haue formed it long ago? and should I nowe bring it, that it should be destroyed, and laid on ruinous heapes, as cities defensed?
19:26	Whose inhabitants haue small power, and are afraid, and confounded: they are like the grasse of the field, and greene herbe, or grasse on ye house toppes, or as corne blasted before it be growen.
19:27	I knowe thy dwelling, yea, thy going out, and thy comming in, and thy furie against me.
19:28	And because thou ragest against me, and thy tumult is come vp to mine eares, I will put mine hooke in thy nostrels, and my bridle in thy lippes, and will bring thee backe againe the same way thou camest.
19:29	And this shalbe a signe vnto thee, O Hezekiah, Thou shalt eate this yeere such things as growe of them selues, and the next yeere such as growe without sowing, and the third yeere sowe ye and reape, and plant vineyardes, and eate the fruites thereof.
19:30	And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Iudah, shall againe take roote downewarde, and beare fruite vpwarde.
19:31	For out of Ierusalem shall goe a remnant, and some that shall escape out of mount Zion: the zeale of the Lord of hostes shall doe this.
19:32	Wherefore thus saith the Lord, concerning the King of Asshur, He shall not enter into this citie, nor shoote an arrowe there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a mount against it:
19:33	But he shall returne the way he came, and shall not come into this citie, saith the Lord.
19:34	For I will defende this citie to saue it for mine owne sake, and for Dauid my seruants sake.
19:35	And the same night the Angell of the Lord went out and smote in the campe of Asshur an hundreth foure score and fiue thousande: so when they rose earely in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
19:36	So Saneherib King of Asshur departed, and went his way, and returned, and dwelt in Nineueh.
19:37	And as he was in the Temple worshipping Nisroch his god, Adramelech and Sharezer his sonnes slewe him with the sworde: and they escaped into the land of Ararat, and Esarhaddon his sonne reigned in his steade.


19:1	So it came to passe, that when kynge Hezekia hearde it, he rent hys clothes, and put on sacke, and came into the house of the Lorde,
19:2	and sent Eliakim which was the stuard of housholde, and Sobna the Scribe, & the elders of the preastes clothed in sacke, to Isay the prophete the sonne of Amoz.
19:3	And they sayde vnto him, thus sayth Hezekia this daye is a daye of tribulacyon and of rebuke and blasphemy. For the chyldren are come to the byrth, and there is no strength to be delyuered.
19:4	Paraduenture the Lorde thy God wyll heare all the wordes of Rabsake, whom the kynge of Assyria his master hath sent, to rayle on the lyuynge God, and to rebuke him with wordes, which the Lorde thy God hath hearde: And lyfte thou vp thy prayer for the remnaunt that are lefte.
19:5	So the seruauntes of kynge Hezekia came to Isay:
19:6	And Isaie sayd vnto them: So shall ye saye to youre master: Thus sayth the Lorde: be not afrayde of the wordes which thou hast heard, with which the younge men of the kynge of Assyria haue rayled on me.
19:7	Beholde, I will put him in another mynde, and he shall heare tydinges, and so returne to hys awne lande: And I will bringe to passe, that he shall fall vpon the swerde euen in his awne lande.
19:8	And Rabsakeh went backe agayne, and founde the kynge of Assyria fyghting agaynst Libna: for he had hearde, howe that he was departed from Lachis.
19:9	And when he hearde men saye of Thirhaka kynge of the blacke Mores: Beholde, he is come out to fyght agaynst the,
19:10	he departed, & sent messengers vnto Hezekia sayinge. Thus speake to Hezekia kynge of Iuda, sayinge: let not thy God disceaue the, in whom thou trustest, sayinge: Ierusalem shalt not be delyuered into the hande of the kynge of Assyria.
19:11	Beholde, thou hast heard, what the kynges of Assyria haue done to all landes, howe they haue vtterly destroyed them. And shalt thou escape?
19:12	Haue the Gods of the hethen delyuered them, which myne aunsetries haue destroyed? As Gozan, & Haran, Rezeph, & the chyldren of Eden which were in Bithlasar?
19:13	where is the kynge of Hamath, and the kyng of Arphad, the kynge of the cytie of Sepharnaim, & of Hena & Iua?
19:14	So Hezekia receaued the letter of the hande of the messengers, and redd it: And Hezekia went vp into the house of the Lorde, & layde it abroade before the Lorde.
19:15	And Hezekia prayed before the Lorde, and sayde: O Lord God of Israel, which dwellest betwene the Cherubs, thou art God alone ouer all the kyngdomes of the erth, thou hast made heauen & earth Lord,
19:16	bowe downe thine eare, & heare: Open Lorde thyne eyes (I beseche the) & se: and heare the wordes of Sennacherib which hath sent thys man to rayle on the lyuynge God.
19:17	Of a truthe Lorde, the kinges of Assyria haue destroyed nacyons and their landes,
19:18	and haue sett fyre on their Gods. For they were no Gods, but the worcke of the handes of man: euen of wood & stone. And they destroyed them.
19:19	Nowe therfore, O Lorde oure God, I beseche the, saue thou vs out of hys hande, that all the kyngdomes of the earth maye knowe, that thou onely art the Lorde God.
19:20	And Isay the sonne of Amoz sent to Hezekia, sayinge: thus sayth the Lord God of Israel: that which thou hast prayed me, concernynge Sennacherib kynge of Assyria, I haue hearde it.
19:21	This is therfore the worde that the Lord hath sayde of him: The virgin euen the daughter of Sion hath despysed the, and laughed the to scorne (o thou kynge of Assyria) the daughter of Ierusalem hath shaken her head at the.
19:22	Whom hast thou rayled on, & whom hast thou blasphemed? Agaynst whom hast thou exalted thy voyce, and lyfted vp thyne eyes so hye. Euen agaynst the holy of Israel.
19:23	By the hande of thy messengers thou hast rayled on the Lorde and sayde: wt the multitude of my charettes I am come vp to the toppes of the mountaynes, euen alonge by the sydes of Libanon, and I wyll cut downe the hye Cedar trees and the lustie fyrre trees therof: and I will go into the lodging of his nest, & into the wood of his playne.
19:24	I haue digged & droncke straunge waters, and wt the steppe of my goynge will I drye all the water poles that are beseaged.
19:25	Hast thou not hearde, howe I haue ordeyned soch a thinge a great whyle a goo, & haue prepared it from the begynninge? And shall I not nowe bringe it forth, that it maye destroye, and to brynge stronge cyties into wast heapes of stones?
19:26	And the enhabiters of them shalbe of lytle power, & faynt herted, and confounded, and shalbe lyke the grasse of the felde, or grene herbe, or as the heye on the toppes of the houses: or as the corne that is vnripe, & smytten wt blastinge.
19:27	I knowe thy dwellinge, thy commynge out, and thy goynge in, & thy furye agaynst me.
19:28	And because thou ragest agaynst me, and thynckest thy selfe so blessed: this is come vp vnto myne earis, & I will put my hoke in thy nastrels, and my bytt in thy lyppes, and will bringe the backe agayne, the same waye thou camest.
19:29	And this shalbe a sygne vnto the (O Hezekia) Ye shall eate this yere of soch thynges as growe of them selues, and the next yeare soch as come vp of those that dyd growe of their awne accorde. And the thirde yere sowe ye and reape, plant vyneyardes and eate the frutes therof.
19:30	And it that is escaped & lefte, of the daughter of Iuda, shall yet agayne take rotinge downe warde and beare frute vpwarde.
19:31	For out of Ierusalem shall go a remnaunt, and a nombre that shall escape out of mount Sion: the Zele of the Lorde of Hostes shall brynge thys thynge to passe.
19:32	Wherfore, thus sayth the Lorde, concerninge the kinge of Assyria: he shall not come to this cytie, nor shote an arowe into it, nor come before it with shilde, nor cast bancke agaynst it:
19:33	but shall go backe agayne the waye he came, & shall not come into this cytie sayeth the Lorde.
19:34	For I will defende this cytie, to saue it, for myne awne sake, and for Dauid my seruauntes sake.
19:35	And so it came to passe that the selfe same nyght the angell of the Lorde went out & smote in the Hoste of the Assyrians an hundred foure skore and fyue thousande. And when the remnaunt were vp erlye in the mornynge: they sawe, they were all deed coarsses.
19:36	And so Sennacherib kynge of Assyria auoyded and departed, and went agayne, & dwelt at Niniue.
19:37	And it fortuned, that as he was in a temple worshyppynge Nisroch hys God, Adramelech & Sacesar his awne sonnes smote hym with the swerde. And they escaped into the lande of Armenia, and Asarhaddon his sonne raygned in his steade.
