22:3 | And it came to passe, that in the eyghtteenth yere of the raigne of king Iosia, the king sent Saphan the sonne of Azalia the sonne of Mesulam the scribe to the house of the Lord, saying |
22:4 | Go vp to Helkia the hye priest, that he may summe the siluer whiche is brought into the house of the Lorde, which the kepers of the porche haue gathered of the people |
22:5 | And let them deliuer it into the hande of them that do the worke, and that haue the ouersight of the house of the Lord: and let them geue it to them that worke in the house of the Lorde, to repaire the decayed places of the temple |
22:6 | Euen vnto carpenters and masons, and workers vpon the walles, and for to bye tymber and free stone, to repaire the temple |
22:7 | Howbeit, let no reckenyng be made with them of the money that is deliuered into their hande, for their vse is to deale faithfully |
22:8 | And Helkia the hie priest said vnto Saphan the scribe: I haue founde the booke of the lawe in the house of the Lorde. And Helkia gaue the booke to Saphan, and he read in it |
22:9 | And Saphan the scribe came to the king, and brought him worde againe, and sayde: Thy seruauntes haue gathered the money that was founde in the temple, and haue deliuered it vnto them that do the worke, and that haue the ouersight of the house of the Lorde |
22:10 | And Saphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Helkia the priest hath deliuered me a booke: And Saphan read in it before the king |
22:11 | And it fortuned, that when the king had hearde the wordes of the booke of the lawe, he rent his clothes |
22:12 | And the king commaunded Helkia the priest, and Ahikan the sonne of Saphan, and Achbor the sonne of Michaia, and Saphan the scribe, and Asahia a seruaunt of the kinges, saying |
22:13 | Go ye and enquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for al Iuda, concerning the wordes of this booke that is founde: For great is the wrath of the Lord that is kyndled against vs, because our fathers haue not hearkened vnto the wordes of this booke, to do according vnto al that which is written therin for vs |
22:14 | So Helkia the hye priest and Ahikam, Achbor, and Saphan, and Asahia, went vnto Hulda the prophetisse the wyfe of Sallum the sonne of Thikua the sonne of Harhas keper of the wardrope: (which prophetisse dwelt in Hierusalem in the house of the doctrine:) & they communed with her |
22:15 | And she aunswered them: thus sayth the Lorde God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me |
22:16 | Thus sayth the Lorde: Behold, I wil bring euyll vpon this place, and on the inhabiters therof, euen all the wordes of the booke whiche the king of Iuda hath read |
22:17 | Because they haue forsaken me, and haue burnt incense vnto other gods, to anger me with all the workes of their handes: My wrath also shalbe kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched |
22:18 | But to the king of Iuda whiche sent you to aske counsell of the Lord, so shall ye say: Thus sayth the Lorde God of Israel, as touching the wordes whiche ye haue hearde |
22:19 | Because thyne heart dyd melt, and because thou hast humbled thy selfe before me the Lorde, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabiters of the same, howe that they should be destroyed and accursed: and hast rent thy clothes and wept before me, of that also haue I hearde sayth the Lorde |
22:20 | Beholde therefore I wyll receaue thee vnto thy fathers, and thou shalt be put into thy graue in peace, and thyne eyes shall not see all the euill which I wyll bryng vpon this place. And they brought the king worde againe |
22:1 | Iosiah was eight yeere olde when he beganne to reigne, and hee reigned one and thirtie yeere in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Iedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozcath. |
22:2 | And hee did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed neither to the right hand, nor to the left. |
22:3 | And in the eighteenth yeere of King Iosiah, the King sent Shaphan the sonne of Azaliah the sonne of Meshullam the chanceller to ye house of the Lord, saying, |
22:4 | Goe vp to Hilkiah the high Priest, that hee may summe the siluer which is brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the doore haue gathered of the people. |
22:5 | And let them deliuer it into the hande of them that doe the worke, and haue the ouersight of the house of the Lord: let them giue it to them that worke in the house of the Lord, to repaire the decayed places of the house: |
22:6 | To wit, vnto the artificers and carpenters and masons, and to bye timber, and hewed stone to repaire the house. |
22:7 | Howebeit, let no rekoning bee made with them of the money, that is deliuered into their hand: for they deale faithfully. |
22:8 | And Hilkiah the high Priest sayde vnto Shaphan the chanceller, I haue found the booke of the Lawe in the house of the Lord: and Hilkiah gaue the booke to Shaphan, and hee reade it. |
22:9 | So Shaphan the chanceller came to ye King, and brought him word againe, and saide, Thy seruants haue gathered the money, that was found in the house, and haue deliuered it vnto the hands of them that doe the worke, and haue the ouersight of the house of the Lord. |
22:10 | Also Shaphan the chanceller shewed the King saying, Hilkiah the Priest hath deliuered me a booke. And Shaphan read it before the King. |
22:11 | And when the King had heard the wordes of the booke of the Law, he rent his clothes. |
22:12 | Therefore the King commanded Hilkiah the Priest, and Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan, and Achbor the sonne of Michaiah, and Shaphan the chanceller, and Asahiah the Kings seruant, saying, |
22:13 | Go ye and inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Iudah concerning the wordes of this booke that is founde: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against vs, because our fathers haue not obeyed the wordes of this booke, to doe according vnto all that which is written therein for vs. |
22:14 | So Hilkiah the Priest and Ahikam, and Achbor and Shaphan, and Asahiah went vnto Huldah the Prophetesse the wife of Shallum, ye sonne of Tikuah, the sonne of Harhas keeper of the wardrobe: (and she dwelt in Ierusalem in the colledge) and they communed with her. |
22:15 | And shee answered them, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Tel the man that sent you to mee, |
22:16 | Thus sayth the Lord, Behold, I wil bring euill vpon this place, and on the inhabitants thereof, euen al the words of the booke which ye King of Iudah hath read, |
22:17 | Because they haue forsaken mee, and haue burnt incense vnto other gods, to anger me with all ye works of their hands: my wrath also shalbe kindled against this place and shall not be queched: |
22:18 | But to the King of Iudah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, so shall ye say vnto him, Thus sayeth the Lord God of Israel, The wordes that thou hast heard, shall come to passe. |
22:19 | But because thine heart did melt, and thou hast humbled thy selfe before the Lord, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants of the same, to wit, that it should be destroyed and accursed, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me, I haue also heard it, saith the Lord. |
22:20 | Beholde therefore, I wil gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be put in thy graue in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the euil, which I will bring vpon this place. Thus they brought the King worde againe. |
22:1 | Iosia was eyght yere olde when he beganne to raygne, and he raygned .xxxi. yere in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Iedida the daughter of Adaia of Bozcath. |
22:2 | He dyd that which is ryght in the syght of the Lorde, and walked in all the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed nether to the ryght hande or to the lefte. |
22:3 | And it came to passe, that in the .xviii. yeare of the raygne of kynge Iosia, the kynge sent Saphan the sonne of Azalia the sonne of Mesulam the scribe, to the house of the Lorde, sayenge: |
22:4 | go vp to Helkia the hye Preast, that he maye somme the syluer which is brought into the house of the Lorde, which the kepers of the porche haue gathered of the people, |
22:5 | and let them delyuer it into the hande of them that do the worcke, and that haue the ouersyght of the house of the Lorde: and let them geue it to them that worke in the house of the Lorde (to repayre the decayed places of the temple,) |
22:6 | euen vnto carpenters & masons, and workers vpon the walles, and for to bye tymbre and fre stone to repayre the temple. |
22:7 | Howbeit, let no rekonynge be made with them of the moneye that is delyuered into their hande, for their vse is to deale faithfully. |
22:8 | And Helkia the hye preste sayd vnto Saphan the scribe: I haue founde the boke of the lawe in the housse of the Lorde, and Helkia gaue the boke to Saphan, and he red in it. |
22:9 | And Saphan the scrybe came to the kynge, and brought him worde agayne, and sayde: thy seruauntes haue bestowed the money (that was founde in the temple) & haue delyuered it vnto them that do the worke, & that haue the ouersyght of the house of the Lorde. |
22:10 | And Saphan the scrybe shewed the kynge, sayeng: Helkia the preaste hath delyuered me a boke. And Saphan red in it before the kynge. |
22:11 | And it fortuned, that whan the kynge had hearde the wordes of the boke of the lawe, he rent his clothes. |
22:12 | And the kyng commaunded Helkia the Preast, & Ahikam the sonne of Saphan, and Achbor the sonne of Michaia, and Saphan the scrybe, and Asahia a seruaunt of the kynges, sayenge: |
22:13 | go ye and enquyre of the Lorde for me and for the people, and for all Iuda, concernynge the wordes of thys boke that is founde. For great is the wrath of the Lorde that is kendled agaynst vs, because oure fathers haue not herkened vnto the wordes of thys boke, to do accordinge vnto all that which is written therin for vs. |
22:14 | So Helkia the hye preaste and Akikam, Achbor, and Saphan, and Asahia went vnto Hulda the prophetisse the wyfe of Sullam the sonne of Thikua the sonne of Harham keper of the wardrope: whyche prophetisse dwelt in Ierusalem in the house of the doctrine, and they commoned with her. |
22:15 | And she answered them: thus sayth the Lord God of Israel. Tell the man that sent you to me: |
22:16 | thus sayth the Lord: beholde, I wyll brynge euell vpon thys place, and on the inhabiters therof. (euen all the wordes of the boke which the kynge of Iuda hath red) |
22:17 | because they haue forsaken me, and haue burnt incense vnto other Gods, to angre me with all the workes of theyr handes: My wrath also shalbe kyndled agaynst thys place, and shall not be quenched. |
22:18 | But to the kynge of Iuda (which sent you to aske councell of the Lorde,) so shall ye saye: thus sayth the Lorde God of Israel as touchynge the wordes which ye haue heard: |
22:19 | Because thyne herte dyd melt, and because thou hast humbled thy selfe before me the Lorde, when thou heardest what I spake agaynst thys place, and agaynst the enhabiters of the same (howe that they shulde be destroyed and acursed:) and hast rent thy clothes and wepte before me: of that also haue I hearde, sayth the Lorde. |
22:20 | Beholde therfore, I wyll receaue the vnto thy fathers, and thou shalt be put into thy graue in peace, and thyne eyes shall not se all the euell, which I wyll bringe vpon this place. And they brought the kyng worde agayne. |
