>
23:1And then the king sent, and there gathered vnto him all the elders of Iuda and of Hierusalem
23:2And the king went vp into the house of the Lorde, with all the men of Iuda, and all the inhabitours of Hierusalem, with the priestes, and prophetes, and all the people both small and great: And he read in the eares of them al the wordes of the couenaunt which was founde in the house of the Lorde
23:3And the king stoode by a piller, & made a couenaunt before the Lorde, that they should walke after the Lorde, and kepe his commaundementes, his witnesses, and his statutes, with all their heart and all their soule, and make good the wordes of the sayde appoyntment, that were written in the foresayde booke: And all the people consented to the appoyntment
23:4And the king commaunded Helchia the hie prieste, and the inferior priestes, and the kepers of the ornamentes, to bryng out of the temple of the Lorde all the vessels that were made for Baal, for the idoll groues, and for all the hoast of heauen: And he burnt them without Hierusalem in the fieldes of Cedron, and carryed the asshes of them into Bethel
23:5And he put downe the ministers of Baal whom the kinges of Iuda had founded to burne incense in the high places and cities of Iuda that were rounde about Hierusalem, & also them that burnt incense vnto Baal, to the sunne, to the moone, to the planets, and to all the hoast of heauen
23:6And he brought out the groue from the temple of the Lorde without Hierusalem vnto the brooke Cedron, and burnt it there at the brooke Cedron, and stampt it to powder, and cast the dust thereof vpon the graues of the children of the people
23:7And he brake downe the celles of the male stewes that were by the house of the Lorde, where the women woue hanginges for the idol groue
23:8And he brought all the priestes out of the cities of Iuda, and defiled the high places where the priestes had burnt incense, euen from Geba to Beerseba, and destroyed the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Iosua ye gouernour of the citie, which were as a man goeth in on the left hande of the gate of the citie
23:9Neuerthelesse, the priestes of the high places came not vp to the aulter of the Lorde in Hierusalem, saue onely they did eate of the sweete bread among their brethren
23:10And he defiled Thopheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, because no man should offer his sonne or his daughter in fire to Moloch
23:11He put downe the horses that the kinges of Iuda had geuen to the sunne, at the entering in of the house of the Lorde, by the chambre of Nathanmelech the chamberlayne, which was ruler of the suburbes, and burnt the charets of the sunne with fire
23:12And the aulters that were on the top of the parlour of Ahaz which the kinges of Iuda had made, and the aulters which Manasse had made in the two courtes of the house of the Lorde, did the king breake downe, & ran thence, and cast the dust of them into the brooke Cedron
23:13And the high places that were before Hierusalem, on the right hand of the mount Oliuet, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for Astaroth the idol of the Zidons, and for Chamos the idol of the Moabites, and for Milthon the abhominable idoll of the children of Ammon, those the king defiled
23:14And brake the images, and cut downe the idol groues, and filled their places with the bones of men
23:15Moreouer, the aulter that was at Bethel, the high places made by Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat which made Israel sinne, both the aulter and also the high places he brake downe, and burnt the high places, and stampt it to powder, and burnt the idol groue
23:16And as Iosia turned him selfe, he spyed the graues that were in the mount, and sent and fet the bones out of the graues, and burnt them vpon the aulter, to pollute it, according to the word of the Lorde that the man of God proclaymed which tolde the same wordes
23:17Then he saide: What title is that that I see? And the men of the citie tolde him: It is the sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Iuda, and tolde the selfe same thinges that thou hast done to the aulter of Bethel
23:18And he saide, let him be: see that no man moue his bones. And so his bones were saued, with the bones of a prophete that came out of Samaria
23:19And all the houses of the high places in the cities of Samaria, which the king of Israel had made to anger the Lorde withal those Iosia put out of the way, & did to them according to all the actes that he had done in Bethel
23:20And he sacrifised all the priestes of the high places that were there, euen vpon the aulters, and burnt mens bones vpon them, and returned to Hierusalem
23:21And the king commaunded all the people, saying: Kepe the feast of Passouer vnto the Lorde your God, as it is written in the booke of this couenaunt
23:22There was no Passouer holden lyke that from the dayes of the iudges that iudged Israel, and in all the dayes of the kinges of Israel and of the kinges of Iuda
23:23In the eighteenth yere of king Iosia, was this Passouer holden to the Lord in Hierusalem
23:24And therto workers with spirites, & soothsayers, images, idols, and all the abhominations that were spyed in the lande of Iuda and in Hierusalem, those did Iosia put out of the way, to perfourme the wordes of the lawe, which were written in the booke that Helchia the priest founde in the house of the Lord
23:25Lyke vnto him was there no king before him that turned to the Lorde with all his heart, with all his soule, and all his might, according to all the lawe of Moyses, neither after him arose ther any such as he
23:26Notwithstanding, the Lorde turned not from the fiercenesse of his great wrath wherewith he was angry against Iuda, because of all the prouocations that Manasse had prouoked him withall
23:27And the Lorde sayde: I wyll put Iuda also out of my sight, as I haue done away Israel, and wyll cast of this citie Hierusalem which I haue chosen, and the house of which I sayde, My name shall be there
23:28The rest of the wordes that concerne Iosia, and all that he did, are they not written in the booke of the cronicles of the kinges of Iuda
23:29In his dayes Pharao Necho king of Egypt went vp against the king of Assyria to the riuer of Euphrates: And king Iosia went against him, and was slaine of him at Megiddo when he had seene him
23:30And his seruauntes carryed him dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Hierusalem, & buryed him in his owne sepulchre: And the people of the lande toke Iehoahaz the sonne of Iosia, and annoynted him, and made him king in his fathers steade
23:31Iehoahaz was twentie & three yeres olde when he began to raigne, and raigned three monethes in Hierusalem: His mothers name also was Hamiel, the daughter of Ierenna of Libna
23:32And he did euil in the sight of the Lord, according to all thinges as his fathers had done
23:33And Pharao Necho put him in bondes at Ribla in the lande of Hamath while he raigned in Hierusalem, and put the lande to a tribute of an hundred talents of siluer, and a talent of golde
23:34And Pharao Necho made Eliakim the sonne of Iosia king in the roome of Iosia his father, and turned his name to Iehoakim, and toke Iehoahaz away: which when he came to Egypt, dyed there
23:35And Iehoakim gaue the siluer and the golde to Pharao, & tayed the lande, to geue the money according to the commaundement of Pharao: requiring of euery man according to their habilitie siluer and golde, euen of the people of the lande, to geue vnto Pharao Necho
23:36Iehoakim was twentie & fiue yeres olde when he began to raigne, and he raigned aleuen yeres in Hierusalem: His mothers name also was Zebuda, the daughter of Pedaia of Ruma
23:37And he did that which was euill in the sight of the Lord, according to al things as his fathers had done

23:2And the King went vp into the house of the Lord, with all the men of Iudah and all the inhabitants of Ierusalem with him, and the Priests and Prophets, and all the people both small and great: and he reade in their eares all the wordes of the booke of the couenant, which was found in the house of the Lord.
23:3And the King stood by the pillar, and made a couenant before the Lord, that they shoulde walke after the Lord, and keepe his commandements, and his testimonies, and his statutes with all their heart, and with all their soule, that they might accomplish the wordes of this couenant written in this booke. And all the people stood to the couenant.
23:4Then the King commanded Hilkiah the hie Priest and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the doore, to bring out of ye Temple of the Lord all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the groue, and for all the hoste of heauen, and he burnt them without Ierusalem in the fieldes of Kedron, and caryed the pouder of them into Beth-el.
23:5And he put downe the Chemarims, whom the Kings of Iudah had founded to burne incense in the hie places, and in the cities of Iudah, and about Ierusalem, and also them that burnt incense vnto Baal, to the sunne and to the moone, and to the planets, and to all the hoste of heauen.
23:6And he brought out the groue from the Temple of the Lord without Ierusalem vnto the valley of Kedron, and burnt it in the valley Kedron, and stampt it to pouder, and cast the dust thereof vpon the graues of the children of the people.
23:7And hee brake downe the houses of the Sodomites, that were in the house of the Lord, where the women woue hangings for the groue.
23:8Also he brought all the priests out of the cities of Iudah, and defiled the hie places where the Priests had burnt incense, euen from Geba to Beer-sheba, and destroyed the hie places of the gates, that were in the entring in of the gate of Ioshua the gouernour of the citie, which was at the left hand of the gate of the citie.
23:9Neuerthelesse the Priests of the hie places came not vp to the altar of the Lord in Ierusalem, saue onely they did eate of the vnleauened bread among their brethren.
23:10He defiled also Topheth, which was in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man shoulde make his sonne or his daughter passe through the fire to Molech.
23:11He put downe also the horses that the Kings of Iudah had giuen to the sunne at the entring in of the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nethan-melech the eunuche, which was ruler of the suburbes, and burnt the charets of the sunne with fire.
23:12And the altars that were on the top of the chamber of Ahaz, which the Kings of Iudah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord did the King breake downe, and hasted thence, and cast the dust of them in the brooke Kedron.
23:13Moreouer the King defiled the hie places that were before Ierusalem and on the right hand of the mount of corruption (which Salomon the King of Israel had buylt for Ashtoreth the idole of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the idole of the Moabites, and for Milchom the abomination of the children of Ammon)
23:14And he brake the images in pieces, and cut downe the groues and filled their places with the bones of men.
23:15Furthermore the altar that was at Beth-el, and the hie place made by Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne, both this altar and also the hie place, brake he downe, and burnt the hie place, and stampt it to powder and burnt the groue.
23:16And as Iosiah turned himselfe, he spied the graues, that were in the mount, and sent and tooke the bones out of the graues, and burnt them vpon the altar and polluted it, according to the word of the Lord, that the man of God proclaimed, which cryed the same wordes.
23:17Then he sayde, What title is that which I see? And the men of the citie sayd vnto him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Iudah, and tolde these things that thou hast done to the altar of Beth-el.
23:18Then sayde he, Let him alone: let none remooue his bones. So his bones were saued with the bones of the Prophet that came from Samaria.
23:19Iosiah also tooke away all the houses of the hie places, which were in the cities of Samaria, which the Kings of Israel had made to anger the Lord, and did to them according to all the factes that he had done in Beth-el.
23:20And he sacrificed all the Priests of the hie places, that were there vpon the altars, and burnt mens bones vpon them, and returned to Ierusalem.
23:21Then the king commanded all the people, saying, Keepe the passeouer vnto the Lord your God, as it is written in the booke of this couenant.
23:22And there was no Passeouer holden like that from the dayes of the Iudges that iudged Israel, nor in all the dayes of the Kinges of Israel, and of the Kings of Iudah.
23:23And in the eightenth yere of King Iosiah was this Passeouer celebrated to the Lord in Ierusalem.
23:24Iosiah also tooke away them that had familiar spirits, and the soothsayers, and the images, and the idoles, and al the abominations that were espied in the lande of Iudah and in Ierusalem, to performe the wordes of the Lawe, which were written in the booke that Hilkiah the Priest found in the house of the Lord.
23:25Like vnto him was there no King before him, that turned to the Lord with al his heart, and with all his soule, and with all his might according to all the Lawe of Moses, neither after him arose there anie like him.
23:26Notwithstanding the Lord turned not from the fiercenesse of his great wrath wherewith he was angrie against Iudah, because of all the prouocatios wherwith Manasseh had prouoked him.
23:27Therefore the Lord saide, I will put Iudah also out of my sight, as I haue put away Israel, and will cast off this citie Ierusalem, which I haue chosen, and the house whereof I said, My name shalbe there.
23:28Concerning the rest of the actes of Iosiah, and all that hee did, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Iudah?
23:29In his dayes Pharaoh Nechoh King of Egypt went vp against the King of Asshur to the riuer Perath. And King Iosiah went against him, whome when Pharaoh sawe, he slewe him at Megiddo.
23:30Then his seruants caryed him dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Ierusalem, and buried him in his owne sepulchre. And the people of the lande tooke Iehoahaz the sonne of Iosiah, and anointed him, and made him King in his fathers steade.
23:31Iehoahaz was three and twentie yeere olde when he beganne to reigne, and reigned three moneths in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Hamutal the daughter of Ieremiah of Libnah.
23:32And he did euill in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done.
23:33And Pharaoh Nechoh put him in bondes at Riblah in the lande of Hamath, while he reigned in Ierusalem, and put the lande to a tribute of an hundreth talents of siluer, and a talent of golde.
23:34And Pharaoh Nechoh made Eliakim the sonne of Iosiah King in steade of Iosiah his father, and turned his name to Iehoiakim, and tooke Iehoahaz away, which when he came to Egypt, dyed there.
23:35And Iehoiakim gaue the siluer and the golde to Pharaoh, and taxed the land to giue the money, according to the commadement of Pharaoh: he leuyed of euery man of the people of the lande, according to his value, siluer and golde to giue vnto Pharaoh Nechoh.
23:36Iehoiakim was fiue and twentie yere olde, when he began to reigne, and he reigned eleuen yeeres in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Zebudah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.
23:37And he did euill in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done.

23:3And the kynge stode by a pyler and made a couenaunt before the Lorde, that they shulde walke after the Lord, and kepe his commaundmentes, hys wytnesses, & hys statutes with all theyr herte, and all theyr soule, and make good the wordes of the sayde appoyntment that were wrytten in the forsayde boke. And all the people consented to the appoyntment.
23:4And the kynge commaunded Helkia the hye preaste, and the inferioure preastes and the kepers of the ornamentes, to brynge out of the temple of the Lorde, all the vesselles that were made for Baal, for the Idole groues & for all the Hoste of heauen. And he burnt them without Ierusalem in the feldes of Cedron, and caryed the asshes of them into Bethel.
23:5And he put downe the ministers of Baal whom the kynges of Iuda had founded to burne incense in the hyllaulters and cyties of Iuda, that were rounde aboute Ierusalem, and also them that burnt incense vnto Baal, to the sonne, to the mone, to the planetes, and to all the Hoste of heauen.
23:6And he brought out the groue from the temple of the Lorde without Ierusalem vnto the broke Cedron, and burnt it there at the broke Cedron, and stampte it to pouldre, and cast the duste therof vpon the graues of the chyldren of the people.
23:7And he brake downe the celles of the male stues that were by the house of the Lorde, where the wemen woue hangynges for the Idole groue.
23:8And he brought all the preastes out of the cyties of Iuda, and defyled the hyllaulters, where the preastes had burnt incense: euen from Geba to Beerseba, and destroied the aulters of the Gates, that were in the enterynge in of the gate of Iosua the gouernoure of the citie which were (as a man goeth in) on the lefte hande of the gate of the cytie.
23:9Neuerthelesse the preastes of the hyllaultares came not vp to the aulter of the Lorde in Ierusalem, saue onlye they dyd eate of the swete breade among theyr brethren.

23:13And the hyllaulters that were before Ierusalem on the ryght hande of the mounte Oliuete (which Salomon the kynge of Israel had buylded for Astaroth the Idoll of the Zidons, and for Chamos the Idoll of the Moabites, and for Milchom the abhomynable Idoll of the children of Ammon) those the kinge defyled:
23:14and brake the ymages, and cut downe the Idoll groues, and fylled theyr places with the bones of men.
23:15Moreouer the aulter that was at Bethel, the hyllaulter made by Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat (which made Israel synne) bothe the aulter and also the hyll, he brake downe and burnt the hyll alter and stampte it to powder, and burnt the Idole groue.
23:16And as Iosia turned hym selfe, he spyed the graues that were in the mount, and sent and fett the bones out of the graues, and burnt them vpon the aulter, to polute it, accordynge to the worde of the Lord that the man of God proclaymed which tolde the same wordes.
23:17Then he sayde: what graue stone is younder that I se? And the men of the cytie tolde hym, it is the sepulchre of the man of God, whych came from Iuda, and tolde the selfe same thynges that thou hast done to the aulter of Bethel.
23:18And he sayd let hym be: se that no man moue hys bones. And so hys bones were saued with the bones of a prophete that came out of Samaria.
23:19And all the houses of the hyllaulters in the cyties of Samaria which the kynges of Israel had made, to angre withall: those Iosia put out of the waye, and dyd to them according to all the actes that he had done in Bethel.
23:20And he sacrifyced all the preastes of the hylaulters that were ther euen vpon the aulters, and burnt mennes bones vpon them, and returned to Ierusalem.
23:21And the kynge commaunded all the people, sayeng: kepe the feast of passeouer vnto the Lorde youre God as it is wrytten in the boke of thys couenaunt.
23:22There was no Passeouer holden lyke that, from the dayes of the iudges that iudged Israel, and in all the dayes of the kynges of Israel and of the kynges of Iuda.
23:23In the .xviii. yere of kynge Iosia was this Passouer holden to the Lorde in Ierusalem.

23:26Not withstandinge the Lorde turned not from the fearcenesse of hys great wrath (wherwith he was angrie agaynst Iuda) because of all the prouocacions that Manasse had prouoked hym withall.
23:27And the Lorde sayde: I wyll put Iuda also, out of my syght, as I haue done awaye Israel, and wyll cast of thys cytie Ierusalem which I haue chosen, and the house of whyche I sayde: my name shalbe there.
23:28The rest of the wordes that concerne Iosia and all that he dyd, are they not wrytten in the boke of the Chronycles of the kynges of Iuda?

23:35And Iehoakim gaue the syluer and the golde to Pharao: & taxed the lande, to geue the moneye accordinge to the request of Pharao: requyringe of euery man (accordynge to theyr abylite) syluer and golde: euen of the people of the lande, to geue vnto Pharao Necho.
23:36Iehoakim was .xxv. yere olde when he beganne to raygne, and he raygned a .xi. yere in Ierusalem. Hys mothers name also was Zebuda the daughter of Pedaia of Ruma.
23:37And he dyd that which was euell in the syght of the Lorde, accordynge to all thinge as his fathers had done.
