| 21:2 | O heare my wordes, and that shalbe my comfort of you. |
| 21:3 | Suffre me a lytle, that I maye speake also, and then laugh my wordes to scorne. |
| 21:4 | Is it for mans sake that I make thys disputacyon? Which yf it were so, shulde not my sprete be then in sore trouble? |
| 21:5 | Marcke me well, and be abasshed, and laye youre hand vpon youre mouth. |
| 21:6 | For when I consyder my selfe, I am afrayed, and my fleshe is smytten with feare. |
| 21:7 | Wherfore do wycked men lyue in health and prosperite, come to theyr olde age, and increase in ryches? |
| 21:8 | Their chyldren lyue in theyr syght, and theyr generacyon before theyr eyes. |
| 21:9 | Their houses are safe from all feare, and the rodd of God doth not smyte them. |
| 21:10 | Their bullocke gendreth, and that not out of tyme: theyr cowe calueth, and is not vnfrutefull. |
| 21:11 | They sende forth their children by flockes, and their sonnes lede the daunce. |
| 21:12 | They beare with them tabrettes and harpes, and haue instrumentes of musycke at their pleasure. |
| 21:13 | They spende their dayes in welthynesse: but sodenly they go downe to hell. |
| 21:14 | They saye also vnto God: go from vs, we desyre not the knowledge of thy wayes. |
| 21:15 | Who is the Allmyghtie, that we shulde serue hym? And what profyt shuld we haue to submyt our selues vnto him? |
| 21:16 | Lo, there is vtterly no goodnesse in them, therfore will not I haue to do with the councell of the vngodly. |
| 21:17 | How oft shall the candle of the wycked be put out? how oft commeth their destruccion vpon them? O what sorowe shal God geue them for their parte in hys wrath? |
| 21:18 | Yee, they shall be euen as haye before the wynde, and as chaffe that the storme caryeth awaye. |
| 21:19 | And though God saue their children from soch sorowe, yet wyll he so rewarde them selues, that they shall knowe it. |
| 21:20 | Their awne destruccion and misery shall they se with their eyes, and drincke of the fearfull wrath of the Almyghty. |
| 21:21 | For what careth he what become of his housholde after hys death, whan the nombre of his monethes is cut short? |
| 21:22 | In as moch then as God hath the hyest power of all, who can teach him eny knowledge? |
| 21:23 | One dyeth now when he is mightye and at hys best, ryche, and in prosperite: |
| 21:24 | euen when his bowels are at the fattest, and hys bones full of mary. |
| 21:25 | Another dyeth in sorowe and heuinesse, and neuer had good dayes. |
| 21:26 | They shall slepe both a lyke in the earth, & the wormes shall couer them. |
| 21:27 | Beholde, I knowe what ye thincke, yee, and the sotiltye that ye ymagyn agaynst me. |
| 21:28 | For ye saye: where is the princes palace? and where is the dwellynge of the vngodly: |
| 21:29 | haue ye not asked them that go by the waye? Doutlesse ye cannot denye their tokens, |
| 21:30 | that the wicked is kepte vnto the daye of destruccyon, and that the vngodly shalbe brought forth to the daye of wrath. |
| 21:31 | Who darre reproue him for his waye to hys face? Who wyll rewarde him for the vngraciousnesse that he doth? |
| 21:32 | Yet shall he be brought to his graue, and dwell among the heape of the deed. |
| 21:33 | Then shall he be fayne to be buried amonge the stones of the playne. All men also must folowe him, and there are innumerable gone before him. |
| 21:34 | How vayne then is the comforte that ye geue me? Doth not falshede remayne in all youre answers? |
| 21:1 | Forsothe Joob answeride, and seide, |
| 21:2 | Y preye, here ye my wordis, and do ye penaunce. |
| 21:3 | Suffre ye me, that Y speke; and leiye ye aftir my wordis, if it schal seme worthi. |
| 21:4 | Whether my disputyng is ayens man, that skilfuli Y owe not to be sori? |
| 21:5 | Perseyue ye me, and be ye astonyed; and sette ye fyngur on youre mouth. |
| 21:6 | And whanne Y bithenke, Y drede, and tremblyng schakith my fleisch. |
| 21:7 | Whi therfor lyuen wickid men? Thei ben enhaunsid, and coumfortid with richessis. |
| 21:8 | Her seed dwellith bifor hem; the cumpeny of kynesmen, and of sones of sones dwellith in her siyt. |
| 21:9 | Her housis ben sikur, and pesible; and the yerde of God is not on hem. |
| 21:10 | The cow of hem conseyuede, and caluede not a deed calf; the cow caluyde, and is not priued of hir calf. |
| 21:11 | Her litle children goen out as flockis; and her yonge children `maken fulli ioye with pleies. |
| 21:12 | Thei holden tympan, and harpe; and ioien at the soun of orgun. |
| 21:13 | Thei leden in goodis her daies; and in a point thei goen doun to hellis. |
| 21:14 | Whiche men seiden to God, Go thou awei fro us; we nylen the kunnyng of thi weies. |
| 21:15 | Who is Almiyti God, that we serue him? and what profitith it to vs, if we preien him? |
| 21:16 | Netheles for her goodis ben not in her hond, `that is, power, the counsel of wickid men be fer fro me. |
| 21:17 | Hou ofte schal the lanterne of wickid men be quenchid, and flowing schal come on hem, and God schal departe the sorewis of his stronge veniaunce? |
| 21:18 | Thei schulen be as chaffis bifor the face of the wynd; and as a deed sparcle, whiche the whirlewynd scaterith abrood. |
| 21:19 | God schal kepe the sorewe of the fadir to hise sones; and whanne he hath yoldun, thanne he schal wite. |
| 21:20 | Hise iyen schulen se her sleyng; and he schal drynke of the stronge veniaunce of Almyyti God. |
| 21:21 | For whi what perteyneth it to hym of his hows aftir hym, thouy the noumbre of his monethis be half takun awey? |
| 21:22 | Whether ony man schal teche God kunnyng, which demeth hem that ben hiye? |
| 21:23 | This yuel man dieth strong and hool, riche and blesful, `that is, myrie. |
| 21:24 | Hise entrails ben ful of fatnesse; and hise boonys ben moistid with merowis. |
| 21:25 | Sotheli anothir wickid man dieth in the bittirnesse of his soule, and with outen ony richessis. |
| 21:26 | And netheles thei schulen slepe togidere in dust, and wormes schulen hile hem. |
| 21:27 | Certis Y knowe youre wickid thouytis, and sentensis ayens me. |
| 21:28 | For ye seien, Where is the hows of the prince? and where ben the tabernaclis of wickid men? |
| 21:29 | Axe ye ech of `the weie goeris; and ye schulen knowe, that he vndurstondith these same thingis, |
| 21:30 | that an yuel man schal be kept in to the dai of perdicioun, and schal be led to the dai of woodnesse. |
| 21:31 | Who schal repreue hise weies bifor hym? and who schal yelde to hym tho thingis, whiche he hath doon? |
| 21:32 | He schal be led to the sepulcris; and he schal wake in the heep of deed men. |
| 21:33 | He was swete to the `stoonys, ether filthis, of helle; and drawith ech man aftir hym, and vnnoumbrable men bifor him. |
| 21:34 | Hou therfor coumforten ye me in veyn, sithen youre answeris ben schewid to `repugne to treuthe? |
