Job - Chapter: 22

>
22:1So Eliphas the Themanite gaue answere, and sayde:
22:2Maye a man be profitable vnto God, as he that is wyse maye be profytable to hym selfe?
22:3Is it any vauntage to the Allmyghtye that thou art ryghteous? Or shall it profyte hym, that thou makest thy wayes perfect?
22:4Is he afrayed to reproue the, and to steppe forth with the into iudgment?
22:5Is not thy wickednesse greate, and thyne vngracious dedes innumerable?
22:6For thou hast taken the pledge from thy brother for naught, and robbed the naked of their clothinge:
22:7To soche as were weery hast thou geuen no water to drincke, & hast withdrawen bred from the hungrye:
22:8Shulde soch one then as vseth violence, wrong & oppression (doing all thinge of parcialite, and hauinge respecte of personnes) dwell in the lande?
22:9Thou hast sent wyddowes awaye emptie and oppressed the poore fatherlesse.
22:10Therfore art thou compassed aboute with snares on euery syde, and sodenly vexed with feare.
22:11Shuldest thou then se no darckenesse? Shulde not the water floude runne ouer the?
22:12Now because that God is hyer then the heauens, and because thou seyst that the starres are so hye,
22:13wilt thou therfore saye: Tushe, how shulde God knowe? Doth his dominyon reache beyonde the cloudes?
22:14Tush, the cloudes couer him that he maye not se, & he dwelleth aboue heauen.
22:15Dost not thou kepe the olde waye, that vayne men haue gone?
22:16Which were cut downe out of tyme, and whose foundacyon was as a runnynge water,
22:17which sayed vnto God: go from vs, and what dyd the Allmyghtye with them?
22:18He fylled theyr houses with good thinges. But the councell of the vngodly is farre fro me.
22:19The ryghteous sawe it and were glad, and the innocent laughed them to scorne.
22:20Is oure increase hewen downe? As for the remnaunt of them, the fyre hath consumed it.
22:21Therfore reconcile the vnto God, and be content, so shall all thinges prospere with the ryght well.
22:22Receaue the lawe at his mouth, and laye vp his wordes in thyne herte.
22:23For yf thou wilt turne to the Almightye, thou shall stande fast, and put all vnrighteousnesse from thy dwellynge:
22:24Thou shall make golde as plentifull as the dust, and the golde of Ophir as the flyntes of the ryuers.
22:25Yee, Almightye God hys awne selfe shalbe thy defence, and thou shalt haue plentye of syluer.
22:26Then shalt thou haue thy delite in the Almightie, & lyft vp thy face vnto God.
22:27Then shalt thou make thy prayer vnto him, and he shall heare the, and thou shalt kepe thy promyses.
22:28Then, loke what thou takest in hand, he shall make it to prospere with the, and the lyght shall shyne in the wayes.
22:29For who so humbleth hym selfe, him shall be set vp: and who so loketh mekely, shalbe healed.
22:30If thou be innocent thou shalt deliuer the countre because of the vngyltynesse of thyne handes.

22:1Forsothe Eliphat Themanytes answeride, and seide,
22:2Whether a man, yhe, whanne he is of perfit kunnyng, mai be comparisound to God?
22:3What profitith it to God, if thou art iust? ethir what schalt thou yyue to hym, if thi lijf is without wem?
22:4Whether he schal drede, and schal repreue thee, and schal come with thee in to doom,
22:5and not for thi ful myche malice, and thi wickidnessis with out noumbre, `these peynes bifelden iustli to thee?
22:6For thou hast take awei with out cause the wed of thi britheren; and hast spuylid nakid men of clothis.
22:7Thou yauest not watir to the feynt man; and thou withdrowist breed fro the hungri man.
22:8In the strengthe of thin arm thou haddist the lond in possessioun; and thou moost myyti heldist it.
22:9Thou leftist widewis voide; and al to-brakist the schuldris of fadirles children.
22:10Therfor thou art cumpassid with snaris; and sodeyn drede disturblith thee.
22:11And thou gessidist, that thou schuldist not se derknessis; and that thou schuldist not be oppressid with the fersnesse of watris flowyng.
22:12Whether thou thenkist, that God is hiyere than heuene, and is enhaunsid aboue the coppe of sterris?
22:13And thou seist, What sotheli knowith God? and, He demeth as bi derknesse.
22:14A cloude is his hidyng place, and he biholdith not oure thingis, and he `goith aboute the herris of heuene.
22:15Whether thou coueitist to kepe the path of worldis, which wickid men han ofte go?
22:16Whiche weren takun awei bifor her tyme, and the flood distriede the foundement of hem.
22:17Whiche seiden to God, Go thou awei fro vs; and as if Almyyti God may do no thing, thei gessiden hym,
22:18whanne he hadde fillid her housis with goodis; the sentence of whiche men be fer fro me.
22:19Iust men schulen se, and schulen be glad; and an innocent man schal scorne hem.
22:20Whether the reisyng of hem is not kit doun, and fier schal deuoure the relifs of hem?
22:21Therfor assente thou to God, and haue thou pees; and bi these thingis thou schalt haue best fruytis.
22:22Take thou the lawe of his mouth, and sette thou hise wordis in thin herte.
22:23If thou turnest ayen to Almyyti God, thou schalt be bildid; and thou schalt make wickidnesse fer fro thi tabernacle.
22:24He schal yyue a flynt for erthe, and goldun strondis for a flynt.
22:25And Almyyti God schal be ayens thin enemyes; and siluer schal be gaderid togidere to thee.
22:26Thanne on Almyyti God thou schalt flowe with delicis; and thou schalt reise thi face to God.
22:27Thou schalt preye hym, and he schal here thee; and thou schalt yelde thi vowis.
22:28Thou schalt deme a thing, and it schal come to thee; and lyyt schal schyne in thi weies.
22:29For he that is mekid, schal be in glorie; and he that bowith doun hise iyen, schal be saued.
22:30An innocent schal be saued; sotheli he schal be saued in the clennesse of hise hondis.

22:1So Eliphas the Themanite gaue answere, & sayde:
22:2Maye a man be copared vnto God in wy?dome, though he seme to himself, for to be like him?
22:3What pleasure hath God in yt thou art rightuous? Or what doth it profite him, yt thy waies are perfecte?
22:4Is he afrayed to reproue the, & to steppe forth wt the in to iudgment?
22:5Cometh not this for ye greate wickednesse, & for thine vngracious dedes which are innumerable?
22:6Thou hast take the pledge from thy brethre for naught, & robbed the naked of their clothinge:
22:7To soch as were weery, hast thou geue no water to drynke, thou hast withdrawe bred fro the hungrie:
22:8Shulde soch one the as vseth violece, wroge & oppression (doinge all thinges of parcialyte, & hauynge respecte of personnes) dwell in the lode?
22:9Thou hast sent wyddowes awaye emptie and oppressed the poore fatherlesse.
22:10Therfore art thou compased aboute with snares on euery syde, & sodely vexed wt feare.
22:11Shuldest thou the se no darcknesse? Shulde not the water floude runne ouer the?
22:12Now because yt God is hyer the the heauens, & because thou seist yt the starres are so hye,
22:13wilt thou therfore saye: Tush, how shulde God knowe? Doth his dominion reach beyonde the cloudes?
22:14Tush, the cloudes couer him, yt he maye not se, for he dwelleth in heauen.
22:15Well, thou wilt kepe the olde waye, yt all wicked me haue gone:
22:16both olde & yonge, whose foundacion is a runnynge water,
22:17which saye vnto God: go from vs, and after this maner: Tush, what wil the Allmightie do vnto vs?
22:18where as he (not with stodinge) fylleth their houses wt all good. Which meanynge of the vngodly be farre fro me.
22:19For wt ioy shal the godly, and with gladnesse shal the innocent se,
22:20that their increase shal be hewen downe, & their posterite consumed with the fyre.
22:21Therfore recocile the vnto God, & be content, so shal all thinges prospere wt the right well.
22:22Receaue the lawe at his mouth, & laye vp his wordes in thine herte.
22:23For yf thou wilt turne to the Allmightie, thou shalt stonde fast, & all vnrightuousnesse shall be farre from thy dwellinge:
22:24He shal geue the an haruest, which in plenty & abundaunce shall exceade the dust of the earth, and the golde of Ophir like ryuer stones.
22:25Yee the Allmightie his owne self shalbe thine haruest, & the heape of thy money.
22:26Then shalt thou haue thy delyte in the Allmightie, & lift vp thy face vnto God.
22:27The shalt thou make thy prayer vnto him, & he shal heare the, & thou shalt kepe thy promyses.
22:28The, loke what thou takest in honde, he shal make it to prospere with the, and the light shall shyne in thy wayes.
22:29For who so humbleth himself, him shal he set vp: and who so loketh mekely, shalbe healed.
22:30Yf thou be innocet, he shal saue the: and thorow the vngiltynesse of thyne handes shalt thou be delyuered.
