Job - Chapter: 33

>
33:1Wherfore, heare my wordes (O Iob) and herken vnto me all that I will saye:
33:2Beholde, I haue now opened my mouth, my tonge hath spoken in my throte.
33:3My hert doth ordre my wordes a ryght, and my lyppes talke of pure wysdome.
33:4The spryte of God hath made me, and the breth of the Almyghtye hath geuen me my lyfe.
33:5If thou canst, then geue me answere: prepare thy selfe to stande before me face to face,
33:6Beholde, before God am I euen as thou, for I am fashyoned and made euen of the same mould.
33:7Therfore, thou nedest not to be afrayed of me, nether nedest thou to feare, that my auctoryte shalbe to heuy for the.
33:8Now hast thou spoken in myne eares, and I haue herde the voyce of thy wordes:
33:9I am cleane wythout any faute, I am innocent, and there is no wyckednes in me.
33:10But lo, he hath picked a quarell agaynst me, and taketh me for hys enemy:
33:11he hath put my fote in the stockes, and loketh narowly vnto all my pathes.
33:12Beholde, in thys hast thou not done ryght. I wyll make answere vnto the, that God is more then man.
33:13And why doest thou then stryue agaynst him: for he shall not geue the accomptes of all hys wordes.
33:14For when God doth once commaunde a thynge, there shulde no man be curyous, to searche whether it be ryght.
33:15In dreames and visyons of the nyght (when slombring commeth vpon men, that they fall a slepe in their beddes)
33:16he roundeth them in the eares, he infourmeth them, and sheweth them playnely,
33:17that it is he, whych withdraweth man from euyll, delyuereth hym from pryde,
33:18kepeth hym from the graue, and hys lyfe from the swearde.
33:19He chasteneth hym wyth sycknesse, and bryngeth hym to his bed: he layeth sore punyshement vpon hys bones,
33:20so that hys lyfe maye awaye wyth no bred, and his soule abhorreth to eat any dayntie meat:
33:21In so moch that hys body is cleane consumed awaye, and his bones appeare no more.
33:22Hys lyfe draweth on to the graue, and hys lyfe to death.
33:23Now, yf there be a messenger (one amonge a thousande) sent for to speake vnto man, and to shewe him the ryght waye:
33:24then the Lorde is mercyfull vnto hym, and sayeth: He shalbe delyuered, that he fall not downe to the graue, for I am sufficiently reconcyled.
33:25Than shall hys flesh be as well lykyng as it was afore, and shalbe as it was in hys youth.
33:26For yf he submytte hym selfe vnto God, he shalbe gracious vnto him, and shewe him his countenaunce ioyfully, & rewardeth man for his ryghteousnes.
33:27Soch a respecte hath he vnto men. Therfore, let a man confesse (and saye) I haue offended: I dyd vnryghteously, and it hath done me no good.
33:28Yee, he hath delyuered my soule from destruccyon, and my lyfe shall se the lyght.
33:29Lo, thus worcketh God allwaye with man,
33:30that he kepeth hys soule from perishing, and letteth hym enioye the lyght of the lyuynge.
33:31Marcke well (O Iob) and heare me: holde the styll, and I will speake.
33:32But yf thou hast any thynge to saye, then answere me, and speake, for thy answere pleaseth me.
33:33If thou hast nothinge, then heare me, and holde thy tonge, so shall I teach the wisdome.

33:1Therfor, Joob, here thou my spechis, and herkene alle my wordis.
33:2Lo! Y haue openyd my mouth, my tunge schal speke in my chekis.
33:3Of symple herte ben my wordis, and my lippis schulen speke clene sentence.
33:4The spirit of God made me, and the brething of Almyyti God quykenyde me.
33:5If thou maist, answere thou to me, and stoonde thou ayens my face.
33:6Lo! God made me as and thee; and also Y am formyd of the same cley.
33:7Netheles my myracle make thee not afeerd, and myn eloquence be not greuouse to thee.
33:8Therfor thou seidist in myn eeris, and Y herde the vois of thi wordis;
33:9Y am cleene, and with out gilt, and vnwemmed, and wickidnesse is not in me.
33:10`For God foond querels in me, therfor he demyde me enemy to hym silf.
33:11He hath set my feet in a stok; he kepte alle my pathis.
33:12Therfor this thing it is, in which thou art not maad iust; Y schal answere to thee, that God is more than man.
33:13Thou stryuest ayenus God, that not at alle wordis he answeride to thee.
33:14God spekith onys, and the secounde tyme he rehersith not the same thing.
33:15God spekith bi a dreem in the visioun of nyyt, whanne sleep fallith on men, and thei slepen in the bed.
33:16Thanne he openith the eeris of men, and he techith hem, `and techith prudence;
33:17that he turne awei a man fro these thingis whiche he made, and delyuere hym fro pride; delyuerynge his soule fro corrupcioun,
33:18and his lijf, that it go not in to swerd.
33:19Also God blameth a synnere bi sorewe in the bed, and makith alle the boonys of hym `to fade.
33:20Breed is maad abhomynable to hym in his lijf, and mete desirable `bifor to his soule.
33:21His fleisch schal faile for rot, and hise boonys, that weren hilid, schulen be maad nakid.
33:22His soule schal neiye to corrupcioun, and his lijf to thingis `bryngynge deeth.
33:23If an aungel, oon of a thousynde, is spekynge for hym, that he telle the equyte of man, God schal haue mercy on hym,
33:24and schal seie, Delyuere thou hym, that he go not doun in to corrupcioun; Y haue founde in what thing Y schal do merci to hym.
33:25His fleisch is wastid of turmentis; turne he ayen to the daies of his yonge wexynge age.
33:26He schal biseche God, and he schal be quemeful to hym; and he schal se his face in hertly ioye, and he schal yelde to man his riytfulnesse.
33:27He schal biholde men, and he schal seie, Y haue synned, and verili Y haue trespassid; and Y haue not resseyued, as Y was worthi.
33:28For he delyueride his soule, that it schulde not go in to perischyng, but that he lyuynge schulde se liyt.
33:29Lo! God worchith alle these thingis in thre tymes bi alle men;
33:30that he ayen clepe her soulis fro corrupcioun, and liytne in the liyt of lyuynge men.
33:31Thou, Joob, perseyue, and here me, and be thou stille, the while Y speke.
33:32Sotheli if thou hast what thou schalt speke, answere thou to me, speke thou; for Y wole, that thou appere iust.
33:33That if thou hast not, here thou me; be thou stille, and Y schal teche thee wisdom.

33:1Wherfore, heare my wordes (O Iob) & herken vnto all, that I wyll saye:
33:2Beholde, I wil open my mouth, & my tonge shal speake out of my chawes.
33:3My hert shall ordre my wordes a right, & my lyppes shal talke of pure wy?dome.
33:4The sprete of God hath made me, & the breth of the Allmightie hath geue me my life.
33:5Yf thou cast, then geue me answere: prepare thy self to stode before me face to face.
33:6Beholde, before God am I euen as thou, for I am fashioned and made eue of the same moulde.
33:7Therfore, thou nedest not be afrayed of me, nether nedest thou to feare, that my auctorite shal be to heuy for the.
33:8Now hast thou spoken in myne eares, & I haue herde ye voyce of thy wordes:
33:9I am clene without eny fawte, I am innocent, & there is no wickednesse in me.
33:10But lo, he hath pyked a quarell agaynst me, & taketh me for his enemy:
33:11he hath put my fote in the stockes, & loketh narowly vnto all my pathes.
33:12Beholde, vnto these vnreasonable wordes of thyne wil I make answere. Shulde God be reproued of man?
33:13Why doest thou then stryue agaynst him, because he geueth the no accomptes of all his doinges?
33:14For whe God doth once commaunde a thinge, there shulde no man be curious, to search whether it be right.
33:15In dreames and visions of the night season (when slombrynge cometh vpo me, that they fall a slepe in their beddes)
33:16he rowneth them in the eares, he infourmeth them, & sheweth the planely,
33:17that it is he, which withdraweth man from euell, delyuereth him from pryde,
33:18kepeth his soule from destruccion, & his life from ye swearde.
33:19he chasteneth him with sicknesse, & bringeth him to his bed: he laieth sore punyshmet vpo his bones,
33:20so that his life maye awaye wt no bred, & his soule abhorreth to eate eny dayntie meate:
33:21In so moch, that his body is clene consumed awaye, & his bones appeare nomore.
33:22His soule draweth on to destruccion, & his life to death.
33:23Now yf there be an angel (one amonge a thousande) sent for to speake vnto ma, and to shewe him the right waye:
33:24the the LORDE is mercifull vnto him, & sayeth: He shalbe delyuered, yt he fall not downe to destruccion, for I am sufficiently recociled.
33:25Than his flesh (which hath bene in misery & trouble) shalbe, as it was in his youth.
33:26For yf he submitte himself vnto God, he is gracious, & sheweth him his countenaunce ioyfully, & rewardeth man for his rightuousnes.
33:27Soch a respecte hath he vnto me. Therfore let a man cofesse, (& saye:) I offended, but he hath chastened & refourmed me: I dyd vnrightuously, neuerthelesse he hath not recopensed me therafter.
33:28Yee he hath delyuered my soule from destruccion, & my life, that it seyth ye light.
33:29Lo, thus worketh God allwaie with ma,
33:30that he kepeth his soule from perishinge, & latteth him enioye the light of ye lyuinge.
33:31Marke well (O Iob) & heare me: holde the still, vntill I haue spoken.
33:32But yf thou hast eny thinge to saye, then answere me and speake, for thy answere pleaseth me.
33:33Yf thou hast nothinge, then heare me, and holde thy tonge, so shal I teach the wy?dome.
