Psalms - Chapter: 73

>
73:1[A Psalme of Asaph.] Truely God is good to Israel, euen to such as are of a cleane heart.
73:2But as for mee, my feete were almost gone: my steps had well-nigh slipt.
73:3For I was enuious at the foolish, when I sawe the prosperity of the wicked.
73:4For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firme.
73:5They are not in trouble as other men: neither are they plagued like other men.
73:6Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chaine: violence couereth them as a garment.
73:7Their eies stand out with fatnes: they haue more then heart could wish.
73:8They are corrupt, and speake wickedly concerning oppression: they speake loftily.
73:9They set their mouth against the heauens; and their tongue walketh through the earth.
73:10Therefore his people returne hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
73:11And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
73:12Behold, these are the vngodly: who prosper in the world, they increase in riches.
73:13Uerily I haue cleansed my heart in vaine, and washed my hands in innocencie.
73:14For all the day long haue I bene plagued, and chastened euery morning.
73:15If I say, I will speake thus: behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
73:16When I thought to know this, it was too painfull for me,
73:17Untill I went into the Sanctuarie of God; then vnderstood I their end.
73:18Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them downe into destruction.
73:19How are they brought into desolation as in a moment? they are vtterly consumed with terrours.
73:20As a dreame when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest thou shalt despise their image.
73:21Thus my heart was greeued, and I was pricked in my reines.
73:22So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
73:23Neuerthelesse I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
73:24Thou shalt guide me with thy counsell; and afterward receiue me to glory.
73:25Whom haue I in heauen but thee? and there is none vpon earth that I desire besides thee.
73:26My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for euer.
73:27For loe, they that are farre from thee, shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that goe a whoring from thee.
73:28But it is good for me, to drawe neere to God: I haue put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy workes.

73:1A Psalme committed to Asaph. Yet God is good to Israel: euen, to the pure in heart.
73:2As for me, my feete were almost gone: my steps had well neere slipt.
73:3For I feared at the foolish, when I sawe the prosperitie of the wicked.
73:4For there are no bandes in their death, but they are lustie and strong.
73:5They are not in trouble as other men, neither are they plagued with other men.
73:6Therefore pride is as a chayne vnto them, and crueltie couereth them as a garment.
73:7Their eyes stande out for fatnesse: they haue more then heart can wish.
73:8They are licentious, and speake wickedly of their oppression: they talke presumptuously.
73:9They set their mouth against heauen, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
73:10Therefore his people turne hither: for waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
73:11And they say, Howe doeth God know it? or is there knowledge in the most High?
73:12Lo, these are the wicked, yet prosper they alway, and increase in riches.
73:13Certainely I haue clensed mine heart in vaine, and washed mine hands in innocencie.
73:14For dayly haue I bene punished, and chastened euery morning.
73:15If I say, I will iudge thus, beholde the generation of thy children: I haue trespassed.
73:16Then thought I to know this, but it was too painefull for me,
73:17Vntill I went into the Sanctuarie of God: then vnderstoode I their ende.
73:18Surely thou hast set them in slipperie places, and castest them downe into desolation.
73:19How suddenly are they destroyed, perished and horribly consumed,
73:20As a dreame when one awaketh! O Lord, when thou raisest vs vp, thou shalt make their image despised.
73:21Certainely mine heart was vexed, and I was pricked in my reines:
73:22So foolish was I and ignorant: I was a beast before thee.
73:23Yet I was alway with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
73:24Thou wilt guide me by thy counsell, and afterward receiue me to glory.
73:25Whom haue I in heauen but thee? and I haue desired none in the earth with thee.
73:26My flesh fayleth and mine heart also: but God is the strength of mine heart, and my portion for euer.
73:27For loe, they that withdrawe themselues from thee, shall perish: thou destroyest all them that goe a whoring from thee.
73:28As for me, it is good for me to draw neere to God: therefore I haue put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy workes.

73:1A Psalme of Asaph. Truly God is louing vnto Israel: euen vnto soch as are of a cleane hert?
73:2Neuerthelesse, my fete were almost gone, my treadinges had well nye slypte.
73:3And why I was greued at the wicked, I do se also the vngodly in soch prosperite.
73:4For they are in no parell of death, but are lusty and strong.
73:5They come in no misfortune like other folke, nether are they plaged like other men.
73:6And this is the cause the they be so holden with pride, and ouerwhelmed with cruelte.
73:7Their eyes swell for fatnesse, and they do euen what they lyst.
73:8They corrupte other, & speake of wicked blasphemye: theyr talkynge is agaynst the most hiest.
73:9For they stretch forth theyr mouth vnto the heauen, & theyr tonge goeth thorow the world.
73:10Therfore fall the people vnto them, and there out sucke they no small aduauntage.
73:11Tush (saye they) how shuld God perceaue it? is there knowlege in the moost hyest?
73:12Lo, these are the vngodly, these prospere in the worlde, and these haue ryches in possessyon
73:13Then haue I clensed my herte in vayne and washed my handes in innocency?
73:14All the daye long haue I bene punished, and chastened euery mornynge.
73:15Yee, and I had almost sayde euen as they: but lo, then shuld I haue condemned the generacyon of thy chyldren.
73:16Then thought I to vnderstand this, but it was to harde for me.
73:17Untill I wente into the Sanctuary of God, then vnderderstode I the ende of these men.
73:18Namely, how thou dost sett them in slyppery places, and castest them downe and destroyest them.
73:19O how sodenly do they consume, perysh, and come to a fearfull ende?
73:20Yee, euen like as a dreame when one a waketh, so shalt thou make theyr ymage to vanysh out of the cyte.
73:21Thus my hert was greued, and it wente euen thorow my reynes.
73:22So folysh was I and ignoraunt, euen as it were a beast before the.
73:23Neuerthelesse, I am all waye by the, for thou hast holden me by my right hande.
73:24Thou shalt gyde me with thy councell, and afterwarde receaue me with glory.
73:25Whom haue I in heauen but the? And there is none vpon earth, that I desyre in comparyson of the.
73:26My fleashe and my hert fayleth, but God is the strength of my hert, and my porcyon for euer.
73:27For lo, they that forsake the shall perysh: thou hast destroyed all them that commytte fornicacyon agaynst the.
73:28But it is good for me, to holde me fast by God, to put my trust in the Lorde God, and to speake of all thy workes.
