Proverbs - Chapter: 1

>
1:1The Prouerbes of Solomon the sonne of Dauid, King of Israel,
1:2To knowe wisedome and instruction, to perceiue the words of vnderstanding,
1:3To receiue the instruction of wisdome, iustice, and iudgement & equitie,
1:4To giue subtiltie to the simple, to the yong man knowledge and discretion.
1:5A wise man wil heare, and wil increase learning: and a man of vnderstanding shall attaine vnto wise counsels:
1:6To vnderstand a prouerbe, and the interpretation; the wordes of the wise, and their darke sayings.
1:7The feare of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles despise wisedome and instruction.
1:8My sonne, heare the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
1:9For they shall be an ornament of grace vnto thy head, and chaines about thy necke.
1:10My sonne, if sinners entise thee, consent thou not.
1:11If they say, Come with vs, let vs lay wait for blood, let vs lurke priuily for the innocent without cause:
1:12Let vs swallow them vp aliue, as the graue, and whole, as those that goe downe into the pit:
1:13Wee shall finde all precious substance, wee shall fill our houses with spoile:
1:14Cast in thy lot among vs, let vs all haue one purse:
1:15My sonne, walke not thou in the way with them; refraine thy foot from their path:
1:16For their feete runne to euil, and make haste to shed blood.
1:17Surely in vaine the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
1:18And they lay wait for their owne blood, they lurke priuily for their owne liues.
1:19So are the waies of euery one that is greedie of gaine: which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
1:20Wisedome crieth without, she vttereth her voice in the streets:
1:21Shee crieth in the chiefe place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she vttereth her words, saying,
1:22How long, ye simple ones, will ye loue simplicitie? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fooles hate knowledge?
1:23Turne you at my reproofe: behold, I will powre out my spirit vnto you, I will make knowen my wordes vnto you.
1:24Because I haue called, and yee refused, I haue stretched out my hand, and no man regarded:
1:25But ye haue set at nought all my counsell, & would none of my reproofe:
1:26I also will laugh at your calamitie, I wil mocke when your feare commeth.
1:27When your feare commeth as desolation, and your destruction commeth as a whirlewinde; when distresse and anguish commeth vpon you:
1:28Then shall they call vpon mee, but I will not answere; they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me:
1:29For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the feare of the Lord.
1:30They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproofe.
1:31Therefore shall they eate of the fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuices.
1:32For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fooles shall destroy them.
1:33But who so hearkneth vnto mee, shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from feare of euill.

1:1The Parables of Salomon the sonne of Dauid King of Israel,
1:2To knowe wisdome, and instruction, to vnderstand ye wordes of knowledge,
1:3To receiue instruction to do wisely, by iustice and iudgement and equitie,
1:4To giue vnto the simple, sharpenesse of wit, and to the childe knowledge and discretion.
1:5A wise man shall heare and increase in learning, and a man of vnderstanding shall attayne vnto wise counsels,
1:6To vnderstand a parable, and the interpretation, the wordes of ye wise, and their darke sayings.
1:7The feare of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles despise wisedome and instruction.
1:8My sonne, heare thy fathers instruction, and forsake not thy mothers teaching.
1:9For they shalbe a comely ornament vnto thine head, and as chaines for thy necke.
1:10My sonne, if sinners doe intise thee, consent thou not.
1:11If they say, Come with vs, we will lay waite for blood, and lie priuilie for the innocent without a cause:
1:12We wil swallow them vp aliue like a graue euen whole, as those that goe downe into the pit:
1:13We shall finde all precious riches, and fill our houses with spoyle:
1:14Cast in thy lot among vs: we will all haue one purse:
1:15My sonne, walke not thou in the way with them: refraine thy foote from their path.
1:16For their feete runne to euill, and make haste to shed blood.
1:17Certainely as without cause the net is spred before the eyes of all that hath wing:
1:18So they lay waite for blood and lie priuily for their liues.
1:19Such are the wayes of euery one that is greedy of gaine: he would take away the life of the owners thereof.
1:20Wisdome cryeth without: she vttereth her voyce in the streetes.
1:21She calleth in the hye streete, among the prease in the entrings of the gates, and vttereth her wordes in the citie, saying,
1:22O ye foolish, howe long will ye loue foolishnes? and the scornefull take their pleasure in scorning, and the fooles hate knowledge?
1:23(Turne you at my correction: loe, I will powre out my mind vnto you, and make you vnderstand my wordes)
1:24Because I haue called, and ye refused: I haue stretched out mine hand, and none woulde regarde.
1:25But ye haue despised all my counsell, and would none of my correction.
1:26I will also laugh at your destruction, and mocke, when your feare commeth.
1:27Whe your feare cometh like sudden desolation, and your destruction shall come like a whirle wind: whe affliction and anguish shall come vpon you,
1:28Then shall they call vpon me, but I will not answere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me,
1:29Because they hated knowledge, and did not chuse the feare of the Lord.
1:30They would none of my counsell, but despised all my correction.
1:31Therefore shall they eate of ye fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuises.
1:32For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.
1:33But he that obeyeth me, shall dwell safely, and be quiet from feare of euill.

1:1The prouerbes of Salomon, the sonne of Dauid kynge of Israel:
1:2to learne wisdome, & to perceaue the instruccyon, and to perceaue the wordes of vnderstondynge: & therby to receaue prudence,
1:3ryghteousnes, iudgement and equite.
1:4That the very simple myght haue wyt, and that the yonge men myght haue knowledge and true vnderstanding.
1:5By hearing the wise man shall come by more wysedome: and he that is endewed wt vnderstanding
1:6shal optayn wit to perceaue a parable, & the interpretacyon therof, the wordes of the wyse, & the darcke speaches of the same.
1:7The feare of the Lorde is the begynnyng of wysdome. But fooles despyse wysdome & instruccion.
1:8My sonne, heare thy fathers doctrine: & forsake not the lawe of thy mother:
1:9for that shall bringe grace vnto thy heed, and shalbe as a cheyne about thy neck.
1:10My sonne, consente not vnto synners,
1:11yf they entise the, & saye: come with vs, we will laye wayte for bloude, & lurcke preuely for the innocent without a cause:
1:12we shall swalowe then vp lyke the hell, & deuoure them quycke and hole, as those that go downe into the pyt.
1:13So shall we fynde all maner of costelye ryches, & fill our houses wt spoyles.
1:14Cast in thy lot among vs: & let vs haue all one purse.
1:15My sonne, walke not thou with them: refrayne thy fote from their waye.
1:16For their fete runne to euell: & are hasty to shed bloud.
1:17But in vayn is the net laied forth before the byrdes eyes:
1:18yee they them selues laye wayte one for anothers bloud & one of them wold sleye another.
1:19These are the wayes of all soch as be couetous, the one wold rauysh anothers lyfe.
1:20Wisdome cryeth wtout, & putteth forth her voyce in the stretes.
1:21She calleth before the congregacyon in the open gates, & sheweth her wordes thorow the citye, saying:
1:22O ye children, how longe wyll ye loue childesshnes? how longe wyll the scorners delyte in scorning, & the vnwyse be enemyes vnto knowledge?
1:23O turne you vnto my correccion: lo, I wyll expresse my mynde vnto you, & make you vnderstande my wordes.
1:24I haue called, & ye refused it: I haue stretched out my hande: & no man regarded it:
1:25but all my councels haue ye despised: & set my correccion at naught.
1:26Therfore shall I also laugh in youre destruccion, & mocke you, when that thinge that ye feare commeth vpon you:
1:27euen when the thynge that ye be afrayed of, falleth in sodenly lyke a storme, & your misery lyke a tempest: yee, when trouble & heuines commeth vpon you.
1:28Then shal they call vpon me, but I wyll not heare: they shall seke me early, but they shall not fynde me.
1:29And that because they hated knowledge, & receaued not the feare of the Lorde:
1:30but abhorred my councell, and despysed all my correccion.
1:31Therfore shall they eate the frutes of theyr awne waye, & be filled with their awne inuencions:
1:32for the turnynge awaye of the vnwyse shall sleye them, and the prosperytie of fooles shalbe their awne destruccyon.
1:33But whoso harkneth vnto me, shall dwell safely, and be sure from any feare of euyll.
