Exodus - Chapter: 23


23:1	Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
23:2	Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:
23:3	Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.
23:4	If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.
23:5	If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.
23:6	Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.
23:7	Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.
23:8	And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.
23:9	Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
23:10	And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof:
23:11	But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.
23:12	Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.
23:13	And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
23:14	Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year.
23:15	Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)
23:16	And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field.
23:17	Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the Lord GOD.
23:18	Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.
23:19	The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
23:20	Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
23:21	Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.
23:22	But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.
23:23	For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.
23:24	Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.
23:25	And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
23:26	There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.
23:27	I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.
23:28	And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee.
23:29	I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.
23:30	By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.
23:31	And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee.
23:32	Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
23:33	They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.


23:1	לא תשׂא שׁמע שׁוא אל תשׁת ידך עם רשׁע להית עד חמס׃
23:2	לא תהיה אחרי רבים לרעת ולא תענה על רב לנטת אחרי רבים להטת׃
23:3	ודל לא תהדר בריבו׃
23:4	כי תפגע שׁור איבך או חמרו תעה השׁב תשׁיבנו׃
23:5	כי תראה חמור שׂנאך רבץ תחת משׂאו וחדלת מעזב לו עזב תעזב עמו׃
23:6	לא תטה משׁפט אבינך בריבו׃
23:7	מדבר שׁקר תרחק ונקי וצדיק אל תהרג כי לא אצדיק רשׁע׃
23:8	ושׁחד לא תקח כי השׁחד יעור פקחים ויסלף דברי צדיקים׃
23:9	וגר לא תלחץ ואתם ידעתם את נפשׁ הגר כי גרים הייתם בארץ מצרים׃
23:10	ושׁשׁ שׁנים תזרע את ארצך ואספת את תבואתה׃
23:11	והשׁביעת תשׁמטנה ונטשׁתה ואכלו אביני עמך ויתרם תאכל חית השׂדה כן תעשׂה לכרמך לזיתך׃
23:12	שׁשׁת ימים תעשׂה מעשׂיך וביום השׁביעי תשׁבת למען ינוח שׁורך וחמרך וינפשׁ בן אמתך והגר׃
23:13	ובכל אשׁר אמרתי אליכם תשׁמרו ושׁם אלהים אחרים לא תזכירו לא ישׁמע על פיך׃
23:14	שׁלשׁ רגלים תחג לי בשׁנה׃
23:15	את חג המצות תשׁמר שׁבעת ימים תאכל מצות כאשׁר צויתך למועד חדשׁ האביב כי בו יצאת ממצרים ולא יראו פני ריקם׃
23:16	וחג הקציר בכורי מעשׂיך אשׁר תזרע בשׂדה וחג האסף בצאת השׁנה באספך את מעשׂיך מן השׂדה׃
23:17	שׁלשׁ פעמים בשׁנה יראה כל זכורך אל פני האדן יהוה׃
23:18	לא תזבח על חמץ דם זבחי ולא ילין חלב חגי עד בקר׃
23:19	ראשׁית בכורי אדמתך תביא בית יהוה אלהיך לא תבשׁל גדי בחלב אמו׃
23:20	הנה אנכי שׁלח מלאך לפניך לשׁמרך בדרך ולהביאך אל המקום אשׁר הכנתי׃
23:21	השׁמר מפניו ושׁמע בקלו אל תמר בו כי לא ישׂא לפשׁעכם כי שׁמי בקרבו׃
23:22	כי אם שׁמוע תשׁמע בקלו ועשׂית כל אשׁר אדבר ואיבתי את איביך וצרתי את צרריך׃
23:23	כי ילך מלאכי לפניך והביאך אל האמרי והחתי והפרזי והכנעני החוי והיבוסי והכחדתיו׃
23:24	לא תשׁתחוה לאלהיהם ולא תעבדם ולא תעשׂה כמעשׂיהם כי הרס תהרסם ושׁבר תשׁבר מצבתיהם׃
23:25	ועבדתם את יהוה אלהיכם וברך את לחמך ואת מימיך והסרתי מחלה מקרבך׃
23:26	לא תהיה משׁכלה ועקרה בארצך את מספר ימיך אמלא׃
23:27	את אימתי אשׁלח לפניך והמתי את כל העם אשׁר תבא בהם ונתתי את כל איביך אליך ערף׃
23:28	ושׁלחתי את הצרעה לפניך וגרשׁה את החוי את הכנעני ואת החתי מלפניך׃
23:29	לא אגרשׁנו מפניך בשׁנה אחת פן תהיה הארץ שׁממה ורבה עליך חית השׂדה׃
23:30	מעט מעט אגרשׁנו מפניך עד אשׁר תפרה ונחלת את הארץ׃
23:31	ושׁתי את גבלך מים סוף ועד ים פלשׁתים וממדבר עד הנהר כי אתן בידכם את ישׁבי הארץ וגרשׁתמו מפניך׃
23:32	לא תכרת להם ולאלהיהם ברית׃
23:33	לא ישׁבו בארצך פן יחטיאו אתך לי כי תעבד את אלהיהם כי יהיה לך למוקשׁ׃


23:1	`Thou dost not lift up a vain report; thou dost not put thy hand with a wicked man to be a violent witness.
23:2	`Thou art not after many to evil, nor dost thou testify concerning a strife, to turn aside after many to cause `others' to turn aside;
23:3	and a poor man thou dost not honour in his strife.
23:4	`When thou meetest thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou dost certainly turn it back to him;
23:5	when thou seest the ass of him who is hating thee crouching under its burden, then thou hast ceased from leaving `it' to it -- thou dost certainly leave `it' with him.
23:6	`Thou dost not turn aside the judgment of thy needy one in his strife;
23:7	from a false matter thou dost keep far off, and an innocent and righteous man thou dost not slay; for I do not justify a wicked man.
23:8	`And a bribe thou dost not take; for the bribe bindeth the open-`eyed', and perverteth the words of the righteous.
23:9	`And a sojourner thou dost not oppress, and ye -- ye have known the soul of the sojourner, for sojourners ye have been in the land of Egypt.
23:10	`And six years thou dost sow thy land, and hast gathered its increase;
23:11	and the seventh thou dost release it, and hast left it, and the needy of thy people have eaten, and their leaving doth the beast of the field eat; so dost thou to thy vineyard -- to thine olive-yard.
23:12	`Six days thou dost do thy work, and on the seventh day thou dost rest, so that thine ox and thine ass doth rest, and the son of thine handmaid and the sojourner is refreshed;
23:13	and in all that which I have said unto you ye do take heed; and the name of other gods ye do not mention; it is not heard on thy mouth.
23:14	`Three times thou dost keep a feast to Me in a year;
23:15	the Feast of Unleavened things thou dost keep; seven days thou dost eat unleavened things, as I have commanded thee, at the time appointed `in' the month of Abib; for in it thou hast come forth out of Egypt, and ye do not appear `in' My presence empty;
23:16	and the Feast of Harvest, the first fruits of thy works which thou sowest in the field; and the Feast of the In-Gathering, in the outgoing of the year, in thy gathering thy works out of the field.
23:17	`Three times in a year do all thy males appear before the face of the Lord Jehovah.
23:18	`Thou dost not sacrifice on a fermented thing the blood of My sacrifice, and the fat of My festival doth not remain till morning;
23:19	the beginning of the first-fruits of thy ground thou dost bring into the house of Jehovah thy God; thou dost not boil a kid in its mother's milk.
23:20	`Lo, I am sending a messenger before thee to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee in unto the place which I have prepared;
23:21	be watchful because of his presence, and hearken to his voice, rebel not against him, for he beareth not with your transgression, for My name `is' in his heart;
23:22	for, if thou diligently hearken to his voice, and hast done all that which I speak, then I have been at enmity with thine enemies, and have distressed those distressing thee.
23:23	`For My messenger goeth before thee, and hath brought thee in unto the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, and I have cut them off.
23:24	`Thou dost not bow thyself to their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their doings, but dost utterly devote them, and thoroughly break their standing pillars.
23:25	`And ye have served Jehovah your God, and He hath blessed thy bread and thy water, and I have turned aside sickness from thine heart;
23:26	there is not a miscarrying and barren one in thy land; the number of thy days I fulfil:
23:27	My terror I send before thee, and I have put to death all the people among whom thou comest, and I have given the neck of all thine enemies unto thee.
23:28	`And I have sent the hornet before thee, and it hath cast out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee;
23:29	I cast them not out from before thee in one year, lest the land be a desolation, and the beast of the field hath multiplied against thee;
23:30	little `by' little I cast them out from before thee, till thou art fruitful, and hast inherited the land.
