24:1 | Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. |
24:2 | And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. |
24:3 | The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word. |
24:4 | The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. |
24:5 | The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. |
24:6 | Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. |
24:7 | The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh. |
24:8 | The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. |
24:9 | They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. |
24:10 | The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. |
24:11 | There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. |
24:12 | In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. |
24:13 | When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. |
24:14 | They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea. |
24:15 | Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. |
24:16 | From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously. |
24:17 | Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. |
24:18 | And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake. |
24:19 | The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. |
24:20 | The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again. |
24:21 | And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. |
24:22 | And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited. |
24:23 | Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously. |

24:3 | The earth shalbe cleane emptied, and vtterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this worde. |
24:4 | The earth lamenteth and fadeth away: the world is feeble and decaied: the proude people of the earth are weakened. |
24:5 | The earth also deceiueth, because of the inhabitantes thereof: for they transgressed the lawes: they changed the ordinances, and brake the euerlasting couenant. |
24:6 | Therefore hath the curse deuoured the earth, and the inhabitantes thereof are desolate. Wherefore the inhabitants of the land are burned vp, and fewe men are left. |
24:7 | The wine faileth, the vine hath no might: all that were of merie heart, doe mourne. |
24:8 | The mirth of tabrets ceaseth: the noyse of them that reioyce, endeth: the ioye of the harpe ceaseth. |
24:9 | They shall not drinke wine with mirth: strong drinke shall be bitter to them that drinke it. |
24:10 | The citie of vanitie is broken downe: euery house is shut vp, that no man may come in. |
24:11 | There is a crying for wine in the streetes: al ioy is darkened: the mirth of the world is gone away. |
24:12 | In the citie is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. |
24:13 | Surely thus shall it bee in the middes of the earth, among the people, as the shaking of an oliue tree, and as the grapes when the vintage is ended. |
24:14 | They shall lift vp their voyce: they shall shout for the magnificence of the Lord: they shall reioyce from the sea. |
24:15 | Wherefore praise yee the Lord in the valleis, euen the Name of the Lord God of Israel, in the yles of the sea. |
24:16 | From the vttermost part of the earth wee haue heard praises, euen glory to the iust, and I sayd, My leanesse, my leanesse, woe is mee: the transgressours haue offended: yea, the transgressours haue grieuously offended. |
24:17 | Feare, and the pitte, and the snare are vpon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. |
24:18 | And hee that fleeth from the noyse of the feare, shall fall into the pit: and he that commeth vp out of the pit, shall be taken in the snare: for the windowes from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth doe shake. |
24:19 | The earth is vtterly broken downe: the earth is cleane dissolued: the earth is mooued exceedingly. |
24:20 | The earth shall reele to and from like a drunken man, and shall be remooued like a tent, and the iniquitie thereof shall be heauie vpon it: so that it shall fall, and rise no more. |
24:21 | And in that day shall the Lord visite the hoste aboue that is on hie, euen the Kinges of the world that are vpon the earth. |
24:22 | And they shall be gathered together, as the prisoners in the pit: and they shall be shut vp in the prison, and after many daies shall they be visited. |
24:23 | Then the moone shall be abashed, and the sunne ashamed, when the Lord of hostes shall reigne in mount Zion and in Ierusalem: and glory shalbe before his ancient men. |
24:1 | Beholde the lord maketh the earth wayst and emptye: he turneth it vp syde downe, & scatreth abrode the inhabitours therof: |
24:2 | And the prest shalbe as the people, & the master as the seruaunt, the mastresse lyke the mayd, the seller lyke the byer: he that lendeth vpon vsury, lyke hym that boroweth vpon vsury: the creditoure as the detter. |
24:3 | The worlde shalbe cleane wasted & vtterly spoyled, for so the lorde hath spoken. |
24:4 | The earth is sory & consumeth awaye, the worlde is feble & perisheth, the proude people of the erth are come to naught |
24:5 | The earth also is become vnprofitable vnder the inhabitours therof, which haue transgressed the lawes, chaunged the ordinaunce, broken the euerlasting couenaunt. |
24:6 | Therfore hath the curse consumed the earth, and they that dwell therin, are fallen into trespace. Wherfore, the inhabitours of the earth are perished with drouth, and fewe men are left behynde. |
24:7 | The wyne faileth: the vyne hath no myght, all they that haue bene mery of hart, are come to mournyng. |
24:8 | The myrth of tabrettes is layed downe, the noyse of such as haue made mery, is ceassed, the ioye at the herpe is at an ende. |
24:9 | They shall drynke nomore wyne wt myrth, strong drynke shalbe bytter to them that drynke it. |
24:10 | The citye of vanite is broken downe, euery house is shut vp, that noman maye come in. |
24:11 | In the stretes is there a cryeng because of wyne, all chere is vanished awaye, the myrth of the worlde is gone, |
24:12 | in the citye is left desolacyon and the gate is smytten with destruccion. |
24:13 | For in the myddes of the worlde, euen amonge the people, it shall come to passe, as at the shakyng of Olyues, and as the grapes are whan the wyne haruest is done. |
24:14 | They shall lyft vp theyr voyce: and make a mery noyse, and in magnifyeng of the Lord shall they crye out of the west. |
24:15 | Wherfore, prayse ye the lord in the valleys, euen the name of the lord God of Israel in the Iles of the see |
24:16 | From the vttemost parte of the earth haue we heard prayses and myrth because of the ryghteous. And I sayd: I knowe a thyng in secrete, I knowe a thyng in secrete, wo is me, the transgressours haue offended, the transgressours haue greuously offended. |
24:17 | Fearfulnesse, the pytt and the snare are vpon the, O thou that dwellest in the earth. |
24:18 | It will come to passe, that whoso escapeth the fearfull noyse, shall fall in to the pytt. And he that commeth vp out of the pytt, shalbe taken wyth the snare. For the wyndowes from an hye are open, and the foundacions of the earth are moued. |
24:19 | The earth is vtterly broken downe, the earth hath a sore ruyne, the earth quaketh exceadyngly. |
24:20 | The earth shall rele to & fro lyke a dronkerd, and shalbe remoued lyke a like a tent & the iniquitie therof shalbe heuy vpon it. It shall fall, & not rise vp agayne. |
24:21 | And in that daye shall the Lord viset the host aboue that is on hye: & the kinges of the world that are vpon the erth. |
24:22 | And they shalbe gathered together, as they that be in preson: & they shalbe shut vp in warde, & after many daies shall they be visited. |
24:23 | The mone shall be abashed, and the sunne ashamed, when the Lorde of hostes shall raygne in mount Sion and in Ierusalem with worshyp, and in the syght of such as shalbe of hys councell. |
