Jeremiah - Chapter: 14

>
14:1The worde of the Lorde shewed vnto Ieremy, concernynge the derth of the frutes.
14:2Iuda hath mourned, his gates are desolate: they are broughte to heuynesse euen vnto the grounde, & the crye of Ierusalem goeth vp.
14:3The lordes sent theyr seruauntes to fetch water, & when they came to the welles, they dyd fynde no water, but caried their vessels home emptie. They be ashamed & confounded, & couer theyr heades.
14:4For the grounde is dryed vp, because there commeth no rayne vpon it. The plowmen also be ashamed, & couer theyr heades.
14:5The Hynde also forsoke the yonge fawne, that he brought forth in the felde, because there was no grasse.
14:6The wylde Asses dyd stande in the hye places, and drewe in theyr wynde lyke the dragons, theyr eyes dyd fayle for want of grasse.
14:7Doutles oure awne wyckednes doth rewarde vs. But lorde do thou accordyng to thy name, though oure transgressyons & synnes be many, and agenst the haue we synned.
14:8For thou art the comfort & helpe of Israel in the tyme of trouble. Why wilt thou be as a straunger in the lande, & as one that goeth ouer the felde, & commeth in only to remayne for a nyght?
14:9Why wilt thou make thy selfe a cowarde, & as it were a gyaunt that yet maye not helpe? For thou (O Lorde) art in the myddest of vs, & thy name is called vpon of vs: forsake vs not.
14:10Thus hath the Lord sayd vnto this people: seyng they haue had suche a lust to wander abrode, & haue not refrayned theyr fete, & therfore displeased the Lord: but he wyll now bringe agayne to remembraunce all their mysdedes, & ponyshe all theyr synnes.
14:11Yee, euen thus sayde the Lorde vnto me: Thou shalt not praye to do thys people good.
14:12For though they fast, I wil not heare their praiers and though thei offre burntoffringes & sacrifyces, yet wyll not I accepte them. For I will destroye them with the sweard, honger & pestilence.
14:13Then answered I: O Lorde God, the prophetes saye vnto them: Tush, ye shall nede to feare no sweard & no honger shall come vpon you, but the Lorde shall geue you contynuall rest in this place.
14:14And the Lorde sayde vnto me: The prophetes preach lyes in my name, where as I haue not sent them, nether gaue I them eny charge, nether dyd I speake vnto them: yet they preach vnto you false visions, charming, vanite, & disceatfulnes of their awne herte.
14:15Therfore, thus sayeth the Lord. As for those prophetes that preach in my name (whom I neuerthelesse haue not sent) & that saye: Tush, there shall no swerde ner honger be in this land. With swearde & with honger shall those prophetes perysh,
14:16& the people to whom they preache shalbe cast out of Ierusalem, dye of honger, & be slayne wt the swearde, (& there shalbe no man to burye them) both they & theyr wyues, theyr sonnes and theyr daughters. For thus wyll I poure theyr wyckednesse vpon them.
14:17Thys shalt thou say also vnto them. Myne eyes shall wepe without ceassynge daye & nyght. For my people shalbe destroyed wt greate harme, & shall perysh with a greate plage.
14:18For yf I go into the felde, lo, it lyeth all full of slayne men. If I come into the cytie, lo, they be all famyshed of honger. Yee, theyr prophetes also & prestes shalbe led into an vnknowne lande.
14:19Hast thou then vtterly forsaken Iuda? Dost thou so abhorre Syon? Or hast thou so plaged vs, that we can be healed nomore? We loked for peace, and there commeth no good: for the tyme of health, and lo, here is nothing but trouble.
14:20We knowledge (o Lorde) all our mysdedes, & the synnes of our fathers, that we haue offended the.
14:21Be not displeased, (O Lorde) for thy names sake, forget not thy louing kyndnesse. Remembre the throne of thyne honoure, breake not the couenaunt, that thou hast made wt vs.
14:22Are there eny amonge the goddes of the Gentyles, that sende rayne or geue the showers of heauen? Or may the heuens drope rayne without thy commaundement? Dost not thou it, O Lorde our God, in whom we trust? Yee Lorde, thou dost all these thynges.

14:1The word of the Lord, that was maad to Jeremye, of the wordis of dryenesse.
14:2Jude weilide, and the yatis therof fellen doun, and ben maad derk in erthe, and the cry of Jerusalem stiede.
14:3Grettere men senten her lesse men to water; thei camen to drawe watir, and thei foundun no water, thei brouyten ayen her vessels voide; thei weren schent and turmentid,
14:4and thei hiliden her heedis for distriyng of the lond, for reyn cam not in the lond. Erthe tilieris weren schent, thei hiliden her heedis.
14:5For whi and an hynde caluyde in the feeld, and lefte her calues, for noon eerbe was;
14:6and wield assis stoden in rochis, and drowen wynde as dragouns; her iyen failiden, for noon eerbe was.
14:7If oure wickidnessis answeren to vs, Lord, do thou for thi name, for oure turnyngis awei ben manye; we han synned ayens thee.
14:8Thou abidyng of Israel, the sauyour therof in the tyme of tribulacioun,
14:9whi schalt thou be as a comelyng in the lond, and as a weigoere bowynge to dwelle? whi schalt thou be as a man of vnstable dwellyng, as a strong man that mai not saue? Forsothe, Lord, thou art in vs, and thin hooli name is clepid to help on vs; forsake thou not vs.
14:10The Lord seith these thingis to this puple, that louede to stire hise feet, and restide not, and pleside not the Lord; now he schal haue mynde on the wickidnesses of hem, and he schal visite the synnes of hem.
14:11And the Lord seide to me, Nyle thou preie for this puple in to good.
14:12Whanne thei schulen faste, Y schal not here the preieris of hem; and if thei offren brent sacrifices and slayn sacrifices, Y schal not resseyue tho, for Y schal waste hem bi swerd and hungur and pestilence.
14:13And Y seide, A! A! A! Lord God, profetis seien to hem, Ye schulen not se swerd, and hungur schal not be in you, but he schal yyue to you veri pees in this place.
14:14And the Lord seide to me, The profetis profesien falsli in my name; Y sente not hem, and Y comaundide not to hem, nether Y spak to hem; thei profesien to you a fals reuelacioun, and a gileful dyuynyng, and the disseyuyng of her herte.
14:15Therfor the Lord seith these thingis of the profetis that profesien in my name, whiche Y sente not, and seien, Swerd and hungur schal not be in this lond; Tho profetis schulen be wastid bi swerd and hungur.
14:16And the puplis, to whiche thei profesieden, schulen be cast forth in the weies of Jerusalem, for hungur and swerd, and noon schal be, that schal birie hem; they and the wyues of hem, the sones and the douytris of hem `schulen be cast forth; and Y schal schede out on hem her yuel.
14:17And thou schalt seie to hem this word, Myn iyen lede doun a teer bi niyt and dai, and be not stille, for the virgyn, the douyter of my puple, is defoulid bi greet defoulying, with the worste wounde greetli.
14:18If Y go out to feeldis, lo! men ben slayn bi swerd; and if Y entre in to the citee, lo! men ben maad leene for hungur; also a profete and a prest yeden in to the lond which thei knewen not.
14:19Whether thou castynge awei hast cast awei Juda, ether thi soule hath wlatid Sion? whi therfor hast thou smyte vs, so that noon heelthe is? We abididen pees, and no good is; and we abididen time of heeling, and lo! disturbling is.
14:20Lord, we han know oure vnfeithfulnessis, and the wickidnessis of oure fadris, for we han synned to thee.
14:21Yyue thou not vs in to schenschip, for thi name, nether do thou dispite to vs; haue thou mynde on the seete of thi glorie, make thou not voide thi boond of pees with vs.
14:22Whether in grauun ymagis of hethene men ben thei that reynen, ethir heuenes moun yyue reynes? whether thou art not oure Lord God, whom we abididen? For thou madist alle these thingis.

14:1The worde of the LORDE shewed vnto Ieremy, cocernynge ye derth off the frutes.
14:2Iuda shal mourne, men shall not go moch more thorow his gates: the londe shal be nomore had in reputacion, & the crie of Ierusale shal breake out.
14:3The lordes shall sende their seruauntes to fetch water, & when they come to the welles, they shal fynde no water, but shal carie their vessels home emptie. They shalbe ashamed ad confounded, & shal couer their heades.
14:4For the groude shalbe dried vp, because there cometh no rayne vpon it. The plowmen also shalbe ashamed, ad shal couer their heades.
14:5The Hynde shal forsake the yonge fawne, that se brigeth forth in ye felde, because there shalbe no grasse.
14:6The wilde Asses shall stonde in the Mosse, and drawe in their wynde like the Dragos, their eyes shal fayle for wat of grasse.
14:7Doutles oure owne wickednesse rewarde vs: But LORDE do thou acordinge to yi name, though oure transgressions and synnes be many.
14:8For thou art the comforte & helpe of Israel in the tyme of trouble. Why wilt thou be as a straunger in the Londe, and as one that goeth ouer the felde, ad cometh in only to remayne for a night?
14:9Why wilt thou make thy self a cowarde, and as it were a giaute that yet maye not helpe? For thou art ours (o LORDE) and we beare thy name, therfore forsake vs not.
14:10Then spake the LORDE, concernynge this people yt haue pleasure to go so nembly wt their fete, and leaue not of, and therfore displease the LORDE: in so moch, that he will now bringe agayne to remembraunce all their my?dedes, ad punysh all their synnes.
14:11Yee euen thus sayde the LORDE vnto me: Thou shalt not praye to do this people good.
14:12For though they fast, I will not heare their prayers. And though they offre burnt offriges & sacrifices, yet wil not I accepte them. For I will destroye them with the swearde, honger and pestilence.
14:13Then answerde I: O LORDE God, the prophetes saye vnto them: Tush, ye shal se no swearde, and no honger shall come vpon you, but the LORDE shal geue you continuall rest in this place.
14:14And the LORDE sayde vnto me: The prophetes preach lies vnto them in my name. I haue not spoken with them, nether gaue I them eny charge, nether dyd I sende the: yet they preach vnto you false visions, charmynge, vanite, and disceatfulnesse of their owne herte.
14:15Therfore thus saieth the LORDE: As for those prophetes that preach in my name (whom I neuertheles haue not sent) and yt saye: Tush, there shal nether batel ner honger be in this londe: With swearde ad with honger shal those prophetes perish,
14:16and the people to whom they haue preached, shal be cast out of Ierusalem, dye of honger, ad be slayne with the swearde, (and there shal be no man to burie them) both they ad their wyues, their sonnes and their doughters. For thus wil I poure their wickednes vpon the.
14:17This shalt thou saye also vnto them: Myne eyes shal wepe without ceassinge daye & night. For my people shalbe dtstroyed with greate harme, and shall perish with a greate plage.
14:18For yff I go in to the felde, lo, it lieth all full off slayne men: Yff I come in to the cite, lo, they be all fameshed of honger. Yee their prophetes also and prestes shalbe led in to an vnknowne londe.
14:19Hast thou then vtterly forsaken Iuda? (sayde I) Dost thou so abhorre Sio? Or hast thou so plaged vs, that we can be healed nomore? We loked for peace, and there cometh no good: for the tyme of health, & lo, here is nothinge but trouble.
14:20We knowlege (o LORDE) all oure my?dedes, and the synnes of oure fathers, that we haue offended ye.
14:21Be not displeased (o LORDE) for thy names sake, forget not thy louynge kyndnes: Remembre ye trone of thyne honoure, breake not the couenaut, that thou hast made with vs.
14:22Are there eny amonge the goddes of the Gentiles, that sende rayne, or geue the showers of heauen? Dost not thou it o LORDE oure God, in who we trust? Yee LORDE, thou dost all these thinges.
