Jeremiah - Chapter: 22

>
22:1Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
22:2And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates:
22:3Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
22:4For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.
22:5But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.
22:6For thus saith the LORD unto the king's house of Judah; Thou art Gilead unto me, and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
22:7And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.
22:8And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?
22:9Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.
22:10Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: but weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
22:11For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
22:12But he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.
22:13Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
22:14That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is cieled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.
22:15Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?
22:16He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.
22:17But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.
22:18Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!
22:19He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
22:20Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed.
22:21I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.
22:22The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
22:23O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!
22:24As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;
22:25And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
22:26And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
22:27But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.
22:28Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
22:29O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.
22:30Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

22:1Thus said the Lord, Goe downe to the house of the King of Iudah, and speake there this thing,
22:2And say, Heare the worde of the Lord, O King of Iudah, that sittest vpon the throne of Dauid, thou and thy seruants, and thy people that enter in by these gates.
22:3Thus saith the Lord, Execute ye iudgement and righteousnes, and deliuer the oppressed from the hande of the oppressor, and vexe not the stranger, the fatherlesse, nor the widowe: doe no violence, nor sheade innocent blood in this place.
22:4For if ye do this thing, then shall the kings sitting vpon the throne of Dauid enter in by the gates of this House, and ride vpon charets, and vpon horses, both he and his seruants and his people.
22:5But if ye will not heare these wordes, I sweare by my selfe, saith the Lord, that this House shalbe waste.
22:6For thus hath the Lord spoken vpon the Kings house of Iudah, Thou art Gilead vnto me, and the head of Lebanon, yet surely I wil make thee a wildernes and as cities not inhabited,
22:7And I will prepare destroyers against thee, euery one with his weapons, and they shall cut downe thy chiefe cedar trees, and cast them in the fire.
22:8And many nations shall passe by this citie, and they shall say euery man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the Lord done thus vnto this great citie?
22:9Then shall they answere, Because they haue forsaken the couenant of the Lord their God, and worshipped other gods, and serued them.
22:10Weepe not for the dead, and be not moued for them, but weepe for him that goeth out: for he shall returne no more, nor see his natiue countrey.
22:11For thus saith ye Lord, As touching Shallum the sonne of Iosiah King of Iudah, which reigned for Iosiah his father, which went out of this place, he shall not returne thither,
22:12But he shall die in the place, whither they haue ledde him captiue, and shall see this lande no more.
22:13Wo vnto him that buildeth his house by vnrighteousnesse, and his chambers without equitie: he vseth his neighbour without wages, and giueth him not for his worke.
22:14He saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers: so he will make him selfe large windowes, and feeling with cedar, and paint them with vermilion.
22:15Shalt thou reigne, because thou closest thy selfe in cedar? did not thy father eate and drinke and prosper, when he executed iudgement and iustice?
22:16When he iudged the cause of the afflicted and the poore, he prospered: was not this because he knewe me, saith the Lord?
22:17But thine eyes and thine heart are but only for thy couetousnesse, and for to sheade innocent blood, and for oppression, and for destruction, euen to doe this.
22:18Therefore thus saith the Lord against Iehoiakim, the sonne of Iosiah king of Iudah, They shall not lament him, saying, Ah, my brother, or ah, sister: neither shall they mourne for him, saying, Ah, lord, or ah, his glorie.
22:19He shalbe buryed, as an asse is buryed, euen drawen and cast foorth without the gates of Ierusalem.
22:20Goe vp to Lebanon, and cry: showte in Bashan and crye by the passages: for all thy louers are destroyed.
22:21I spake vnto thee when thou wast in prosperitie: but thou saidest, I will not heare: this hath bene thy maner from thy youth, that thou wouldest not obey my voyce.
22:22The wind shall feede all thy pastors, and thy louers shall goe into captiuitie: and then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded of al thy wickednesse.
22:23Thou that dwellest in Lebanon, and makest thy nest in the cedars, howe beautiful shalt thou be when sorowes come vpon thee, as the sorowe of a woman in trauaile?
22:24As I liue, saith the Lord, though Coniah the sonne of Iehoiakim King of Iudah, were the signet of my right hand, yet would I plucke thee thence.
22:25And I will giue thee into the hande of them that seeke thy life, and into the hande of them, whose face thou fearest, euen into the hand of Nebuchad-nezzar king of Babel, and into the hande of the Caldeans.
22:26And I will cause them to cary thee away, and thy mother that bare thee, into another countrey, where ye were not borne, and there shall ye die.
22:27But to the lande, whereunto they desire to returne, they shall not returne thither.
22:28Is not this man Coniah as a despised and broken idole? or as a vessell, wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they caryed away, hee and his seede, and cast out into a lande that they knowe not?
22:29O earth, earth, earth, heare the worde of the Lord.
22:30Thus saith the Lord, Write this man destitute of children, a man that shall not prosper in his dayes: for there shall be no man of his seede that shall prosper and sit vpon the throne of Dauid, or beare rule any more in Iudah.

22:1Thus sayde the Lorde, Go downe into the house of the kynge of Iuda, & speake there these wordes,
22:2and saye: Heare the worde of the Lorde, thou king of Iuda that syttest in the kyngly seat of Dauid: thou and thy seruauntes and thy people that go in and out at this gate.
22:3Thus the Lorde commaundeth: kepe equyte and righteousnesse, deliuer the oppressed from the power of the violent: do not greue ner oppresse the straunger, the fatherlesse ner the wyddow. and shed no innocent bloude in this place.
22:4And yf ye kepe these thynges faythfully then shal there come in at the dore of this house kinges, to sit vpon Dauids seate: they shalbe caried in Charettes and ryde vpon horses both they and their seruauntes, and theyr people.
22:5But yf ye will not be obedient vnto these commaundementes, I sweare by myne awne selfe (sayeth the Lorde) thys house shal be waste.
22:6For thus hath the Lorde spoken vpon the kynges house of Iuda. Thou Gilead art vnto me the head of Libanus. Shall I not make the so waste (& thy cyties also) that no man shall dwell therin?
22:7I wil prepare a destroyer with his weapens for the, to hewe downe thy speciall Cedre trees, and to cast them in the fyre.
22:8And all the people that go by this cytie, shal speak one to another. Wherfore hath the Lorde done thus vnto this noble cytie?
22:9Then shall it be answered: because they haue broken the couenaunt of the Lorde theyr God, and haue worshypped & serued straunge goddes.
22:10Mourne not ouer the deed, and be not wo for them, but be sory for hym that departeth awaye: for he commeth not agayne, and seeth his natiue countre no more.
22:11For thus sayeth the Lorde, as touchynge Selum the sonne of Iosias kynge of Iuda, which raygned after his father, and is caried out of this place, he shal neuer come hyther agayne,
22:12for he shal dye in the place, wher vnto he is led captiue, and shall se this lande nomore.
22:13Wo worth him, that buyldeth hys house with vnrighteousnes, and his parlers with the good that he hath gotten by vyolence: which neuer recompenseth his neyghbours laboure, ner payeth him his hyre.
22:14He thyncketh in him selfe. I wyll buylde me a wyde house, & gorgeous parlers. He causeth windowes to be hewen therin, and the sylynges and ioystes maketh he of Cedre, and paynteth them with Synaper.
22:15Thynckest thou to raygne, now that thou prouokest me to wrath with the Cedre trees? Dyd not thy father eate and drincke, and prospere well, as longe as he dealt wt equite and righteousnesse?
22:16Yee, when he helped the oppressed and poore to their right, then prospered he well. From whence came thys, but onely because he had me before hys eyes, sayeth the Lorde?
22:17Neuertheles, as for thyne eyes and thyne herte, they loke vpon coueteousnesse, to shed innocent bloude, to do wronge & violence.
22:18And therfore, thus sayeth the Lorde agaynst Iehoakim, the sonne of Iosias kyng of Iuda. They shall not mourne for him (as they vse to do) alas brother, alas syster. Nether shal they saye vnto him: Alas syr, alas for that noble prince.
22:19But as an Asse shall he be buryed, corrupte and be cast without the gates of Ierusalem.
22:20Clyme vp the hyll of Libanus (O thou daughter Sion) lyft vp thy voyce vpon Basan, crye from all partes: for all thy louers are destroyed.
22:21I gaue the warnynge, whyle thou wast yet in prosperyte. But thou saydest: I wyll not heare. And this maner hast thou vsed from thy youth, that thou woldest neuer heare my voyce.
22:22All thy herdmen shalbe driuen with the wynde, and thy derlynges shalbe caryed awaye into captiuite. Then shalt thou be brought to shame & confusion because of al thy wickednes:
22:23thou that dwellest vpon Libanus, & makest thy nest in the Cedre trees O how litle shalt thou be regarded when thy sorowes & pangues come vpon the, as a woman trauelynge with chylde.
22:24As truly as I lyue (sayeth the Lorde:) Though Conanias the sonne of Iehoakim kynge of Iuda were the sygnet of my right hande, yet will I plucke him of.
22:25And I will geue the into the power of them that seke to slaye the, and into the power of them that thou fearest: into the power of Nabuchodonosor the Kynge of Babylon, and into the power of the Caldees.
22:26Moreouer, I wyll sende the, and thy mother that bare the into a straunge lande, where ye were not borne, and there shall ye dye.
22:27But as for the lande that ye wyll desyre to returne vnto, ye shal neuer come at it agayne.
22:28This man Conanias shall be lyke an ymage robbed & torne in peces, which pleaseth noman, for all hys apparell. Wherfore both he and his sede shalbe sent awaye, and cast out into a lande, that they knowe not.
22:29O thou earth, earth, earth: heare the worde of the Lorde. Thus sayeth the Lorde:
22:30Wryte this man amonge the outlawes, for no prosperite shall this man haue all his lyfe longe. Nether shall eny of his sede be so happie, as to syt vpon the seat of Dauid, and to beare rule in Iuda.
