Jeremiah - Chapter: 29


29:1	Now these are the words of the letter, that Ieremiah the prophet sent from Ierusalem vnto the residue of the elders which were caried away captiues, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchad-nezzar had caried away captiue from Ierusalem to Babylon,
29:2	(After that Ieconiah the king, and the queene, and the eunuches, the princes of Iudah and Ierusalem, and the carpenters and the smithes were departed from Ierusalem)
29:3	By the hand of Elasah the sonne of Shaphan, and Gemariah the sonne of Hilkiah, whome Zedekiah king of Iudah sent vnto Babylon to Nebuchad-nezzar king of Babylon, saying,
29:4	Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel vnto all that are caried away captiues, whom I haue caused to be caried away from Ierusalem vnto Babylon:
29:5	Build ye houses and dwell in them, and plant gardens, and eate the fruit of them.
29:6	Take ye wiues, and beget sonnes and daughters, and take wiues for your sonnes, and giue your daughters to husbands, that they may beare sonnes and daughters, that ye may bee increased there, and not diminished.
29:7	And seeke the peace of the citie, whither I haue caused you to be caried away captiues, & pray vnto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall yee haue peace.
29:8	For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Let not your prophets and your diuiners, that bee in the midst of you, deceiue you, neither hearken to your dreames which yee cause to be dreamed.
29:9	For they prophecie falsly vnto you in my name: I haue not sent them, saith the Lord.
29:10	For thus saith the Lord, That after seuentie yeeres be accomplished at Babylon, I will visite you, and performe my good word towards you, in causing you to returne to this place.
29:11	For I knowe the thoughts that I thinke towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of euill, to giue you an expected end.
29:12	Then shall ye call vpon me, and ye shall goe and pray vnto mee, and I will hearken vnto you.
29:13	And ye shall seeke me, and finde me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
29:14	And I will be found of you, saith the Lord, and I will turne away your captiuitie, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I haue driuen you, saith the Lord, and I will bring you againe into the place whence I caused you to be caried away captiue.
29:15	Because yee haue said, The Lord hath raised vs vp prophets in Babylon:
29:16	Know that thus saith the Lord, of the king that sitteth vpon the throne of Dauid, and of all the people that dwelleth in this citie, and of your brethren that are not gone foorth with you into captiuitie.
29:17	Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Beholde, I will send vpon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figges, that cannot be eaten, they are so euill.
29:18	And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliuer them to be remooued to all the kingdomes of the earth, to be a curse and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproch among all the nations, whither I haue driuen them.
29:19	Because they haue not hearkened to my words, saith the Lord, which I sent vnto them by my seruants the Prophets, rising vp early, and sending them, but ye would not heare, saith the Lord.
29:20	Heare yee therefore the word of the Lord, all ye of the captiuitie, whom I haue sent from Ierusalem to Babylon.
29:21	Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel, of Ahab the sonne of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the sonne of Maaseiah, which prophecie a lye vnto you in my Name, Behold, I will deliuer them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and hee shall slay them before your eyes.
29:22	And of them shall bee taken vp a eurse by all the captiuitie of Iudah which are in Babylon, saying, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah, and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon rosted in the fire.
29:23	Because they haue committed villanie in Israel, and haue committed adulterie with their neighbors wiues, and haue spoken lying wordes in my Name, which I haue not commanded them, euen I know, and am a witnesse, saith the Lord.
29:24	Thus shalt thou also speake to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying:
29:25	Thus speaketh the Lord of hostes the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name vnto all the people that are at Ierusalem, and to Zephaniah the sonne of Maaseiah the Priest, and to all the priests, saying;
29:26	The Lord hath made thee Priest in the stead of Iehoiada the Priest, that ye should be Officers in the house of the Lord, for euery man that is madde, and maketh himselfe a Prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stockes:
29:27	Now therefore why hast thou not reproued Ieremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himselfe a Prophet to you?
29:28	For therefore he sent vnto vs in Babylon, saying, This captiuitie is long, build ye houses and dwell in them, and plant gardens, and eate the fruit of them.
29:29	And Zephaniah the Priest read this letter in the eares of Ieremiah the Prophet.
29:30	Then came the word of the Lord vnto Ieremiah, saying;
29:31	Send to all them of the captiuitie, saying, Thus saith the Lord, concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah hath prophecied vnto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lye.
29:32	Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his seed: he shall not haue a man to dwell among this people, neither shall hee behold the good that I will doe for my people, saith the Lord, because he hath taught rebellion against the Lord.


29:1	Now these are the wordes of the booke that Ieremiah the Prophet sent from Ierusalem vnto the residue of the Elders which were caryed away captiues, and to the Priestes, and to the Prophets, and to all the people whome Nebuchad-nezzar had caried away captiue from Ierusalem to Babel:
29:2	(After that Ieconiah the King, and the Queene, and the eunuches, the princes of Iudah, and of Ierusalem, and the workemen, and cunning men were departed from Ierusalem)
29:3	By the hand of Elasah the sonne of Shaphan and Gemariah the sonne of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah King of Iudah sent vnto Babel to Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel) saying,
29:4	Thus hath the Lord of hostes the God of Israel spoken vnto all that are caryed away captiues, whome I haue caused to be caryed away captiues from Ierusalem vnto Babel:
29:5	Buylde you houses to dwell in, and plant you gardens, and eate the fruites of them.
29:6	Take you wiues, and beget sonnes and daughters, and take wiues for your sonnes, and giue your daughters to husbands, that they may beare sonnes and daughters, that ye may bee increased there, and not diminished.
29:7	And seeke the prosperitie of the citie, whither I haue caused you to be caried away captiues, and pray vnto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall you haue peace.
29:8	For thus saith the Lord of hostes the God of Israel, Let not your prophets, and your southsayers that bee among you, deceiue you, neither giue eare to your dreames, which you dreame.
29:9	For they prophecie you a lie in my Name: I haue not sent them, saith the Lord.
29:10	But thus saith the Lord, That after seuentie yeeres be accomplished at Babel, I will visite you, and performe my good promise toward you, and cause you to returne to this place.
29:11	For I knowe the thoughtes, that I haue thought towards you, saith the Lord, euen the thoughtes of peace, and not of trouble, to giue you an ende, and your hope.
29:12	Then shall you crie vnto mee, and ye shall go and pray vnto me, and I will heare you,
29:13	And ye shall seeke mee and finde mee, because ye shall seeke mee with all your heart.
29:14	And I wil be found of you, saith the Lord, and I will turne away your captiuitie, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places, whither I haue cast you, saith the Lord, and will bring you againe vnto the place, whence I caused you to be caryed away captiue.
29:15	Because ye haue sayd, The Lord hath raised vs vp Prophets in Babel,
29:16	Therefore thus saith the Lord of the King, that sitteth vpon the throne of Dauid, and of all the people, that dwell in this citie, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captiuitie:
29:17	Euen thus sayth the Lord of hostes, Beholde, I will sende vpon them the sworde, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figges, that cannot bee eaten, they are so naughtie.

29:19	Because they haue not hearde my words, saith the Lord, which I sent vnto them by my seruantes the Prophetes, rising vp earely, and sending them, but yee woulde not heare, saith the Lord.
29:20	Heare ye therefore the word of the Lord all ye of the captiuitie, whome I haue sent from Ierusalem to Babel.
29:21	Thus saith the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, of Ahab the sonne of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the sonne of Maaseiah, which prophecie lyes vnto you in my Name, Beholde, I will deliuer them into the hande of Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel, and he shall slay them before your eyes.
29:22	And al they of the captiuitie of Iudah, that are in Babel, shall take vp this curse against them, and say, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whome the King of Babel burnt in the fire,
29:23	Because they haue committed vilenie in Israel, and haue committed adulterie with their neighbours wiues, and haue spoken lying words in my Name, which I haue not commanded them, euen I knowe it, and testifie it, saith the Lord.
29:24	Thou shalt also speake to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,
29:25	Thus speaketh the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy Name vnto all the people, that are at Ierusalem, and to Zephaniah the sonne of Maaseiah the Priest, and to all the Priests, saying,
29:26	The Lord hath made thee Priest for Iehoiada the Priest, that yee should bee officers in the House of the Lord, for euery man that raueth and maketh himselfe a Prophet, to put him in prison and in the stockes.
29:27	Nowe therefore why hast not thou reproued Ieremiah of Anathoth, which prophecieth vnto you?
29:28	For, for this cause hee sent vnto vs in Babel, saying, This captiuitie is long: buyld houses to dwell in, and plant gardens, and eate the fruites of them.
29:29	And Zephaniah the Priest red this letter in the eares of Ieremiah the Prophet.
29:30	Then came the worde of the Lord vnto Ieremiah, saying,
29:31	Send to all them of the captiuitie, saying, Thus saith the Lord of Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah hath prophecied vnto you, and I sent him not, and hee caused you to trust in a lye,
29:32	Therefore thus saieth the Lord, Behold, I wil visite Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seede: hee shall not haue a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he beholde the good, that I will doe for my people, sayth the Lord, because he hath spoken rebelliously against the Lord.


29:1	These are the wordes of the boke, that Ieremy the prophet sent from Ierusalem vnto the presoners, the senatoures, prestes, prophetes, & all the people, whom Nabuchodonosor had led vnto Babilon:
29:2	after that time that king Iechoniah and his quene, his chamberlaynes, the princes of Iuda and Ierusalem, the worckemasters of Ierusalem were departed thyther.
29:3	Which boke Elasah the sonne of Saphan, and Gamariah the sonne of Helkiah dyd beare, whom Zedekiah the kyng of Iuda sent vnto Babilon to Nabuchodonosor the kinge of Babilon: these were the wordes of Ieremyes boke.
29:4	Thus hath the Lorde of hoostes the God of Israel spoken vnto all the presoners, that were led from Ierusalem vnto Babylon:
29:5	buylde you houses to dwel therin: plante you gardens, that ye maye enioye the frutes therof:
29:6	take you wyues, to beare you sonnes & daughters, prouyde wyues for your sonnes and husbandes for your daughters that they maye get sonnes and daughters, and that ye maye multiplye there. Laboure not to be fewe,
29:7	but seke after peace and prosperite of the citye, wherin ye be presoners, & praye vnto God for it. For in the peace therof, shall yor peace be.
29:8	For thus sayth the Lorde of hostes the God of Israel. Let not these prophetes and sothsayers that be among you disceaue you: & beleue not your awne dreames.
29:9	For why? they preache you lyes in my name, and I haue not sent them, sayth the Lorde.
29:10	But thus sayth the Lorde. When ye haue fulfylled .lxx. yeares at Babylon, I wyll brynge you home, & of myne awne goodnes I wyll carye you hyther agayne into thys place.
29:11	For I know what I haue deuised for you, sayth the Lorde. My thoughtes are to geue you peace, and not trouble (which I geue you all ready) and that ye myght haue hope againe.
29:12	Ye shall crye vnto me, ye shall go and call vpon me, and I shall heare you.
29:13	Ye shall seke me and fynde me. Yee, yf so be that ye seke me with your whole hert,
29:14	I wil be founde of you, sayth the Lorde, and wyll delyuer you oute of preson, and gather you together agayne out of all places, wherin I haue scatered you, sayeth the Lorde, and wyll brynge you agayne to the same place, from whence I caused you to be caried awaye captiue.
29:15	But where as ye saye, that God hath raised you vp prophetes at Babilon.
29:16	Thus hath the Lorde spoken to the kinge that sytteth in the throne of Dauid, and to all the people that dwell in this citye, youre brethren that are not gone with you into captiuytie.
29:17	Thus (I saye) speaketh the Lord of hostes: Beholde, I wyll sende a swearde, honger and pestilence vpon them, and wyll make them lyke vntimely fygges, that maye not be eaten for bitternes.
29:18	And I will persecute them with the swearde, with honger, and pestilence. I will delyuer them vp to be vexed of all kingdomes, to be cursed, abhorred, laughed to scorne, and put to confusyon of all the people, amonge whom I haue scatered them:
29:19	and that because they haue not bene obedient vnto my commaundementes, sayth the Lorde, which I sente vnto them by my seruauntes the prophetes. I stode vp early, and sent vnto them: but they wolde not heare, sayeth the Lorde.
29:20	Heare therfore the worde of the Lorde, all ye presoners, whom I sente from Ierusalem vnto Babilon.
29:21	Thus hath the Lorde of hostes the God of Israel spoken of Ahab the sonne of Colaiah, and of Zedekiah the sonne of Maasiah, which prophecye lyes vnto you in my name. Beholde, I wyll deliuer them into the hande of Nabuchodonosor the kyng of Babilon, that he maye slaye them before youre eyes.
29:22	And all the presoners of Iuda, that are in Babilon shall take vpon thys terme of cursynge, and saye: Nowe God do vnto the, as he dyd vnto Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babilon rosted in the fyer,
29:23	because they synned shamefully in Israel. For they haue not onely defiled their neyghbours wyues, but also preached lyinge wordes in my name, which I haue not commaunded them. This I testifye, and assure, sayth the Lorde.
29:24	But as for Semeiah the Nehelamite thou shalt speake vnto hym.
29:25	Thus sayth the Lord of hostes the God of Israel: Because thou hast sealed letters vnder thy name vnto all the people that is at Ierusalem, and to Sophoniah the sonne of Maasiah the preste: yee, & sent them to all the prestes: wherein thou wrytest thus vnto hym:
29:26	The Lorde hath ordeyned the to be preste in the stead of Iehoiada the preste: that thou shuldest be the chefe in the house of the Lord aboue all prophetes, and preachers, and that thou mightest set them vpon the pillery, or in the stockes.
29:27	Howe happeneth it then, that thou hast not reproued Ieremye of Anathoth, which neuer leaueth of his prophecienge.
29:28	And besyde all thys, he hath sent vs worde vnto Babilon, and tolde vs playnely, that oure captiuite shall longe endure: that we shulde buylde vs houses to dwell therin: & to plante vs gardens that we maye enioye the frutes therof.
29:29	Which lettre Sophoniah the preaste redde, and let Ieremy the prophete heare it.
29:30	Then came the worde of the Lorde vnto Ieremy, sayinge:
29:31	Sende worde to all them that be in captiuyte, on thys maner: Thus hath the Lorde spoken concerning Semeiah the Nehelamite: Because that Semeiah hath prophecyed vnto you without my commyssion, & brought you into a fals hope,
29:32	therfore thus the Lorde dothe certifye you: Beholde, I will viset Semeiah the Nehelamite, and his seede: so that none of hys shall remayne amonge this people, and none of them shall se the good, that I will do for this people, sayth the Lorde. For he hath preached falsely of the Lorde.
