Jeremiah - Chapter: 31


31:1	At the same tyme, sayth the Lord, shall I be the God of all the generatyons of Israel, and they shalbe my people.
31:2	Thus sayeth the Lorde: The people of Israel, which escaped in the wildernesse from the swearde, founde grace to come into theyr rest.
31:3	Euen so shall the Lorde now also apeare vnto me from farre, and saye: I loue the with an euerlasting loue, therfore, by my mercye I haue drawen the to me.
31:4	I will repayre the agayne, O thou daughter of Israel, that thou mayest be fast and sure. Thou shalt take thy tabrettes agayne, and go forth with them, that leade the daunce.
31:5	Thou shalt plante vynes agayne vpon the hylles of Samaria, and the grape gatherers shall plante, and commenly eate of it.
31:6	For the dayes shall come when the watchemen vpon the mount of Ephraim shall crye: aryse, let vs go vp vnto Sion to our Lorde God,
31:7	for thus sayth the Lorde: Reioyce with gladnes because of Iacob, crie vnto the head of the Gentils: speake out, syng, and saye: O Lorde saue thy people, the remnaunt of Israel, and make them whole.
31:8	Beholde, I wyll bringe them agayne from out of the north lande, and gather them from the endes of the worlde, with the blynde and lame that are amonge them, with the wemen that be great with chylde, and soch as be also delyuered: and the company of them that come agayne, shalbe greate.
31:9	They shall come weping and with mercyfull pitye wyll I bring them hyther agayn. I wyll leade them to the ryuers of water in a strayght waye, where they shall not stomble. For I am Israels father, & Ephraim is my fyrst borne.
31:10	Heare the worde of the Lorde, O ye Gentiles, preach in the yles, that lye farre of, and saye: he that hath scatered Israel, shall gather hym together agayne, & shall kepe hym as a shepherde doth his flocke.
31:11	For the Lord hath redemed Iacob, and ryd hym from the hande of the violent.
31:12	And they shall come, & reioyce vpon the hyll of Sion, and shall haue plenteousnes of goodes, which the Lorde shall geue them. Namely, wheate, wyne, oyle, yonge shepe & calues. And theyr conscience shalbe as a well watred garden, for they shall nomore be hongrye.
31:13	Then shall the mayde reioyce in the daunce, yee, both yonge and olde folkes. For I wyll turne their sorowe into gladnesse, and wyll conforte them from theyr sorowes and make them ioyfull.
31:14	I wyll powre plenteousnesse vpon the hertes of the prestes, and my people shalbe satisfyed with my goodnesse, sayth the Lord
31:15	Thus sayth the Lorde: The voyce of heuynes, weping and lamentation was heard on hye: euen of Rachel mournyng for her children, and wolde not be conforted, because they were awaye.
31:16	But nowe, sayth the Lorde, leaue of from wepynge and crienge, witholde thyne eyes from teares, for thy laboure shalbe rewarded, sayth the Lorde. And they shall come agayne out of the lande of their enemies:
31:17	Yee, euen thy posterite shall haue consolation in this, sayth the Lorde, that thy chyldren shall come agayne into their awne lande.
31:18	Moreouer, I heard Ephraim, that was led awaye captiue, complayne on this maner: O Lorde, thou hast correct me, & thy chastenynge haue I receaued, as an vntamed calfe. Conuerte thou me, and I shalbe conuerted: for thou art my Lorde God:
31:19	Yee, assone as thou turnest me, I shall refourme my selfe: and when I vnderstande, I shall smyte vpon my thyghe. For verely I haue commytted shamefull thinges. For I haue borne the reprofe and confusion of my youth.
31:20	Upon this complaynte, I thought thus by my selfe: is not Ephraim my deare sonne? Is he not the childe, with whom I haue had all myrth and pastyme? For sens the time that I first commened with hym, I haue him euer in remembraunce: therfore, my very hert dryueth me vnto him, gladly and louynglye wyll I haue mercy vpon him, sayth the Lord.
31:21	Get the watchmen, prouyde teachers for the, set thyne hert vpon the ryght waye, that thou shuldest walke, and turne agayn, O thou daughter of Israel, turne agayne to these cityes of thyne.
31:22	Howe longe wilt thou go astraye, O thou shrynking daughter? For the Lord wyll worke a newe thing vpon earth. A woman shall compasse a man.
31:23	For thus sayth the Lorde of hoostes the God of Israel: It wyll come therto, that when I haue brought Iuda out of captiuite, these wordes shalbe heard in the lande and in hys cityes. The Lorde, which is the fayre brydegrome of ryghteousnes, make the frutefull, O thou holy hyll.
31:24	And there shall dwell Iuda, and all her cityes, the shepherdes, and husbandemen.
31:25	For I shall fede the hongrye soule, and refresh all faynte hertes.
31:26	When I hearde thys, I came agayne to my selfe, I mused, lyke as I had bene waked oute of a swete slepe.
31:27	Beholde, sayth the Lorde, the dayes come, that I wyll sowe the house of Israel, & the house of Iuda, with men and with catell.
31:28	Yee, it shall come therto, that lyke as I haue gone about in tymes past to rote them out, to scatre them, to breake them downe, to destroye them, and chasten them. Euen so wyll I also go diligently aboute, to buylde them vp agayne, & to plante them, sayth the Lorde.
31:29	Then shall it nomore be sayde: the fathers haue eaten a sower grape, and the chyldrens teeth are set on edge:
31:30	for euery one shall dye for hys awne mysdede, so that whoso eateth a sowre grape, hys teeth shalbe set on edge.
31:31	Beholde, the dayes come, sayth the Lorde, that I wyll make a newe couenaunt wt the house of Israel, and wt the house of Iuda:
31:32	not after the couenaunt that I made wt their fathers, when I toke them by the hande: and led them out of the lande of Egypt: which couenaunt they bracke: yee, euen when I as an husbande had rule ouer them, sayeth the Lorde.
31:33	But this shalbe the couenaunt that I wyll make with the house of Israel after those dayes, sayth the Lorde. I will plante my lawe in the inward partes of them, and wryte it in their hertes, & wilbe their God, and they shalbe my people.
31:34	And from thens forth, shall no man teach his neyghbour or his brother, & saye: knowe the Lorde. But they shall all knowe me from the lowest vnto the hyest, sayth the Lorde. For I will forgeue their mysdedes, and will neuer remembre their synnes eny more.
31:35	Thus sayth the Lorde, which gaue the sunne to be a lyght for the daye, and the moone and starres to shyne in the night: which moueth the see, so that the floudes therof waxe fearce: his name is the Lorde of hoostes.
31:36	Like as this ordinaunce shall neuer be taken oute of my syght, sayth the Lorde. So shall the sede of Israel neuer ceasse, but allwaye be a people before me.
31:37	Moreouer, thus sayth the Lorde: lyke as the heauen aboue cannot be measured, & as the foundacions of the earth beneth maye not be sought out. So wyll I also not cast out the whole seede of Israel, for that they haue commytted, sayeth the Lorde.
31:38	Beholde, the dayes come, sayth the Lord, that the citye of the Lorde shalbe enlarged from the towre of Hananeel, vnto the gate of the corner wall:
31:39	From thens shall the ryght measure be taken before her vnto the hyll toppe of Gareb, & shal come about Gaath,
31:40	and the whole valley of the deed carkases, and of the ashes, and all the feldes vnto the broke of Cedron: and vnto the corner of the horsgate towarde the east, where as the sanctuary of the Lorde also shalbe set. And when it is nowe buylded, and set vp of thys fasshyon, it shall neuer be be broken, nor cast downe any more.

31:2	The Lord seith these thingis, The puple that was left of swerd, foond grace in desert; Israel schal go to his reste.
31:3	Fer the Lord apperide to me, and in euerlastynge charite Y louede thee; therfor Y doynge merci drow thee.
31:4	And eft Y schal bilde thee, and thou, virgyn Israel, schalt be bildid; yit thou schalt be ourned with thi tympans, and schalt go out in the cumpenye of pleieris.
31:5	Yit thou schalt plaunte vynes in the hillis of Samarie; men plauntynge schulen plaunte, and til the tyme come, thei schulen not gadere grapis.
31:6	For whi a dai schal be, wherynne keperis schulen crye in the hil of Samarie, and in the hil of Effraym, Rise ye, and stie we in to Sion, to oure Lord God.
31:7	For the Lord seith these thingis, Jacob, make ye ful out ioye in gladnesse, and neye ye ayens the heed of hethene men; sowne ye, synge ye, and seie ye, Lord, saue thi puple, the residues of Israel.
31:8	Lo! Y schal brynge hem fro the loond of the north, and Y schal gadere hem fro the fertheste partis of erthe; among whiche schulen be a blynd man, and crokid, and a womman with childe, and trauelynge of child togidere, a greet cumpeny of hem that schulen turne ayen hidur.
31:9	Thei schulen come in wepyng, and Y schal brynge hem ayen in merci; and Y schal brynge hem bi the strondis of watris in a riytful weie, thei schulen not spurne therynne; for Y am maad a fadir to Israel, and Effraym is my gendrid sone.
31:10	Ye hethene men, here ye the word of the Lord, and telle ye in ylis that ben fer, and seie, He that scateride Israel, schal gadere it, and schal kepe it, as a scheepherde kepith his floc.
31:11	For the Lord ayenbouyte Jacob, and delyuerede hym fro the hond of the myytiere.
31:12	And thei schulen come, and herye in the hil of Sion; and thei schulen flowe togidere to the goodis of the Lord, on wheete, wyn, and oile, and on the fruyt of scheep, and of neet; and the soule of hem schal be as a watri gardyn, and thei schulen no more hungre.
31:13	Thanne a virgyn schal be glad in a cumpenye, yonge men and elde togidere; and Y schal turne the morenyng of hem in to ioie, and Y schal coumforte hem, and Y schal make hem glad of her sorewe.
31:14	And Y schal greetli fille the soule of prestis with fatnesse, and my puple schal be fillid with my goodis, seith the Lord.
31:15	The Lord seith these thingis, A vois of weilyng, and of wepyng, and of mourenyng, was herd an hiy; the vois of Rachel biwepynge hir sones, and not willynge to be coumfortid on hem, for thei ben not.
31:16	The Lord seith these thingis, Thi vois reste of wepyng, and thin iyen reste of teeres; for whi mede is to thi werk, seith the Lord; and thei schulen turne ayen fro the lond of the enemy.
31:17	And hope is to thi laste thingis, seith the Lord, and thi sones schulen turne ayen to her endis.
31:18	I heringe herde Effraym passinge ouer; thou chastisidist me, and Y am lerned as a yong oon vntemyd; turne thou me, and Y schal be conuertid, for thou art my Lord God.
31:19	For aftir that thou conuertidist me, Y dide penaunce; and aftir that thou schewidist to me, Y smoot myn hipe; Y am schent, and Y schamede, for Y suffride the schenschipe of my yongthe.
31:20	For Effraym is a worschipful sone to me, for he is a delicat child; for sithen Y spak of hym, yit Y schal haue mynde on hym; therfor myn entrails ben disturblid on him, Y doynge merci schal haue merci on hym, seith the Lord.
31:21	Ordeyne to thee an hiy totyng place, sette to thee bitternesses; dresse thin herte in to a streiyt weie, in which thou yedist; turne ayen, thou virgyn of Israel, turne ayen to these thi citees.
31:22	Hou longe, douyter of vnstidfast dwellyng, art thou maad dissolut in delices? for the Lord hath maad a newe thing on erthe, a womman schal cumpasse a man.
31:23	The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Yit thei schulen seie this word in the lond of Juda, and in the citees therof, whane Y schal turne the caytifte of hem, The Lord blesse thee, thou fairnesse of riytfulnesse, thou hooli hil.
31:24	And Juda, and alle citees therof schulen dwelle in it togidere, erthetilieris, and thei that dryuen flockis.
31:25	For Y fillide greetli a feynt soule, and Y haue fillid ech hungri soule.
31:26	Therfor Y am as reisid fro sleep, and Y siy; and my sleep was swete to me.
31:27	Lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and Y schal sowe the hous of Israel and the hous of Juda with the seed of men, and with the seed of werk beestis.
31:28	And as Y wakide on hem, to drawe vp bi the roote, and to distrie, and to scatere, and to leese, and to turmente; so Y schal wake on hem, to bilde, and to plaunte, seith the Lord.
31:29	In tho daies thei schulen no more seie, The fadres eeten a sour grape, and the teeth of sones weren astonyed; but ech man schal die in his wickidnesse,
31:30	ech man that etith a sour grape, hise teeth schulen be astonyed.
31:31	Lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and Y schal smyte a newe boond of pees to the hous of Israel, and to the hous of Juda;
31:32	not bi the couenaunte which Y made with youre fadris, in the dai in which Y took the hond of hem, to lede hem out of the lond of Egipt, the couenaunte which thei made voide; and Y was Lord of hem, seith the Lord.
31:33	But this schal be the couenaunte, which Y schal smyte with the hous of Israel aftir tho daies, seith the Lord; Y schal yyue my lawe in the entrails of hem, and Y schal write it in the herte of hem, and Y schal be in to God to hem, and thei schulen be in to a puple to me.
31:34	And a man schal no more teche his neiybore, and a man his brother, and seie, Knowe thou the Lord; for alle schulen knowe me, fro the leeste of hem `til to the mooste, seith the Lord; for Y schal be merciful to the wickidnessis of hem, and Y schal no more be myndeful on the synne of hem.
31:35	The Lord seith these thingis, that yyueth the sunne in the liyt of dai, the ordre of the moone and of sterris in the liyt of the niyt, whiche disturblith the see, and the wawis therof sownen, the Lord of oostis is name to hym.
31:36	If these lawis failen bifore me, seith the Lord, thanne and the seed of Israel schal faile, that it be not a folk bifore me in alle daies.
31:37	The Lord seith these thingis, If heuenes aboue moun be mesurid, and the foundementis of erthe bynethe be souyt out, and Y schal caste awei al the seed of Israel, for alle thingis whiche thei diden, seith the Lord.
31:38	Lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and a citee schal be bildid to the Lord, fro the tour of Ananeel `til to the yate of the corner.
31:39	And it schal go out ouer the reule of mesure, in the siyt therof, on the hil Gareb, and it schal cumpasse Goatha,
31:40	and al the valei of careyns, and it schal cumpasse aischis, and al the cuntrei of deth, `til to the stronde of Cedron, and til to the corner of the eest yate of horsis; the hooli thing of the Lord schal not be drawun out, and it schal no more be destried with outen ende.

31:10	Heare the worde of the LORDE (o ye Gentiles) preach in the Iles, that lie farre of, and saye: he that hath scatred Israel, shall gather him together agayne, and shall kepe him as a shepherde doth his flocke.
31:11	For the LORDE shall redeme Iacob, and ryd him from the honde of the violent.
31:12	And they shal come, & reioyce vpon the hill of Sion, & shall haue plenteousnes of goodes, which the LORDE shall geue them: Namely, wheate, wyne, oyle, yonge shepe and calues. And their conscience shalbe as a well watred garden, for they shall nomore be hongrie.

31:17	Yee euen thy posterite shall haue consolacion in this (saieth the LORDE) that thy children shall come agayne in to their owne londe.
31:18	Morouer I herde Ephraim, (that was led awaye captyue) complayne on this maner: O LORDE, thou hast correcte me, and thy chastenynge haue I receaued, as an vntamed calfe. Conuerte thou me, and I shalbe conuerted, for thou art my LORDE God.
31:19	Yee as soone as thou turnest me, I shall refourme my self: and when I vnderstonde, I shall smyte vpon my thee. For verely I haue comitted shamefull thinges: O let my youth beare this reprofe and confucion.
31:20	Vpon this complaynte, I thought thus by myself: is not Ephraim my deare sonne? Is he not the childe, with whom I haue had all myrth and pastyme? For sence the tyme that I first comoned with him, I haue him euer in remembraunce: therfore my very herte dryueth me vnto him: gladly and louyngly will I haue mercy vpon him, saieth the LORDE.
31:21	Get the watchmen, prouyde teachers for the: set thine herte vpon the right waie, that thou shuldest walke, and turne agayne: (o thou doughter of Israel,) turne agayne to these cities of thyne.
31:22	How longe wilt thou go astraie, o thou shrekinge doughter? For the LORDE will worke a new thynge vpon earth: A woman shall compasse a man.
31:23	For thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes the God of Israel: It will come therto, that when I haue brought Iuda out of captiuyte, these wordes shalbe herde in ye londe and in his cities: The LORDE, which is the fayre brydegrome of rightuousnesse, make the frutefull, o thou holy hill:
31:24	And there shall dwell Iuda and all hir cities, the shepherdes and hu?bonde men:
31:25	For I shall fede the hongrie soule, and refresh all faynte hertes.
31:26	When I herde this, I came agayne to myself, and mused, like as I had bene waked out of a swete slepe.
31:27	Beholde (saieth the LORDE) the dayes come, that I will sowe the house of Israel and the house of Iuda, with men and with catell.
31:28	Yee it shall come therto, that like as I haue gone aboute in tymes past to rote them out, to scatre them, to breake them downe, to destroye them and chaste them: Euen so will I also go diligently aboute, to buylde them vp agayne, and to plante them, saieth the LORDE.
