| 32:1 | These wordes spake the Lorde vnto Ieremy, in the .x. yeare of Zedekiah king of Iuda: which was the .xviij. yeare of Nabuchodonosor, |
| 32:2 | what tyme as the kyng of Babylons hoost layed seage vnto Ierusalem. But Ieremy the prophet laye bounde in the courte of the preson, which was in the king of Iudas house: |
| 32:3 | where Zedekiah the kyng of Iuda caused hym to be layed, because he had prophecyed of this maner: Thus sayeth the Lorde: Beholde, I wyll delyuer this citye into the handes of the kyng of Babilon, which shall take it. |
| 32:4 | As for Zedekiah the kynge of Iuda: he shall not be able to escape the Chaldees: but surely he shall come into the handes of the kyng of Babylon: which shall speake wt him mouth to mouth: and one of them shall loke another in the face. |
| 32:5 | And Zedekiah shalbe caryed vnto Babylon, and there shall he be, vntyll the tyme that I viset hym, sayth the Lorde. But yf thou takest in hande to fyght agaynst the Chaldees, thou shalt not prospere. |
| 32:6 | And Ieremy sayde: thus hath the Lorde spoken vnto me: |
| 32:7 | Behold, Hananeel the sonne of Selum thyne vncles sonne, shall come vnto the, and requyre the to redeme the lande that lyeth in Anathoth vnto thy selfe: for by reason of kynred it is thy right to redeme it, and to bye it out. |
| 32:8 | And Hananeel myne vncles sonne came to me in the court of the preson, accordynge to the worde of the Lorde, and sayde vnto me: Bye my lande, I praye the, that lieth in Anathoth in the contrey of Beniamin: for by heritage thou haste ryght to loose it oute for thy selfe, therfore redeme it. Then I perceaued that thys was the commaundement of the Lorde, |
| 32:9 | and so I bought the lande from Hananeel of Anathoth, myne vncles sonne, and weied him there the moneye: euen seuen syckles and ten syluer pence. |
| 32:10 | I caused hym also to make me a writing and to seale it: and called recorde therby, and weyed hym there the money vpon the wayghtes. |
| 32:11 | So I toke the euidence with the copye, when it was orderlye sealed and redde ouer, |
| 32:12 | and I gaue the euidence vnto Baruch the sonne of Neriah the sonne of Maasiah in the syght of Hananeel my cosyne, and in the presence of the witnesses, that be named in the euidence: and before all the Iewes that were therby in the courte of the preson: |
| 32:13 | I charged Baruch also before them sayinge: |
| 32:14 | The Lord of hostes the God of Israel commaundeth the, to take thys sealed euydence with the copie: and to laye it in an earthen vessell, that it maye longe continue. |
| 32:15 | For the Lorde of hoostes the God of Israel hath determyned that houses, feldes, and vyneyardes shalbe possessed agayne in this lande. |
| 32:16 | Now when I had deliuered the euidence vnto Baruch the sonne of Neriah, I besought the Lorde, saying: |
| 32:17 | O Lord God, it is thou that hast made heauen and earth with thy greate power and hie arme, and there is nothyng hyd from the. |
| 32:18 | Thou shewest mercy vpon thousandes, thou recompencest the wickednes of the fathers, into the bosome of the children that come after them. |
| 32:19 | Thou art the greate and mightye God, whose name is the Lorde of hoostes: greate in councell, and excellent in worcke. Thyne eyes loke vpon all the wayes of mens chyldren, to reward euery one after his waye: & according to the frutes of his inuencions. |
| 32:20 | Thou haste done greate tokens and wonders in the lande of Egypte, as we se thys daye, vpon the people of Israel and vpon those men: to make thy name greate, as it is come to passe thys daye. |
| 32:21 | Thou hast brought thy people of Israel oute of the land of Egipt, with tokens, with wonders, with a myghtye hande, with a stretched out arme and wt greate terriblenes: |
| 32:22 | and hast geuen them this lande, lyke as thou haddest promysed vnto their fathers. Namely, that thou woldest geue them a lande, that floweth with mylke and honye. |
| 32:23 | Nowe when they came therin, and possessed it, they folowed nott thy voyce, and walcked not in thy lawe, but all that thou commaundedest them to do, that haue they not done, and therfore come all these plages vpon them. |
| 32:24 | Beholde, there are bullworckes made now agaynst the citye, to take it: and it shalbe wonne of the Chaldees that besege it, with swearde, with honger and death, and looke what thou hast spoken, that same shall come vpon them. For lo, all thynges are present vnto the. |
| 32:25 | Yet (saist thou vnto me, O Lorde God) and commaundest me, that I shall loose a pece of lande vnto my selfe, and take witnesses therto: and yet in the meane season the citye is delyuered into the power of the Chaldees. |
| 32:26 | Then came the worde of the Lorde vnto me, sayinge: |
| 32:27 | Beholde, I am the Lorde God of all fleshe, is there eny thynge then to hard for me? |
| 32:28 | Therfore thus saith the Lorde: beholde, I shall delyuer thys citye into the power of the Chaldees, and into the power of Nabuchodonosor the kynge of Babylon, they shall take it in. |
| 32:29 | For the Chaldees shall come, and wynne thys citye, and sett fyer vpon it, and burne it: with the gorgeouse houses, in whose parlers they haue made sacrifyce vnto Baal, and powred drynckofferynges vnto straunge Goddes, to prouoke me vnto wrath. |
| 32:30 | For seyng the chyldren of Israel, and the children of Iuda haue wrought wickednes before me euer from theyr youth vp, what haue they els done, but prouoked me wt the workes of their awne handes? sayth the Lorde. |
| 32:31 | Or, what hath this citye bene elles but a prouoking of my wrath, euer sence the daye that they buylded it, vnto thys houre wherin I cast it out of my sight, |
| 32:32 | because of the great blasphemyes of the children of Israel & Iuda, which they haue done to prouoke me: yee, they, their kynges, their prynces, their prestes, their prophetes, the men of Iuda, and the cytesyns of Ierusalem. |
| 32:33 | When I stode vp early, and taught them and instructed them, they turned their backes to me, and not theyr faces. |
| 32:34 | They wolde not heare, to be refourmed and correct: but set their ydols in the house, that is halowed vnto my name, to defyle it. |
| 32:35 | They haue builded hye places for Baal in the valley of the chyldren of Hennom, to vowe theyr sonnes and daughters vnto Moloch: which I neuer commaunded them: nether came it euer in my thoughte, to make Iuda synne with soch abhominatyon. |
| 32:36 | And nowe therfore, thus hath the Lorde God of Israel spoken, concernynge this cytie, which (as ye youre selues confesse) shalbe delyuered into the hande of the kynge of Babylon, when it is wonne with the swearde, with honger and with pestilence. |
| 32:37 | Beholde, I will gather them together from all landes, wherin I haue scatered them in my wrath in my fearfull and great displeasure: and wyll bring them agayne vnto thys place, where they shall dwell safely. |
| 32:38 | And they shalbe my people, and I wilbe their God. |
| 32:39 | And I wyll geue them one hert and one waye, that they maye feare me all the daies of their lyfe, that they and their chyldren after them maye prospere. |
| 32:40 | And I wyll sett vp an euerlastyng couenaunt with them. Namelye, that I wyll neuer ceasse to do them good, and that I wyll put my feare in their hertes, so that they shall not runne awaye from me. |
| 32:41 | Yee, I will haue a lust and pleasure to do them good, and faythfully to plante them in this lande with my whole hert and with all my soule. |
| 32:42 | For thus sayth the Lorde: lyke as I haue brought all this great plage vpon this people, euen so wyll I also bring vpon them all the good, that I haue promised them. |
| 32:43 | And men shall haue their possessions in this lande, wherof ye saye nowe, that it shall nether be inhabited of people ner of catell: but be deliuered into the handes of the Chaldees. |
| 32:44 | Yee, lande shalbe bought for money, & euidences made therupon, and sealed before witnesses in the countrey of Beniamin, and rounde aboute Ierusalem, in the cities of Iuda, in the cities that are vpon the mountaynes, and in them that lye beneth: yee, and in the cityes that are in the south. For I wyll brynge their presoners hither agayne, sayth the Lorde. |
| 32:1 | The word that was maad of the Lord to Jeremye, in the tenthe yeer of Sedechie, kyng of Juda; thilke is the eiytenthe yeer of Nabugodonosor. |
| 32:2 | Thanne the oost of the kyng of Babiloyne bisegide Jerusalem; and Jeremye, the profete, was closid in the porche of the prisoun, that was in the hous of the kyng of Juda. |
| 32:3 | For whi Sedechie, the kyng of Juda, hadde closid hym, and seide, Whi profesiest thou, seiynge, The Lord seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal yyue this citee in the hond of the kyng of Babyloyne, and he schal take it; and Sedechie, |
| 32:4 | the kyng of Juda, schal not ascape fro the hond of Caldeis, but he schal be bitake in to the hond of the kyng of Babiloyne; and his mouth schal speke with the mouth of hym, and hise iyen schulen se the iyen of hym; |
| 32:5 | and he schal lede Sedechie in to Babiloyne, and he schal be there, til Y visyte hym, seith the Lord; forsothe if ye fiyten ayens Caldeis, ye schulen haue no thing in prosperite? |
| 32:6 | And Jeremye seide, The word of the Lord was maad to me, and seide, Lo! |
| 32:7 | Ananeel, the sone of Sellum, the sone of thi fadris brothir, schal come to thee, and seie, Bi thou to thee my feeld, which is in Anathot; for it bifallith to thee by niy kynrede, that thou bie it. |
| 32:8 | And Ananeel, the sone of my fadris brothir, cam to me, bi the word of the Lord, to the porche of the prisoun, and seide to me, Welde thou my feeld, which is in Anathot, in the lond of Beniamyn; for whi the erytage bifallith to thee, and thou art the next of blood, that thou welde it. Forsothe Y vndirstood, that it was the word of the Lord. |
| 32:9 | And Y bouyte the feeld, which is in Anathot, of Ananeel, the sone of my fadris brothir. And Y paiede to hym siluer, seuene stateris, and ten platis of siluer; |
| 32:10 | and Y wroot in a book, and Y seelide, and Y yaf witnessis. And Y weiede siluer in a balaunce; |
| 32:11 | and Y took the book aseelid of possessioun, and axingis and answerys of the seller and bier, and couenauntis, and seelis withoutforth. |
| 32:12 | And Y yaf the book of possessioun to Baruc, the sone of Neri, sone of Maasie, bifore the iyen of Ananeel, the sone of my fadris brother, and bifore the iyen of witnessis that weren writun in the book of biyng, bifore the iyen of alle Jewis, that saten in the porche of the prisoun. |
| 32:13 | And Y comaundide to Baruc bifore hem, |
| 32:14 | and Y seide, The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Take thou these bookis, this seelid book of biyng, and this book which is opyn, and putte thou tho in an erthen vessel, that tho moun dwelle bi many daies. |
| 32:15 | For whi the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Yit housis, and feeldis, and vynes schulen be weldid in this lond. |
| 32:16 | And Y preiede to the Lord, aftir that Y bitook the book of possessioun to Baruc, the sone of Nery; and Y seide, Alas! |
| 32:17 | alas! alas! Lord God, Lord, thou madist heuene and erthe in thi greet strengthe, and in thin arm stretchid forth; ech word schal not be hard to thee; |
| 32:18 | which doist merci in thousyndis, and yeldist the wickidnesse of fadris in to the bosum of her sones aftir hem. Thou strongeste, greet, myyti, Lord of oostis is name to thee; |
| 32:19 | greet in councel, and vncomprehensible in thouyt, whose iyen ben open on alle the weies of the sones of Adam, that thou yelde to ech aftir hise weies, and aftir the fruyt of hise fyndyngis; |
| 32:20 | which settidist signes and greet woundris in the lond of Egipt, `til to this dai, bothe in Israel and in men; and madist to thee a name, as this dai is. |
| 32:21 | And thou leddist thi puple Israel out of the lond of Egipt, in signes and in greet woundris, and in a strong hond, and in an arm holdun forth, and in greet dreed; and thou yauest to hem this lond, |
| 32:22 | which thou sworist to the fadris of hem, that thou woldist yyue to hem, a lond flowynge with milk and hony. |
| 32:23 | And thei entriden, and hadden it in possessioun; and thei obeieden not to thi vois, and thei yeden not in thi lawe; alle thingis whiche thou comaundidist to hem to do, thei diden not; and alle these yuels bifellen to hem. |
| 32:24 | Lo! strengthis ben bildid ayens the citee, that it be takun, and the citee is youun in to the hondis of Caldeis, and in to the hondis of the kyng of Babiloyne, that fiyten ayens it, of the face of swerd, and of hungur, and of pestilence; and what euer thingis thou spakest, bifellen, as thou thi silf seest. |
| 32:25 | And Lord God, thou seist to me, Bie thou a feeld for siluer, and yyue thou witnessis, whanne the citee is youun in the hondis of Caldeis. |
| 32:26 | And the word of the Lord was maad to Jeremye, and seide, Lo! |
| 32:27 | Y am the Lord God of `al fleisch. Whether ony word schal be hard to me? |
| 32:28 | Therfor the Lord seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal bitake this citee in to the hondis of Caldeis, and in to the hond of the kyng of Babiloyne, and he schal take it. |
| 32:29 | And Caldeis schulen come, and fiyte ayens this citee, and thei schulen brenne it with fier, and thei schulen brenne it, and housis, in whose rooues thei sacrifieden to Baal, and offriden moist sacrifices to alien goddis, to terre me to wraththe. |
| 32:30 | For whi the sones of Israel and the sones of Juda diden yuel contynueli, fro her yonge waxynge age, bifore myn iyen, the sones of Israel, whiche `til to now wraththen me bi the werk of her hondis, seith the Lord. |
| 32:31 | For whi this citee is maad to me in my strong veniaunce and indignacioun, fro the day in which thei bildiden it, `til to this dai, in which it schal be takun awei fro my siyt; |
| 32:32 | for the malice of the sones of Israel, and of the sones of Juda, which thei diden, terrynge me to wrathfulnesse, thei, and the kyngis of hem, the princes of hem, and the prestis, and profetis of hem, the men of Juda, and the dwelleris of Jerusalem. |
| 32:33 | And thei turneden to me the backis, and not the faces, whanne Y tauyte, and enformede hem erli; and thei nolden here, that thei schulden take techyng. |
| 32:34 | And thei settiden her idols in the hous, in which my name is clepid to help, that thei schulden defoule it. |
| 32:35 | And thei bildiden hiy thingis to Baal, that ben in the valei of the sones of Ennon, that thei schulden halewe her sones and her douytris to Moloc, which thing Y comaundide not to hem, nether it stiede in to myn herte, that thei schulden do this abhomynacioun, and brynge Juda in to synne. |
| 32:36 | And now for these thingis, the Lord God of Israel seith these thingis to this citee, of whiche ye seien, that it schal be bitakun in to the hondis of the kyng of Babiloyne, in swerd, and in hungur, and in pestilence, Lo! |
| 32:37 | Y schal gadere hem fro alle londis, to whiche Y castide hem out in my strong veniaunce, and in my wraththe, and in greet indignacioun; and Y schal brynge hem ayen to this place, and Y schal make hem to dwelle tristili. |
| 32:38 | And thei schulen be in to a puple to me, and Y schal be in to God to hem. |
| 32:39 | And Y schal yyue to hem oon herte and o soule, that thei drede me in alle daies, and that it be wel to hem, and to her sones aftir hem. |
| 32:40 | And Y schal smyte to hem a couenaunt euerlastynge, and Y schal not ceese to do wel to hem, and Y schal yyue my drede in the herte of hem, that thei go not awey fro me. |
| 32:41 | And Y schal be glad on hem, whanne Y schal do wel to hem; and Y schal plaunte hem in this lond in treuthe, in al myn herte, and in al my soule. |
| 32:42 | For the Lord seith these thingis, As Y brouyte on this puple al this greet yuel, so Y schal brynge on hem al the good, which Y schal speke to hem. |
| 32:43 | And feeldis schulen be weldid in this lond, of which ye seien, that it is desert, for no man and beeste is left; and it is youun in to the hondis of Caldeis. |
| 32:44 | Feeldis schulen be bouyt for money, and schulen be writun in a book, and a seel schal be preentid; and witnessis schulen be youun, in the lond of Beniamyn, and in the cumpas of Jerusalem, and in the citees of Juda, and in the citees in hilli places, and in the citees in feeldi places, and in the citees that ben at the south; for Y schal turne the caitiftee of hem, seith the Lord. |
| 32:1 | These wordes spake the LORDE vnto Ieremy, in the tenth yeare of Sedechias kinge of Iuda, which was ye xviij yeare of Nabuchodonosor, |
| 32:2 | what tyme as the kinge of Babilons hooste layed sege vnto Ierusalem. But Ieremy the prophet laye bounde in ye courte of the preson, which was in the kinge of Iudaes house: |
| 32:3 | where Sedechias the kinge of Iuda caused him to be layed, because he had prophecied of this maner: Thus saieth the LORDE: Beholde, I will delyuer this cite in to the hondes of the kinge of Babilon, which shal take it. |
| 32:4 | As for Sedechias the kinge of Iuda, he shal not be able to escape the Caldees, but surely he shall come in to the hondes of the kinge of Babilon: which shall speake with him mouth to mouth, and one of them shall loke another in the face. |
| 32:5 | And Sedechias shalbe caried vnto Babilon, and there shall he be, vntill the tyme that I vyset him, saieth the LORDE. But yf thou takest in hode to fight agaynst the Caldees, thou shalt not prospere. |
| 32:6 | And Ieremy sayde: Thus hath the LORDE spoken vnto me: |
| 32:7 | Beholde, Hananeel the sonne of Sellum thine Vncles sonne shall come vnto the, and requyre the to redeme ye londe, that lieth in Anathot vnto thy self: for by reason of kynred it is thy parte to redeme it, and to bye it out. |
| 32:8 | And so Hananeel myne Vncles sonne came to me in the courte of the preson, (acordinge to the worde of the LORDE,) and sayde vnto me: Bye my londe (I praye the) that lieth in Anothot in the countre of Ben Iamyn: for by heretage thou hast right to lowse it out for thy self, therfore redeme it. Then I preceaued, that this was the commaundement of the LORDE, |
| 32:9 | and so I lowsed the londe from Hananeel of Anathot, myne Vncles sonne, and weyed him there the moneye: euen seuen sycles, and ten syluer pens. |
| 32:10 | I caused him also to make me a writinge, and to seale it, and called recorde there by, and weyed him there the money vpon the waightes. |
| 32:11 | So I toke the euydence with the copie (when it was orderly sealed and red ouer) |
| 32:12 | and I gaue the euydence vnto Baruch the sonne of Nerias the sonne of Maasia in the sight of Hananeel my cosen, and in the presence of the witnesses, that be named in the euydence, and before all the Iewes that were therby in the courte of the preson. |
| 32:13 | I charged Baruch also before them, saienge: |
| 32:14 | The LORDE of hoostes the God of Israel commaundeth the, to take this sealed euydence with the copie, and to laye it in an erthen vessell, that it maye longe continue. |
| 32:15 | For the LORDE of hoostes of the God of Israel hath determed, that houses, feldes and vynyardes shalbe possessed agayne in this londe. |
| 32:16 | Now when I had delyuered the euydence vnto Baruch ye sonne of Nerias, I besought the LORDE, sayenge: |
| 32:17 | O LORDE God, It is thou that hast made heauen and earth with thy greate power and hie arme, and there is nothinge to harde for ye. |
| 32:18 | Thou shewest mercy vpon thousandes, thou recompecest the wickednes of the fathers, in to the besome of the children that come after them. |
| 32:19 | Thou art the greate and mightie God, whose name is the LORDE of hoostes: greate in councell, and infinite in thought: Thine eyes loke vpon all the wayes of mens children, to rewarde euery one after his waye, and acordinge to the frutes of his inuencions: |
| 32:20 | Thou hast done greate tokens and wonders in the londe of Egipte (as we se this daye) vpon the people of Israel and vpon those men: to make thy name greate, as it is come to passe this daye: |
| 32:21 | Thou hast brought thy people of Israel out of the londe of Egipte, with tokens, with wondres, with a mightie honde, with a stretched out arme and with greate terriblenes: |
| 32:22 | and hast geuen them this londe, like as thou haddest promysed vnto their fathers: Namely, that thou woldest geue them a lode, that floweth with mylke and honye. |
| 32:23 | Now when they came therin, and possessed it, they folowed not thy voyce, and walked not in thy lawe: but all that thou commaundedest them to do, that haue they not done, and therfore come all these plages vpon them. |
| 32:24 | Beholde, there are bulworckes made now agaynst the cite, to take it: and it shalbe wonne of the Caldees that besege it, with swearde, with honger and death, and loke what thou hast spoken, that same shal come vpon them. For lo, all thinges are present vnto the: |
| 32:25 | Yet sayest thou vnto me (o LORDE God) and commaundest me, that I shall loose a pece of londe vnto my self, and take witnesses therto: and yet in the meane season the cite is delyuered in to the power of the Caldees. |
| 32:26 | Then came the worde of the LORDE vnto me, sayenge: |
| 32:27 | Beholde, I am the LORDE God of all flesh, Is there eny thinge then to harde for me? |
| 32:28 | Therfore thus sayde the LORDE: beholde, I shal delyuer this cite in to the power of the Caldees, and in to the power of Nabuchodonosor the kinge of Babilon, they shall take it in: |
| 32:29 | For the Caldees shall come, and wynne this cite, and set fyre vpon it, and burne it: with the gorgeous houses, in whose parlers they haue made sacrifice vnto Baal, and poured drynkeofferinges vnto straunge goddes, to prouoke me vnto wrath. |
| 32:30 | For seinge the children of Israel and the children of Iuda haue wrought wickednes before me euer from their youth vp, what haue they els done, but prouoked me with the workes of their owne hondes? saieth the LORDE. |
| 32:31 | Or, what hath this cite bene els, but a prouokinge of my wrath, euer sence the daye that I buylded it, vnto this houre? Wherin I cast it out of my sight, |
| 32:32 | be cause of the greate blasphemies of the childre of Israel and Iuda, which they haue done to prouoke me: yee they, their kinges, their prynces, their prestes, their prophetes, whole Iuda, and all the citesyns of Ierusalem. |
| 32:33 | When I stode vp early, and taught them and instructe them, they turned their backes to me, and not their faces. |
| 32:34 | They wolde not heare, to be refourmed and correcte. They hane set their goddes in ye house, that is halowed vnto my name, to defyle it. |
| 32:35 | They haue buylded hie places for Baal in the valley of the children of Ennon, to vowe their sonnes and doughters vnto Moloch: which I neuer commauded them, nether came it euer in my thought, to make Iuda synne with soch abhominacion. |
| 32:36 | Morouer thus hath the LORDE God of Israel spoken, concernynge this cite, which (as ye youre selues confesse) shalbe delyuered in to the honde of the kinge of Babilon, when it is wonne with the swerde, with honger and with pestilence. |
| 32:37 | Beholde, I will gather them together from all londes, wherin I haue scatred them in my wrath, in my fearfull and greate displeasure: and will bringe them agayne vnto this place, where they shal dwell safely. |
| 32:38 | And they shalbe my people, and I wilbe their God. |
| 32:39 | And I will geue them one herte and one waye, that they maye feare me all the daies of their life, that they and their children after them maye prospere. |
| 32:40 | And I will set vp an euerlastinge couenaunt with them, Namely: that I will neuer ceasse to do them good, and that I will put my feare in their hertes, so that they shall not runne awaye fro me. |
| 32:41 | Yee I will haue a lust and pleasure to do them good, and faithfully to plante them in this londe, with my whole herte, and with all my soule. |
| 32:42 | For thus saieth the LORDE: like as I haue brought all this greate plage vpon this people: so will I also bringe vpon them all the good, that I haue promysed them |
| 32:43 | And men shall haue their possessions in this londe, wherof ye saye now, that it shal nether be inhabited of people ner of catell, but be deliuered in to the hodes of the Caldees: |
| 32:44 | Yee londe shalbe bought for money, & euydeces made ther vpon & sealed before witnesses in the countre of Ben Iamin, & rounde aboute Ierusalem: in the cities of Iuda, in the cities that are vpo the mountaynes, & in them that lie beneth, yee & in the cities that are in the deserte. For I wil bringe their presoners hither agayne, saieth the LORDE. |
