Jeremiah - Chapter: 48


48:1	Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.
48:2	There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
48:3	A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction.
48:4	Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
48:5	For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.
48:6	Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness.
48:7	For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.
48:8	And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken.
48:9	Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be desolate, without any to dwell therein.
48:10	Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
48:11	Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.
48:12	Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.
48:13	And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
48:14	How say ye, We are mighty and strong men for the war?
48:15	Moab is spoiled, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.
48:16	The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.
48:17	All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!
48:18	Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds.
48:19	O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?
48:20	Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: howl and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled,
48:21	And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath,
48:22	And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Bethdiblathaim,
48:23	And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Bethgamul, and upon Bethmeon,
48:24	And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near.
48:25	The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD.
48:26	Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.
48:27	For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.
48:28	O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole's mouth.
48:29	We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.
48:30	I know his wrath, saith the LORD; but it shall not be so; his lies shall not so effect it.
48:31	Therefore will I howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; mine heart shall mourn for the men of Kirheres.
48:32	O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage.
48:33	And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting.
48:34	From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.
48:35	Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
48:36	Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kirheres: because the riches that he hath gotten are perished.
48:37	For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.
48:38	There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD.
48:39	They shall howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
48:40	For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab.
48:41	Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men's hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
48:42	And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD.
48:43	Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.
48:44	He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.
48:45	They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.
48:46	Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.
48:47	Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.


48:1	To Moab the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis. Wo on Nabo, for it is destried, and schent; Cariathiarym is takun, the stronge citee is schent, and tremblide.
48:2	And ful out ioiyng is no more in Moab, thei thouyten yuel ayens Esebon. Come ye, and leese we it fro folk. Therfor thou beynge stille, schalt be stille, and swerd schal sue thee.
48:3	A vois of cry fro Oronaym, distriynge, and greet sorewe.
48:4	Moab is defoulid, telle ye cry to litil children therof.
48:5	For a man wepynge stiede with wepyng bi the stiyng of Luyth, for in the comyng doun of Oronaym enemyes herden the yellyng of sorewe.
48:6	Fle ye, saue ye youre lyues; and ye schulen be as bromes in desert.
48:7	For that that thou haddist trist in thi strengthis, and in thi tresouris, also thou schalt be takun. And Chamos schal go in to passyng ouer, the preestis therof and the princes therof togidere.
48:8	And a robbere schal come to ech citee, and no citee schal be sauyd; and valeis schulen perische, and feeldi places schulen be distried, for the Lord seide.
48:9	Yyue ye the flour of Moab, for it schal go out flourynge; and the citees therof schulen be forsakun, and vnhabitable.
48:10	He is cursid, that doith the werk of God gilefuli; and he is cursid, that forbedith his swerd fro blood.
48:11	Moab was plenteuouse fro his yong wexynge age, and restide in hise drastis, nether was sched out fro vessel in to vessel, and yede not in to passyng ouer; therfor his taaste dwellide in hym, and his odour is not chaungid.
48:12	Therfor lo! daies comun, seith the Lord, and Y schal sende to it ordeynours, and arayeris of potels; and thei schulen araye it, and thei schulen waste the vessels therof, and hurtle togidere the potels of hem.
48:13	And Moab schal be schent of Chamos, as the hous of Israel was schent of Bethel, in which it hadde trist.
48:14	Hou seien ye, We ben stronge, and stalworthe men to fiyte?
48:15	Moab is distried, and thei han brent the citees therof, and the chosun yonge men therof yeden doun in to sleynge, seith the kyng, the Lord of oostis is his name.
48:16	The perischyng of Moab is nyy, that it come, and the yuel therof renneth ful swiftli.
48:17	Alle ye that ben in the cumpas therof, coumforte it; and alle ye that knowen the name therof, seie, Hou is the stronge yerde brokun, the gloriouse staaf?
48:18	Thou dwellyng of the douytir of Dibon, go doun fro glorie, sitte thou in thirst; for the distriere of Moab schal stie to thee, and he schal destrie thi strengthis.
48:19	Thou dwellyng of Aroer, stonde in the weie, and biholde; axe thou hym that fleeth, and hym that ascapide; seie thou, What bifelle?
48:20	Moab is schent, for he is ouercomun; yelle ye, and crye; telle ye in Arnon, that Moab is destried.
48:21	And doom is comun to the lond of the feeld, on Elon, and on Jesa, and on Mephat, and on Dibon,
48:22	and on Nabo, and on the hous of Debalthaym,
48:23	and on Cariathiarym, and on Bethgamul, and on Bethmaon, and on Scarioth,
48:24	and on Bosra, and on alle the citees of the lond of Moab, that ben fer, and that ben niy.
48:25	The horn of Moab is kit awei, and the arm therof is al to-brokun, seith the Lord.
48:26	Fille ye him greetli, for he is reisid ayens the Lord; and he schal hurtle doun the hond of Moab in his spuyng, and he also schal be in to scorn.
48:27	For whi, Israel, he was in to scorn to thee, as if thou haddist founde hym among theues; therfor for thi wordis whiche thou spakist ayens hym, thou schalt be led prisoner.
48:28	Ye dwelleris of Moab, forsake citees, and dwelle in the stoon, and be ye as a culuer makynge nest in the hiyeste mouth of an hool.
48:29	We han herd the pride of Moab; he is ful proud.
48:30	Y knowe, seith the Lord, the hiynesse therof, and pride in word, and pride in beryng, and the hiynesse of herte, and the boost therof, and that the vertu therof is not niy, ethir lijk it, nethir it enforside to do bi that that it miyte.
48:31	Therfor Y schal weile on Moab, and Y schal crie to al Moab, to the men of the erthene wal, that weilen.
48:32	Of the weilyng of Jaser Y schal wepe to thee, thou vyner of Sabama; thi siouns passiden the see, tho camen `til to the see of Jazer; a robbere felle in on thi ripe corn, and on thi vyndage.
48:33	Ful out ioye and gladnesse is takun awei fro Carmele, and fro the lond of Moab, and Y haue take awei wyn fro pressouris; a stampere of grape schal not synge a customable myri song.
48:34	Of the cry of Esebon `til to Eleale and Jesa thei yauen her vois, fro Segor `til to Oronaym a cow calf of thre yeer; forsothe the watris of Nemrym schulen be ful yuele.
48:35	And Y schal take awei fro Moab, seith the Lord, him that offrith in hiy places, and him that makith sacrifice to the goddis therof.
48:36	Therfor myn herte schal sowne as a pipe of bras to Moab, and myn herte schal yyue sown of pipis to the men of the erthene wal; for it dide more than it myyte, therfor thei perischiden.
48:37	For whi ech heed schal be ballidnesse, and ech beerd schal be schauun; in alle hondis schal be bindyng togidere, and an heir schal be on ech bak.
48:38	And al weilyng schal be on alle the roouys of Moab, and in the stretis therof, for Y haue al to-broke Moab as an vnprofitable vessel, seith the Lord.
48:39	Hou is it ouercomun, and thei yelliden? hou hath Moab cast doun the nol, and is schent? And Moab schal be in to scorn, and in to ensaumple to alle men in his cumpas.
48:40	The Lord seith these thingis, Lo! as an egle he schal fle out, and he schal stretche forth hise wyngis to Moab.
48:41	Carioth is takun, and stronge holdis ben takun; and the herte of stronge men of Moab schal be in that dai, as the herte of a womman trauelynge of child.
48:42	And Moab schal ceesse to be a puple, for it hadde glorie ayens the Lord.
48:43	Drede, and diche, and snare is on thee, thou dwellere of Moab, seith the Lord.
48:44	He that fleeth fro the face of drede, schal falle in to a diche; and thei that stien fro the dyche, schulen be takun with a snare. For Y schal brynge on Moab the yeer of the visitacioun of hem, seith the Lord.
48:45	Men fleynge fro the snare stoden in the schadewe of Esebon, for whi fier yede out of Esebon, and flawme fro the myddis of Seon; and deuouride a part of Moab, and the cop of the sones of noise.
48:46	Moab, wo to thee; thou puple of Chamos, hast perischid, for whi thi sones and thi douytris ben takun in to caitiftee.
48:47	And Y schal conuerte the caitiftee of Moab in the laste daies, seith the Lord. Hidur to ben the domes of Moab.


48:1	Thus sayeth the Lorde of hoostes the God of Israel agaynst Moab: wo be to the cytie of Nebo: for it is layed wast, brought to confusion: and Kariathiarim taken, Misgab is brought to shame and afrayed:
48:2	Moab can boast nomore of Hesebon: for they haue deuysed against it. Come, shall they saye, let vs rote them out, that they maye be nomore amonge the nomber of the Gentiles, and that thou Madmen maye nomore be thought vpon: and the swearde shall persecute the.
48:3	A voyce shall crye from Horanaim: With greate wastynge and destruccyon
48:4	is Moab made desolate. Chyldren coulde tell of the crye therof.
48:5	For at the goynge vp vnto Luyth, he arose with lamentation and mournynge, and downe towarde Horonaim, they heard a cruell and a deedly crye.
48:6	Get you awaye, saue your lyues, and be lyke vnto the heeth in the wildernesse.
48:7	For because thou hast trusted in thine owne workes and treasure, thou shalt be taken. Chamos with his prestes and princes shall go awaye into captiuyte.
48:8	The destroyer shall come vpon all cyties none shall escape. The valleys shalbe destroyed, and the feldes shalbe layed waste, lyke as the Lorde hath spoken.
48:9	Geue wynges vnto Moab, that she get her awaye spedely: for her cyties shalbe made so desolate, that no man shall dwell therin.
48:10	Cursed be he that doth the worcke of the Lorde negligently, and cursed be he that kepeth backe his swearde from sheddynge of bloude.
48:11	Moab hath euer bene ryche and carelesse from her youth vp, she hath sytten and taken her ease with her treasure. She was neuer yet put out of one vessell into another (that is) she neuer wente awaye into captiuyte, therfore her taste remayneth, and her sauour is not yet chaunged.
48:12	But lo, the tyme commeth, sayth the Lord, that I shall sende her trussers to trusse her vp: which shall remoue her from her dwellynge: and to emptye her vessels, and breake her wyne pottes.
48:13	And Moab shalbe ashamed of Chamos, lyke as Israel was ashamed of Bethel, wherin she put her trust
48:14	Wherfore do ye thynke thus: we are myghtye and stronge men of warre?
48:15	Moab is destroyed, and her cyties brent vp: her chosen yonge men be slayne, sayth the kyng, whose name is the Lorde of hostes.
48:16	The destruccyon of Moab commeth on apace, and her fall is at hande.
48:17	All her neyghbours shall mourne for her, and all they that know her name shall saye, O howe happeneth it, that the stronge stafe and the goodly rodde is thus broken?
48:18	And thou daughter Dibon, come downe from thy glory, & syt in thyrst. For he that destroyeth Moab, shall come vp to the also, and breake downe thy stronge holde.
48:19	And thou that dwellest in Aroer, get the to the strete, and loke aboute the: aske them that are fledd and escaped, and saye: what thinge is happened?
48:20	Oh, Moab is confounded and ouercome. Mourne and crye, tell it out at Arnon, that Moab is destroyed.
48:21	For iudgment shall come vpon the playne lande: Namely, vpon Holon, and Iahazah, vpon Mephaath
48:22	and Dibon, vpon Nabo and the house of Deblathaim,
48:23	vpon Cariathiarim and vpon the house Gamul, vpon the house Maon
48:24	and Carioth vpon Bozrah and all the cyties in the lande of Moab, whether they lye farre or neare.
48:25	The horne of Moab is smyten downe and her arme broken, sayth the Lorde.
48:26	Make her dronken, for she magnifyed her selfe aboue the Lorde, that men maye clappe theyr handes at her vomyte, and that she also maye be laughed to scorne.
48:27	O Israel, shalte thou not laugh him to scorne, when he is taken amonge theues. Yee, because of thy wordes that thou hast spoken agaynste hym, thou shalt be dryuen awaye.
48:28	Ye Moabites shall leaue the cyties, and dwell in rockes of stone, and become lyke doues, that make theyr nestes in holes.
48:29	As for Moabs pryde, we haue hearde of it: she is verye hye mynded. I knowe her stoutnes, her boastynge, her arogancye, and the pryde of her stomack, sayth the Lorde.
48:30	I knowe (sayeth the Lorde) her indignacyon, she doth not ryght, her wordes are lyes, and they haue not delt truly.
48:31	Therfore shal ther mourning be made for Moab, and euery man shall crye for Moabs sake: a lamentatyon shalbe made to the men that stande vpon the wall.
48:32	So will I mourne for the also, O Iazer and for the, O thou vineyarde of Sabamah. Thy vyne braunches shall come ouer the see, and the braunches of Iazer but vnto the see: the destroyer shall breake into thy haruest and grape gathering:
48:33	myrth and cheare shalbe taken awaye from the tymbre felde, and from the whole lande of Moab. There shalbe no swete wyne in the presse, the treader shall haue no stomacke to crye yee, ther shalbe none to crie vnto him:
48:34	which afore tyme were heard from Hesebon to Eleale and Iahaz, which lifted vp their voyce from Zoar vnto Horonaim, that bullocke of thre yeare olde shall go mourning. The waters also of Memrim shalbe dryed vp.
48:35	Moreouer, I will make Moab cease, sayeth the Lord, from the offeringes and censing that, she hath made vnto her goddes in hie places.
48:36	Wherfore my hert mourneth for Moab, lyke a crowde playenge an heuy songe: and for the mennes sake of the brycke wall my herte mourneth also: euen as a pype that pypeth a dolefull songe: for they shalbe very feawe, and destroyed.
48:37	All heades shalbe shauen, and all beerdes clipped of: all handes bounde, and loynes girded about with sacke cloth.
48:38	Upon all the house toppes and stretes of Moab, ther shall be lamentable mourning. For I wyll breake Moab lyke an vnprofytable vessell, sayth the Lorde.
48:39	O howe is she destroyed? O howe mourneth she? O howe doeth Moab hange downe her heade, & is ashamed? Thus shall Moab be a laughing stock: & had in derision of all them that be rounde aboute her.
48:40	For thus sayth the Lorde. Beholde, the enemye shall come flieng as an aegle: & sprede hys winges vpon Moab.
48:41	They shall clyme ouer the walles, & wynne the strongholdes. Then the mighty mens hertes in Moab shalbe lyke the hert of a woman trauelyng with chylde.
48:42	And Moab shalbe made so desolate: that she shal nomore be a people, because she hath sett vp her selfe agaynst the Lorde.
48:43	Feare, pytt & snare shall come vpon the, O Moab, sayeth the Lorde.
48:44	Whoso escapeth the feare, shall fall in the pytte: and who so getteth out of the pyt, shalbe taken in the snare. For I will bring a yeare of visitation vpon Moab, sayth the Lorde.
48:45	They that are able to flye, shall stande vnder the shadowe of Hesebon. For there shall go a fier out of Hesebon, and a flame from Sion, and shall burne vp that proude people of Moab, and the toppe of those sedityous chyldren.
48:46	Wo be vnto the, O Moab, for thou people of Chamos shalt peryshe. Yee, thy sonnes and daughters shalbe leade awaye captiue.
48:47	Yet at the laste wyll I brynge Moab out of captiuite agayne, sayeth the Lorde. Thus farre is of the plage of Moab.
