Lamentations - Chapter: 5

>
5:1Remember, O Jehovah, what hath befallen us, Look attentively, and see our reproach.
5:2Our inheritance hath been turned to strangers, Our houses to foreigners.
5:3Orphans we have been -- without a father, our mothers `are' as widows.
5:4Our water for money we have drunk, Our wood for a price doth come.
5:5For our neck we have been pursued, We have laboured -- there hath been no rest for us.
5:6`To' Egypt we have given a hand, `To' Asshur, to be satisfied with bread.
5:7Our fathers have sinned -- they are not, We their iniquities have borne.
5:8Servants have ruled over us, A deliverer there is none from their hand.
5:9With our lives we bring in our bread, Because of the sword of the wilderness.
5:10Our skin as an oven hath been burning, Because of the raging of the famine.
5:11Wives in Zion they have humbled, Virgins -- in cities of Judah.
5:12Princes by their hand have been hanged, The faces of elders have not been honoured.
5:13Young men to grind they have taken, And youths with wood have stumbled.
5:14The aged from the gate have ceased, Young men from their song.
5:15Ceased hath the joy of our heart, Turned to mourning hath been our dancing.
5:16Fallen hath the crown `from' our head, Wo `is' now to us, for we have sinned.
5:17For this hath our heart been sick, For these have our eyes been dim.
5:18For the mount of Zion -- that is desolate, Foxes have gone up on it.
5:19Thou, O Jehovah, to the age remainest, Thy throne to generation and generation.
5:20Why for ever dost Thou forget us? Thou forsakest us for length of days!
5:21Turn us back, O Jehovah, unto Thee, And we turn back, renew our days as of old.
5:22For hast Thou utterly rejected us? Thou hast been wroth against us -- exceedingly?

5:1Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.
5:2Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.
5:3We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.
5:4We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us.
5:5Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.
5:6We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.
5:7Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.
5:8Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.
5:9We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.
5:10Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.
5:11They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.
5:12Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.
5:13They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.
5:14The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.
5:15The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
5:16The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
5:17For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.
5:18Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.
5:19Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.
5:20Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?
5:21Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
5:22But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.

5:1O Jehovah, remember what has been to us; look upon and see our shame.
5:2Our inheritance has been turned to aliens, our houses to foreigners.
5:3We are orphans. There is no father; our mothers are like widows.
5:4We have drunk our water for silver; our wood comes for a price.
5:5We are pursued; we grow weary; rest is not given to us.
5:6We have given the hand to the Egyptians, to the Assyrian, in order to be satisfied with bread.
5:7Our fathers have sinned, and we are not; we have borne their iniquities.
5:8Slaves rule over us; there is no rescuer from their hand.
5:9We bring in our bread with our souls, from the face of the sword of the wilderness.
5:10Our skin is burned black like an oven, because of the fever heat of famine.
5:11They raped the women in Zion, virgins in the cities of Judah.
5:12Rulers were hanged by their hands; the faces of the elders were not honored.
5:13They lifted the young men to the hand mill, and the youths stumbled at the wood.
5:14The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their music.
5:15The joy of our heart has ceased; our dance has turned to mourning.
5:16The crown has fallen from our head. Woe now to us, for we have sinned!
5:17For this our heart is faint; our eyes are dim for these things .
5:18Zion is laid waste on the mountain; foxes walk about on it.
5:19O Jehovah, You remain forever; Your throne to generation and generation.
5:20Why do You forget us forever, forsake us the length of days?
5:21Return us to You, O Jehovah, and we shall return. Renew our days as of old,
5:22unless You have utterly rejected us; You are exceedingly angry against us.
