6:1	Gegymeð þæt ge ne don eowre riht-wisnysse before mannum. þæt ge syen geherede fram heom. Elles næbbe ge mede mid eowre fædere þe on heofene ys.
6:2	Eornestlice þanne þu þine ælmessen sylle. ne blawe man Note: MS. man, wrongly alt. to nan. beman beforan þe. swa liceteras doð on gesomnungen & on wicen þæt hyo sye ge-arwurðode fram mannen. Soð ich segge eow. hyo on-fengen heora mede.
6:3	Soðlice þonne þu þine ælmesse do. nete þin wynstre hwæt do þin swiðre.
6:4	þæt þin ælmesse syo on diglen. & þin fæder hyt ägëlt þe. se þe sihð on dyglen.
6:5	And þanne ge eow gebyddon ne by ge swilce liceteras. þa lufiað þæt hy gebiddan hyo standende on samnunge. & strate hyrnan. þæt men hyo geseon. Soð ich segge eow. hyo onfengen heore mede.
6:6	Þu soðlice þonne þu þe bidde. gang in-to þinen hel-clyfen. & þinre dure belocenre. bide þinne fader on diglen. & þin fæder þe sihð on dyglen hyt agylt þe.
6:7	Soðlice þanne ge eow gebiddan. nelle ge spreken fela swa swa hæðene. Hyo wenað þæt hyo syen geherda on heora manifealde spræce.
6:8	Nelle ge ornestlyce heom ge-efenlæchen. Soðlice eower fæder wat hwæt eow þarf ys. ær þan þe ge hine byddað.
6:9	Eornestlice gebiddað eow þus. Fader ure þu þe ert on heofene. sye þin name gehalged.
6:10	to-becume þin rice. Gewurðe þin gewille. on eorðan swa swa on heofenan.
6:11	ure dayghwamlice hlaf syle us to dayg.
6:12	& forgyf us ure geltas swa swa we forgyfeð ure geltenden.
6:13	& ne læd þu us on costnunge. ac ales us of yfele soðlice.
6:14	Witodlice gyf ge forgyfeð mannan heora synnan. þonne forgyfeð eowre se heofenlice fæder eow eowre geltes.
6:15	Gyf ge soðlice ne for-gyfeð mannen. ne owre fæder ne for-gyfeð eow owre synna.
6:16	Soðlice þanne ge fæsten. nellen ge wesan swilce lease licceres. hyo fornymeð hyre ansiene. þæt hyo æteowun mannen fæstende. Soðlice ic segge eow þæt hyo onfengen heore mede.
6:17	Þu soðlice þanne þu fæste smere þin heafeð. & þweah þine ansiene.
6:18	þæt þu ne sy gesewen fram mannen fæstende. ac þinen fæder þe is on dyglen. & þin fæder þe sihð on dyglen. hyt agelt þe.
6:19	Nellen ge goldhordian eow on eorðan goldhordas. þær öm & mohþe hit fornymð. & þær þeofes hit delfeð & for-steleð.
6:20	Gold-hordiað eow soðlice gold-hordes on heofenan. þær naþer öm ne mohðe hyt ne fornymð. & þær þeofes hit ne delfað ne ne forsteleð.
6:21	Witoðlice þær þin gold-hord ys. þær is þin heorte.
6:22	Þines lichamen leoht-fæt is þin eage. gyf þin eage beoð an-feald. eall þin lic-hame beoð breost (sic).
6:23	Gyf þin eage soðlice beoð manful. eall þin lichame beoð þeosterful. Eornestlice gyf þæt leoht þe on þe ys synd þeostre. hu mycele beoð þa þeostre.
6:24	Note: Nemo potest duobus dominis seruire. R. Ne mayg nam man twam hlaferden þeowian. oððe he soðliche ænne hateð. & oþerne lufað. oððe he beoð anen gehersum. & oðren ungehersum. Ne magen ge gode þeowian & weorld-weolan.
6:25	For-þan ich segge eow ðæt ge ne syon emb-hydige eowre sawle hwæt ge eton. ne eower lic-haman mid hwam ge syon emb-scridde. Hu nys syo sawul selre þanne mete. & eower lic-hame betere þanne þæt reaf.
6:26	Behealded heofenen fugelas. for-þan þe hyo ne saweð. ne hyo ne ripað. ne hyo ne gaderiað on berne. & eowre heofenlice fæder hyo fët. Hu ne synde ge selre þanne hyo.
6:27	hwilc eower maig soðlice þencen þæt he ge-eacnige enne elne to his anlichnysse.
6:28	& to hwi synde ge ymbhydige be reafe. Bescewiað ækeres lilian hu hye wexað. ne swincað hyo. ne hyo ne spinneð.
6:29	Ic segge eow soðlice. þæt for-þan salomon on eallen hys wuldre næs ofer-wrigen swa swa an of þisen.
6:30	Soðlice gyf akeres weod þæt þe to daig ys. & beoð to morgen on ofen asend. god swa scrit. eale ge ge-hwædes ge-leafen. þam mycele ma he scryt eow.
6:31	Nelle ge eornestlice beon embhydige. þus cweðende. hwæt ete we. oððe hwæt drinke we. oððe mid hwan beo we ofer-wrogene.
6:32	Soðlice ealle þas þing þeode secheð. Witodlice eower fader wat þæt ge eallen þisen þinge be-þurfen.
6:33	Eornestlice secheð ærest godes riche. & hys rihtwysnesse. & ealle þas þing eow beoð þær-to ge-eacnode.
6:34	Ne beo ge na hugiende emb þa morgendliche neode. Soðlice se morgenliche dayg chareð embe hine selfne. Aighwilc daig hafð genoh on his eagen embhugan.


6:1	Take heede that ye giue not your almes before men, to be seene of them, or els ye shall haue no reward of your Father which is in heaue.
6:2	Therefore when thou giuest thine almes, thou shalt not make a trumpet to be blowen before thee, as the hypocrites doe in the Synagogues and in the streetes, to be praysed of men. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde.
6:3	But when thou doest thine almes, let not thy left hand knowe what thy right hand doeth,
6:4	That thine almes may be in secret, and thy Father that seeth in secret, hee will rewarde thee openly.
6:5	And when thou prayest, be not as the hypocrites: for they loue to stand, and pray in the Synagogues, and in the corners of the streetes, because they would be seene of men. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde.
6:6	But when thou prayest, enter into thy chamber and when thou hast shut thy doore, pray vnto thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret, shall rewarde thee openly.
6:7	Also when ye pray, vse no vaine repetitions as the Heathen: for they thinke to be heard for their much babbling.
6:8	Be ye not like them therefore: for your Father knoweth whereof ye haue neede, before ye aske of him.
6:9	After this maner therefore pray ye, Our father which art in heauen, halowed be thy name.
6:10	Thy Kingdome come. Thy will be done euen in earth, as it is in heauen.
6:11	Giue vs this day our dayly bread.
6:12	And forgiue vs our dettes, as we also forgiue our detters.
6:13	And leade vs not into tentation, but deliuer vs from euill: for thine is the kingdome, and the power, and the glorie for euer. Amen.
6:14	For if ye doe forgiue men their trespasses, your heauenly Father will also forgiue you.
6:15	But if ye do not forgiue men their trespasses,, no more will your father forgiue you your trespaces.
6:16	Moreouer, when ye fast, looke not sowre as the hypocrites: for they disfigure their faces, that they might seeme vnto men to fast. Verely I say vnto you, that they haue their rewarde.
6:17	But when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face,
6:18	That thou seeme not vnto men to fast, but vnto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret, will rewarde thee openly.
6:19	Lay not vp treasures for your selues vpon the earth, where the mothe and canker corrupt, and where theeues digge through and steale.
6:20	But lay vp treasures for your selues in heauen, where neither the mothe nor canker corrupteth, and where theeues neither digge through, nor steale.
6:21	For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
6:22	The light of the body is the eye: if then thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be light.
6:23	But if thine eye be wicked, then all thy body shalbe darke. Wherefore if the light that is in thee, be darkenes, howe great is that darkenesse?
6:24	No man can serue two masters: for eyther he shall hate the one, and loue the other, or els he shall leane to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serue God and riches.
6:25	Therefore I say vnto you, be not carefull for your life, what ye shall eate, or what ye shall drinke: nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more worth then meate? and the bodie then raiment?
6:26	Behold the foules of the heauen: for they sowe not, neither reape, nor carie into the barnes: yet your heauenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better then they?
6:27	Which of you by taking care is able to adde one cubite vnto his stature?
6:28	And why care ye for raiment? Learne howe the lilies of the fielde doe growe: they are not wearied, neither spinne:
6:29	Yet I say vnto you, that euen Salomon in all his glorie was not arayed like one of these.
6:30	Wherefore if God so clothe the grasse of the fielde which is to day, and to morowe is cast into the ouen, shall he not doe much more vnto you, O ye of litle faith?
6:31	Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eate? or what shall we drinke? or where with shall we be clothed?
6:32	(For after all these things seeke the Gentiles) for your heauenly Father knoweth, that ye haue neede of all these things.
6:33	But seeke ye first the kingdome of God, and his righteousnesse, and all these things shall be ministred vnto you.
6:34	Care not then for the morowe: for the morowe shall care for it selfe: the day hath ynough with his owne griefe.


6:1	Take hede to youre almes. That ye geve it not in the syght of men to the intent that ye wolde be sene of them. Or els ye get no rewarde of youre father which is in heve.
6:2	Whe soever therfore thou gevest thine almes thou shalt not make a tropet to be blowe before the as ye ypocrites do in the synagogis and in the stretis for to be preysed of men. Verely I say vnto you they have their rewarde.
6:3	But whe thou doest thine almes let not thy lyfte had knowe what thy righte had doth
6:4	yt thine almes may be secret: and thy father which seith in secret shall rewarde ye opely.
6:5	And when thou prayest thou shalt not be as ye ypocrytes are. For they love to stond and praye in the synagoges and in the corners of ye stretes because they wolde be sene of men. Verely I saye vnto you they haue their rewarde.
6:6	But when thou prayest entre into thy chamber and shut thy dore to the and praye to thy father which ys in secrete: and thy father which seith in secret shall rewarde the openly.
6:7	And whe ye praye bable not moche as the hethe do: for they thincke that they shalbe herde for their moche bablynges sake.
6:8	Be ye not lyke them therfore. For youre father knoweth wherof ye haue neade before ye axe of him.
6:9	After thys maner therfore praye ye. O oure father which arte in heve halowed be thy name.
6:10	Let thy kyngdome come. Thy wyll be fulfilled as well in erth as it ys in heven.
6:11	Geve vs this daye oure dayly breede.
6:12	And forgeve vs oure treaspases eve as we forgeve oure trespacers.
6:13	And leade vs not into teptacion: but delyver vs fro evell. For thyne is ye kyngedome and ye power and ye glorye for ever. Amen.
6:14	For and yf ye shall forgeve other men their treaspases youre hevenly father shall also forgeve you.
6:15	But and ye wyll not forgeve men their trespases nomore shall youre father forgeve youre treaspases.
6:16	Moreoure when ye faste be not sad as ye ypocrytes are. For they disfigure their faces that they myght be sene of me how they faste. Verely I say vnto you they have their rewarde.
6:17	But thou whe thou fastest annoynte thyne heed and washe thy face
6:18	that it appere not vnto men howe that thou fastest: but vnto thy father which is in secrete: and thy father which seeth in secret shall rewarde the openly.
6:19	Se that ye gaddre you not treasure vpon ye erth where rust and mothes corrupte and where theves breake through and steale.
6:20	But gaddre ye treasure togeder in heve where nether rust nor mothes corrupte and where theves nether breake vp nor yet steale.
6:21	For where soever youre treasure ys there will youre hertes be also.
6:22	The light of the body is thyne eye. Wher fore if thyne eye besyngle all thy body shalbe full of light.
6:23	But and if thyne eye be wycked then all thy body shalbe full of derckenes. Wherfore yf the light that is in the be darckenes: how greate is that darckenes.
6:24	No ma can serve two masters. For ether he shall hate the one and love the other: or els he shall lene to ye one and despise ye other: ye can not serve God and mammon.
6:25	Therfore I saye vnto you be not carefull for your lyfe what ye shall eate or what ye shall drincke nor yet for youre body what ye shall put on. ys not ye lyfe more worth then meate and the body more of value then raymeut?
6:26	Beholde the foules of ye ayer: for they sowe not nether reepe nor yet cary into ye barnes: and yet youre hevely father fedeth the. Are ye not moche better the they?
6:27	Which of you (though he toke thought therfore) coulde put one cubit vnto his stature?
6:28	And why care ye then for raymet? Considre ye lylies of ye felde how they growe. They labour not nether spynne.
6:29	And yet for all yt I saye vnto you yt eue Salomon in all his royalte was not arayed lyke vnto one of these.
6:30	Wherfore yf God so clothe the grasse which ys to daye in the felde and to morowe shalbe caste in to the fournace: shall he not moche more do the same vnto you o ye of lytle fayth?
6:31	Therfore take no thought sayinge: what shall we eate or what shall we drincke or wherwt shall we be clothed?
6:32	After all these thynges seke the getyls. For youre hevely father knoweth that ye have neade of all these thynges.
6:33	But rather seke ye fyrst the kyngdome of heuen and the rightwisnes therof and all these thynges shalbe ministred vnto you.
6:34	Care not then for the morow but let ye morow care for it selfe: for the daye present hath ever ynough of his awne trouble.
