| 11:1 | And it came to passe, when Iesus had made an end of commaunding his twelue Disciples, hee departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. |
| 11:2 | Now when Iohn had heard in the prison the workes of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, |
| 11:3 | And said vnto him, Art thou hee that should come? Or doe wee looke for another? |
| 11:4 | Iesus answered and saide vnto them, Go and shew Iohn againe those things which we doe heare and see: |
| 11:5 | The blind receiue their sight, and the lame walke, the lepers are cleansed, and the deafe heare, the dead are raised vp, and the poore haue the Gospel preached to them. |
| 11:6 | And blessed is he, whoseouer shal not be offended in me. |
| 11:7 | And as they departed, Iesus began to say vnto the multitudes concerning Iohn, what went ye out into the wildernesse to see? a reede shaken with the winde? |
| 11:8 | But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that weare soft cloathing, are in kings houses. |
| 11:9 | But what went ye out for to see? A Prophet? yea, I say vnto you, and more then a Prophet. |
| 11:10 | For this is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. |
| 11:11 | Uerely I say vnto you, Among them that are borne of women, there hath not risen a greater then Iohn the Baptist: notwithstanding, hee that is least in the kingdome of heauen, is greater then he. |
| 11:12 | And from the dayes of Iohn the Baptist, vntill now, the kingdome of heauen suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. |
| 11:13 | For all the Prophets, and the Law prophecied vntill Iohn. |
| 11:14 | And if ye wil receiue it, this is Elias which was for to come. |
| 11:15 | Hee that hath eares to heare, let him heare. |
| 11:16 | But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like vnto children, sitting in the markets, and calling vnto their fellowes, |
| 11:17 | And saying, we haue piped vnto you, and ye haue not danced: wee haue mourned vnto you, and ye haue not lamented. |
| 11:18 | For Iohn came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, he hath a deuill. |
| 11:19 | The sonne of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a wine bibber, a friend of publicanes and sinners: but wisedom is iustified of her children. |
| 11:20 | Then began he to vpbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not. |
| 11:21 | Woe vnto thee Chorazin, woe vnto thee Bethsaida: for if the mightie workes which were done in you, had bene done in Tyre and Sidon, they would haue repented long agoe in sackcloth and ashes. |
| 11:22 | But I say vnto you, It shall bee more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of iudgement, then for you. |
| 11:23 | And thou Capernaum, which art exalted vnto heauen, shalt be brought downe to hell: For if the mighty works which haue beene done in thee, had bin done in Sodome, it would haue remained vntil this day. |
| 11:24 | But I say vnto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, in ye day of iudgment, then for thee. |
| 11:25 | At that time Iesus answered, and said, I thanke thee, O Father, Lord of heauen and earth, because thou hast hid these things fro the wise & prudent, & hast reueiled them vnto babes. |
| 11:26 | Euen so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight. |
| 11:27 | All things are deliuered vnto me of my father: and no man knoweth the sonne but the father: neither knoweth any man the father, saue the sonne, and hee to whomsoeuer the sonne will reueile him. |
| 11:28 | Come vnto me all yee that labour, and are heauy laden, and I will giue you rest. |
| 11:29 | Take my yoke vpon you, and learne of me, for I am meeke and lowly in heart: and yee shall find rest vnto your soules. |
| 11:30 | For my yoke is easie, and my burden is light. |

| 11:5 | The blynde se, and the lame go: the lepers are clensed, and ye deaf heare: the deed aryse ageyne, and the gospell is preached to the poore: |
| 11:6 | and blessed is he, that is not offended at me. |
| 11:7 | Whan they wente their waye, Iesus beganne to speake vnto the people, concernynge Ihon: What are ye gone out for to se in the wyldernes? Wolde ye se a rede shaken with the wynde? |
| 11:8 | Or what are ye gone out for to se? Wolde ye se a man clothed in soft rayment? Beholde, they that weare soft clothinge, are in kinges houses, |
| 11:9 | But what are ye gone out for to se? A prophet? Yee I saye vnto you, and more the a prophet. |
| 11:10 | For this is he, of who it is written: Beholde, I sende my messauger before thy face, which shal prepare thy waye before the. |
| 11:11 | Verely I saye vnto you: Amonge ye children of wemen arose there not a greater then Ihon the baptist. Not withstondinge he that is lesse in the kyngdome of Heauen, is greater then he. |
| 11:12 | From the tyme of Ihon baptist hither to, ye kyngdome of heauen suffreth violence, and the violent plucke it vnto them. |
| 11:13 | For all the prophetes and the lawe prophecied vnto Ihon. |
| 11:14 | Also yf ye wil receaue it, this is Helias, which shulde come. |
| 11:15 | Who so hath eares to heare, let hi heare. |
| 11:16 | But where vnto shal I licke this generacion? It is like vnto childre which syt in the market, and call vnto their felowes, |
| 11:17 | & saye: we haue pyped vnto you, and ye wolde not daunse: We haue morned vnto you, & ye wolde not wepe. |
| 11:18 | For Ihon came nether eatinge nor drynkinge, & they saye: he hath the deuyll. |
| 11:19 | The sonne of man came eatinge and drynkinge, & they saye: lo what a glutton and wyne bebber this ma is, and a companyon of publicans & synners? And wissdome is iustified of hir children. |
| 11:20 | Then beganne he to vpbrade the cities, in the which most of his miracles were done, because they amended not. |
| 11:21 | Wo vnto the Chorasin, Wo vnto the Bethsaida: for yf the miracles which haue bene shewed amoge you, had bene done in Tyre and Sidon, they had repented longe agoo in sack cloth and asshes. |

| 11:4 | And Jhesus answeride, and seide `to hem, Go ye, and telle ayen to Joon tho thingis that ye han herd and seyn. |
| 11:5 | Blynde men seen, crokid men goon, meselis ben maad clene, deefe men heren, deed men rysen ayen, pore men ben takun to `prechyng of the gospel. |
| 11:6 | And he is blessid, that shal not be sclaundrid in me. |
| 11:7 | And whanne thei weren goon awei, Jhesus bigan to seie of Joon to the puple, What thing wenten ye out in to desert to se? a reed wawed with the wynd? |
| 11:8 | Or what thing wenten ye out to see? a man clothid with softe clothis? Lo! thei that ben clothid with softe clothis ben in the housis of kyngis. |
| 11:9 | But what thing wenten ye out to se? a prophete? Yhe, Y seie to you, and more than a prophete. |
| 11:10 | For this is he, of whom it is writun, Lo! Y sende myn aungel bifor thi face, that shal make redi thi weye bifor thee. |
| 11:11 | Treuli Y seie to you, ther roos noon more than Joon Baptist among the children of wymmen; but he that is lesse in the kyngdom of heuenes, is more than he. |
| 11:12 | And fro the daies of Joon Baptist til now the kyngdom of heuenes suffrith violence, and violent men rauyschen it. |
| 11:13 | For alle prophetis and the lawe `til to Joon prophecieden; and if ye wolen resseyue, |
| 11:14 | he is Elie that is to come. |
| 11:15 | He that hath eris of heryng, here he. |
| 11:16 | But to whom schal Y gesse this generacioun lijk? It is lijk to children sittynge in chepyng, that crien to her peeris, |
| 11:17 | and seien, We han songun to you, and ye han not daunsid; we han morned to you, and ye han not weilid. |
| 11:18 | For Joon cam nether etynge ne drynkynge, and thei seien, He hath a deuel. |
| 11:19 | The sone of man cam etynge and drynkynge, and thei seien, Lo! a man a glotoun, and a drinkere of wijne, and a freend of pupplicans and of synful men. And wisdom is iustified of her sones. |
| 11:20 | Thanne Jhesus bigan to seye repreef to citees, in whiche ful manye vertues of him weren doon, for thei diden not penaunce. |
| 11:21 | Wo to thee! Corosaym, woo to thee! Bethsaida; for if the vertues that ben doon in you hadden be doon in Tyre and Sidon, sumtyme thei hadden don penaunce in heyre and aische. |
| 11:22 | Netheles Y seie to you, it schal be lesse peyne to Tire and Sidon in the dai of doom, than to you. |
| 11:23 | And thou, Cafarnaum, whethir thou schalt be arerid vp in to heuene? Thou shalt go doun in to helle. For if the vertues that ben don in thee, hadden be don in Sodom, perauenture thei schulden haue dwellid `in to this dai. |
| 11:24 | Netheles Y seie to you, that to the lond of Sodom it schal be `lesse peyne in the dai of doom, than to thee. |
| 11:25 | In thilke tyme Jhesus answeride, and seide, Y knowleche to thee, fadir, lord of heuene and of erthe, for thou hast hid these thingis fro wijse men, and redi, and hast schewid hem to litle children; |
| 11:26 | so, fadir, for so it was plesynge tofore thee. |
| 11:27 | Alle thingis ben youune to me of my fadir; and no man knewe the sone, but the fadir, nethir ony man knewe the fadir, but the sone, and to whom the sone wolde schewe. |
| 11:28 | Alle ye that traueilen, and ben chargid, come to me, and Y schal fulfille you. |
| 11:29 | Take ye my yok on you, and lerne ye of me, for Y am mylde and meke in herte; and ye schulen fynde reste to youre soulis. |
| 11:30 | `For my yok is softe, and my charge liyt. |
