16:1	& þa ge-nehlahten him to pharisei & saducei. & costned & beedden hine Note: MS. beed hine den (over erasure). þt he heom sum taken of heofene äteawede.
16:2	Ða andswerede he heom & cwæð. On æfen ge cweðeð to-morgen hit beoð smolt weder. þis heofene is read.
16:3	& on morgen ge cwedeð to-daig hit beoð reu Note: MS. ren. weder. þeos lift scinð un-wederliche. nu cunne ge to-cnawen heofenes heow. witodlice ge ne mugen witen þare tide tackne.
16:4	Seo yfele cneorys. & unriht-hamende tacne secð & hire ne beoð ge-seald bute ionases tacne þas witege. & þa ferde he & heom for-lëët.
16:5	& his leorning-cnihtes comen ofer þanne muþan. & hyo for-gæten þæt hyo hlafes naman.
16:6	& þa sægdon he. gymeð & warniað eow fram þam bearman fariseorum & saduceorum.
16:7	þa þohten hyo be-twux heom & cwæðen. nimen we hlafes mid üs.
16:8	Ða se hælend wiste heore þankes he cwæð to heom. hwæt þence ge be-tweox eow. litles ge-leafan. þæt ge hlafes næbbeð
16:9	ne understande ge gyt ne ne ge-þenceð þare fif hlafe & þare fif þusende manne. & hu fele wiliene ge naman?
16:10	& þare seofe hlafen. & fewer þusende manne. & hu fele wilian ge namen?
16:11	Hwi ne on-gyte ge geot þæt ich ne saigde be hlafe warniað Note: MS. warniad. eow fram þam beorman fariseorum & saduceorum.
16:12	þa on-gæten hy þt he ne sæde warniað fram hlafe beorman ac fram lare fariseorum & saduceorum.

16:14	Ða cwæðen hyo sume Iohannen þanne fulluhtere. sume heliam. sume ieremiam. oððe an þare witegan.
16:15	Ða sæide he. hwæt segge ge þæt ich syo.
16:16	Ða andswerede hym petrus. Þu eart þas lefiendes godes sunu.
16:17	þa andswerede hym se hælend. eadig ert þu simon culfran bearn. for-þan hyt þe ne openeð ne un-wreag flæsc ne blod ac min fader þe on heofene ys.
16:18	& ich segge þe þæt þu ert petrus. & ofer þisne stan ich ge-tymbrie mine chyrcan. &. helle gate ne magen on-gean þa.
16:19	Ænd þe ich sylle heofena riches kaigen. & swa hwæt swa þu ofer eorþan gebindast. þæt beoð on hefene gebundon. & swa hwæt swa þu un-bindst on eorþan. þt beoð unbundon on heofene.
16:20	Note: Ascendens iesus ierosolimam assumpsit duodecim discipulos suos & ait illis Ecce & cetera. R. Þa bebead se hælend hys leorning-cnihtes þæt hyo nanen men ne sæden þæt he wære hælend crist.
16:21	Seððen he on-gan swutelian hys leorning-cnihten þæt he wolde faran to ierusalem. & fele þinge þolian fram yldren & bokeren. & ealdor-mannen. þara sacerda & beon of-slagen. & þridden daige arisen.
16:22	And þa ge-nam petrus hine on-sundren. & cweð to him. drihten ne ge-wurðe þæt.
16:23	þa be-seah he hine. & cwæð to petre. gang befte me sathanas. wiðer-ræde þu ert me. for-þan þu nast þa þing þe synd godes ac þa þe synde manne.
16:24	Note: Si quis uult uenire post me abneget semetipsum. R. Ða sæde se hælend hys leorning-cnihten. Gif hwa wile felgian me. wiðsake hine selfne. & neme hys rode & me felgie.

16:27	witodlice mannes sunu ys to cumene on his fæder wuldre mid hys ænglen. & þanne agelt he æig-hwilcan be his agenen mede.
16:28	Soðlice ich segge eow sume synd her standende þe deað ne onberiað. ær hyo seoð mannes sune cumende on hys fæder riche.


16:1	Then came the Pharises and Sadduces, and did tempt him, desiring him to shew them a signe from heauen.
16:2	But he answered, and said vnto them, When it is euening, ye say, Faire wether: for ye skie is red.
16:3	And in the morning ye say, To day shall be a tempest: for the skie is red and lowring. O hypocrites, ye can discerne the face of the skie, and can ye not discerne the signes of the times?
16:4	The wicked generation, and adulterous seeketh a signe, but there shall no signe be giuen it, but that signe of the Prophet Ionas: so hee left them, and departed.
16:5	And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread with them.
16:6	Then Iesus said vnto them, Take heede and beware of the leauen of the Pharises and Sadduces.
16:7	And they reasoned among themselues, saying, It is because we haue brought no bread.
16:8	But Iesus knowing it, saide vnto them, O ye of litle faith, why reason you thus among your selues, because ye haue brought no bread?
16:9	Doe ye not yet perceiue, neither remember the fiue loaues, when there were fiue thousand men, and how many baskets tooke ye vp?
16:10	Neither the seuen loaues when there were foure thousande men, and howe many baskets tooke ye vp?
16:11	Why perceiue ye not that I said not vnto you concerning bread, that ye shoulde beware of the leauen of the Pharises and Sadduces?
16:12	Then vnderstood they that he had not said that they should beware of the leauen of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharises, and Sadduces.
16:13	Nowe when Iesus came into the coastes of Cesarea Philippi, hee asked his disciples, saying, Whome doe men say that I, the sonne of man am?
16:14	And they said, Some say, Iohn Baptist: and some, Elias: and others, Ieremias, or one of the Prophets.
16:15	He said vnto them, But whome say ye that I am?
16:16	Then Simon Peter answered, and said, Thou art that Christ, the Sonne of the liuing God.
16:17	And Iesus answered, and saide to him, Blessed art thou, Simon, the sonne of Ionas: for flesh and blood hath not reueiled it vnto thee, but my Father which is in heauen.
16:18	And I say also vnto thee, that thou art Peter, and vpon this rocke I will builde my Church: and ye gates of hell shall not ouercome it.
16:19	And I will giue vnto thee the keyes of the kingdome of heauen, and whatsoeuer thou shalt binde vpon earth, shalbe bound in heauen: and whatsoeuer thou shalt loose on earth, shall be loosed in heauen.
16:20	Then hee charged his disciples, that they should tell no man that he was Iesus that Christ.
16:21	From that time foorth Iesus beganne to shewe vnto his disciples, that he must goe vnto Hierusalem, and suffer many thinges of the Elders, and of the hie Priestes, and Scribes, and be slaine, and be raised againe the thirde day.
16:22	Then Peter tooke him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, Master, pitie thy selfe: this shall not be vnto thee.
16:23	Then he turned backe, and said vnto Peter, Get thee behinde me, Satan: thou art an offence vnto me, because thou vnderstandest not the thinges that are of God, but the thinges that are of men.
16:24	Iesus then saide to his disciples, If any man will follow me, let him forsake himselfe: and take vp his crosse, and follow me.
16:25	For whosoeuer will saue his life, shall lose it: and whosoeuer shall lose his life for my sake, shall finde it.
16:26	For what shall it profite a man though he should winne the whole worlde, if hee lose his owne soule? or what shall a man giue for recompence of his soule?
16:27	For the Sonne of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his Angels, and then shall he giue to euery man according to his deedes.
16:28	Verely I say vnto you, there bee some of them that stande here, which shall not taste of death, till they haue seene the Sonne of man come in his kingdome.


16:1	Then came the pharises and saduces and did tempte him desyringe him to shewe them some signe from heve.
16:2	He answered and sayde vnto the. At even ye saye we shall have fayre wedder and yt because ye skye is reed:
16:3	and in the morninge ye saye to daye shalbe foule wedder and that because the skye is cloudy and reed. O ye ypocrites ye can discerne ye fassion of the skye: and can ye not discerne ye signes of the tymes?
16:4	The frowarde nacion and advoutrous seketh a signe and there shall non other signe be geven vnto them but the signe of the prophet Ionas. So lefte he them and departed.
16:5	And when his disciples were come to the other side of the water they had forgotte to take breed with the.
16:6	Then Iesus sayd vnto them: Take hede and beware of the leve of ye Pharises and of ye Saduces.
16:7	And they thought in them selves sayinge: because we have brought no breed with vs.
16:8	When Iesus vnderstode that he sayd vnto the. O ye of lytell faith why are youre mindes cumbred because ye have brought no breed?
16:9	Do ye not yet perceave nether remeber those .v. loves when there were .v.M. men and how many baskettes toke ye vp?
16:10	Nether the .vii. loves when there were .iiiii.M. and how many baskettes toke ye vp?
16:11	Why perceave ye not then yt I spake not vnto you of breed whe I sayde beware of the leven of the Pharises and of the Saduces?
16:12	The vnderstode they how that he bad not them beware of the leven of breed: but of the doctrine of the Pharises and of the Saduces.
16:13	When Iesus cam in to the costes of the cite which is called Cesarea Philippi he axed his disciples sayinge: whom do men saye yt I the sonne of ma am?
16:14	They saide some saye yt thou arte Ihon Baptist some Helias some Ieremias or one of ye prophetes.
16:15	He sayde vnto the: but who saye ye yt I am?
16:16	Simo Peter answered and sayde: Thou arte Christ ye sonne of the lyvinge God.
16:17	And Iesus answered and sayde to him: happy arte thou Simon the sonne of Ionas for fleshe and bloud hath not opened vnto the yt but my father which is in heve.
16:18	And I saye also vnto the yt thou arte Peter: and apon this rocke I wyll bylde my congregacion. And the gates of hell shall not prevayle ageynst it.
16:19	And I wyll geve vnto the the keyes of the kyngdom of heven: and whatsoever thou byndest vpon erth shall be bounde in heven: and whatsoever thou lowsest on erthe shalbe lowsed in heven.
16:20	Then he charged his disciples yt they shulde tell no man yt he was Iesus Christ.
16:21	From yt tyme forth Iesus began to shewe vnto his disciples how yt he must go vnto Ierusalem and suffer many thinges of ye Elders and of ye hye prestes and of the scribes and must be killed and ryse agayne ye thirde daye.
16:22	But Peter toke him asyde and began to rebuke him sayinge: master faver thy sylfe this shall not come vnto the.
16:23	Then tourned he aboute and sayde vnto Peter: come after me Satan thou offendest me because thou sauourest not godly thinges but wordly thinges
16:24	Iesus then sayde to his disciples. If eny man wyll folowe me leet him forsake him sylfe and take vp his crosse and folowe me.
16:25	For who soever wyll save his lyfe shall loose it. And whosoever shall loose his lyfe for my sake shall fynde it.
16:26	What shall it proffet a man though he shulde wynne all the whoole worlde: yf he loose his owne soule? Or els what shall a man geve to redeme his soule agayne with all?
16:27	For the sonne of man shall come in the glory of his father wt his angels: and then shall he rewarde every man accordinge to his dedes.
16:28	Verely I saye vnto you some ther be amonge them that here stonde which shall not taste of deeth tyll they shall have sene the sonne of man come in his kyngdomen.
