| 21:1 | And when they drewe neere to Hierusalem, and were come to Bethphage, vnto the mount of the Oliues, then sent Iesus two disciples, |
| 21:2 | Saying to them, Goe into the towne that is ouer against you, and anon yee shall finde an asse bounde, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them vnto me. |
| 21:3 | And if any man say ought vnto you, say ye, that the Lord hath neede of them, and straightway he will let them goe. |
| 21:4 | All this was done that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Prophet, saying, |
| 21:5 | Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Beholde, thy King commeth vnto thee, meeke and sitting vpon an asse, and a colte, the foale of an asse vsed to the yoke. |
| 21:6 | So the disciples went, and did as Iesus had commanded them, |
| 21:7 | And brought the asse and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and set him thereon. |
| 21:8 | And a great multitude spred their garments in the way: and other cut downe branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. |
| 21:9 | Moreouer, the people that went before, and they also that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Sonne of Dauid, Blessed be hee that commeth in the Name of the Lord, Hosanna thou which art in the highest heauens. |
| 21:10 | And when he was come into Hierusalem, all the citie was mooued, saying, Who is this? |
| 21:11 | And the people said, This is Iesus that Prophet of Nazareth in Galile. |
| 21:12 | And Iesus went into the Temple of God, and cast out all them that solde and bought in the Temple, and ouerthrew the tables of the money chagers, and the seates of them that sold doues, |
| 21:13 | And said to them, it is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer: but ye haue made it a denne of theeues. |
| 21:14 | Then the blinde, and the halt came to him in the Temple, and he healed them. |
| 21:15 | But when the chiefe priestes and Scribes sawe the marueiles that hee did, and the children crying in the Temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Sonne of Dauid, they disdained, |
| 21:16 | And said vnto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Iesus said vnto them, Yea: read ye neuer, By the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast made perfite the praise? |
| 21:17 | So hee left them, and went out of the citie vnto Bethania, and lodged there. |
| 21:18 | And in the morning, as he returned into the citie, he was hungrie, |
| 21:19 | And seeing a figge tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaues onely, and said to it, Neuer fruite grow on thee henceforwards. And anon the figge tree withered. |
| 21:20 | And when his disciples saw it, they marueiled, saying, How soone is the figge tree withered! |
| 21:21 | And Iesus answered and said vnto them, Verely I say vnto you, if ye haue faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only doe that, which I haue done to the figge tree, but also if ye say vnto this mountaine, Take thy selfe away, and cast thy selfe into the sea, it shalbe done. |
| 21:22 | And whatsoeuer ye shall aske in prayer, if ye beleeue, ye shall receiue it. |
| 21:23 | And whe he was come into the Temple, the chiefe Priestes, and the Elders of the people came vnto him, as he was teaching, and saide, By what authoritie doest thou these things? and who gaue thee this authoritie? |
| 21:24 | Then Iesus answered and said vnto them, I also will aske of you a certaine thing, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authoritie I doe these things. |
| 21:25 | The baptisme of Iohn, whence was it? from heauen, or of men? Then they reasoned among themselues, saying, If we shall say, From heauen, he will say vnto vs, Why did ye not then beleeue him? |
| 21:26 | And if we say, Of men, we feare the multitude, for all holde Iohn as a Prophet. |
| 21:27 | Then they answered Iesus, and said, We can not tell. And he said vnto them, Neither tell I you by what authoritie I doe these things. |
| 21:28 | But what thinke ye? A certaine man had two sonnes, and came to the elder, and saide, Sonne, goe and worke to day in my vineyarde. |
| 21:29 | But he answered, and said, I will not: yet afterward he repented himselfe, and went. |
| 21:30 | Then came he to the second, and said likewise. And he answered, and said, I will, Syr: yet he went not. |
| 21:31 | Whether of them twaine did the will of the father? They saide vnto him, The first. Iesus saide vnto them, Verely I say vnto you, that the Publicanes and the harlots goe before you into the kingdome of God. |
| 21:32 | For Iohn came vnto you in the way of righteousnes, and yee beleeued him not: but the Publicanes, and the harlots beleeued him, and ye, though ye sawe it, were not mooued with repentance afterward, that ye might beleeue him. |
| 21:33 | Heare another parable, There was a certaine housholder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and made a winepresse therein, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a strange countrey. |
| 21:34 | And when the time of the fruite drewe neere, hee sent his seruants to the husbandmen to receiue the fruites thereof. |
| 21:35 | And ye husbandmen tooke his seruants and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. |
| 21:36 | Againe hee sent other seruants, moe then the first: and they did the like vnto them. |
| 21:37 | But last of all he sent vnto them his owne sonne, saying, They will reuerence my sonne. |
| 21:38 | But when the husbandmen saw the sonne, they saide among themselues, This is the heire: come, let vs kill him, and let vs take his inheritance. |
| 21:39 | So they tooke him, and cast him out of the vineyarde, and slewe him. |
| 21:40 | When therefore the Lord of the vineyarde shall come, what will hee doe to those husbandmen? |
| 21:41 | They saide vnto him, Hee will cruelly destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard vnto other husbandmen, which shall deliuer him the fruites in their seasons. |
| 21:42 | Iesus saide vnto them, Read ye neuer in the Scriptures, The stone which the builders refused, the same is made the head of the corner? This was the Lordes doing, and it is marueilous in our eyes. |
| 21:43 | Therefore say I vnto you, The kingdome of God shalbe taken from you, and shalbe giuen to a nation, which shall bring foorth the fruites thereof. |
| 21:44 | And whosoeuer shall fall on this stone, he shalbe broken: but on whomsoeuer it shall fall, it will dash him a pieces. |
| 21:45 | And when the chiefe Priestes and Pharises had heard his parables, they perceiued that hee spake of them. |
| 21:46 | And they seeking to laye handes on him, feared the people, because they tooke him as a Prophet. |
| 21:1 | When they drewe neye vnto Ierusalem and were come to Betphage vnto mounte olivete: then sent Iesus two of his disciples |
| 21:2 | saiynge to the. Go in to the toune that lyeth over agaynste you and anone ye shall fynde an asse bounde and her colte with her: lose them and bringe them vnto me. |
| 21:3 | And if eny man saye ought vnto you saye ye yt the lorde hath neade of them: and streyght waye he will let them go. |
| 21:4 | All this was done to fulfyll that which was spoken by the Prophet sayinge: |
| 21:5 | Tell ye the doughter of Sion: beholde thy kynge cometh vnto the meke and sittinge vpon an asse and a colte the fole of an asse vsed to the yooke. |
| 21:6 | The disciples went and dyd as Iesus comaunded them |
| 21:7 | and brought ye asse and the colte and put on them their clothes and set him theron. |
| 21:8 | And many of the people spreed their garmentes in ye waye. Other cut doune braunches fro the trees and strawed them in the waye. |
| 21:9 | Moreover the people that went before and they also that came after cryed sayinge: Hosanna to ye sonne of David. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lorde Hosanna in the hyest. |
| 21:10 | And when he was come in to Ierusalem all the cyte was moved sayinge: who is this? |
| 21:11 | And the people sayde: this is Iesus the Prophet of Nazareth a cyte of Galile. |
| 21:12 | And Iesus went in to the temple of God and cast out all them that soulde and bought in the temple and overthrew the tables of the mony chaugers and the seates of them that solde doves |
| 21:13 | and sayde to them: It is wrytten my housse shalbe called the housse of prayer. But ye have made it a denne of theves. |
| 21:14 | And the blinde and the halt came to him in ye teple and he healed the. |
| 21:15 | When the chefe prestes and scribes sawe the marveylles that he dyd and the chyldren cryinge in the teple and sayinge Hosanna to the sonne of David they disdayned |
| 21:16 | and sayde vnto him: hearest thou what these saye? Iesus sayde vnto them yee: have ye never redde of the mouth of babes and suckelinges thou haste ordeyned prayse? |
| 21:17 | And he lefte the and wet out of ye cite vnto Bethanie and had his abydige there. |
| 21:18 | In the mornynge as he returned in to the cyte ageyne he hungred |
| 21:19 | and spyed a fygge trre in the waye and came to it and founde nothinge theron but leves only and sayd to it never frute growe on the hence forwardes. And ano the fygge tree wyddered awaye. |
| 21:20 | And when his disciples sawe that they marveled sayinge: Howe sone is the fygge tree wyddered awaye? |
| 21:21 | Iesus answered and sayde vnto the: Verely I saye vnto you yf ye shall have faith and shall not dout ye shall not only do that which I have done to the fygge tree: but also yf ye shall saye vnto this moutayne take thy silfe awaye and cast thy silfe into the see it shalbe done. |
| 21:22 | And whatsoever ye shall axe in prayer (if ye beleve) ye shall receave it. |
| 21:23 | And when he was come into the teple the chefe prestes and the elders of the people came vnto him as he was teachinge and sayde: by what auctorite doest thou these thinges? and who gave the this power? |
| 21:24 | Iesus answered and sayde vnto them: I also will axe of you a certayne question which if ye assoyle me I in lyke wyse wyll tell you by what auctorite I do these thinges. |
| 21:25 | The baptime of Iohn: whence was it? fro heve or of men? Then they reasoned amoge them selves sayinge: yf we shall saye fro heven he will saye vnto vs: why dyd ye not then beleve hym? |
| 21:26 | But and if we shall saye of men then feare we the people. For all men helde Iohn as a Prophet. |
| 21:27 | And they answered Iesus and sayde: we cannot tell. And he lyke wyse sayd vnto them: nether tell I you by what auctorite I do these thinges. |
| 21:28 | What saye ye to this? A certayne man had two sonnes and came to ye elder and sayde: sonne go and worke to daye in my vineyarde. |
| 21:29 | He answered and sayde I will not: but afterwarde repented and went. |
| 21:30 | Then came he to the second and sayde lyke wyse. And he answered and sayde: I will syr: yet wet not. |
| 21:31 | Whether of the twayne dyd the will of the father? And they sayde vnto hym: the fyrst. Iesus sayde vnto the: verely I saye vnto you that the publicans and the harlotes shall come into ye kyngdome of God before you. |
| 21:32 | For Iohn came vnto you in the waye of rightewesnes and ye beleved hym not. But the publicans and the harlotes beleved him. And yet ye (though ye sawe it) were not yet moved with repentaunce that ye myght afterwarde have beleved hym. |
| 21:33 | Herken another similitude. Ther was a certayne housholder which planted a vineyarde and hedged it roude about and made a wynpresse in it and bilt a tower and let it out to husbandmen and wet in to a straunge coutre. |
| 21:34 | And when the tyme of the frute drewe neare he sent his servauntes to the husbandmen to receave the frutes of it. |
| 21:35 | And ye husbandme caught his servauntes and bet one kylled another and stoned another. |
| 21:36 | Agayne he sent other servantes moo then the fyrst: and they served them lyke wyse. |
| 21:37 | But last of all he sent vnto the his awne sonne sayinge: they will feare my sonne. |
| 21:38 | But when the husbandmen sawe the sonne they sayde amoge the selves: This is the heyre: come let vs kyll him and let vs take his inheritaunce to oure selves. |
| 21:39 | And they caught him and thrust him out of the vineyarde and slewe him. |
| 21:40 | When the lorde of the vyneyarde commeth what will he do wt those husbandme? |
| 21:41 | They sayde vnto him: he will cruellye destroye those evyll persons and wyll let out his vyneyarde vnto other husbandmen which shall delyver him the frute at tymes convenient |
| 21:42 | Iesus sayde vnto the: dyd ye never redde in the scriptures? The stone which ye bylders refused ye same is set in ye principall parte of ye corner: this was the lordes doinge and yt is mervelous in oure eyes. |
| 21:43 | Therfore saye I vnto you the kyngdome of God shalbe take from you and shalbe geve to the getyls which shall brynge forth the frutes of it. |
| 21:44 | And whosoever shall fall on this stone he shalbe broken but on whosoever it shall fall vpon it will grynde him to powder. |
| 21:45 | And when the chefe prestes and Pharises hearde these similitudes they perceaved yt he spake of the. |
| 21:46 | And they wet about to laye hondes on him but they feared ye people because they tooke him as a Prophet. |
