Matthew - Chapter: 22

>
22:1And Jesus answering, again spake to them in similes, saying,
22:2`The reign of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made marriage-feasts for his son,
22:3and he sent forth his servants to call those having been called to the marriage-feasts, and they were not willing to come.
22:4`Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Say to those who have been called: Lo, my dinner I prepared, my oxen and the fatlings have been killed, and all things `are' ready, come ye to the marriage-feasts;
22:5and they, having disregarded `it', went away, the one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise;
22:6and the rest, having laid hold on his servants, did insult and slay `them'.
22:7`And the king having heard, was wroth, and having sent forth his soldiers, he destroyed those murderers, and their city he set on fire;
22:8then saith he to his servants, The marriage-feast indeed is ready, and those called were not worthy,
22:9be going, then, on to the cross-ways, and as many as ye may find, call ye to the marriage-feasts.
22:10`And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, did gather all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the marriage-feast apartment was filled with those reclining.
22:11`And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with clothing of the marriage-feast,
22:12and he saith to him, Comrade, how didst thou come in hither, not having clothing of the marriage-feast? and he was speechless.
22:13`Then said the king to the ministrants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth to the outer darkness, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth;
22:14for many are called, and few chosen.'
22:15Then the Pharisees having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare him in words,
22:16and they send to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, `Teacher, we have known that thou art true, and the way of God in truth thou dost teach, and thou art not caring for any one, for thou dost not look to the face of men;
22:17tell us, therefore, what dost thou think? is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?'
22:18And Jesus having known their wickedness, said, `Why me do ye tempt, hypocrites?
22:19show me the tribute-coin?' and they brought to him a denary;
22:20and he saith to them, `Whose `is' this image and the inscription?'
22:21they say to him, `Caesar's;' then saith he to them, `Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;'
22:22and having heard they wondered, and having left him they went away.
22:23In that day there came near to him Sadducees, who are saying there is not a rising again, and they questioned him, saying,
22:24`Teacher, Moses said, If any one may die not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and shall raise up seed to his brother.
22:25`And there were with us seven brothers, and the first having married did die, and not having seed, he left his wife to his brother;
22:26in like manner also the second, and the third, unto the seventh,
22:27and last of all died also the woman;
22:28therefore in the rising again, of which of the seven shall she be wife -- for all had her?'
22:29And Jesus answering said to them, `Ye go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God;
22:30for in the rising again they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers of God in heaven.
22:31`And concerning the rising again of the dead, did ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
22:32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not a God of dead men, but of living.'
22:33And having heard, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching;
22:34and the Pharisees, having heard that he did silence the Sadducees, were gathered together unto him;
22:35and one of them, a lawyer, did question, tempting him, and saying,
22:36`Teacher, which `is' the great command in the Law?'
22:37And Jesus said to him, `Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thine understanding --
22:38this is a first and great command;
22:39and the second `is' like to it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself;
22:40on these -- the two commands -- all the law and the prophets do hang.'
22:41And the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus did question them,
22:42saying, `What do ye think concerning the Christ? of whom is he son?' They say to him, `Of David.'
22:43He saith to them, `How then doth David in the Spirit call him lord, saying,
22:44The Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, till I may make thine enemies thy footstool?
22:45If then David doth call him lord, how is he his son?'
22:46And no one was able to answer him a word, nor durst any from that day question him any more.

22:1And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
22:2The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
22:3And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
22:4Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
22:5But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
22:6And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
22:7But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
22:8Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
22:9Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
22:10So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
22:11And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
22:12And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
22:13Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
22:14For many are called, but few are chosen.
22:15Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
22:16And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
22:17Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
22:18But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
22:19Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
22:20And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
22:21They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
22:22When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
22:23The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
22:24Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
22:25Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
22:26Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
22:27And last of all the woman died also.
22:28Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
22:29Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
22:30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
22:31But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
22:32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
22:33And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
22:34But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
22:35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
22:36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
22:37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
22:38This is the first and great commandment.
22:39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
22:40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
22:41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
22:42Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.
22:43He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
22:44The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
22:45If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
22:46And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

22:1And answering, Jesus again spoke to them in parables, saying:
22:2The kingdom of Heaven is compared to a man, a king, who made a wedding feast for his son.
22:3And he sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, but they did not desire to come.
22:4Again, he sent other slaves, saying, Tell the ones invited, Behold, I have prepared my supper; my oxen, and the fatlings are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast.
22:5But not caring they went away, one to his own field, and one to his trading.
22:6And the rest, seizing his slaves, insulted and killed them .
22:7And hearing, the king became angry. And sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
22:8Then he said to his slaves, Indeed, the wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy.
22:9Then go onto the exits of the highways and call to the wedding feast as many as you may find.
22:10And going out into the highways, those slaves gathered all, as many as they found, both evil and good. And the wedding feast was filled with reclining guests.
22:11And the king coming in to look over those reclining, he saw a man there not having been dressed in a wedding garment.
22:12And he said to him, Friend, how did you come in here, not having a wedding garment? But he was speechless.
22:13Then the king said to the servants, Binding his feet and hands, take him away and throw him out into the outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of the teeth.
22:14For many are called, but few chosen.
22:15Then going, the Pharisees took counsel so as they might trap Him in words.
22:16And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God in truth, and it does not concern you about anyone, for you do not look to the face of men.
22:17Then tell us, what do you think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
22:18But knowing their wickedness, Jesus said, Why do you test Me, hypocrites?
22:19Show Me the tribute coin. And they brought a denarius to Him.
22:20And He said to them, Whose image and inscription is this?
22:21They said to Him, Caesar's. Then He said to them, Then give to Caesar the things of Caesar, and to God the things of God.
22:22And hearing, they marveled. And leaving Him, they went away.
22:23On that day, Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him. And they questioned Him,
22:24saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any should die not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and shall raise up seed to his brother. Deut. 25:5
22:25And seven brothers were with us. And having married, the first expired, and not having seed left his wife to his brother.
22:26In the same way also the second, and the third, until the seven.
22:27And last of all, the woman also died.
22:28Then in the resurrection, of which of the seven will she be wife? For all had her.
22:29And answering, Jesus said to them, You err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
22:30For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are as the angels of God in Heaven.
22:31But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that spoken to you by God, saying:
22:32"I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?" God is not God of the dead, but of the living. Ex. 3:6
22:33And hearing, the crowds were astonished at His doctrine.
22:34But hearing that He had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees were gathered together.
22:35And one of them, a lawyer, questioned Him , testing Him, and saying,
22:36Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?
22:37And Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." Deut. 6:5
22:38This is the first and great commandment.
22:39And the second is like it: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Lev. 19:18
22:40On these two commandments all the Law and the Prophets hang.
22:41But the Pharisees having been gathered, Jesus questioned them,
22:42saying, What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is He? They say to Him, David's.
22:43He said to them, Then how does David in Spirit call Him Lord, saying,
22:44"The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on My right until I place Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet?" LXX-Psa. 109:1; MT-Psa. 110:1
22:45Then if David calls Him Lord, how is He his son?
22:46And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day to question Him any more.
