| 22:1 | And Iesus answered, and spake vnto them againe by parables, and said, |
| 22:2 | The Kingdome of heauen is like vnto a certaine King, which made a marriage for his sonne, |
| 22:3 | And sent forth his seruants to call them that were bidden to the wedding, and they would not come. |
| 22:4 | Againe, hee sent foorth other seruants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Beholde, I haue prepared my dinner; my oxen, and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come vnto the marriage. |
| 22:5 | But they made light of it, and went their wayes, one to his farme, another to his merchandize: |
| 22:6 | And the remnant tooke his seruants, and intreated them spitefully, and slew them. |
| 22:7 | But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth, and hee sent foorth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burnt vp their citie. |
| 22:8 | Then saith hee to his seruants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden, were not worthy. |
| 22:9 | Goe yee therefore into the high wayes, and as many as yee shall finde, bid to the marriage. |
| 22:10 | So those seruants went out into the high wayes, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good, and the wedding was furnished with ghests. |
| 22:11 | And when the King came in to see the guests, hee sawe there a man, which had not on a wedding garment, |
| 22:12 | And hee sayth vnto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not hauing a wedding garment? And hee was speechlesse. |
| 22:13 | Then said the king to the seruants, Binde him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkenesse, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. |
| 22:14 | For many are called, but few are chosen. |
| 22:15 | Then went the Pharises, and tooke counsell, how they might intangle him in his talke. |
| 22:16 | And they sent out vnto him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, wee know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in trueth, neither carest thou for any man; for thou regardest not the person of men. |
| 22:17 | Tell vs therefore, what thinkest thou? Is it lawfull to giue tribute vnto Cesar, or not? |
| 22:18 | But Iesus perceiued their wickednesse, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? |
| 22:19 | Shew me the tribute money. And they brought vnto him a peny. |
| 22:20 | And he sayth vnto them, Whose is this image and superscription? |
| 22:21 | They say vnto him, Cesars. Then sayth he vnto them, Render therefore vnto Cesar, the things which are Cesars: and vnto God, the things that are Gods. |
| 22:22 | When they had heard these wordes, they marueiled, and left him, and went their way. |
| 22:23 | The same day came to him the Sadduces, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, |
| 22:24 | Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, hauing no children, his brother shall marrie his wife, and raise vp seed vnto his brother. |
| 22:25 | Now there were with vs seuen brethren, and the first when he had maried a wife, deceased, and hauing no issue, left his wife vnto his brother. |
| 22:26 | Likewise the second also, and the third, vnto the seuenth. |
| 22:27 | And last of al the woman died also. |
| 22:28 | Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seuen? for they all had her. |
| 22:29 | Iesus answered, and said vnto them, Yee doe erre, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. |
| 22:30 | For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are giuen in marriage, but are as the Angels of God in heauen. |
| 22:31 | But as touching the resurrection of the dead, haue ye not read that which was spoken vnto you by God, saying, |
| 22:32 | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the liuing. |
| 22:33 | And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. |
| 22:34 | But when the Pharises had heard that he had put the Sadduces to silence, they were gathered together. |
| 22:35 | Then one of them, which was a Lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, |
| 22:36 | Master, which is the great Commandement in the Law? |
| 22:37 | Iesus sayd vnto him, Thou shalt loue the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soule, and with all thy minde. |
| 22:38 | This is the first and great Commandement. |
| 22:39 | And the second is like vnto it, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour as thy selfe. |
| 22:40 | On these two Commandements hang all the Law and the Prophets. |
| 22:41 | While the Pharises were gathered together, Iesus asked them, |
| 22:42 | Saying, What thinke yee of Christ? whose sonne is hee? They say vnto him, The sonne of Dauid. |
| 22:43 | He saith vnto them, How then doth Dauid in spirit call him Lord, saying, |
| 22:44 | The Lord said vnto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstoole? |
| 22:45 | If Dauid then call him Lord, how is he his sonne? |
| 22:46 | And no man was able to answere him a word, neither durst any man (from that day foorth) aske him any moe questions. |
| 22:1 | And Iesus aunswered, and spake vnto them againe by parables, and sayde: |
| 22:2 | The kyngdome of heauen is lyke vnto a man that was a kyng, which made a mariage for his sonne. |
| 22:3 | And sent foorth his seruauntes, to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they woulde not come. |
| 22:4 | Agayne, he sent foorth other seruauntes, saying: Tell them which are bidden, beholde, I haue prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fatlynges are kylled, and all thynges are redy: come vnto the mariage. |
| 22:5 | But they made lyght of it, and went their wayes, one to his farme, another to his marchaundize: |
| 22:6 | And the remnaunt toke his seruauntes, and entreated them spitefully, and slewe them. |
| 22:7 | But when the kyng hearde [therof], he was wroth, and sent foorth his men of warre, and destroyed those murtherers and brent vp their citie. |
| 22:8 | Then sayde he to his seruauntes, the mariage in dede is prepared: But they which were bidden, were not worthy. |
| 22:9 | Go ye therfore out into the hye wayes: and as many as ye fynde, bid [them] to the mariage. |
| 22:10 | And the seruauntes went out into the hye wayes, and gathered together all, as many as they coulde fynde, both good and bad: and the weddyng was furnished with ghestes. |
| 22:11 | Then the kyng came in, to see the ghestes: and whe he spyed there a man, which had not on a weddyng garmet, |
| 22:12 | He sayde vnto hym: frende, howe camest thou in hyther, not hauyng a weddyng garment? And he was euen speachlesse. |
| 22:13 | Then sayde the kyng to the ministers: bynde hym hande and foote, and cast hym into vtter darknesse: there shalbe wepyng and gnasshyng of teeth. |
| 22:14 | For many be called, but fewe are chosen. |
| 22:15 | Then went the Pharisees, and toke councell how they myght intangle hym in his talke. |
| 22:16 | And they sent out vnto hym their disciples, with the Herodians seruauntes, saying: Maister, we knowe that thou art true, and teachest the way of God truely, neither carest thou for any man: for thou doest not respect mens persons. |
| 22:17 | Tell vs therfore, howe thynkest thou? Is it lawfull that tribute be geuen vnto Caesar, or not? |
| 22:18 | But Iesus perceauyng their wickednesse, sayde: Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? |
| 22:19 | Shewe me the tribute money. And they brought vnto hym a peny. |
| 22:20 | And he sayde to them: whose is this image and superscription? |
| 22:21 | They say vnto hym, Caesars. Then sayde he vnto them: Geue therfore vnto Caesar, the [thynges] which are Caesars: and vnto God, those [thynges] that are gods. |
| 22:22 | When they had hearde [these wordes] they marueyled, and left hym, and went their way. |
| 22:23 | The same day came to hym the Saducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked hym, |
| 22:24 | Saying: Maister, Moyses sayde, that if a man dye, hauing no childre, his brother shoulde mary his wyfe, and rayse vp seede vnto his brother. |
| 22:25 | Ther were with vs seuen brethren, and the first maryed a wyfe, and deceassed without issue, and left his wyfe vnto his brother. |
| 22:26 | Likewyse, the seconde, and the thirde, vnto the seuenth. |
| 22:27 | Last of all, the woman dyed also. |
| 22:28 | Therfore, in the resurrection, whose wyfe shall she be of the seuen? For they all had her. |
| 22:29 | Iesus aunswered & sayde vnto them: ye do erre, not knowyng the Scriptures, nor the power of God. |
| 22:30 | For in the resurrection, they neither mary, nor are geuen in maryage: but are as the Angels of God in heauen. |
| 22:31 | But as touchyng the resurrection of the dead: haue ye not read that which is spoken vnto you of God, which sayth. |
| 22:32 | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the lyuyng. |
| 22:33 | And when the multitudes hearde this, they were astonyed at his doctrine. |
| 22:34 | But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Saducees to silence, they came together. |
| 22:35 | And one of them, which was a lawyer, asked hym a question, temptyng hym, and saying: |
| 22:36 | Maister, which is the great commaundent in the lawe? |
| 22:37 | Iesus sayde vnto hym: Thou shalt loue the Lorde thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soule, and with all thy mynde. |
| 22:38 | This is the first and great commaundement. |
| 22:39 | And the seconde is lyke vnto this. Thou shalt loue thy neyghbour as thy selfe. |
| 22:40 | In these two commaundementes, hang all the lawe and the prophetes. |
| 22:41 | Whyle the Pharisees were gathered together, Iesus asked them, |
| 22:42 | Saying: what thynke ye of Christe? whose sonne is he? They sayde vnto hym [the sonne] of Dauid. |
| 22:43 | He sayde vnto them: howe then doth Dauid in spirite call him Lorde, saying: |
| 22:44 | The Lorde sayd vnto my Lorde: sit thou on my ryght hande, tyll I make thyne enemyes thy footestoole? |
| 22:45 | If Dauid then call him Lorde, howe is he then his sonne? |
| 22:46 | And no man was able to aunswere hym a worde: neither durst any man (from that day foorth) aske hym any mo questions. |
| 22:1 | Then Iesus answered, and spake vnto them againe in parables, saying, |
| 22:2 | The kingdome of heauen is like vnto a certaine King which maried his sonne, |
| 22:3 | And sent foorth his seruants, to call them that were bidde to the wedding, but they woulde not come. |
| 22:4 | Againe hee sent foorth other seruants, saying. Tell them which are bidden, Beholde, I haue prepared my dinner: mine oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all thinges are readie: come vnto the mariage. |
| 22:5 | But they made light of it, and went their wayes, one to his farme, and another about his marchandise. |
| 22:6 | And the remnant tooke his seruants, and intreated them sharpely, and slewe them. |
| 22:7 | But when the King heard it, he was wroth, and sent foorth his warriers, and destroyed those murtherers, and burnt vp their citie. |
| 22:8 | Then saide hee to his seruants, Truely the wedding is prepared: but they which were bidden, were not worthy. |
| 22:9 | Go ye therefore out into the high wayes, and as many as ye finde, bid them to the mariage. |
| 22:10 | So those seruantes went out into the hie wayes, and gathered together all that euer they found, both good and bad: so the wedding was furnished with ghestes. |
| 22:11 | Then the King came in, to see the ghestes, and sawe there a man which had not on a wedding garment. |
| 22:12 | And he sayd vnto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, and hast not on a wedding garment? And he was speachlesse. |
| 22:13 | Then sayd the King to the seruants, Binde him hand and foote: take him away, and cast him into vtter darkenes: there shalbe weeping and gnashing of teeth. |
| 22:14 | For many are called, but fewe chosen. |
| 22:15 | Then went the Pharises and tooke counsell how they might tangle him in talke. |
| 22:16 | And they sent vnto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we knowe that thou art true, and teachest the way of God truely, neither carest for any man: for thou considerest not the person of men. |
| 22:17 | Tell vs therefore, how thinkest thou? Is it lawfull to giue tribute vnto Cesar, or not? |
| 22:18 | But Iesus perceiued their wickednes, and sayd, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? |
| 22:19 | Shewe me the tribute money. And they brought him a peny. |
| 22:20 | And he sayde vnto them, Whose is this image and superscription? |
| 22:21 | They sayd vnto him, Cesars. Then sayd he vnto them, Giue therefore to Cesar, the things which are Cesars, and giue vnto God, those things which are Gods. |
| 22:22 | And when they heard it, they marueiled, and left him, and went their way. |
| 22:23 | The same day the Sadduces came to him (which say that there is no resurrection) and asked him, |
| 22:24 | Saying, Master, Moses sayd, If a man die, hauing no children, his brother shall marie his wife by the right of alliance, and raise vp seede vnto his brother. |
| 22:25 | Nowe there were with vs seuen brethren, and the first maried a wife, and deceased: and hauing none yssue, left his wife vnto his brother. |
| 22:26 | Likewise also the second, and the third, vnto the seuenth. |
| 22:27 | And last of all the woman died also. |
| 22:28 | Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seuen? for all had her. |
| 22:29 | Then Iesus answered, and sayd vnto them, Ye are deceiued, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. |
| 22:30 | For in the resurrection they neither marie wiues, nor wiues are bestowed in mariage, but are as the Angels of God in heauen. |
| 22:31 | And concerning the resurrection of the dead, haue ye not read what is spoken vuto you of God, saying, |
| 22:32 | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the liuing. |
| 22:33 | And when the multitude heard it, they were astonied at his doctrine. |
| 22:34 | But when the Pharises had heard, that he had put the Sadduces to silence, they assembled together. |
| 22:35 | And one of them, which was an expounder of the Lawe, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, |
| 22:36 | Master, which is ye great commandement in the Lawe? |
| 22:37 | Iesus sayd to him, Thou shalt loue the Lord thy God with all thine heart, with all thy soule, and with all thy minde. |
| 22:38 | This is the first and the great commandement. |
| 22:39 | And the second is like vnto this, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour as thy selfe. |
| 22:40 | On these two commandements hangeth the whole Lawe, and the Prophets. |
| 22:41 | While the Pharises were gathered together, Iesus asked them, |
| 22:42 | Saying, What thinke ye of Christ? whose sonne is he? They sayd vnto him, Dauids. |
| 22:43 | He sayd vnto them, How then doeth Dauid in spirit call him Lord, saying, |
| 22:44 | The Lord sayd to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footestoole? |
| 22:45 | If then Dauid call him Lord, howe is he his sonne? |
| 22:46 | And none could answere him a worde, neither durst any from that day foorth aske him any moe questions. |
