23:2sayinge: The Scribes and the Phariseis sit in Moyses seate.
23:3All therfore whatsoeuer they bid you obserue, that obserue and do, but after their workes do not,
23:4for they say and do not. Yea, and they bynd heauy burthens and greuous to be borne and lay them on mens shoulders: but they them selfs will not heaue at them with one of theyr fyngers.
23:5All their workes thei do for to be sene of men. They set abroade theyr philateries, & make large borders on theyr garmentes,
23:6and loue to sit vppermoste at feastes, and to haue the chiefe seates in the Synagoges,
23:7and gretynges in the markettes, and too be called of men Rabbi.
23:8But ye shall not suffer youre selues to be called Rabbi. For one is your master, that is to witte Christ, and all ye are brethreu.
23:9And call no man your father vpon the earth, for there is but one your father, & he is in heauen.
23:10Be not called masters: for there is but one your master: and he is Christ.
23:11He that is greatest amonge you: shalbe your seruaunt.
23:12But whosoeuer exalteth hym selfe: shalbe brought lowe, and he that humbleth hym selfe, shalbe exalted.
23:13Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, for ye shut vp the kyngdome of heauen before men: ye youre selues go not in, neyther suffer ye them that come to enter in.
23:14Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, ye deuoure wyddowes houses, & that vnder a coloure of praieng long prayers wherfore ye shall receyue great damnacion.
23:15Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrites: which compasse sea and lande, to brynge one into youre belefe: and when he is brought ye make hym two folde more the chyld of hell: then ye your selues are.
23:16Wo be vnto you blynde guydes, whyche say whosoeuer sweare by the temple, it is nothing, but whosoeuer sweared by the golde of the temple: he offendeth.
23:17Ye fooles and blind, whither is greater, the golde, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
23:18And whosoeuer sweareth by the aultare, it is nothynge: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offeryng that lyeth on the aulter, offendeth.
23:19Ye fooles and blynde, whither is greater the offerynge, or the aulter whiche sanctifieth the offeryng?
23:20Whosoeuer therfore sweareth by the aultare, sweareth by it and by all that thereon is.
23:21And whosoeuer sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it and by hym that dwelleth therin.
23:22And he that sweareth by heauen sweareth by the seate of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23:23Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, which tythe mynte, anyse and commen, and leaue the wayghtyer matters of the lawe vndone: iudgement, mercy, and faythe. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue lefte the other vndone.
23:24Ye blynde guydes whiche strayne out a gnat, and swallowe a cammell.
23:25Wo be to you Scribes and Pharises hypocrites, which make cleane the vtter side of the cuppe, & of the platter: but within they are ful of bribery and excesse.
23:26Thou blynd Pharisei, clense first the ynneside of the cup & platter, that the outside of them may be clene also.
23:27Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrytes, for ye are lyke vnto paynted tombes, whiche appeare beautifull outwarde, but are within full of dead bones and of all filthines.
23:28So are ye, for outwarde ye apeare righteouse vnto men, when within, ye are full of hypocresie and iniquitie.
23:29Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrites, ye buylde the tombes of the Prophetes and garnysh the sepulchres of the righteouse,
23:30and saye: if we had bene in the dayes of our fathers, we woulde not haue bene parteners with them in the bloude of the Prophetes.
23:31So then ye be witnesses to your selues, that ye are the chyldren of them whyche kylled the Prophetes.
23:32Fulfil ye likewyse the measure of your fathers.
23:33Ye serpentes and generacion of vppers howe shoulde ye scape the damnacion of hell?
23:34Wherfore, behold I send vnto you Prophetes, wise men, & Scribes. Of them ye shal kyl and crucifye: and of them ye shall scourge in your synagoges, and persecute from citye to citye
23:35that vpon you may come all the ryghtuous bloude that was shede vpon the earth, from the bloude of ryghtuous Abel, vnto the bloude of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whom ye slewe betwene the tempel and the aulter.
23:36Verely I say vnto you, al these things shall lyght vpon this generation.
23:37Ierusalem, Ierusalem which killest prophetes, and stone them which are sent to the: howe often would I haue gathered thy children together: as the henne gathered her chikens vnder her winges, but ye would not.
23:38Beholde your habitation shalbe left vnto you desolate.
23:39For I saye to you, ye shall not se me hence forth tyll that ye saye blessed is he that commeth in the name of the Lorde.

23:1Then spake Iesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
23:2Saying, The Scribes and the Pharises sit in Moses seate.
23:3All therefore whatsoeuer they bid you obserue, that obserue and doe: but after their workes doe not: for they say, and doe not.
23:4For they binde heauie burdens, and grieuous to be borne, and lay them on mens shoulders, but they themselues will not moue them with one of their fingers.
23:5All their workes they doe for to be seene of men: for they make their phylacteries broad, and make long the frindges of their garments,
23:6And loue the chiefe place at feastes, and to haue the chiefe seates in the assemblies,
23:7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
23:8But be not ye called, Rabbi: for one is your doctour, to wit, Christ, and all ye are brethren.
23:9And call no man your father vpon the earth: for there is but one, your father which is in heauen.
23:10Be not called doctours: for one is your doctour, euen Christ.
23:11But he that is greatest among you, let him be your seruant.
23:12For whosoeuer will exalt himselfe, shall be brought lowe: and whosoeuer will humble himselfe, shalbe exalted.
23:13Wo therefore be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites, because ye shut vp the kingdome of heauen before men: for ye your selues go not in, neither suffer ye them that would enter, to come in.
23:14Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye deuoure widowes houses, euen vnder a colour of long prayers: wherefore ye shall receiue the greater damnation.
23:15Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye compasse sea and land to make one of your profession: and when he is made, ye make him two folde more the childe of hell, then you your selues.
23:16Wo be vnto you blinde guides, which say, Whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the golde of the Temple, he offendeth.
23:17Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the golde, or the Temple that sanctifieth the golde?
23:18And whosoeuer sweareth by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offering that is vpon it, offendeth.
23:19Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the offering, or the altar which sanctifieth the offering?
23:20Whosoeuer therefore sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
23:21And whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
23:22And he that sweareth by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23:23Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye tithe mynt, and annyse, and cummyn, and leaue the weightier matters of the law, as iudgement, and mercy and fidelitie. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue left the other.
23:24Ye blinde guides, which straine out a gnat, and swallowe a camell.
23:25Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye make cleane the vtter side of the cup, and of the platter: but within they are ful of briberie and excesse.
23:26Thou blinde Pharise, cleanse first the inside of the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be cleane also.
23:27Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye are like vnto whited tombes, which appeare beautifull outward, but are within full of dead mens bones, and all filthines.
23:28So are ye also: for outwarde ye appeare righteous vnto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisie and iniquitie.
23:29Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye build the tombes of the Prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
23:30And say, If we had bene in the dayes of our fathers, we would not haue bene partners with them in the blood of the Prophets.
23:31So then ye be witnesses vnto your selues, that ye are the children of them that murthered the Prophets.
23:32Fulfill ye also ye measure of your fathers.
23:33O serpents, the generation of vipers, howe should ye escape the damnation of hell!
23:34Wherefore beholde, I send vnto you Prophets, and wise men, and Scribes, and of them ye shall kill and crucifie: and of them shall ye scourge in your Synagogues, and persecute from citie to citie,
23:35That vpon you may come all the righteous blood that was shed vpon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous, vnto the blood of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whome ye slewe betweene the Temple and the altar.
23:36Verely I say vnto you, all these things shall come vpon this generation.
23:37Hierusalem, Hierusalem, which killest the Prophets, and stonest them which are sent to thee, how often would I haue gathered thy children together, as the henne gathereth her chickins vnder her wings, and ye would not!
23:38Beholde, your habitation shalbe left vnto you desolate,
23:39For I say vnto you, ye shall not see mee henceforth till that ye say, Blessed is he that commeth in the Name of the Lord.

23:1Then spake Iesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
23:2Saying, The Scribes and the Pharises sit in Moses seate:
23:3All therefore whatsoeuer they bid you obserue, that obserue and doe, but doe not ye after their workes: for they say, and doe not.
23:4For they binde heauie burdens, and grieuous to be borne, and lay them on mens shoulders, but they themselues will not mooue them with one of their fingers.
23:5But all their workes they doe, for to be seene of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
23:6And loue the vppermost roomes at feasts, and the chiefe seats in the Synagogues,
23:7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
23:8But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, euen Christ, and all ye are brethren.
23:9And call no man your father vpon the earth: for one is your father which is in heauen.
23:10Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, euen Christ.
23:11But hee that is greatest among you, shall be your seruant.
23:12And whosoeuer shall exalt himselfe, shall be abased: and he that shall humble himselfe, shall be exalted.
23:13But woe vnto you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for yee shut vp the kingdom of heauen against men: For yee neither goe in your selues, neither suffer ye them that are entring, to goe in.
23:14Woe vnto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for yee deuoure widowes houses, and for a pretence make long prayer; therefore ye shall receiue the greater damnation.
23:15Woe vnto you Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites; for yee compasse Sea and land to make one Proselyte, and when hee is made, yee make him two fold more the childe of hell then your selues.
23:16Woe vnto you, yee blind guides, which say, Whosoeuer shall sweare by the Temple, it is nothing: but whosoeuer shal sweare by the gold of the Temple, he is a debter.
23:17Ye fooles and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the Temple that sanctifieth the gold?
23:18And whosoeuer shall sweare by the Altar, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the gift that is vpon it, he is guiltie.
23:19Ye fooles and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the Altar that sanctifieth the gift?
23:20Who so therefore shall sweare by the Altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
23:21And who so shall sweare by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
23:22And he that shall sweare by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23:23Woe vnto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for yee pay tithe of mint, and annise, and cummine, and haue omitted the weightier matters of the Law, iudgement, mercie and faith: these ought ye to haue done, and not to leaue the other vndone.
23:24Ye blind guides, which straine at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
23:25Woe vnto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for yee make cleane the outside of the cup, and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excesse.
23:26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may bee cleane also.
23:27Woe vnto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for yee are like vnto whited sepulchres, which indeed appeare beautifull outward, but are within full of dead mens bones, and of all vncleannesse.
23:28Euen so, yee also outwardly appeare righteous vnto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisie and iniquitie.
23:29Woe vnto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because ye build the tombes of the Prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
23:30And say, If wee had beene in the dayes of our fathers, wee would not haue bene partakers with them in the blood of the Prophets.
23:31Wherefore ye bee witnesses vnto your selues, that yee are the children of them which killed the Prophets.
23:32Fil ye vp then the measure of your fathers.
23:33Yee serpents, yee generation of vipers, How can yee escape the damnation of hell?
23:34Wherefore behold, I send vnto you Prophets, and wisemen, and Scribes, and some of them yee shall kill and crucifie, and some of them shall yee scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from citie to citie:
23:35That vpon you may come all the righteous blood shed vpon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, vnto the blood of Zacharias, sonne of Barachias, whom yee slew betweene the temple and the altar.
23:36Uerily I say vnto you, All these things shal come vpon this generation.
23:37O Hierusalem, Hierusalem, thou that killest the Prophets, and stonest them which are sent vnto thee, how often would I haue gathered thy children together, euen as a hen gathereth her chickens vnder her wings, and yee would not?
23:38Behold, your house is left vnto you desolate.
23:39For I say vnto you, yee shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that commeth in the Name of the Lord.
