23:24Blynde lederis, clensinge a gnatte, but swolewynge a camel.
23:25Woo to you, scribis and Farisees, ypocritis, that clensen the cuppe and the plater with outforth; but with ynne ye ben ful of raueyne and vnclennesse.
23:26Thou blynde Farisee, clense the cuppe and the plater with ynneforth, that that that is with outforth be maad clene.
23:27Wo to you, scribis and Farisees, ipocritis, that ben lijk to sepulcris whitid, whiche with outforth semen faire to men; but with ynne thei ben fulle of boonus of deed men, and of al filthe.

23:29Wo to you, scribis and Farisees, ipocritis, that bilden sepulcris of profetis, and maken faire the birielis of iust men,

23:31And so ye ben in witnessyng to you silf, that ye ben the sones of hem that slowen the prophetis.

23:1Then spake Iesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
23:2Saying, The Scribes and the Pharises sit in Moses seate.
23:3All therefore whatsoeuer they bid you obserue, that obserue and doe: but after their workes doe not: for they say, and doe not.
23:4For they binde heauie burdens, and grieuous to be borne, and lay them on mens shoulders, but they themselues will not moue them with one of their fingers.
23:5All their workes they doe for to be seene of men: for they make their phylacteries broad, and make long the frindges of their garments,
23:6And loue the chiefe place at feastes, and to haue the chiefe seates in the assemblies,
23:7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
23:8But be not ye called, Rabbi: for one is your doctour, to wit, Christ, and all ye are brethren.
23:9And call no man your father vpon the earth: for there is but one, your father which is in heauen.
23:10Be not called doctours: for one is your doctour, euen Christ.
23:11But he that is greatest among you, let him be your seruant.
23:12For whosoeuer will exalt himselfe, shall be brought lowe: and whosoeuer will humble himselfe, shalbe exalted.
23:13Wo therefore be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites, because ye shut vp the kingdome of heauen before men: for ye your selues go not in, neither suffer ye them that would enter, to come in.
23:14Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye deuoure widowes houses, euen vnder a colour of long prayers: wherefore ye shall receiue the greater damnation.
23:15Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye compasse sea and land to make one of your profession: and when he is made, ye make him two folde more the childe of hell, then you your selues.
23:16Wo be vnto you blinde guides, which say, Whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the golde of the Temple, he offendeth.
23:17Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the golde, or the Temple that sanctifieth the golde?
23:18And whosoeuer sweareth by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offering that is vpon it, offendeth.
23:19Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the offering, or the altar which sanctifieth the offering?
23:20Whosoeuer therefore sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
23:21And whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
23:22And he that sweareth by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23:23Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye tithe mynt, and annyse, and cummyn, and leaue the weightier matters of the law, as iudgement, and mercy and fidelitie. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue left the other.
23:24Ye blinde guides, which straine out a gnat, and swallowe a camell.
23:25Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye make cleane the vtter side of the cup, and of the platter: but within they are ful of briberie and excesse.
23:26Thou blinde Pharise, cleanse first the inside of the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be cleane also.
23:27Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye are like vnto whited tombes, which appeare beautifull outward, but are within full of dead mens bones, and all filthines.
23:28So are ye also: for outwarde ye appeare righteous vnto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisie and iniquitie.
23:29Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye build the tombes of the Prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
23:30And say, If we had bene in the dayes of our fathers, we would not haue bene partners with them in the blood of the Prophets.
23:31So then ye be witnesses vnto your selues, that ye are the children of them that murthered the Prophets.
23:32Fulfill ye also ye measure of your fathers.
23:33O serpents, the generation of vipers, howe should ye escape the damnation of hell!
23:34Wherefore beholde, I send vnto you Prophets, and wise men, and Scribes, and of them ye shall kill and crucifie: and of them shall ye scourge in your Synagogues, and persecute from citie to citie,
23:35That vpon you may come all the righteous blood that was shed vpon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous, vnto the blood of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whome ye slewe betweene the Temple and the altar.
23:36Verely I say vnto you, all these things shall come vpon this generation.
23:37Hierusalem, Hierusalem, which killest the Prophets, and stonest them which are sent to thee, how often would I haue gathered thy children together, as the henne gathereth her chickins vnder her wings, and ye would not!
23:38Beholde, your habitation shalbe left vnto you desolate,
23:39For I say vnto you, ye shall not see mee henceforth till that ye say, Blessed is he that commeth in the Name of the Lord.

23:1Then Jesus spoke to the crowd and to His disciples,
23:2saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat."
23:3Everything then, whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; because they preach, and do not practice."
23:4Because, they bind heavy burdens, hard to carry, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers."
23:5But they do their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the edges of their garments."
23:6They love the best places at feasts, the first seats in the synagogues,"
23:7greetings in the markets, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.'"
23:8But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; because, One is your Teacher, that is, Christ, and you are all brethren."
23:9And do not call anyone on earth your father; because One is your Father, who is in heaven."
23:10Nor be called teachers; because One is your Teacher, that is, Christ."
23:11But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant."
23:12And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
23:13"But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; because you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in."
23:14Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers. Therefore you will receive the greater damnation."
23:15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you travel land and sea to make one proselyte, and when he is converted, you make him twice as much the child of hell as yourselves."
23:16"Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated!'"
23:17You fools and blind! Because which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?"
23:18And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.'"
23:19You fools and blind! Because which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?"
23:20Therefore whoever swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it."
23:21And whoever swears by the temple, swears by it, and by Him who dwells in it."
23:22And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it."
23:23Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law: judgment, mercy, and faith. You should have done these, without leaving the others undone."
23:24You blind guides, who strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel!"
23:25"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and excess."
23:26You blind Pharisee, first cleanse that which is inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also."
23:27"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness."
23:28Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity."
23:29"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,"
23:30and say, 'If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.'"
23:31"Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are the children of those who killed the prophets."
23:32Fill up then the measure of your fathers."
23:33You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell?"
23:34Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes: and some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city,"
23:35that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar."
23:36Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation."
23:37"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets, and stone those who are sent to you! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!"
23:38Behold! Your house is left to you desolate;"
23:39because, I say to you, You will see me no more until you shall say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD.'"
