8:1	In those dayes when ther was a very great company, and had nothynge to eate. Iesus called his disciples to him, and sayde vnto them:
8:2	I haue compassion on the people, because they haue nowe bene wt me thre dayes, and haue nothing to eate:
8:3	and yf I sende them a waye fastyng to theyr awne houses, they shall faynt by the waye. For diuers of them came from farre.
8:4	And his discyples answered hym: where shulde a man haue bread here in the wyldernes to satysfye these?
8:5	And he asked them: how many loues haue ye? They sayde: seuen.
8:6	And he commaunded the people to syt downe on the grounde. And he toke the seuen loaues, and whan he had geuen thanckes, he brake, and gaue to hys dyscyples, to set before them. And they did set them before the people.
8:7	And they had a fewe small fysshes. And whan he had blessed, he commaunded them also to be sett before them.
8:8	And they dyd eate, and were suffysed. And they toke vp of the broken meate that was left seuen baskettes full.
8:9	And they that dyd eate: were about foure thousande. And he sent them awaye.
8:10	And anone he entred into a shyp with his disciples, and came into the parties of Dalmanutha.
8:11	And the Pharyses came forth, and beganne to dispute with hym, sekynge of hym a sygne from heauen, temptynge hym.
8:12	And whan he had syghted in hys sprete, he sayeth: why doth thys generacyon seke a sygne? Uerely I saye vnto you, there shall no sygne be geuen vnto thys generacyon.
8:13	And he left them, and went into the ship agayne, and departed ouer the water.
8:14	And they had forgotten to take bread wt them, nether had they in the shyp with them more then one loafe.
8:15	And he charged them, saying. Take hede, beware of the leuen of the Pharises, and of the leuen of Herode.
8:16	And they reasoned amonge them selues sayenge: We haue no bread.
8:17	And Iesus knewe it, and saith vnto them: why take ye thought, because ye haue no breed? perceaue ye not yet nether vnderstande? Haue ye youre hert yet blynded?
8:18	Haue ye eyes, and se not? and haue ye eares, and heare not? Do ye not also remembre?
8:19	When I brake fyue loaues among fyue thousande men, how many baskettes full of broken meat toke ye vp? They saye vnto him, twelue.
8:20	When I brake seuen amonge foure thousand, how many baskettes of the leauynges of the broken meate toke ye vp? They sayd: seuen.
8:21	And he sayd vnto them: how happeneth it that ye do not vnderstande?
8:22	And he came to Bethsayda, and they brought a blinde man vnto hym, and desired hym to touche him.
8:23	And he caught the blynde by the hand, and lead him out of the towne: and whan he had spyt in his eyes, and put his handes vpon him, he asked him yf he sawe ought.
8:24	And he loked vp, & sayd: I se the men: for I perceaue them walke, as they were trees.
8:25	After that, he put hys handes agayne vpon hys eyes, and made hym se. And he was restored, and sawe euery man clearly.
8:26	And he sent him home to his house, saieng: nether go into the towne, ner tel it to eny in the towne.
8:27	And Iesus went out, & hys disciples into the townes that longe to the cytie called, Cesarea Philippi. And by the waye he asked his disciples, saying vnto them: whom do men saye that I am?
8:28	And they answered: some saye, that thou art Iohn baptist, & some saye, Helias. Agayne, some saye, that that thou arte one of the nombre of the prophetes.
8:29	And he sayde vnto them: but whom saye ye that I am? Peter answereth & sayth vnto him: thou art very Christ.
8:30	And he charged them, that they shulde tell no man of him.
8:31	And he beganne to teach them how that the sonne of man must suffre many thinges, and be reproued of the elders, and of the hye prestes, and scribes, and be kylled, & after thre dayes aryse agayne.
8:32	And he spake that sayinge openly. And Peter toke hym aside, and began to chyde him.
8:33	But he turned about, and loked on hys disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying: Go after me Satan. For thou sauerest not the thinges that be of God, but the thynges that be of men.
8:34	And when he had called the people vnto hym with hys discyples also, he sayde vnto them. Whosoeuer wyll folowe me, lett hym forsake him self, and take vp hys crosse, and folowe me.
8:35	For whosoeuer wil saue his life, shal lose it. But whosoeuer shal lose his life, for my sake & the gospels, the same shall saue it.
8:36	For what shall it profet a man, yf he wynne all the world, and lose his awne soule:
8:37	or what shall a man geue to redeme hys soule with all agayne?
8:38	Whosoeuer therfore shalbe asshamed of me and of my wordes, in thys aduoutrous and synfull generacion: of hym also shall the sonne of man be asshamed, when he commeth in the glorye of hys father with the holy angels.


8:1	In tho daies eft, whanne myche puple was with Jhesu, and hadden not what thei schulden ete, whanne hise disciplis weren clepid togidir,
8:2	he seide to hem, I haue reuth on the puple, for lo! now the thridde dai thei abiden me, and han not what to ete;
8:3	and if Y leeue hem fastynge in to her hous, thei schulen faile in the weie; for summe of hem camen fro fer.
8:4	And hise disciplis answerden to hym, Wherof schal a man mowe fille hem with looues here in wildirnesse?
8:5	And he axide hem, Hou many looues han ye?
8:6	Whiche seiden, Seuene. And he comaundide the puple to sitte doun on the erthe. And he took the seuene looues, and dide thankyngis, and brak, and yaf to hise disciplis, that thei schulden sette forth. And thei settiden forth to the puple.
8:7	And thei hadden a few smale fischis; and he blesside hem, and comaundide, that thei weren sette forth.
8:8	And thei eten, and weren fulfillid; and thei token vp that that lefte of relifs, seuene lepis.
8:9	And thei that eeten, weren as foure thousynde of men; and he lefte hem.
8:10	And anoon he wente vp in to a boot, with hise disciplis, and cam in to the coostis of Dalmamytha.
8:11	And the Farisees wenten out, and bigunnen to dispuyte with hym, and axiden a tokne of hym fro heuene, and temptiden hym.
8:12	And he sorewynge `with ynne in spirit, seide, What sekith this generacioun a tokne? Treuli Y seie to you, a tokene schal not be youun to this generacioun.
8:13	And he lefte hem, and wente vp eftsoone in to a boot, and wente ouer the see.
8:14	And thei foryaten to take breed, and thei hadden not with hem but o loof in the boot.
8:15	And he comaundide hem, and seide, Se ye, and `be war of the sowre dowy of Farisees, and of the sowrdowy of Eroude.
8:16	And thei thouyten, and seiden oon to anothir, For we han not looues.
8:17	And whanne this thing was knowun, Jhesus seide to hem, What thenken ye, for ye han not looues? Yit ye knowun not, ne vndurstonden; yit ye han youre herte blyndid.
8:18	Ye hauynge iyen, seen not, and ye hauynge eeris, heren not; nethir ye han mynde,
8:19	whanne Y brak fyue looues among fyue thousynde, and hou many cofynes ful of brokun meete `ye tokun vp? Thei seien to hym, Twelue.
8:20	Whanne also seuene looues among foure thousynde of men, hou many lepis of brokun mete tokun ye vp?
8:21	And thei seien to hym, Seuene. And he seide to hem, Hou vndurstonden ye not yit?
8:22	And thei camen to Bethsaida, and thei bryngen to hym a blynde man, and thei preieden hym, that he schulde touche hym.
8:23	And whanne he hadde take the blynde mannus hoond, he ledde hym out of the street, and spete in to hise iyen, and sette hise hoondis on hym; and he axide hym, if he saye ony thing.
8:24	And he bihelde, and seide, Y se men as trees walkynge.
8:25	Aftirward eftsoones he sette hise hondis on hise iyen, and he bigan to see, and he was restorid, so that he saiy cleerli alle thingis.
8:26	And he sente hym in to his hous, and seide, Go in to thin hous; and if thou goist in to the streete, seie to no man.
8:27	And Jhesus entride and hise disciplis in to the castels of Cesarye of Philip. And in the weie he axide hise disciplis, and seide to hem, Whom seien men that Y am?
8:28	Whiche answeriden to hym, and seiden, Summen seien, Joon Baptist; other seien, Heli; and other seien, as oon of the prophetis.
8:29	Thanne he seith to hem, But whom seien ye that Y am? Petre answeride, and seide to hym, Thou art Crist.
8:30	And he chargide hem, that thei schulden not seie of hym to ony man.
8:31	And he bigan to teche hem, that it bihoueth mannus sone to suffre many thingis, and to be repreued of the elder men, and of the hiyest prestis, and the scribis, and to be slayn, and aftir thre dayes, to rise ayen.
8:32	And he spak pleynli the word. And Peter took hym, and bigan to blame hym, and seide, Lord, be thou merciful to thee, for this schal not be.
8:33	And he turnede, and saiy hise disciplis, and manasside Petir, and seide, Go after me, Satanas; for thou sauerist not tho thingis that ben of God, but tho thingis that ben of men.
8:34	And whanne the puple was clepid togidere, with hise disciplis, he seide to hem, If ony man wole come after me, denye he hym silf, and take his cros, and sue he me.
8:35	For he that wole make saaf his lijf, schal leese it; and he that leesith his lijf for me, and for the gospel, schal make it saaf.
8:36	For what profitith it to a man, if he wynne al the world, and do peiryng to his soule?
8:37	or what chaunging schal a man yyue for his soule?
8:38	But who that knoulechith me and my wordis in this generacioun avowtresse and synful, also mannus sone schal knouleche him, whanne he schal come in the glorie of his fadir, with his aungels.

8:9	And they yt ate, were vpo a foure thousande. And he sent the awaye.
8:10	And forth with he wente in to a shippe with his disciples, and came in to the coastes of Dalmanutha.
8:11	And the Pharises wente out, and begane to dispute with him, and tempted him, and desyred a token of him from heaue.
8:12	And he sighed in his sprete, and sayde: Why doth this generacion seke a token? Verely I saye vnto you: There shal no toke be geue vnto this generacion.
8:13	And he left them, and wete againe into the shippe, and passed ouer.
8:14	And they forgat to take bred with them, and had nomore with them in the shippe but one loaf.
8:15	And he comaunded them, and sayde: Take hede, and bewarre of the leuen of the Pharises, and of the leuen of Herode.
8:16	And their myndes wauered here and there, and sayde amonge them selues: This is it, that we haue no bred.
8:17	And Iesus vnderstode that, and sayde vnto them: Why trouble ye youre selues, that ye haue no bred? Are ye yet without vnderstondinge? Haue ye yet a blynded hert in you?
8:18	Haue ye eyes, & se not? and haue ye eares, and heare not? and remebre ye not,
8:19	that I brake fyue loaues amonge fyue thousande, how many basskettes full of broken meate toke ye then vp? They sayde: twolue.
8:20	And whan I brake the seuen amonge the foure thousande, how many baskettes full of broken meate toke ye then vp? They sayde: Seuen.
8:21	And he sayde vnto the: Why are ye then without vnderstondinge?
8:22	And he came to Bethsaida, & they brought one blynde vnto him, and prayed him to touch him.
8:23	And he toke the blynde by the hande, aud led him out of the towne, and spat in his eyes, and layed his handes vpon him, and axed him whether he sawe ought.
8:24	And he loked vp, and sayde: I se men goynge as yf I sawe trees.
8:25	After this he layed his handes vpon his eyes ageyne, and made him to se. And he was brought to right againe, and sawe all clearly.
8:26	And he sent him home, and sayde: Go not in to ye towne, and tell it also vnto noman therin.
8:27	And Iesus wente out and his disciples into the townes of the cite Cesarea Philippi, And in ye waye he axed his disciples and sayde vnto them: What do men saye, that I am?
8:28	They answered: They saye, thou art Ihon the baptist: Some saye thou art Elias, some that thou art one of the prophetes.
8:29	And he sayde vnto them: But whom saye ye that I am? Then answered Peter and sayde vnto him: Thou art very Christ.
8:30	And he charged them strately, that they shulde tell no man of him.
8:31	And he begane to teach them: The sonne of man must suffre many thinges, and be cast out of the elders & hye prestes and scrybes, and be put to death, and after thre dayes ryse agayne.
8:32	And that worde spake he fre openly. And Peter toke him vnto him, and beganne to rebuke him.
8:33	But he turned him aboute, and loked vpon his disciples, and reproued Peter, and sayde: Go after me thou Sathan, for thou sauourest not the thinges that be of God, but of men.
8:34	And he called vnto him the people with his disciples, and sayde vnto them: Who so euer wyl folowe me, let him denye himself, and take vp his crosse, and folowe me.
8:35	For who so euer wyl saue his life, shal lose it: and who so euer loseth his life for my sake and ye gospels, ye same shal saue it.
8:36	What helpeth it a ma though he wane the whole worlde, and yet toke harme in his soule?
8:37	Or, what can a man geue, to redeme his soule withall?
8:38	Who so euer is ashamed of me and of my wordes amonge this aduouterous and synfull generacion, of him shal the sonne of man also be ashamed, whan he commeth in the glory of his father with the holy angels.
