| 16:1 | And hee said also vnto his disciples, There was a certaine rich man which had a Steward, and the same was accused vnto him that he had wasted his goods. |
| 16:2 | And hee called him, and said vnto him, How is it that I heare this of thee? Giue an accompt of thy stewardship: for thou mayest bee no longer Steward. |
| 16:3 | Then the Steward said within himselfe, What shall I doe, for my lord taketh away from mee the Stewardship? I cannot digge, to begge I am ashamed. |
| 16:4 | I am resolued what to doe, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receiue me into their houses. |
| 16:5 | So hee called euery one of his lords detters vnto him, and said vnto the first, How much owest thou vnto my lord? |
| 16:6 | And hee said, An hundred measures of oyle. And hee saide vnto him, Take thy bill, and sit downe quickly, and write fiftie. |
| 16:7 | Then said hee to another, And how much owest thou? And hee said, An hundred measures of wheat. And hee saide vnto him, Take thy bill and write fourescore. |
| 16:8 | And the lord commended the vniust Steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser then the children of light. |
| 16:9 | And I say vnto you, Make to your selues friends of the Mammon of vnrighteousnesse, that when ye faile, they may receiue you into euerlasting habitations. |
| 16:10 | Hee that is faithfull in that which is least, is faithfull also in much: and he that is vniust in the least, is vniust also in much. |
| 16:11 | If therefore yee haue not bene faithfull in the vnrighteous Mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? |
| 16:12 | And if ye haue not bene faithful in that which is another mans, who shall giue you that which is your owne? |
| 16:13 | No seruant can serue two masters, for either he will hate the one, and loue the other: or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other: yee cannot serue God and Mammon. |
| 16:14 | And the Pharisees also who were couetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. |
| 16:15 | And he said vnto them, Ye are they which iustifie your selues before men, but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed amongst men, is abomination in the sight of God. |
| 16:16 | The law and the Prophets were vntill Iohn: since that time the kingdome of God is preached, and euery man preasseth into it. |
| 16:17 | And it is easier for heauen and earth to passe, then one title of the law to faile. |
| 16:18 | Whosoeuer putteth away his wife, & marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoeuer marrieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adultery. |
| 16:19 | There was a certaine rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linnen, and fared sumptuously euery day. |
| 16:20 | And there was a certaine begger named Lazarus, which was layde at his gate full of sores, |
| 16:21 | And desiring to bee fed with the crummes which fel from the rich mans table: moreouer the dogges came and licked his sores. |
| 16:22 | And it came to passe that the begger died, and was caried by the Angels into Abrahams bosome: the rich man also died, and was buried. |
| 16:23 | And in hell he lift vp his eyes being in torments, and seeth Abraham afarre off, and Lazarus in his bosome: |
| 16:24 | And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, haue mercy on mee, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and coole my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame. |
| 16:25 | But Abraham saide, Sonne, remember that thou in thy life-time receiuedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus euill things, but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. |
| 16:26 | And besides all this, betweene vs and you there is a great gulfe fixed, so that they which would passe from hence to you, cannot, neither can they passe to vs, that would come from thence. |
| 16:27 | Then he said, I pray thee therefore father, that thou wouldest send him to my fathers house: |
| 16:28 | For I haue fiue brethren, that he may testifie vnto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. |
| 16:29 | Abraham saith vnto him, They haue Moses and the Prophets, let them heare them. |
| 16:30 | And hee said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went vnto them from the dead, they will repent. |
| 16:31 | And hee said vnto him, If they heare not Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be perswaded, though one rose from the dead. |

| 16:2 | And he called him, and sayde vnto him: How is it, that I heare this of the? geue acomptes of yi stewardshipe, for thou mayest be no longer stewarde. |
| 16:3 | The stewarde sayde within himself: What shal I do? My lorde wil take awaye the stewardshipe fro me. I ca not dygge, and to begg I am ashamed. |
| 16:4 | I wote what I wil do, that wha I am put out of the stewardshipe, they maye receaue me in to their houses. |
| 16:5 | And he called vnto hi all his lordes detters, and sayde vnto the first: How moch owest thou vnto my lorde? |
| 16:6 | He sayde: an hundreth tonnes of oyle. And he sayde: Take yi byll, syt downe quyckly, & wryte fiftie. |
| 16:7 | Then sayde he vnto another: How moch owest thou? He sayde: an hundreth quarters of wheate. And he sayde vnto him: Take thy byll, and wryte foure score. |
| 16:8 | And the lorde comended the vnrighteous stewarde, because he had done wysely. For the children of this worlde are in their kynde wyser, the the children of light. |
| 16:9 | And I saye vnto you: Make you frendes with the vnrighteous Mammon, yt whan ye shal haue nede, they maye receaue you in to euerlastinge Tabernacles. |
| 16:10 | He that is faithfull in the least, is faithfull also in moch: and he that is vnrighteous in the least, is vnrighteous also in moch. |
| 16:11 | Yf ye then haue not bene faithfull in the vnrighteous Mammon, who wyll beleue you in that which is true? |
| 16:12 | And yf ye haue not bene faithfull in anothers mans busynesse, who wil geue you that which is youre awne? |
| 16:13 | No seruaunt can serue two masters: for either he shal hate the one, and loue ye other: or els he shal leane to the one, and despyse the other. Ye can not serue God and Mammon. |
| 16:14 | All these thinges herde the Pharises, which were couetous, and they mocked hi. |
| 16:15 | And he sayde vnto them: Ye are they that iustifie yor selues before men, but God knoweth youre hertes. For yt which is hye amonge men, is an abhominacion before God. |
| 16:16 | The lawe and ye prophetes prophecied vnto Ihon, and from that tyme forth is ye kyngdome of God preached thorow ye Gospell, and euery man preasseth in to it by violence. |
| 16:17 | But easier is it, for heauen and earth to perishe, then one tittle of ye lawe to fall. |
| 16:18 | Who so euer putteth awaye his wife, & marieth another, breaketh matrimonye: and he that marieth her which is deuorced fro hir hussbande, breaketh wedlocke also. |
| 16:19 | There was a certayne riche man, which clothed him self with purple and costly lynnen, and fared deliciously euery daye. |
| 16:20 | And there was a poore man named Lazarus which laye at his gate full of sores, |
| 16:21 | and desyred to be fylled with the crommes, that fell from the riche mans table. Yet came the dogges, and licked his sores. |
| 16:22 | But it fortuned, that the poore man dyed, and was caried of the angels in to Abrahams bosome. The riche man dyed also, and was buried. |
| 16:23 | Now whan he was in the hell, he lift vp his eyes in the payne, and sawe Abraham afarre of, and Lazarus in his bosome: |
| 16:24 | and he cried, and sayde: Father Abraham, haue mercy vpon me, and sende Lazarus, that he maye dyppe the typpe of his fynger in water, & coole my tonge, for I am tormeted in this flame. |
| 16:25 | But Abraha saide: Remebre sonne, yt thou hast receaued good in yi life, & contrary wyse Lazarus receaued euell. But now is he comforted, and thou art tormented. |
| 16:26 | And beside all this, there is a greate space set betwene vs and you: so yt they which wolde go downe from hence vnto you, cannot: nether maye they passe ouer from thence vnto vs. |
| 16:27 | Then sayde he: I pray the then father, that thou wilt sende him vnto my fathers house, |
| 16:28 | for I haue yet fyue brethren, that he maye warne them, lest they also come in to this place of torment. |
| 16:29 | Abraham sayde vnto him: They haue Moses and the prophetes, let them heare them. |
| 16:30 | But he sayde: Nay father Abraham, but yf one wente vnto them fro the deed, they wolde do pennaunce. |
| 16:31 | Neuertheles he sayde vnto him: Yf they heare not Moses & the prophetes, then shal they not beleue also, though one rose agayne fro the deed. |
| 16:1 | He seide also to hise disciplis, Ther was a riche man, that hadde a baili; and this was defamed to him, as he hadde wastid his goodis. |
| 16:2 | And he clepide hym, and seide to hym, What here Y this thing of thee? yelde reckynyng of thi baili, for thou miyte not now be baili. |
| 16:3 | And the baili seide with ynne him silf, What schal Y do, for my lord takith awei fro me the baili? delfe mai Y not, I schame to begge. |
| 16:4 | Y woot what Y schal do, that whanne Y am remeued fro the baili, thei resseyue me in to her hous. |
| 16:5 | Therfor whanne alle the dettours of his lord weren clepid togider, he seide to the firste, Hou myche owist thou to my lord? |
| 16:6 | And he seide, An hundrid barelis of oyle. And he seide to hym, Take thi caucioun, and sitte soone, and write fifti. |
| 16:7 | Aftirward he seide to another, And hou myche owist thou? Which answerde, An hundrid coris of whete. And he seide to hym, Take thi lettris, and write foure scoore. |
| 16:8 | And the lord preiside the baili of wickydnesse, for he hadde do prudentli; for the sones of this world ben more prudent in her generacioun than the sones of liyt. |
| 16:9 | And Y seie to you, make ye to you freendis of the ritchesse of wickidnesse, that whanne ye schulen fayle, thei resseyue you in to euerlastynge tabernaclis. |
| 16:10 | He that is trewe in the leeste thing, is trewe also in the more; and he that is wickid in a litil thing, is wickid also in the more. |
| 16:11 | Therfor if ye weren not trewe in the wickid thing of ritchesse, who schal bitake to you that that is verry? |
| 16:12 | And if ye weren not trewe in othere mennus thing, who schal yyue to you that that is youre? |
| 16:13 | No seruaunt may serue to twei lordis; for ether he schal hate `the toon, and loue the tothir; ethir he schal drawe to `the toon, and schal dispise the tothir. Ye moun not serue to God and to ritchesse. |
| 16:14 | But the Farisees, that weren coueytous, herden alle these thingis, and thei scorneden hym. |
| 16:15 | And he seide to hem, Ye it ben, that iustifien you bifor men; but God hath knowun youre hertis, for that that is hiy to men, is abhomynacioun bifor God. |
| 16:16 | The lawe and prophetis til to Joon; fro that tyme the rewme of God is euangelisid, and ech man doith violence in to it. |
| 16:17 | Forsothe it is liyter heuene and erthe to passe, than that o titil falle fro the lawe. |
| 16:18 | Euery man that forsakith his wijf, and weddith an other, doith letcherie; and he that weddith the wijf forsakun of the hosebonde, doith auowtrie. |
| 16:19 | There was a riche man, and was clothid in purpur, and whit silk, and eete euery dai schynyngli. |
| 16:20 | And there was a begger, Lazarus bi name, that lai at his yate ful of bilis, |
| 16:21 | and coueitide to be fulfillid of the crummes, that fellen doun fro the riche mannus boord, and no man yaf to hym; but houndis camen, and lickiden hise bilis. |
| 16:22 | And it was don, that the begger diede, and was borun of aungels in to Abrahams bosum. |
| 16:23 | And the riche man was deed also, and was biried in helle. And he reiside hise iyen, whanne he was in turmentis, and say Abraham afer, and Lazarus in his bosum. |
| 16:24 | And he criede, and seide, Fadir Abraham, haue merci on me, and sende Lazarus, that he dippe the ende of his fyngur in watir, to kele my tunge; for Y am turmentid in this flawme. |
| 16:25 | And Abraham seide to hym, Sone, haue mynde, for thou hast resseyued good thingis in thi lijf, and Lazarus also yuel thingis; but he is now coumfortid, and thou art turmentid. |
| 16:26 | And in alle these thingis a greet derk place is stablischid betwixe vs and you; that thei that wolen fro hennus passe to you, moun not, nethir fro thennus passe ouer hidur. |
| 16:27 | And he seide, Thanne Y preie thee, fadir, that thou sende hym in to the hous of my fadir. |
| 16:28 | For Y haue fyue britheren, that he witnesse to hem, lest also thei come in to this place of turmentis. |
| 16:29 | And Abraham seide to him, Thei han Moyses and the prophetis; here thei hem. |
| 16:30 | And he seide, Nay, fadir Abraham, but if ony of deed men go to hem, thei schulen do penaunce. |
| 16:31 | And he seide to hym, If thei heren not Moises and prophetis, nethir if ony of deed men rise ayen, thei schulen bileue to hym. |
