Luke - Chapter: 20

>
20:1And it fortuned in one of those dayes as he taught the people in the temple, & preached the gospel: the hye priestes & the scribes came with the elders,
20:2and spake vnto hym saiyng: Tell vs by what authoritie thou doest these thynges? Eyther who is he that gaue the this authoritie?
20:3He aunswered & said vnto them: I also will axe you a question: and aunswere me.
20:4The baptysine of Iohn, was it from heauen or of men?
20:5And they thought wtin them selues, saiyng: yf we shal say, from heauen, he wil say: why then beleued ye him not?
20:6But and yf we shall saye of men, all the people wyll stone vs. For they be perswaded that Iohn is a Prophet.
20:7And they aunswered that they coulde not tell whence it was.
20:8And Iesus sayde to them: neyther tell I you by what authorite I do these thinges.
20:9Then beganne he to put forthe to the people, thys similitude. A certayne man planted a vineyarde, and let it forthe to fermers, and went hym selfe into a straunge countre for a greate season.
20:10And when the tyme was come, he sente a seruaunt to hys tenauntes that they shoulde geue hym of the fruytes of the vyneyarde. And the tenauntes dyd beate hym, & sent him awaye empty.
20:11And agayne he sent yet another seruaunt. And they dyd beate him, & foule entreated hym also, & sent hym awaye emptye.
20:12Moreouer, he sent the third to, & hym they wounded, and cast out.
20:13Then sayde the Lorde of the vineyarde: what shall I do? I wil sende my deare sonne, hym peraduenture they wyll reuerence, when they se hym.
20:14But when the fermers sawe hym, they thoughte in them selues sayinge: thys is the hyre, come let vs kyl him, that the inheritaunce maye be oures.
20:15And they cast hym out of the vineyarde, & kylled him. Now what shall the Lorde of the vyneyarde do vnto them?
20:16He wyll come and destroye those fermers, and wyl let out his vineyarde to other: When they heard that, they sayde: God forbyd.
20:17And he behelde them, and sayde: what meaneth this then that is wryten. The stone that the buylders refused, the same is made the head corner stone?
20:18Whosoeuer stomble at that stone shalbe broken: but on whomesoeuer it fal vpon it wyll grynde hym to powder.
20:19And the hye priestes and the scrybes the same houre wente aboute to laye handes on him, but they feared the people. For they perceiued that he had spoken thys similitude against them.
20:20And they watched hym, and sent forthe spyes whiche shoulde fayne them selues perfect, to take him in his wordes, and to delyuer him vnto the power and authoritie of the debitie.
20:21And they axed him, saiynge: Mayster, we knowe that thou sayest and teachest right, neyther consyderest thou any mans degree, but teachest the waye of God truely.
20:22Is it laufull for vs to geue Cesar tribute or no?
20:23He perceyued theyr craftynes, and sayde vnto them. Why tempt ye me?
20:24shewe me a peny. Whose ymage and superscription hath it? They aunswered and sayde: Cesars.
20:25And he sayed vnto them: Geue then vnto Cesar, that which belongeth vnto Cesar: and to God that which partayneth to God.
20:26And they coulde not reproue his saiynge before the people. But they maruayled at hys aunswere, and helde theyr peace.
20:27Then came to him certaine of the Saduces which denye that there is anye resurreccyon. And they axed him,
20:28saiynge: Maister, Moyses wrote vnto vs, yf anye mans brother dye hauyng a wyfe, and the same dye without yssue that then his brother shoulde take his wyfe, and rayse vp seede vnto hys brother.
20:29There were .vij. brethren, and the fyrst toke a wyfe, & dyed without chyldren.
20:30And the seconde toke the wyfe, and he dyed childlesse:
20:31And the third toke her, and in likewyse the residue of the seuen. and left no chyldren behynde them, and died.
20:32Laste of all the woman dyed also.
20:33Nowe at the resurreccyon whose wife of them shal she be? For seuen had her to wyfe.
20:34Iesus aunswered, & sayde vnto them. The chyldren of this world mary wyues, & are maryed.
20:35But they which shalbe made worthy to enioye that worlde and the resurreccyon from death, neyther marye wyues, neyther are maryed,
20:36nor yet can dye anye more. For they are equal vnto the angels, & are the sonnes of god in as muche as they are the chyldren of the resurreccion.
20:37And that the dead shal ryse agayne euen. Moises signifyed besides the bushe, when he sayed: The Lord God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob.
20:38For he is not the God of the dead, but of them which lyue. For al lyue in him.
20:39Then certayne of the Pharises aunswered and sayd: Mayster thou haste wel sayde.
20:40And after that durst they not axe him any question at all.
20:41Then sayde he vnto them: how saye they, that Christe is Dauides sonne?
20:42And Dauid hym selfe sayth in the boke of the Psalmes. The Lorde sayde vnto my Lorde, sitte on my ryghte hande,
20:43tyll I make thyne enemyes thy fote stole.
20:44Seynge Dauid called hym Lorde: howe is he then hys sonne?
20:45Then in the audience of all the people, he sayed vnto hys disciples,
20:46beware of the Scribes, whiche desyre to go in longe clothyng, & loue gretinges in the markettes, and the hyest seates in the synagoges, & chiefe roumes at feastes,
20:47whiche deuoure wydowes houses, & that vnder a coloure of long praying: the same shall receyue greater damnacion.

20:1And it fortuned in one of those dayes (as he taught the people in the temple and preached the gospell) the hye Prestes and the Sribes came together wyth the elders,
20:2& spake vnto him sayinge: Tell vs: by what auctorite doest thou these thynges? Ether who is he, that gaue the thys auctorite?
20:3Iesus answered & sayd vnto them: I also will aske you one thyng, & answer me.
20:4The baptyme of Iohn: was it from heauen or of men?
20:5And they thought wyth in them selues sayinge: yf we saye from heauen, he will saye: why then beleued ye hym not?
20:6But & yf we saye: of men, all the people wyll stone vs. For they be perswaded, that Iohn is a Prophete.
20:7And they answered, that they coulde not tell whence it was.
20:8And Iesus sayd vnto them: nether tell I you, by what auctoryte I do these thynges.
20:9Then beganne he to put forth to the people thys parable: A certayne man planted a vyneyarde, and let it forth to husband men, and went hym selfe into a straunge countre for a greate season.
20:10And when the tyme was come, he sent a seruaunt to the husband men, that they shulde geue hym of the frute of the vineyarde. And they bet hym, and sent hym, awaye emptye.
20:11And agayne, he sent yet another seruaunt. And hym they dyd beat, and entreated hym shamefully, and sent hym awaye emptye.
20:12Agayne, he sent the thyrde also, and hym they wounded, and cast hym out.
20:13Then sayd the Lord of the vineyarde: what shall I do? I wyll sende my deare sonne: peraduenture they will stande in awe of him, when they se hym.
20:14But when the husbandmen sawe hym, they thought within them selues, sayinge: this is the heyre, come, let vs kyll hym, that the enheritaunce maye be oures.
20:15And they cast him out of the vineyarde, & kylled him. What shall the Lord of the vineiarde therfore do vnto them?
20:16He shall come, & destroye these husbandmen, & shall let out hys vineyarde to other. When they hearde thys, they sayde: God forbyd.
20:17And he behelde them, and sayde: what is thys then that is wrytten: the stone that the buylders refused, the same is become the heed of the corner?
20:18Whosoeuer doth stomble vpon the stone, shalbe broken: but on whosoeuer it falleth, it wyll grynde him to powder.
20:19And the hye prestes and the Scrybes the same houre went about to laye handes on hym, and they feared the people. For they perceaued that he had spoken thys symilitude agaynst them.
20:20And they watched hym, & sent forth spies, which shuld fayne them selues ryghteous men, to take him in hys wordes, and to delyuer him vnto the power & auctorite of the debyte.
20:21And they asked hym, saying: Master, we knowe that thou sayest and teachest ryght, nether consyderest thou the outward appearaunce of eny man, but teachest the waye of God truly.
20:22Is it laufull for vs to geue trybute vnto Cesar, or no?
20:23He perceaued theyr craftines, and sayde vnto them: why tempt ye me?
20:24Shewe me a peny. Whose ymage & superscripcion hath it? They answered and sayde: Cesars.
20:25And he sayde vnto them: geue then vnto Cesar, the thynges whych belonge vnto Cesar: & to God the thynges that pertayne vnto God.
20:26And they coulde not reproue his sayinge before the people: & they maruayled at his answer, and helde their peace.
20:27Then came to hym certayne of the Saduces, which denye that ther is eny resurreccion. And they asked him
20:28sayinge: Master, Moses wrote vnto vs, yf eny mannes brother dye hauing a wyfe, & he dye without chyldren, that then hys brother shulde take hys wyfe, and rayse vp seede vnto hys brother.
20:29Ther were therfore seuen brethren, and the fyrste toke a wyfe, & dyed without chyldren.
20:30And the seconde toke her, and he dyed chyldelesse.
20:31And the thyrde toke her: and in lykewise the residue of the seuen, and left no chyldren behynde them, and dyed.
20:32Last of all the woman dyed also.
20:33Now in the resurreccion, whose wyfe of them shall she be? For seuen had her to wyfe.
20:34Iesus answered and sayd vnto them. The chyldren of this worlde mary wyues, and are maryed:
20:35but they whych shalbe counted worthy of that worlde and the resurreccion from the deed, do not mary wyues, nether are maryed,
20:36nor yet can dye eny more, For they are equall vnto the angels, and are the sonnes of God, in as moch as they are chyldren of the resurreccion.
20:37And that the deed shall ryse agayne: Moses also sheweth besides the busshe, when he calleth: the Lord, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob.
20:38For he is not a God of deed, but of lyuynge. For all lyue vnto him.
20:39Then certayne of the Pharises answered, annd sayd: Master, thou hast wel sayd.
20:40And after that durst they not aske him eny question at all.
20:41And he sayde vnto them: how saye they that Chryst is Dauids sonne?
20:42And Dauid him selfe sayeth in the boke of the Psalmes: The Lorde sayde vnto my Lorde: syt thou on my ryght hande,
20:43tyll I make thyne enemyes thy fote stole.
20:44Dauid therfore calleth hym Lord: and how is he then hys sonne?
20:45Then in the audyence of all the people, he sayde vnto his disciples:
20:46beware of the Scribes, whych wyll go in longe clothynge: & loue gretynges in the markets, and the hyest seates in the synagoges, and the chefe rowmes at feastes,
20:47whych deuoure wyddowes houses, faynyng longe prayers: the same shall receaue greater dampnacyon.

20:1And it came to passe, that on one of those dayes, as he taught the people in the Temple, and preached the Gospel, the hie Priests and the Scribes came vpon him with the Elders,
20:2And spake vnto him, saying, Tell vs by what authoritie thou doest these things, or who is hee that hath giuen thee this authoritie?
20:3And he answered, and sayde vnto them, I also will aske you one thing: tell me therefore:
20:4The baptisme of Iohn, was it from heauen, or of men?
20:5And they reasoned within themselues, saying, If we shall say, From heauen, he will say, Why then beleeued ye him not?
20:6But if we shall say, Of men, all the people will stone vs: for they be perswaded that Iohn was a Prophet.
20:7Therefore they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
20:8Then Iesus sayd vnto them, Neither tell I you, by what authoritie I doe these things.
20:9Then began he to speake to ye people this parable, A certaine man planted a vineyarde, and let it forth to husbandmen: and went into a strange countrey, for a great time.
20:10And at the time conuenient he sent a seruant to the husbandmen, that they should giue him of the fruite of the vineyard: but the husbandmen did beate him, and sent him away emptie.
20:11Againe he sent yet another seruant: and they did beate him, and foule entreated him, and sent him away emptie.
20:12Moreouer he sent the third, and him they wounded, and cast out.
20:13Then sayd the Lord of the vineyard, What shall I doe? I will send my beloued sonne: it may be that they will doe reuerence, when they see him.
20:14But when the husbandmen sawe him, they reasoned with themselues, saying, This is the heire: come, let vs kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
20:15So they cast him out of the vineyarde, and killed him. What shall the Lord of the vineyarde therefore doe vnto them?
20:16He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and wil giue out his vineyard to others. But when they heard it, they sayd, God forbid.
20:17And he beheld them, and said, What meaneth this then that is written, The stone that the builders refused, that is made the head of the corner?
20:18Whosoeuer shall fall vpon that stone, shall be broken: and on whomsoeuer it shall fall, it will grinde him to pouder.
20:19Then the hie Priests, and the Scribes the same houre went about to lay hands on him: (but they feared the people) for they perceiued that he had spoken this parable against them.
20:20And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should faine themselues iust men, to take him in his talke, and to deliuer him vnto the power and authoritie of the gouernour.
20:21And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest, and teachest right, neither doest thou accept mans person, but teachest the way of God truely.
20:22Is it lawfull for vs to giue Cesar tribute or no?
20:23But he perceiued their craftines, and sayd vnto them, Why tempt ye me?
20:24Shew me a penie. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered, and sayd, Cesars.
20:25Then he sayd vnto them, Giue then vnto Cesar the things which are Cesars, and to God those which are Gods.
20:26And they could not reproue his saying before the people: but they marueiled at his answere, and helde their peace.
20:27Then came to him certaine of the Sadduces (which denie that there is any resurrection) and they asked him,
20:28Saying, Master, Moses wrote vnto vs, If any mans brother die hauing a wife, and hee die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise vp seede vnto his brother.
20:29Now there were seuen brethren, and the first tooke a wife, and he dyed without children.
20:30And the second tooke the wife, and he dyed childelesse.
20:31Then the third tooke her: and so likewise the seuen dyed, and left no children.
20:32And last of all the woman dyed also.
20:33Therefore at the resurrection, whose wife of them shall she be? for seuen had her to wife.
20:34Then Iesus answered, and sayd vnto them, The children of this world marry wiues, and are married.
20:35But they which shalbe counted worthy to enioy that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry wiues, neither are married.
20:36For they can die no more, forasmuch as they are equall vnto the Angels, and are the sonnes of God, since they are the children of the resurrection.
20:37And that the dead shall rise againe, euen Moses shewed it besides the bush, when he said, The Lord is the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob.
20:38For he is not the God of the dead, but of them which liue: for all liue vnto him.
20:39Then certaine of the Scribes answered, and sayd, Master, thou hast well sayd.
20:40And after that, durst they not aske him any thing at all.
20:41Then sayd he vnto them, Howe say they that Christ is Dauids sonne?
20:42And Dauid himselfe sayth in the booke of the Psalmes, The Lord sayd vnto my Lord, Sit at my right hand,
20:43Till I shall make thine enemies thy footestoole.
20:44Seeing Dauid called him Lord, howe is he then his sonne?
20:45Then in the audience of all the people he sayd vnto his disciples,
20:46Beware of the Scribes, which willingly go in long robes, and loue salutations in the markets, and the highest seates in the assemblies, and the chiefe roomes at feastes:
20:47Which deuoure widowes houses, and in shewe make long prayers: These shall receiue greater damnation.
