22:1	Þa soðlice ge-neahlacte freols-daige azimorum se ys ge-cweðen eastre.
22:2	& þare sacerda ealdres & þa bokeres smægdon hu hyo hine forspildon. Soðlice hyo adredden heom þt folc.
22:3	Ða eode sathanas on iudam se wæs oðre name scariot an of þam twelfen.
22:4	þa ferde he & spræce mid þare sacerde ealdre mannen. & ðugede (sic) ealdren hu he hine heom sealde.
22:5	And hyo fagenedon & hym weddeden feoh to syllene.
22:6	& he be-het. & he sohte hu he æðelicest hine beften þare manigeo ge-sealde.
22:7	Ða com se daig azimorum on þam hyo wolden heore eastren ge-wyrcan
22:8	& he sende petre & iohanne. & cwæð to heom. fared & gearewiað us þt we ure eastren ge-wyrcen.
22:9	Ða cwæðen hyo. hwær wilt þu þæt we gearewien.
22:10	& he cwæð to heom. Nu þanne ge on þa cestre gað; eow an-gen eornð an man mid wæter-buke. fylgieð hym on þt hus þe he ingað;
22:11	& seggeð þam hus-hlaforde. vre lareow þe segð. hwær ys cumena hus þær yc min eastren wyrce mid mjnen leorning-cnihten.
22:12	& he eow be-tæcð mycele healle ge-dæfte ge-garewiad þara.
22:13	Ða ferden hyo & ge-metten swa he heom saigde. & hyo gearewedon eastren.
22:14	Ænd þa time wæs he sett & his twelf apostles mid hym.
22:15	& he saigde heom. Of ge-wilnenge ic ge-wilnede mid eow æten þas eastren ær ich forð-fare.
22:16	Ic eow segge þæt ic heonen-forð ne eta. ær hyt syo on godes rice ge-fylled.
22:17	ænd on-feng calice. & þances dede & cwæð. On-foð & dæled be-tweoxe eow.
22:18	Soðlice ic eow segge þt ich ne drinke of þises wingearde kynne ær godes rice cume.
22:19	And he on-feng hlaf & þancode & heom sealde & cwæð. Þis ys myn lichame se is for eow ge-seald. doð þis on minen ge-mynde.
22:20	Ænd swa eac þanne calic; syððen he ge-eten hafde & cwæð. Þes calic is niwe cyðnis on minen blode se beoð for eow agoten.
22:21	Ðah-hwædere her ys þes læwen hand mid me on myssan.
22:22	& witodlice manne (sic) sune gæð æfter þam þe him for-stihteð wæs. Ðeah-hwæðere wa þam men þe he þurh ge-seald beoð.
22:23	And hyo ongunnen be-tweox heom smægen hwilc of heom þt to donne wære.
22:24	Ænd hyo fliten be-tweoxe heom hwilc heore wære yldest.
22:25	Ða saide he heom kyninges wealded heore ðeode. And þa þe anweald ofer hyo hæbbeð synde fremfulle ge-nemnede
22:26	ac ne beo ge na swa. Ac ge-wurðe he swa swa gingre se ðe yldre ys be-tweox eow. And se forsteppend ys beo he swilce he þein syo.
22:27	Hwæðer ys yldre se ðe ðenað þe se þe sytt. witodlice se þe sit. Ic eom on eowren midlene swa swa se þe þenað.
22:28	Ge synden þe mid me þurh-wunedan on minen ge-swinchen.
22:29	& ic eow dihte swa min fader me rice dihte.
22:30	þt ge æten & drincan ofer mine mysan on minen rice & ge sitten ofer þrim-settel demende twelf mæðe israel.
22:31	Ða cwæð drihten. symon symon nu sathanas gyrnde þæt he eow riddrede swa swa hwæte.
22:32	Ic ge-bæd for þe þt þin ge-leafe ne ge-teorige. Ænd þu æt sume cyre ge-wend &-tryme þine broðre.
22:33	Ða cwæð he drihten ic eom gære to farene mid þe ge on cwarterne ge on deað.
22:34	Þa cwæð he. Ic segge þe petrus; ne cræwð se cöc to-daig ær þu me æt-secst þreowe.
22:35	Þa cwæð he to heom. Ða ich eow sende buton seode & codde. & ge-scy. wæs eow anig þing wane. Ða cwæðen hyo nan þing.
22:36	Ða cwæð he. ac se þe hæfð seod gelice nyme codd. & se þe næfð sylle hys tunecan & begge hym sweord.
22:37	Soðlice ich segge eow þt gyot scel byon ge-fulled. þt be me awriten ys. & þt he mid rihtwisan ge-teald wæs. Witodlice þa þing þe be me synd hæbbeð ænde.
22:38	& hyo cwæðen. drihten her synde twa sword. & he quoth. þæt ys ge-noh.
22:39	Ænd æfter ge-wunen he ut-geode on þanne munt oliuarum. þt ys elebgerena (sic). & his leorning-cnihtes hym fylgdon.
22:40	& þa he com to þare stowe he sæde heom. ge byddað þt ge on costnenga ne gan.
22:41	And he wæs fram heom aloken swa mycel swa ys anes stanes werp. & ge-beigden cneowen he hine ge-bæð.
22:42	& cwæð. Fader gyf þu wilt; afyr þisne calic fram me þeah-hwæðere ne ge-wurðe min wille ac þin.
22:43	Ða tywde (sic) him godes ængel of heofene & hine ge-strangode.
22:44	& he wæs on ge-winne. & hine lange ge-bæd. & his swat wæs swilce Note: MS. swilces, corr. to swilce. blodes dropen on eorðe eornende.
22:45	& þa he of ge-bede aras; & com to hys leorning-cnihten. he hyo funde slæpende for sarignesse.
22:46	& he saide heom; hwi slæpe ge; arisað & biddað þæt ge on costnunge ne gan.
22:47	Hym þa þa gyt swæccenden (sic). Þa com þt wered & him to-foren eode an of þam twelfen. se wæs ge-nemned iudas. & he ge-neahlahte þam hælende þt he hine keste.
22:48	Ða cwæð se hælend. judas. mannes sune þu mid cosse sylst.
22:49	Ða ge-seagen þa þe hym abuton wæren. þæt þær toward wæs & cwæðen. drihten sla we mid sweorde.
22:50	Þa sloh heore an þare sacerda ealdres þeow & his swiðre eare of-akarf.
22:51	Ða andswerede se hælend læted þus. & þa he æt-ran his eare he hit ge-hælde.
22:52	Þa cwæð se hælend to þam ealdor-mannen & to þam witon & to þas temples ealdren. Ge ferden to me swa swa to anen sceaðen. mid sweorden. & mid sæglen. þt ge me ge-fengen.
22:53	Ða ich wæs daighwam-lice mid eow on þam temple. ne aþeneden ge eower handa on me. ac þis ys eower tid & þeostre anweald.
22:54	Ða namen hyo hine & lædden hyne to þare sacerde ealdres huse. & petrus felygede feorran.
22:55	And petrus wæs mid heom on middan þam cafertune þær hyo æt þam fyre sæton.
22:56	Ða hine ge-seah sum þinen æt leohte sittende & hine be-heold. þa cwæð hye. & þes wæs mid hym.
22:57	Ða æt-soch he. & quoth. eale wif ne can ich hine.
22:58	& þa embe litel hine ge-seah oðer. & cwæð. þu ert of heom. Ða cwæð petrus. eale man ic ne eom.
22:59	& þa æfter litlen faece swilce anre tide sum oðer saigde & cwæð. Soðlice þes wæs mid eom. witodlice he ys galileisc.
22:60	Þa cwæð petrus. eala mann nat ich hwæt þu sægest. And þa hyo þæt spræken samnunga se coc creow.
22:61	Þa drihten be-wende hine & be-seah to petre. Ða ge-munede petrus drihtnes wordes þe he cwæð. þæt þu min æt-sæcst þrewa to-daig ær se coc crawe.
22:62	Ða eode petrus ut & biterlice weop.
22:63	& þa þe þane hælend heolden hine bismeredon & beoton.
22:64	& ofer-wrugen hys ansiene. & þurscen his nebb. & axoden hine ared wlych (sic) ys se þe þe smat.
22:65	And manega oðre þing hyo hym to cwæðen. desigende.
22:66	And þa þa daig wæs. þa to-gædere comen þas folces aldren & þare sacerda ealdor-menn. & bokeras. & lædden hine to heore ge-mote & cwæðen.
22:67	Sege us gyf þu syo crist. Ða cwæð he. Þeah ich eow segge; ge me ne lyfað.
22:68	þeah ich eow axsie ge ne andsweriað me. ne ne for-læteð.
22:69	Heonen-forð byoð mannes sune sittende on godes mægnes swiðre healfe.
22:70	Ða cwæðen hyo ealle ert þu godes sune; Ða cwæð he. ge seggeð þæt ich eom.
22:71	And hyo cwæðen. hwi georne we geot ge-witnysse. we sylfe ge-herden of his muðe.


22:1	Now the feast of vnleauened bread drewe neere, which is called the Passeouer.
22:2	And the hie Priests and Scribes sought how they might kill him: for they feared the people.
22:3	Then entred Satan into Iudas, who was called Iscariot, and was of the nomber of the twelue.
22:4	And he went his way, and communed with the hie Priestes and captaines, how he might betray him to them.
22:5	So they were glad, and agreed to giue him money.
22:6	And he consented, and sought opportunitie to betraye him vnto them, when the people were away.
22:7	Then came the day of vnleauened bread, when the Passeouer must be sacrificed.
22:8	And he sent Peter and Iohn, saying, Go and prepare vs the Passeouer, that we may eate it.
22:9	And they saide to him, Where wilt thou, that we prepare it?
22:10	Then he said vnto them, Beholde, when ye be entred into the citie, there shall a man meete you, bearing a pitcher of water: folowe him into the house that he entreth in,
22:11	And say vnto the good man of the house, The Master saith vnto thee, Where is the lodging where I shall eate my Passeouer with my disciples?
22:12	Then he shall shewe you a great hie chamber trimmed: there make it ready.
22:13	So they went, and found as he had said vnto them, and made readie the Passeouer.
22:14	And when the houre was come, hee sate downe, and the twelue Apostles with him.
22:15	Then he saide vnto them, I haue earnestly desired to eate this Passeouer with you, before I suffer.
22:16	For I say vnto you, Hencefoorth I will not eate of it any more, vntill it bee fulfilled in the kingdome of God.
22:17	And hee tooke the cup, and gaue thankes, and said, Take this, and deuide it among you,
22:18	For I say vnto you, I will not drinke of the fruite of the vine, vntill the kingdome of God be come.
22:19	And he tooke bread, and when he had giuen thankes, he brake it, and gaue to them, saying, This is my body, which is giuen for you: doe this in the remembrance of me.
22:20	Likewise also after supper he tooke the cup, saying, This cup is that newe Testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
22:21	Yet beholde, the hand of him that betrayeth me, is with me at the table.
22:22	And truely the Sonne of man goeth as it is appointed: but woe be to that man, by whom he is betrayed.
22:23	Then they began to enquire among themselues which of them it should be, that should do that.
22:24	And there arose also a strife among them, which of them should seeme to be ye greatest.
22:25	But hee saide vnto them, The Kings of the Gentiles reigne ouer them, and they that beare rule ouer them, are called bountifull.
22:26	But yee shall not be so: but let the greatest among you be as the least: and the chiefest as he that serueth.
22:27	For who is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serueth? Is not he that sitteth at table? And I am among you as he that serueth.
22:28	And yee are they which haue continued with me in my tentations.
22:29	Therefore I appoint vnto you a kingdome, as my Father hath appointed vnto me,
22:30	That ye may eate, and drinke at my table in my kingdome, and sit on seates, and iudge the twelue tribes of Israel.
22:31	And the Lord saide, Simon, Simon, beholde, Satan hath desired you, to winowe you as wheate.
22:32	But I haue prayed for thee, that thy faith faile not: therefore when thou art conuerted, strengthen thy brethren.
22:33	And he said vnto him, Lord, I am ready to goe with thee into prison, and to death.
22:34	But he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cocke shall not crowe this day, before thou hast thrise denied that thou knewest me.
22:35	And he saide vnto them, When I sent you without bagge, and scrip, and shooes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
22:36	Then he said to them, But nowe he that hath a bagge, let him take it, and likewise a scrip: and hee that hath none, let him sell his coate, and buy a sworde.
22:37	For I say vnto you, That yet the same which is written, must be perfourmed in me, Euen with the wicked was he nombred: for doubtlesse those things which are written of me, haue an ende.
22:38	And they said, Lord, beholde, here are two swordes. And he said vnto them, It is ynough.
22:39	And he came out, and went (as he was wont) to the mount of Oliues: and his disciples also followed him.
22:40	And when hee came to the place, hee said to them, Pray, lest ye enter into tentation.
22:41	And he was drawen aside from them about a stones cast, and kneeled downe, and prayed,
22:42	Saying, Father, if thou wilt, take away this cuppe from mee: neuerthelesse, not my will, but thine be done.
22:43	And there appeared an Angell vnto him from heauen, comforting him.
22:44	But being in an agonie, hee prayed more earnestly: and his sweate was like drops of blood, trickling downe to the ground.
22:45	And he rose vp from prayer, and came to his disciples, and found them sleeping for heauinesse.
22:46	And he said vnto them, Why sleepe ye? rise and pray, least ye enter into tentation.
22:47	And while he yet spake, beholde, a companie, and he that was called Iudas one of the twelue, went before them, and came neere vnto Iesus to kisse him.
22:48	And Iesus saide vnto him, Iudas, betrayest thou the Sonne of man with a kisse?
22:49	Now when they which were about him, saw what would follow, they said vnto him, Lord, shall we smite with sworde?
22:50	And one of them smote a seruant of the hie Priest, and strooke off his right eare.
22:51	Then Iesus answered, and said, Suffer them thus farre: and he touched his eare, and healed him.
22:52	Then Iesus said vnto the hie Priests, and captaines of the Temple, and the Elders which were come to him, Bee ye come out as vnto a theefe with swordes and staues?
22:53	When I was dayly with you in the Temple, yee stretched not foorth the handes against mee: but this is your very houre, and the power of darkenesse.
22:54	Then tooke they him, and led him, and brought him to the hie Priestes house. And Peter followed afarre off.
22:55	And when they had kindled a fire in the middes of the hall, and were set downe together, Peter also sate downe among them.
22:56	And a certaine mayde behelde him as hee sate by the fire, and hauing well looked on him, said, This man was also with him.
22:57	But he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
22:58	And after a little while, another man sawe him, and saide, Thou art also of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.
22:59	And about the space of an houre after, a certaine other affirmed, saying. Verely euen this man was with him: for he is also a Galilean.
22:60	And Peter saide, Man, I knowe not what thou sayest. And immediatly while hee yet spake, the cocke crewe.
22:61	Then the Lord turned backe, and looked vpon Peter: and Peter remembred the worde of the Lord, how he had said vnto him, Before the cocke crowe, thou shalt denie me thrise.
22:62	And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
22:63	And the men that helde Iesus, mocked him, and strooke him.
22:64	And when they had blindfolded him, they smote him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophecie who it is that smote thee.
22:65	And many other thinges blasphemously spake they against him.
22:66	And assoone as it was day, the Elders of the people, and the hie Priests and the Scribes came together, and led him into their councill,
22:67	Saying, Art thou that Christ? tell vs. And he said vnto them, If I tell you, ye wil not beleeue it.
22:68	And if also I aske you, you will not answere me, nor let me goe.
22:69	Hereafter shall the Sonne of man sit at the right hand of the power of God.
22:70	Then sayd they all, Art thou then ye Sonne of God? And he sayd to them, Ye say, that I am.
22:71	Then sayd they, What neede we any further witnes? for we our selues haue heard it of his owne mouth.


22:1	The feaste of swete breed drue nye whiche is called ester
22:2	and the hye prestes and Scribes sought how to kyll him but they feared the people.
22:3	Then entred Satan into Iudas whose syr name was Iscariot (which was of the nombre of the twelve)
22:4	and he went his waye and comuned with the hye Prestes and officers how he might betraye him to them.
22:5	And they were glad: and promysed to geve him money.
22:6	And he consented and sought oportunite to betraye him vnto them when the people were awaye.
22:7	Then came ye daye of swete breed when of necessite the esterlambe must be offered.
22:8	And he sent Peter and Iohn sayinge: Goo and prepare vs the ester lambe that we maye eate.
22:9	They sayde to him. Where wilt thou yt we prepare?
22:10	And he sayd vnto them. Beholde when ye be entred into the cite ther shall a man mete you bearinge a pitcher of water him folowe into the same housse yt he entreth in
22:11	and saye vnto ye good ma of ye housse. The master sayeth vnto ye: where is ye gest chamber where I shall eate myne ester lambe wt my disciples?
22:12	And he shall shew you a greate parloure paved. Ther make redy.
22:13	And they wet and foude as he had sayd vnto the: and made redy ye ester lambe.
22:14	And when the houre was come he sate doune and the twelve Apostles with him.
22:15	And he sayde vnto them: I have inwardly desyred to eate this ester lambe with you before yt I suffre.
22:16	For I saye vnto you: hence forthe I will not eate of it eny moore vntill it be fulfilled in the kingdome of God.
22:17	And he toke the cup and gave thankes and sayde. Take this and devyde it amonge you.
22:18	For I saye vnto you: I will not drinke of the frute of the vyne vntill the kingdome of God be come.
22:19	And he toke breed gave thankes and gave to them sayinge: This is my body which is geven for you. This do in the remembraunce of me.
22:20	Lykewyse also when they had supped he toke the cup sayinge: This cup is the newe testament in my bloud which shall for you be shedde.
22:21	Yet beholde the honde of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
22:22	And ye sonne of man goeth as it is appoynted: But wo be to yt man by whom he is betrayed.
22:23	And they began to enquyre amoge them selves which of them it shuld be that shuld do that.
22:24	And ther was a stryfe amoge the which of them shuld be taken for the greatest.
22:25	And he sayde vnto them: the kynges of the getyls raygne over them and they that beare rule over them are called gracious lordes.
22:26	But ye shall not be so. But he that is greatest amonge you shalbe as the yongest: and he that is chefe shalbe as the minister.
22:27	For whether is greater he that sitteth at meate: or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meate? And I am amoge you as he that ministreth.
22:28	Ye are they which have bidden with me in my temptacions.
22:29	And I apoynt vnto you a kyngdome as my father hath appoynted to me:
22:30	that ye maye eate and drynke at my table in my kyngdome and sit on seates and iudge the twelve tribes of Israell.
22:31	And the Lorde sayde: Simon Simon beholde Satan hath desired you to sifte you as it were wheate:
22:32	bnt I have prayed for the that thy faith fayle not. And when thou arte converted strengthe thy brethre.
22:33	And he sayd vnto him. Lorde I am redy to go with the in to preson and to deth.
22:34	And he sayde: I tell the Peter the cocke shall not crowe this daye tyll thou have thryse denyed yt thou knewest me.
22:35	And he sayde vnto them: when I sent you with out wallet and scripe and shoes? lacked ye eny thinge? And they sayd no.
22:36	And he sayde to them: but nowe he that hath a wallet let him take it vp and lykewyse his scrippe. And he that hath no swearde let him sell his coote and bye one.
22:37	For I saye vnto you that yet that which is written must be performed in me: even with the wycked was he nombred. For those thinges which are written of me have an ende.
22:38	And they sayde: Lorde beholde here are two sweardes. And he sayde vnto them: it is ynough.
22:39	And he came out and went as he was wote to mounte olivete. And the disciples folowed him.
22:40	And when he came to the place he sayde to the: praye lest ye fall into temptacio.
22:41	And he gate him selfe from them about a stones cast and kneled doune and prayed
22:42	sayinge: Father yf thou wilt withdrawe this cup fro me. Neverthelesse not my will but thyne be be fulfilled.
22:43	And ther appered an angell vnto him from heaven confortinge him.
22:44	And he was in an agonye and prayed somwhat longer. And hys sweate was lyke droppes of bloud tricklynge doune to the grounde.
22:45	And he rose vp from prayer and came to his disciples and foude them slepinge for sorowe
22:46	and sayde vnto them: Why slepe ye? Ryse and praye lest ye fall into temptacion.
22:47	Whill he yet spake: beholde ther came a company and he that was called Iudas one of the twelve wet before them and preased nye vnto Iesus to kysse him.
22:48	And Iesus sayd vnto him: Iudas betrayest thou ye sonne of man with a kysse?
22:49	When they which were about him sawe what wolde folow they sayde vnto him. Lorde shall we smite with swearde.
22:50	And one of them smote a servaut of ye hiest preste of all and smote of his right eare.
22:51	And Iesus answered and sayd: Soffre ye thus farre forthe. And he touched his eare and healed him.
22:52	Then Iesus sayde vnto the hye prestes and rulers of the temple and the elders which were come to him. Be ye come out as vnto a thefe with sweardes and staves?
22:53	When I was dayly with you in the teple ye stretched not forth hondes agaynst me. But this is even youre very houre and the power of darcknes.
22:54	Then toke they him and ledde him and brought him to the hye prestes housse. And peter folowed a farre of.
22:55	When they had kyndled a fyre in the middes of the palys and were set doune to geder Peter also sate doune amonge them.
22:56	And wone of the wenches behelde him as he sate by the fyer and set good eyesight on him and sayde: this same was also with him.
22:57	Then he denyed hym sayinge: woman I knowe him not
22:58	And after a lytell whyle another sawe him and sayde: thou arte also of them. And Peter sayd man I am not.
22:59	And aboute the space of an houre after another affirmed sayinge: verely even this felowe was with hym for he is of Galile
22:60	and Peter sayde: ma I woote not what thou sayest. And immediatly whyll he yet spake the cocke crewe.
22:61	And the Lorde tourned backe and loked apon Peter. And Peter remembred the wordes of the Lorde how he sayde vnto him before ye cocke crowe thou shalt denye me thryse.
22:62	And Peter went out and wepte bitterly.
22:63	And the men that stode about Iesus mocked him and smoote him
22:64	and blyndfolded him and smoote his face. And axed him sayinge: arede who it is that smoote ye?
22:65	And many other thinges despytfullye sayd they agaynst him.
22:66	And assone as it was daye the elders of the people and the hye prestes and scribes came to gedder and ledde him into their counsell sayinge:
22:67	arte thou very Christ? tell vs. And he sayde vnto the: yf I shall tell you ye will not beleve
22:68	And yf also I axe you ye will not answere me or let me goo.
22:69	Herafter shall the sonne of man sit on the ryght honde of the power of God.
22:70	Then sayde they all: Arte thou then the sonne of God? He sayd to them: ye saye yt I am.
22:71	Then sayde they: what nede we eny further witnes? We oure selves have herde of his awne mouthe.
