23:1	Ða aras eall heora manigeo & lædden hine to pilate.
23:2	& agunnen hine wreigen & cwæðen. Ðisne we ge-metton for-hwerfende ure þeode. & for-beodende þt man þam caysere gafol ne sealde. & sægð þæt he syo crist kyning;
23:3	Ða axode pilatus him ert þu iudea cyng; þa andswerede he. þu hyt sægst.
23:4	Þa quoth pilatus to þam ealdren & þam werede. ne finde ich nænne intinge on þisen men.
23:5	Þa hlydden hyo & cwæðen. He astyred þis folc lærende þurh ealle iudean aginnende of galileam oð hider.
23:6	Ða pilatus ge-hyrde galileam. he axode hwader he wære galileisc man.
23:7	& þa he ge-cneow þt he wæs of herodes anwealde. he hine agen-sende to herode. he wæs on þam dagen on ierusalem.
23:8	Soðlice herodes fagenede þa he þanne hælend ge-seah. langere tide he wilnode hine ge-seon. for-þan þe he ge-herde mychel be him. & he hopede þt he ge-seage sum taken þe fram him ge-wurðe.
23:9	Þa axode he hine manege worden. & he naht ne andswerede.
23:10	Ða stoden þare sacerda aldres hine anrædlice wreigende.
23:11	Ða ofer-hugede herodes hine mid hys hyrde & bisemerede hine ge-scridne mid hwiten reafe. & hine agen-sente to pilaten.
23:12	And on þam daige wurðen herodes & pilatus ge-freond. Soðlice hyo wæren ær ge-feond heom be-tweonen.
23:13	Ða cwæð pilatus to þare sacerda ealdren. & ðugeðe (sic) ealdren & to þam folke.
23:14	Ge brohten me þisne man swilce he þis folc for-hwyrfde. & nu ich be-foren eow axiende. ich nænne intinge finden ne maig on þisen men. of þan þe ge hine wreigeð.
23:15	Ne for-þan herodes. ich hine asende agen to him. & him naht þæs lices deade ge-don wæs.
23:16	ich hine ge-betne for-læte.
23:17	Niede he scolde heom for-gefen ænne to heore freols-daige.
23:18	Þa grette eall þæt folc to-gadere. & cwæð. Nym þisne & for-gyf us barraban.
23:19	se wæs for sumere twirednysse & man-slehte of cwarterne asend.
23:20	Eft spræc pilatus to heom & wolde for-læten þane hælend.
23:21	Ða gretten hyo & cwæðen. ä-hö hine ä-ho hine.
23:22	Ða cwæð he to heom ðridde syðe. Hwæt dyde þes yfeles. ne afunde ic nan þing yfeles on þise men. þæt he syo deaðes scyldig. ic hine þreage & for-læte.
23:23	And hyo stoden & mycelere stefne bæden þt he wære ä-hangen. & hire stefne sweðeredon.
23:24	---
23:25	& he for-gef heom þane þe wæs for manslihte & sumere sake on cwarterne þane hyo bæden. & þane hælend he sealde to hire willan.
23:26	And þa hyo hine lædden hyo ge-fengen sumne cyreniscan symonem se com of þam tune. & þa rode him onsetten. þt he hyo bære æfter þam hælende.
23:27	hym felgede mycel wered folces & wife. þa hine heofen & weopen.
23:28	Þa cwæð se hælend be-wend. Eala dohter ierusalem; nelle ge ofer me wepen. ac wepeð ofer eow sylfe. & ofer eower bearn.
23:29	for-þan þa dages cumeð on þam hyo cweðeð. eadige synden þa un-temenden & in-noðes þe ne akenden. & þa breost þe ne sucen.
23:30	þanne aginneð hyo cweðen to þam munten falled ofer us. & to bergen ofer-wreod us.
23:31	for-þan gyf hyo on grenen treowe þas þing doð. hwæt doð hyo on þam dreigen.
23:32	And mid hym wæren ge-lædde twege oðre manfulle þt hyo wæren of-slegene.
23:33	& syððen hyo comen on þare stowe. þe ys ge-nemned caluarie þæt ys heafed-panne stow. þær hyo hine hengen. & ænne scaþan on hys swydren healfe & oðer on hys wenstran.
23:34	Þa cwæð se hælend fader for-gef heom for-þan hy nyten hwæt hyo doð. Soðlice hyo dælden his reaf & wurpen hloten.
23:35	& þt folc stod ge-ambadiende. & þa ealdres hine tælden mid heom & cwæðen. Oðre he ge-hælde. hine sylfne he ge-hæle gyf he syo godes ge-corene.
23:36	And þa cempen hine bysmereden. ænd hym æched brohten.
23:37	& þus cwæðen. Gyf þu syo iudea kyning ge-do þe sylfne halne.
23:38	Ða wæs his ofer-ge-writ ofer hine awriten. grekiscen stafen & hebreiscen. þis is judea kyning.
23:39	And (sic) of þam scaðen þe mid hym hangede. hine gremede. & quoth. Gyf þu crist ært ge-hæl þe sylfne & unc.
23:40	Ða andswerede se oðer & hine þreadde & cwæð. Ne þu god ne on-drædst. þæt þu ert on þare ylcan ge-nyðerunge.
23:41	& we her Note: we her over an erasure. witodlice be uncer ær-dæden on-foð. Soðlice þes naht yfeles ne dyde.
23:42	& he cwæð to þam hælende. Drihten ge-mune þu me. þanne þu kymst on þin rice.
23:43	Þa cwæð se hælend to hym. to-daig þu byst mid me on paradise.
23:44	Ða wæs neoh syo sixte tid. & þeostre wæren ofer ealle eorðan. oððan nigeþen tide.
23:45	& sunne wæs astyred & þas temples wahrift wærð to-sliten on midden.
23:46	Ða quoth. se hælend clepiende mycele stefne. Fader ich be-beode minne gast on þinre hande. & þus cweðende he forð-ferde.
23:47	Ða se hundred-man ge-seah þt þær ge-worðen wæs. he god wuldrede. & cwæð. Soðlice þes man wæs rihtwis.
23:48	& eall wered þe æt þisse wæfernyssen wæren & ge-seagen þa þing þe ge-worðen wæren. agen ge-wende heore breost beoten.
23:49	Ða stoden ealle his cuðan feorren. & þa wif þe hym felgden fram galilea þas þing ge-seonde.
23:50	& þa an man on namen ioseph se wæs ge-refe. & god wer & rihtwis.
23:51	þes ne ge-ðwærede hyore ge-þohte & hyra dæden fram arimathia iudëë cestre. se sylfe ge-ambadede godes riche.
23:52	þes ge-neahlahte to pilate & bæd þas hælendes lichamen.
23:53	and niðer-aleigde hine. & on scetan be-feold. & leigde hine on aheawene byregene on þare næs na geot on änig aleigð.
23:54	And þa wæs se daig parasceue þt is gegarewunge & sæter-daig on-lihte.
23:55	Ða wif þe hym felgden. þe comen mid hym of galilea hyo ge-seagen þa byrigenne & hu his lichame aligd wæs.
23:56	& hyo chyrden & gerewedon wyrt-ge-mang & sealfe. & on sætern-daig hyo ge-stylden æfter be-bode.


23:1	Then the whole multitude of them arose, and led him vnto Pilate.
23:2	And they began to accuse him, saying, We haue found this man peruerting the nation, and forbidding to pay tribute to Cesar, saying, That he is Christ a King.
23:3	And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Iewes? And hee answered him, and sayd, Thou sayest it.
23:4	Then sayd Pilate to the hie Priests, and to the people, I finde no fault in this man.
23:5	But they were the more fierce, saying, He moueth the people, teaching throughout all Iudea, beginning at Galile, euen to this place.
23:6	Nowe when Pilate heard of Galile, he asked whether the man were a Galilean.
23:7	And when he knewe that he was of Herods iurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, which was also at Hierusalem in those dayes.
23:8	And when Herod sawe Iesus, hee was exceedingly glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him, and trusted to haue seene some signe done by him.
23:9	Then questioned hee with him of many things: but he answered him nothing.
23:10	The hie Priests also and Scribes stood forth, and accused him vehemently.
23:11	And Herod with his men of warre, despised him, and mocked him, and arayed him in white, and sent him againe to Pilate.
23:12	And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were enemies one to another.
23:13	Then Pilate called together the hie Priests and the rulers, and the people,
23:14	And sayd vnto them, Ye haue brought this man vnto me, as one that peruerted the people: and beholde, I haue examined him before you, and haue found no fault in this man, of those things whereof ye accuse him:
23:15	No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him: and loe, nothing worthy of death is done of him.
23:16	I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
23:17	(For of necessitie hee must haue let one loose vnto them at the feast.)
23:18	Then all ye multitude cried at once, saying, Away with him, and deliuer vnto vs Barabbas:
23:19	Which for a certaine insurrection made in the citie, and murder, was cast in prison.
23:20	Then Pilate spake againe to them, willing to let Iesus loose.
23:21	But they cried, saying, Crucifie, crucifie him.
23:22	And he sayd vnto them the third time, But what euill hath he done? I finde no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
23:23	But they were instant with loude voyces, and required that he might be crucified: and the voyces of them and of the hie Priests preuailed.
23:24	So Pilate gaue sentence, that it should be as they required.
23:25	And he let loose vnto them him that for insurrection and murder was cast into prison, whome they desired, and deliuered Iesus to doe with him what they would.
23:26	And as they led him away, they caught one Simon of Cyrene, comming out of the fielde, and on him they layde the crosse, to beare it after Iesus.
23:27	And there followed him a great multitude of people, and of women, which women bewailed and lamented him.
23:28	But Iesus turned backe vnto them, and said, Daughters of Hierusalem, weepe not for me, but weepe for your selues, and for your children.
23:29	For behold, the dayes wil come, when men shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombes that neuer bare, and the pappes which neuer gaue sucke.
23:30	Then shall they begin to say to the mountaines, Fall on vs: and to the hilles, Couer vs.
23:31	For if they doe these things to a greene tree, what shalbe done to the drie?
23:32	And there were two others, which were euill doers, led with him to be slaine.
23:33	And when they were come to the place, which is called Caluarie, there they crucified him, and the euill doers: one at the right hand, and the other at the left.
23:34	Then sayd Iesus, Father, forgiue them: for they know not what they doe. And they parted his raiment, and cast lottes.
23:35	And the people stoode, and behelde: and the rulers mocked him with them, saying, He saued others: let him saue himselfe, if hee be that Christ, the Chosen of God.
23:36	The souldiers also mocked him, and came and offered him vineger,
23:37	And said, If thou be the King of the Iewes, saue thy selfe.
23:38	And a superscription was also written ouer him, in Greeke letters, and in Latin, and in Hebrewe, THIS IS THAT KING OF THE JEWES.
23:39	And one of the euill doers, which were hanged, railed on him, saying, If thou be that Christ, saue thy selfe and vs.
23:40	But the other answered, and rebuked him, saying, Fearest thou not God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
23:41	We are in deede righteously here: for we receiue things worthy of that we haue done: but this man hath done nothing amisse.
23:42	And he sayd vnto Iesus, Lord, remember me, when thou commest into thy kingdome.
23:43	Then Iesus said vnto him, Verely I say vnto thee, to day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.
23:44	And it was about the sixt houre: and there was a darkenes ouer all the land, vntill the ninth houre.
23:45	And the Sunne was darkened, and the vaile of the Temple rent through the middes.
23:46	And Iesus cryed with a loude voyce, and sayd, Father, into thine hands I commend my spirit. And when hee thus had sayd, hee gaue vp the ghost.
23:47	Nowe when the Centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Of a suretie this man was iust.
23:48	And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things, which were done, smote their brestes, and returned.
23:49	And all his acquaintance stood a farre off, and the women that followed him from Galile, beholding these things.
23:50	And beholde, there was a man named Ioseph, which was a counseller, a good man and a iust.
23:51	Hee did not consent to the counsell and deede of them, which was of Arimathea, a citie of the Iewes: who also himselfe waited for the kingdome of God.
23:52	He went vnto Pilate, and asked the body of Iesus,
23:53	And tooke it downe, and wrapped it in a linnen cloth, and laide it in a tombe hewen out of a rocke, wherein was neuer man yet laide.
23:54	And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drewe on.
23:55	And the women also that followed after, which came with him from Galile, behelde the sepulchre, and how his body was layd.
23:56	And they returned and prepared odours, and ointments, and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandement.

23:3	And Pylate apposed him sayinge: arte thou the kynge of the iewes? He answered him and sayde: thou sayest it.
23:4	Then sayde Pylate to the hye prestes and to the people: I fynde noo faute in this man.
23:5	And they were the moore fearce sayinge. He moveth the people teachynge thorowout all Iewry and beganne at Galile even to this place.
23:6	When Pilate hearde mencion of Galile he axed whether the ma were of Galile.
23:7	And assone as he knewe that he was of Herodes iurisdiccion he sent him to Herode which was also at Ierusalem in those dayes.
23:8	And when Herode sawe Iesus he was excedinglie gladde. For he was desyrous to se him of a longe season because he had hearde many thinges of him and trusted to have sene some myracle done by him.
23:9	Then questeoned he with him of many thinges. But he answered him not one worde.
23:10	The hye prestes and scribes stode forthe and accused him straytly.
23:11	And Herod wt his men of warre despysed him and mocked him and arayed him in whyte and sent him agayne to Pylate.
23:12	And the same daye Pylate and Herod were made frendes togeder. For before they were at variaunce.
23:13	And Pylate called to geder the hye prestes and the rulers and the people
23:14	and sayde vnto them: Ye have brought this man vnto me as one that perverted the people. And beholde I have examined him before you and have founde no faute in this man of those thinges where of ye accuse him.
23:15	No nor yet Herode. For I sent you to him: and lo no thinge worthy of deeth is done to him.
23:16	I will therfore chasten him and let him lowsse.
23:17	For of necessite he must have let one lowse vnto them at that feast.
23:18	And all the people cryed at once sayinge: awaye with him and delyvre to vs Barrabas:
23:19	which for insurrccion made in the cite and morther was cast into preson.
23:20	Pylate spake agayne to them willynge to let Iesus lowse.
23:21	And they cryed sayinge: Crucify him Crucify him
23:22	He sayde vnto them the thyrde tyme. What evyll hath he done? I fynde no cause of deeth in him. I will therfore chasten him and let him lowse.
23:23	And they cryed with loude voyce and required that he myght be crucifyed. And the voyce of them and of the hye Prestes prevayled.
23:24	And Pylate gave sentence that it shuld be as they required
23:25	and let lowse vnto them him that for insurreccion and morther was cast into preson whom they desyred: and delyvered Iesus to do with him what they wolde.
23:26	And as they ledde him awaye they caught one Symon of Syrene commynge out of the felde: and on him layde they the crosse to beare it after Iesus.
23:27	And ther folowed him a greate company of people and of wemen which weme bewayled and lamented him.
23:28	But Iesus turned backe vnto them and sayde: Doughters of Ierusalem wepe not for me: but wepe for youre selves and for youre chyldren.
23:29	For beholde the dayes will come when men shall saye: happy are the baren and the wombes that never bare and the pappes which never gave sucke.
23:30	Then shall they beginne to saye to the mountaynes fall on vs: and to the hilles cover vs.
23:31	For yf they do this to a grene tree what shalbe done to the drye?
23:32	And ther were two evyll doers ledde with him to be slayne.
23:33	And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary there they crucified him and the evyll doers one on ryght honde and the other on the lefte.
23:34	Then sayde Iesus: father forgeve them for they woot not what they do. And they parted his rayment and cast loottes.
23:35	And the people stode and behelde. And the rulers mocked him with thee saying: he holpe other men let him helpe him selfe yf he be Christ the chosen of god.
23:36	The soudiers also mocked him and came and gave him veneger
23:37	and sayde: yf thou be that kynge of ye Iewes save thy silfe.
23:38	And his superscripcio was writte over him in greke in latine and Ebreu: This is the kynge of the Iewes.
23:39	And one of the evyll doers which hanged rayled on him sayinge: If thou be Christ save thy selfe and vs.
23:40	The other answered and rebuked him sayinge. Net herfearest thou god because thou arte in the same damnacion?
23:41	We are ryghteously punesshed for we receave accordynge to oure dedes: But this man hath done nothinge amysse.
23:42	And he sayde vnto Iesus: Lorde remember me when thou comest into thy kyngdome.
23:43	And Iesus sayde vnto him: Verely I saye vnto the to daye shalt thou be with me in Paradyse.
23:44	And it was about the sixt houre. And ther came a darcknes over all the londe vntyll ye nynth houre
23:45	and the sonne was darckened. And the vayle of the temple dyd rent even thorow the myddes.
23:46	And Iesus cryed with a greate voyce and sayd: Father into thy hondes I comende my sprete. And when he thus had sayd he gave vp the goost.
23:47	When ye Centurion sawe what had happened he glorified God sayinge: Of a surtie this man was perfecte.
23:48	And all the people that came to geder to that sight beholdynge the thinges which were done: smoote their bestes and returned home.
23:49	And all his acquayntaunce and the wemen that folowed him from Galile stode a farre of beholdynge these thinges.
23:50	And beholde ther was a man named Ioseph a councelloure and was a good man and a iuste
23:51	and dyd not consent to the counsell and dede of them which was of Aramathia a cite of the Iewes: which same also wayted for ye kyngdome of God:
23:52	he went vnto Pilate and begged the boddy of Iesus
23:53	and toke it doune and wrapped it in a lynnen clooth and layed it in an hewen toumbe wherin was never man before layed.
23:54	And that daye was ye Saboth even and the Saboth drue on.
23:55	The wemen that folowed after which came with him from Galile behelde the sepulcre and how his body was layed.
23:56	And they returned and prepared odoures and oyntmetes: but rested the Saboth daye accordynge to the commaundement.
