24:1	On anan reste-daige swiðe ær on daig-rede hyo comen to þare byregene & bæren mid heom þa wertege-mang þe hyo gærewedon
24:2	& hyo funden þane stan awyltne of þare byregene.
24:3	And þa hyo in-to þare byrigene eoden hyo ne gefunden na þæs hælendes lichamen.
24:4	Ænd þa wæs ge-worðen þa hyo on mode afereden wæren be þysen. þa stoden twegen weres wið hyo on hwiten reafe.
24:5	& þa hyo adredden & heore andhwliten on eorðan heoldan hyo cwæðen to heom. Hwi sece ge libbendne mid deaden.
24:6	nis he her ac he aras. Be-þencheð (sic) hu he spæc wið eow. þa geot þe he wæs on galilea.
24:7	& cwæð. Ðæt mannes sune beoð ge-seald on hande synfulle manne. & beon ahangen. & þa þridden daige arisan.
24:8	& hyo gemunda his worda.
24:9	& hyo ge-wenten fram þare byregene & kydden eall þis ðam endlefenen & eallen oðren.
24:10	Soðlice wæs maria magdalene. & Iohanna & maria Iacobi. & oðre þe mid heom wæren. & þa saigdon þas þing þam apostlen
24:11	& þas word wæren ge-þuhte be-foren heom swa woffung & hyo ne ge-lefden heom.
24:12	Ða aras petrus. & arn to þare byregene & alutede. he ge-seah þa linwæde sylfe aleigde. & he ferde wundriende. þas þær ge-worðen wæs.
24:13	And þa ferden twegen of heom on þt castel þæt wæs on fæce sixtig furlenga fram ierusalem. on naman emaus.
24:14	& hyo spæcen heom be-tweonen be eallen þan þe þær ge-worðene wæren.
24:15	And þa hyo spelleden & mid heom smeagden. se hælend ge-nehlahte. & ferde mid heom.
24:16	Soðlice heore eagen wæren for-hæfde. þt hyo hine ne cneowen.
24:17	& he cwæð to heom. Hwæt syndon þa spæce þe gyt recceð me be-tweonen gangende & synden un-rote.
24:18	Ða andswerede hym an þas name wæs cleophas. & quoth. eart þu ane for-wrecen on ierusalem. & nystest þu þa þing þe on hire ge-worðen synde on þissen dagen.
24:19	He saide þa. hwæt synde þa þing. Ænd hyo saiden þa be þam nazarenisce hælende. se wæs wer & witege mihtig. on spræce & on weorce. be-foren gode & eallen folce.
24:20	& hu hine sealden þa heah-sacerdas. & ure ealdres on deaðes nyðerunge & ahengen hine.
24:21	We hopeden þt he to alysende wære israel. & nu is se þridde daig to-daig. þt þis wæs ge-worðen.
24:22	& eac sume wif of ure us bregden. þa wæren ær leohte æt þare byregene.
24:23	& na his lichame ne ge-seagen. hyo comen & saiden þæt hyo ge-seagen engle ge-sihðe. þa seggeð hine libban.
24:24	& þa ferden sume of uren to þare byregene. & swa ge-metton swa þa wif saiden. hine hyo ne seagen.
24:25	Þa cweð se hælend to heom. Eale desige on heortan. late to ge-lefene eallen þam þe þa witegan spræcen.
24:26	hu ne byregede criste þas þing þolien & swa on his wuldor gan.
24:27	Ænd he rehte heom of moyse & of eallen haligen ge-writen þe be him awritene wæren.
24:28	& hyo ge-nehlacte þam castele þe hyo to ferden. & he dyde swilce he ferrer faren wolde.
24:29	& hyo nedden hine & cwæðen. Þene (sic) mid üncc for-þan hit æfenlecð & se daig wæs ä-helt. & he in eode þt he mid heom wunede.
24:30	& þa he mid heom sett he on-feng hlaf & hine bletsede. & bræc & heom rahte.
24:31	Ða wurðan heore eagen ge-openede. & hyo ge-cneowen hine & he ge-wat fram heom.
24:32	Ænd hyo cwæðen heom be-tweonen. Næs unker heorte beornende þa he on weige wið ünc spæc. & unc halige write untynde.
24:33	& hyo arisen on þare ylcan tide & wenten to ierusalem & ge-metten endlefene gegaderede. & þa þe mid heom wæren.
24:34	& cwæðen þt drihten soðlice aras & symone atewede.
24:35	& hyo rehton þa þing. þa þe on weige ge-worðene wæren. & hu hyo hine on-cneowen on hlafes breche.
24:36	Soðlice þa hyo þis spræcen. se hælend stod heom on midden. & saide heom sib syo eow. ich hit em Note: MS. eom, altered to em. . ne on-dræde ge eow.
24:37	Ða wæren hyo ge-drefede. & aferede & hyo wenden þt hyo gast ge-seagen.
24:38	And he saide heom hwi sinde ge ge-drefede. & ge-þances on eowre heorten ästiged.
24:39	Ge seoð mine handa & mine fet. þt ic self hyt em. & grapieð & ge-seoð þt gast næfð flæsc ne ban swa ge ge-seoð me hæbben.
24:40	And þa he þis saide he atewede heom fet & handa.
24:41	Ða cwæð he to heom. þa hyo þa gyt ne lefden & for blisse wundredon. Hæbbe ge her anig þing to ætene
24:42	& hyo brohten him dæl ge-bræddes fisces & bei-brad
24:43	& he braecc. & þa æt beforen heom. he nam þa lafa & heom sealde.
24:44	& cwæð to heom. Þis synde þa word þe ich spæc to eow. þa ic wæs þa geot mid eow. for-þan þe hit ys neod þt beon ealle þing ge-felde. þe be me awritene synde. on moyses lage. & on witegan & on salmen be me.
24:45	Ða atynde he heom andgyt þæt hyo on-gëten halige ge-writen.
24:46	& he quoth to heom þt þus is awriten & þus ge-byrede crist þolian. & þe þridden daige of deaðe arisen.
24:47	& beon bodeð on his naman deadbote & synne for-gefenesse. on ealle þeode aginnende fram ierusalem.
24:48	Soðlice ge synde þinge ge-witen.
24:49	& ic sende on eow mines fader be-hat. Sitte ge on ceastre oððe ge seon ufene ge-scredde.
24:50	Soðlice he ge-lædde hyo ut on Note: MS. uton. bethaniam & he bletsode hyo his hand upp-ähafen.
24:51	Ænd hit wæs ge-worðen þæt he hyo ge-bletsode. he wente fram heom & he smat (sic) in-to heofene.
24:52	Ænd hyo þa hyo ge-biddende ge-cyrden into ierusalem mid muchelere blisse.
24:53	& wæren efre in þare temple heriende & bletsiende god. AMEN.


24:1	Nowe the first day of the weeke early in the morning, they came vnto the sepulchre, and brought the odours, which they had prepared, and certaine women with them.
24:2	And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre,
24:3	And went in, but found not the body of the Lord Iesus.
24:4	And it came to passe, that as they were amased thereat, beholde, two men suddenly stood by them in shining vestures.
24:5	And as they were afraide, and bowed downe their faces to the earth, they sayd to them, Why seeke ye him that liueth, among the dead?
24:6	He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake vnto you, when he was yet in Galile,
24:7	Saying, that the sonne of man must be deliuered into the hands of sinfull men, and be crucified, and the third day rise againe.
24:8	And they remembred his wordes,
24:9	And returned from the sepulchre, and tolde all these things vnto the eleuen, and to all the remnant.
24:10	Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Ioanna, and Mary the mother of Iames, and other women with them, which tolde these things vnto the Apostles.
24:11	But their wordes seemed vnto them, as a fained thing, neither beleeued they them.
24:12	Then arose Peter, and ran vnto the sepulchre, and looked in, and saw the linnen clothes laide by themselues, and departed wondering in himselfe at that which was come to passe.
24:13	And beholde, two of them went that same day to a towne which was from Hierusalem about threescore furlongs, called Emmaus.
24:14	And they talked together of al these things that were done.
24:15	And it came to passe, as they communed together, and reasoned, that Iesus himselfe drewe neere, and went with them.
24:16	But their eyes were holden, that they could not know him.
24:17	And he sayd vnto them, What maner of communications are these that ye haue one to another as ye walke and are sad?
24:18	And the one (named Cleopas) answered, and sayd vnto him, Art thou onely a stranger in Hierusalem, and hast not knowen the things which are come to passe therein in these dayes?
24:19	And he said vnto them, What things? And they sayd vnto him, Of Iesus of Nazareth, which was a Prophet, mightie in deede and in word before God, and all people,
24:20	And howe the hie Priests, and our rulers deliuered him to be condemned to death, and haue crucified him.
24:21	But we trusted that it had bene he that should haue deliuered Israel, and as touching all these things, to day is ye third day, that they were done.
24:22	Yea, and certaine women among vs made vs astonied, which came early vnto the sepulchre.
24:23	And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seene a vision of Angels, which sayd, that he was aliue.
24:24	Therefore certaine of them which were with vs, went to the sepulchre, and found it euen so as the women had sayd, but him they saw not.
24:25	Then he sayd vnto them, O fooles and slowe of heart to beleeue all that the Prophets haue spoken!
24:26	Ought not Christ to haue suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
24:27	And he began at Moses, and at all the Prophets, and interpreted vnto them in all the Scriptures the things which were written of him.
24:28	And they drew neere vnto ye towne, which they went to, but he made as though hee would haue gone further.
24:29	But they constrained him, saying, Abide with vs: for it is towards night, and the day is farre spent. So he went in to tarie with them.
24:30	And it came to passe, as hee sate at table with them, he tooke the bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gaue it to them.
24:31	Then their eyes were opened, and they knewe him: and he was no more seene of them.
24:32	And they saide betweene themselues, Did not our heartes burne within vs, while he talked with vs by the way, and when he opened to vs the Scriptures?
24:33	And they rose vp the same houre, and returned to Hierusalem, and found the Eleuen gathered together, and them that were with them,
24:34	Which said, The Lord is risen in deede, and hath appeared to Simon.
24:35	Then they tolde what things were done in the way, and howe he was knowen of them in breaking of bread.
24:36	And as they spake these things, Iesus himselfe stoode in the middes of them, and saide vnto them, Peace be to you.
24:37	But they were abashed and afraide, supposing that they had seene a spirit.
24:38	Then he saide vnto them, Why are ye troubled? and wherefore doe doutes arise in your hearts?
24:39	Beholde mine handes and my feete: for it is I my selfe: handle me, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me haue.
24:40	And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and feete.
24:41	And while they yet beleeued not for ioy, and wondred, he saide vnto them, Haue ye here any meate?
24:42	And they gaue him a piece of a broyled fish, and of an honie combe,
24:43	And hee tooke it, and did eate before them.
24:44	And he saide vnto them, These are the wordes, which I spake vnto you while I was yet with you, that all must be fulfilled which are written of me in the Lawe of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalmes.
24:45	Then opened he their vnderstanding, that they might vnderstand the Scriptures,
24:46	And said vnto them, Thus is it written, and thus it behoued Christ to suffer, and to rise againe from the dead the third day,
24:47	And that repentance, and remission of sinnes should be preached in his Name among all nations, beginning at Hierusalem.
24:48	Nowe ye are witnesses of these things.
24:49	And beholde, I doe sende the promise of my Father vpon you: but tary ye in the citie of Hierusalem, vntill ye be endued with power from an hie.
24:50	Afterward he lead them out into Bethania, and lift vp his hands, and blessed them.
24:51	And it came to passe, that as he blessed them, he departed from them, and was caried vp into heauen.
24:52	And they worshipped him, and returned to Hierusalem with great ioy,
24:53	And were continually in the Temple, praysing, and lauding God, Amen.

24:3	and went in: but founde not the body of the Lorde Iesu.
24:4	And it happened as they were amased therat: Beholde two men stode by them in shynynge vestures.
24:5	And as they were a frayde and bowed doune their faces to the erth: they sayd to them: why seke ye the lyvinge amonge the deed?
24:6	He is not here: but is rysen. Remember how he spake vnto you when he was yet with you in Galile
24:7	sayinge: that the sonne of man must be delyvered into the hondes of synfull men and be crucified and the thyrde daye ryse agayne.
24:8	And they remembred his wordes
24:9	and returned from the sepulcre and tolde all these thinges vnto the eleven and to all the remanaunt.
24:10	It was Mary Magdalen and Ioanna and Mary Iacobi and other that were with the which tolde these thinges vnto the Apostles
24:11	and their wordes semed vnto them fayned thinges nether beleved they them.
24:12	Then aroose Peter and ran vnto the sepulcre and stouped in and sawe the lynnen cloothes layde by them selfe and departed wondrynge in him selfe at that which had happened.
24:13	And beholde two of them went that same daye to a toune which was fro Ierusalem about thre scoore for longes called Emaus:
24:14	and they talked togeder of all these thinges that had happened.
24:15	And it chaunsed as they comened togeder and reasoned that Iesus him selfe drue neare and went with them.
24:16	But their eyes were holden that they coulde not knowe him.
24:17	And he sayde vnto them: What maner of comunicacions are these that ye have one to another as ye walke and are sadde.
24:18	And the one of them named Cleophas answered and sayd vnto him: arte thou only a straunger in Ierusalem and haste not knowen the thinges which have chaunsed therin in these dayes?
24:19	To whom he sayd: what thinges? And they sayd vnto him: of Iesus of Nazareth which was a Prophet myghtie in dede and worde before god and all the people.
24:20	And how the hye prestes and oure rulers delyvered him to be condempned to deeth: and have crucified him.
24:21	But we trusted that it shuld have bene he that shuld have delyvered Israel. And as touchynge all these thinges to daye is even the thyrd daye that they were done.
24:22	Ye and certayne wemen also of oure company made vs astonyed which came erly vnto the sepulcre
24:23	and founde not his boddy: and came sayinge that they had sene a vision of angels which sayde that he was alyve.
24:24	And certayne of them which were with vs went their waye to the sepulcre and founde it even so as the wemen had sayde: but him they sawe not.
24:25	And he sayde vnto the: O foles and slowe of herte to beleve all yt the prophetes have spoken.
24:26	Ought not Christ to have suffred these thinges and to enter into his glory?
24:27	And he began at Moses and at all the prophetes and interpreted vnto them in all scriptures which were wrytten of him.
24:28	And they drue neye vnto the toune wich they went to. And he made as though he wolde have gone further.
24:29	But they constrayned him sayinge: abyde with vs for it draweth towardes nyght and the daye is farre passed. And he went in to tary with the.
24:30	And it came to passe as he sate at meate wt them he toke breed blessed it brake and gave to them.
24:31	And their eyes were openned and they knewe him: and he vnnisshed out of their syght.
24:32	And they sayde betwene them selves: dyd not oure hertes burne with in vs whyll he talked with vs by the waye and as he opened to vs the scriptures?
24:33	And they roose vp the same houre and returned agayne to Ierusalem and founde the eleven gadered to geder and them that were with them which
24:34	sayde: the Lorde is rysen in dede and hath apered to Simon.
24:35	And they tolde what thinges was done in the waye and how they knewe him in breakynge of breed.
24:36	As they thus spake Iesus him selfe stode in ye myddes of them and sayde vnto them: peace be with you.
24:37	And they were abasshed and afrayde supposinge yt they had sene a sprete
24:38	And he sayde vnto the: Why are ye troubled and why do thoughtes aryse in youre hertes?
24:39	Beholde my hondes and my fete that it is even my selfe. Handle me and se: for spretes have not flesshe and bones as ye se me have.
24:40	And when he had thus spoken he shewed them his hondes and his fete.
24:41	And whyll they yet beleved not for ioye and wondred he sayde vnto the: Have ye here eny meate?
24:42	And they gave him a pece of a broyled fisshe and of an hony combe.
24:43	And he toke it and ate it before them.
24:44	And he sayde vnto the. These are the wordes which I spake vnto you whyll I was yet with you: that all must be fulfilled which were written of me in the lawe of Moses and in the Prophetes and in the Psalmes.

24:49	And beholde I will sende the promes of my father apon you. But tary ye in ye cite of Ierusalem vntyll ye be endewed with power from an hye.
24:50	And he ledde the out into Bethany and lyfte vp his hondes and blest them.
24:51	And it cam to passe as he blessed the he departed from the and was caryed vp in to heven.
24:52	And they worshipped him and returned to Ierusalem with greate ioye
24:53	and were continually in the temple praysinge and laudinge God. Amen.
