4:1	As sone as the Lord knewe, how the Pharises had hearde, that Iesus made and baptised moo disciples then Iohn
4:2	(though that Iesus him selfe baptised not: but his disciples)
4:3	he lefte Iewry, and departed agayne into Galile.
4:4	For it was so that he must nedes goo thorowe Samaria
4:5	Then came he to a cytie of Samaria (which is called Sichar) Besydes the possessyon that Iacob gaue to his sonne Ioseph,
4:6	And there was Iacobs well. Iesus then beyng werye of hys iorney, sate thus on the well. And it was about the syxte houre:
4:7	and there came a woman of Samaria to drawe water. Iesus sayeth vnto her: geue me drinke.
4:8	For his disciples were gone awaye vnto the towne, to bye meate.
4:9	Then sayeth the woman of Samaria vnto him: howe is it, that thou beinge a Iewe, askest drincke of me, which am a Samaritane? For the Iewes medle not with the Samaritans.
4:10	Iesus answered and sayde vnto hyr: yf thou knewest the gyfte of God, and who it is that sayeth to the geue me drincke, thou woldest haue asked of him, & he wolde haue geuen the water of lyfe.
4:11	The woman sayeth vnto him: Syr, thou hast nothynge to drawe wyth, & the well is depe: from whence then hast thou that water of lyfe?
4:12	Art thou greater then oure father Iacob which gaue vs the well, and he him selfe, drancke therof, and his children, and his catell?
4:13	Iesus answered, and sayde vnto hyr: whosoeuer drincketh of thys water, shall thyrst agayne.
4:14	But whosoeuer drincketh of the water that I shall geue him, shall neuer bemore a thyrst: but the water that I shall geue him, shalbe in him a well of water, spryngynge vp into euerlastinge lyfe.
4:15	The woman sayeth vnto him: Syr, geue me of that water, that I thyrst not, nether come hyther to drawe.
4:16	Iesus sayeth vnto her: Go, call thy husband, and come hyther.
4:17	The woman answered and sayde vnto him: I haue no husband.
4:18	Iesus sayde vnto her: Thou hast well sayd, I haue no husband. For thou hast had fyue husbandes, & he whom thou now hast, is not thy husband. In that saydest thou truely.
4:19	The woman sayeth vnto hym: Syr, I perceaue that thou art a prophet.
4:20	Oure fathers worshypped in thys mountayne & ye saye that in Ierusalem is the place, where men ought to worshyppe.
4:21	Iesus sayeth vnto her: woman beleue me, the houre commeth, when ye shall (nether in this mountayne, nor yet at Ierusalem) worshyppe the fathers:
4:22	Ye worsshyp ye wote not what: we knowe what we worshyppe. For saluaciom commeth of the Iewes.
4:23	But the houre commeth & now is, when the true worshyppers shall worshyppe the father in sprete, & in the treuth. For such the father also requyreth to worshyppe hym.
4:24	God is a sprete: and they that worshyppe hym, must worshyppe hym in sprete and in the treuth.
4:25	The woman sayeth vnto him: I wote, that Messias shall come, whych is called Chryst. When he is come, he wyll tell vs all thynges Iesus sayeth vnto hyr.
4:26	I that speake vnto the am he.
4:27	And immediatly came hys disciples, & marueyled that he talked with the woman. Yet no man sayd: what meanest thou or why talkest thou with her?
4:28	The woman then lefte her waterpot, and went her waye into the cytie, & sayeth to the men:
4:29	Come, se a man whych tolde me all thynges that euer I dyd. Is not he Christ?
4:30	Then they went out of the cytie, and came vnto him.
4:31	In the meane whyle his disciples prayed him, saying: Master, eate.
4:32	He sayde vnto them: I haue meate to eate, that ye knowe not of.
4:33	Therfore sayde the disciples amonge them selues: hath eny man brought him ought to eate?
4:34	Iesus sayeth vnto them: my meate is to do the will of him that sent me, & to fynisshe his worcke.
4:35	Saye not ye: there are yet foure monethes, & then commeth haruest? Beholde I saye vnto you: lyfte vp youre eyes, and loke on the regions: for they are whyte all ready vnto haruest.
4:36	And he that reapeth, receaueth rewarde, and gathereth frute vnto lyfe eternall: that both he that soweth, & he that reapeth, myght reioyse together.
4:37	And herin is the saying true, that one soweth & another reapeth.
4:38	I sent you to reape that wheron ye bestowed no laboure. Other men laboured, & ye are entred into their labours.
4:39	Many of the Samaritans of that cytie beleued on him, for the saying of the woman, which testified that he tolde her all that euer she dyd.
4:40	So, when the Samaritans were come vnto him, they besought him, that he wolde tary with them. And he abode there two dayes.
4:41	And many moo beleued because of his awne wordes,
4:42	and sayde vnto the woman. Now we beleue, not because of thy sayinge: for we haue herde him oure selues, and knowe that thys is euen Christ, the sauioure of the worlde.
4:43	After two dayes he departed thence, and went awaye into Galile.
4:44	For Iesus hym selfe testified, that a Prophete hath none honoure in his awne countre.
4:45	Then, as sone as he was come into Galile, the Galileans receaued him: whan they had sene all the thynges that he dyd at Ierusalem at the daye of the feast. For they went also vnto the feast daye
4:46	So Iesus cam agayne into Cana of Galile wher he turned the water into wyne. And ther was a certayne ruler, whose sonne was sycke at Capernaum.
4:47	As sone as the same herde that Iesus was come out of Iewry into Galile, he went vnto him, & besought him, that he wolde come downe, and heale his sonne. For he was euen at the poynt of death.
4:48	Then sayde Iesus vnto him: excepte ye se signes & wondres, ye wyll not beleue.
4:49	The ruler sayeth vnto him: Syr, come downe, or euer that my sonne dye.
4:50	Iesus sayeth vnto hym: Go thy waye, thy sonne lyueth. The man beleued the worde that Iesus had spoken vnto him. And he went his waye.
4:51	And as he was now going downe, the seruauntes mett him, & tolde him, sayinge: thy sonne lyueth.
4:52	Then enquyred he of them the houre, when he beganne to amende. And they sayd vnto him: Yester daye at the seuenth houre, the feuer lefte him.
4:53	So the father knewe, that it was the same houre, in the which Iesus sayde vnto him: Thy sonne lyueth. And he beleued, and all his housholde.
4:54	This is agayne the seconde myracle, that Iesus dyd, whan he was come out of Iewry into Galile.


4:1	Therfor as Jhesu knew, that the Farisees herden, that Jhesu makith and baptisith mo disciplis than Joon,
4:2	thouy Jhesus baptiside not, but hise disciplis, he lefte Judee,
4:3	and wente ayen in to Galilee.
4:4	And it bihofte hym to passe bi Samarie.
4:5	Therfor Jhesus cam in to a citee of Samarie, that is seid Sicar, bisidis the place, that Jacob yaf to Joseph, his sone.
4:6	And the welle of Jacob was there; and Jhesus was weri of the iourney, and sat thus vpon the welle. And the our was, as it were the sixte.
4:7	And a womman cam fro Samarie, to drawe watir. And Jhesus seith to hir, Yyue me drynk.
4:8	And hise disciplis weren gon in to the citee, to bie mete.
4:9	Therfor thilke womman of Samarie seith to him, Hou thou, `whanne thou art a Jewe, axist of me drynk, that am a womman of Samarie? for Jewis vsiden not to dele with Samaritans.
4:10	Jhesus answerde, and seide to hir, If thou wistist the yifte of God, and who `he is, that seith to thee, Yyue me drynk, thou perauenture woldist haue axid of hym, and he schulde haue youun to thee quyk watir.
4:11	The womman seith to him, Sire, thou hast not where ynne to drawe, and the pit is deep; wherof thanne hast thou quik watir?
4:12	Whethir thou art grettere than oure fadir Jacob, that yaf to vs the pit? and he drank therof, and hise sones, and hise beestis.
4:13	Jhesus answerde, and seide to hir, Eche man that drynkith of this watir, schal thirste efte soone; but he that drynkith of the watir that Y schal yyue hym, schal not thirste with outen ende; but the watir that Y schal yyue hym,
4:14	schal be maad in hym a welle `of watir, spryngynge vp in to euerlastynge lijf.
4:15	The womman seith to hym, Sire, yyue me this watir, that Y thirste not, nether come hidur to drawe.
4:16	Jhesus seith to hir, Go, clepe thin hosebonde, and come hidir.
4:17	The womman answerde, and seide, Y haue noon hosebonde. Jhesus seith to hir, Thou seidist wel, That Y haue noon hosebonde;
4:18	for thou hast hadde fyue hosebondis, and he that thou hast, is not thin hosebonde. This thing thou seidist sotheli.
4:19	The womman seith to hym, Lord, Y se, that thou art a prophete.
4:20	Oure fadris worschipiden in this hil, and ye seien, that at Jerusalem is a place, where it bihoueth to worschipe.
4:21	Jhesus seith to hir, Womman, bileue thou to me, for the our schal come, whanne nether in this hil, nethir in Jerusalem, ye schulen worschipe the fadir.
4:22	Ye worschipen that ye knowen not; we worschipen that that we knowen; for helthe is of the Jewis.
4:23	But the tyme is comun, and now it is, whanne trewe worschiperis schulen worschipe the fadir in spirit and treuthe; for also the fadir sekith suche, that worschipen hym.
4:24	God is a spirit, and it bihoueth hem that worschipen hym, to worschipe in spirit and treuthe.
4:25	The womman seith to hym, Y woot that Messias is comun, that is seid Crist; therfor whanne he cometh, he schal telle vs alle thingis.
4:26	Jhesus seith to hir, Y am he, that spekith with thee.
4:27	And anoon hise disciplis camen, and wondriden, that he spak with the womman; netheles no man seide to hym, What sekist thou, or, What spekist thou with hir?
4:28	Therfor the womman lefte hir watir pot, and wente in to the citee, and seide to tho men,
4:29	Come ye, and se ye a man, that seide to me alle thingis that Y haue don; whether he be Crist?
4:30	And thei wenten out of the citee, and camen to hym.
4:31	In the mene while hise disciplis preieden hym, and seiden, Maistir, ete.
4:32	But he seide to hem, Y haue mete to ete, that ye knowen not.
4:33	Therfor disciplis seiden togidir, Whether ony man hath brouyt him mete to ete?
4:34	Jhesus seith to hem, My mete is, that Y do the wille of hym that sente me, that Y perfourme the werk of hym.
4:35	Whether ye seien not, that yit foure monethis ben, and rype corn cometh? Lo! Y seie to you, lifte vp youre iyen, and se ye the feeldis, for now thei ben white to repe.
4:36	And he that repith takith hire, and gaderith fruyt in to euerlastynge lijf; that bothe he that sowith, and he that repith, haue ioye togidere.
4:37	In this thing is the word trewe, for anothir is that sowith, and anothir that repith.
4:38	Y sente you to repe, that that ye `haue not trauelid; `othere men han trauelid, and ye han entrid `in to her trauels.
4:39	And of that citee many Samaritans bileueden in hym, for the word of the womman, that bare witnessyng, That he seide to me alle thingis that Y haue don.
4:40	Therfor whanne Samaritans camen to hym, thei preieden hym to dwelle there; and he dwelte there twey daies.
4:41	And many mo bileueden for his word,
4:42	and seiden to the womman, That now not for thi speche we bileuen; for we han herd, and we witen, that this is verili the sauyour of the world.
4:43	And aftir twei daies he wente out fro thennus, and wente in to Galilee.
4:44	And he bar witnessyng, that a profete in his owne cuntre hath noon onour.
4:45	Therfor whanne he cam in to Galilee, men of Galilee resseyueden hym, whanne thei hadden seyn alle thingis that he hadde don in Jerusalem in the feeste dai; for also thei hadden comun to the feeste dai.
4:46	Therfor he cam eftsoone in to the Cane of Galile, where he made the watir wiyn. And `a litil kyng was, whos sone was sijk at Cafarnaum.
4:47	Whanne this hadde herd, that Jhesu schulde come fro Judee in to Galilee, he wente to hym, and preiede hym, that he schulde come doun, and heele his sone; for he bigan to die.
4:48	Therfor Jhesus seide to him, But ye se tokenes and grete wondris, ye bileuen not.
4:49	The litil kyng seith to hym, Lord, come doun, bifor that my sone die.
4:50	Jhesus seith to hym, Go, thi sone lyueth. The man bileuede to the word, that Jhesus seide to hym, and he wente.
4:51	And now whanne he cam doun, the seruauntis camen ayens hym, and telden to hym, and seiden, That his sone lyuede.
4:52	And he axide of hem the our, in which he was amendid. And thei seiden to hym, For yistirdai in the seuenthe our the feuer lefte him.
4:53	Therfor the fadir knewe, that thilke our it was, in which Jhesus seide to hym, Thi sone lyueth; and he bileuede, and al his hous.
4:54	Jhesus dide eft this secounde tokene, whanne he cam fro Judee in to Galilee.

4:6	And there was Iacobs well. Now whan Iesus was weerye of his iourney, he satt hi downe so vpo the well. And it was aboute the sixte houre.
4:7	Then came there a woman of Samaria to drawe water. Iesus sayde vnto her: Geue me drynke.
4:8	(For his disciples were gone their waye in to ye cite, to bye meate.)
4:9	So the woman of Samaria sayde vnto him: How is it that thou axest drynke of me, seynge thou art a Iewe, and I a woman of Samaria? For the Iewes medle not with the Samaritans.
4:10	Iesus answered, and sayde vnto her: Yf thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that sayeth vnto the, geue me drynke, thou woldest axe of him, and he wolde geue the, the water of life.
4:11	The woman sayde vnto him: Syr, thou hast nothinge to drawe withall, and the well is depe, from whence hast thou then that water of life?
4:12	Art thou greater then oure father Iacob, which gaue vs this well? And he himself dranke therof, and his children, and his catell.
4:13	Iesus answered, and sayde vnto her: Who so euer drynketh of this water, shal thyrst agayne:
4:14	But whosoeuer shal drynke of the water that I shal geue him, shal neuer be more a thyrst: but the water that I shal geue him, shalbe in him a well of water, which spryngeth vp in to euerlastinge life.
4:15	The woman sayde vnto him: Syr, geue me that same water, that I thyrst not, nether nede to come hither to drawe.
4:16	Iesus sayde vnto her: Go, call they hussbande, and come hither.
4:17	The woman answered, and sayde vnto him: I haue no hussbande.
4:18	Iesus sayde vnto her: Thou hast sayde well, I haue no hussbande: for thou hast had fyue hussbandes, and he whom thou hast now, is not thine hussbande: there saydest thou right.
4:19	The woma sayde vnto him: Syr, I se, that thou art a prophet.
4:20	Oure fathers worshipped vpon this mountayne, and ye saye, that at Ierusalem is the place, where men ought to worshippe.
4:21	Iesus sayde vnto her: Woman, beleue me, the tyme commeth, that ye shal nether vpon this mountayne ner at Ierusalem worshippe the father.
4:22	Ye wote not what ye worshippe, but we knowe what ye worshippe, for Saluacion commeth of the Iewes.
4:23	But the tyme commeth, and is now allready, that the true worshippers shal worshippe the father in sprete and in the trueth: For the father wil haue soch so to worshippe him.
4:24	God is a sprete, and they that worshippe him, must worshippe in sprete and in the trueth.

4:39	Many Samaritans of the same cite beleued on him, for the sayenge of the woman, which testified: He hath tolde me all that euer I dyd.

4:44	For Iesus himself testified, that a prophet is nothinge set by at home.
4:45	Now wha he came in to Galile, the Galileas receaued him, which had sene all that he dyd at Ierusalem in the feast: for they also were come thither in the feast.
4:46	And Iesus came agayne vnto Cana in Galile, where he turned the water vnto wyne. And there was a certayne ruler, whose sonne laye sicke at Capernaum.
4:47	This herde that Iesus came out of Iewry in to Galile, and wente vnto him, and besought him, that he wolde come downe, and helpe his sonne, for he laye deed sicke.
4:48	And Iesus sayde vnto him: Excepte ye se tokens and wonders, ye beleue not.
4:49	The ruler sayde vnto him: Come downe Syr, or euer my childe dye.
4:50	Iesus sayde vnto him: Go thy waye, thy sonne lyueth. The man beleued the worde, that Iesus sayde vnto him, and wente his waye.
4:51	And as he was goinge downe, his seruauntes mett him, and tolde him, and sayde: Thy childe lyueth.
4:52	Then enquyred he of them the houre, wherin he beganne to amende. And they sayde vnto him: Yesterdaye aboute the seueth houre the feuer left him.
4:53	Then the father perceaued, that it was aboute the same houre, wherin Iesus sayde vnto him: Thy sonne lyueth. And he beleued with his whole house.
4:54	This is now the seconde token that Iesus dyd, whan he came from Iewry in to Galile.
