| 3:1 | Ther was a man of the Pharises named Nycodemus, a ruler of the Iewes. |
| 3:2 | The same cam to Iesus by nyght, and sayde vnto him: Rabbi, we knowe that thou arte a teacher come from God: for no man coulde do suche myracles as thou doest, except God were wt him. |
| 3:3 | Iesus answered & sayd vnto him: Uerely, verely, I saye vnto the, except a man be borne from aboue, he cannot se the kyngdom of God. |
| 3:4 | Nicodemus sayeth vnto hym how can a man be borne when he is olde? can he enter into hys mothers wombe and be borne agayne? |
| 3:5 | Iesus answered verely, verely, I saye vnto the: except a man be borne of water & of the sprete, he cannot enter into the kyngdom of God, |
| 3:6 | That whych is borne of the flesshe, is flesshe, and that which is borne of the sprete, is sprete. |
| 3:7 | Maruayle not thou that I sayd to the, ye must be borne from aboue. |
| 3:8 | The wynde bloweth where it lysteth, & thou hearest the sounde therof but canst not tell whence it commeth & whether it goeth. So is euery one that is borne of the sprete. |
| 3:9 | Nicodemus answered and sayde vnto hym how can these thynges be? |
| 3:10 | Iesus answered & sayde vnto hym: art thou a master in Israel, & knowest not these thinges? |
| 3:11 | Uerely, verely I saye vnto the: we speake that we do knowe, & testify that we haue sene: and ye receaue not oure wytnes. |
| 3:12 | If I haue tolde you earthly thinges, and ye beleue not: how shall ye beleue, yf I tell you of heauenly thynges. |
| 3:13 | And no man ascendeth vp to heauen, but he that came doune from heauen, euen the sonne of man whych is in heauen: |
| 3:14 | And as Moses lyfte vp the serpent in the wyldernes, euen so must the sonne of man be lyfte vp, |
| 3:15 | that whosoeuer beleueth in him, perysshe not, but haue eternall lyfe. |
| 3:16 | For God so loue the worlde, that, he gaue is only begotten sonne, that whosoeuer beleueth in him, shulde not perisshe, but haue euerlastyng lyfe. |
| 3:17 | For God sent not his sonne into the worlde, to condempne the worlde but that the world through him myght be saued. |
| 3:18 | He that beleueth on him, is not condemned. But he that beleueth not, is condemned all ready, because he hath not beleued in the name of the onely begotten sonne of God, |
| 3:19 | And thys is the condemnacion: that lyght is come into the world, and men loued darcknes more then light, because their dedes were euyll. |
| 3:20 | For euery one that euyll doeth, hateth the lyght: nether commeth to the lyght, lest his dedes shuld be reproued. |
| 3:21 | But he that doth trueth, commeth to the lyght, that hys dedes maye be knowen, how that they are wrought in God. |
| 3:22 | After these thinges cam Iesus & his disciples into the land of Iewry & ther he taried with them. and baptysed, |
| 3:23 | And Iohn also baptised in Enon besydes Salim, because ther was moch water there, & they came & were baptised. |
| 3:24 | For Iohn was not yet cast into preson. |
| 3:25 | And ther arose a question betwene Iohns disciples and the Iewes, aboute purifyinge. |
| 3:26 | And they came vnto Iohn, & sayde vnto him: Rabbi, he that was wyth the beyonde Iordan (to whom thou barest wytnes) beholde the same baptiseth & all men come to hym. |
| 3:27 | Iohn answered, & sayde: a man can receaue nothinge, except it be geuen him from heauen. |
| 3:28 | Ye youre selues are witnesses how that I sayd: I am not Christ, but am sent before him: |
| 3:29 | He that hath the bryde, is the brydegrome. But the frende of the brydegrome, whych standeth and heareth hym, reioyseth greatly because of the brydegromes voyce. This my ioye therfore is fulfilled. |
| 3:30 | He must increace: but I must decreace. |
| 3:31 | He that commeth from an hye, is aboue all: He that is of the erth, is earthly, and speaketh of the erth. He that commeth from heauen, is aboue all, |
| 3:32 | & what he hath sene and hearde: that he testifieth: and no man receaueth hys testimonye. |
| 3:33 | He that hath receaued hys testimonie hath set to hys seale, that God is true. |
| 3:34 | For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the wordes of God: For God geueth not the sprete by measure vnto him. |
| 3:35 | The father loueth the sonne & hath geuen all thynges into hys hande |
| 3:36 | He that beleueth on the sonne hath euerlastinge lyfe: He that beleueth not the sonne, shall not se lyfe, but the wrath of God abydeth on him. |
| 3:1 | And there was a man of the Farisees, Nychodeme bi name, a prince of the Jewis. |
| 3:2 | And he cam to Jhesu bi niyt, and seide to hym, Rabi, we witen, that thou art comun fro God maister; for no man may do these signes, that thou doist, but God be with hym. |
| 3:3 | Jhesus answerde, and seide to hym, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to thee, but a man be borun ayen, he may not se the kyngdom of God. |
| 3:4 | Nychodeme seide to hym, Hou may a man be borun, whanne he is eeld? whether he may entre ayen in to his modris wombe, and be borun ayen? |
| 3:5 | Jhesus answeride, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to thee, but a man be borun ayen of watir, and of the Hooli Goost, he may not entre in to the kyngdom of God. |
| 3:6 | `That that is borun of the fleisch, is fleisch; and `that that is borun of spirit, is spirit. |
| 3:7 | Wondre thou not, for Y seide to thee, It bihoueth you to be borun ayen. |
| 3:8 | The spirit brethith where he wole, and thou herist his vois, but thou wost not, fro whennus he cometh, ne whidir he goith; so is ech man that is borun of the spirit. |
| 3:9 | Nychodeme answeride, and seide to hym, Hou moun these thingis be don? |
| 3:10 | Jhesus answeride, and seide to hym, Thou art a maister in Israel, and knowist not these thingis? |
| 3:11 | Treuli, treuli, Y seie to thee, for we speken that that we witen, and we witnessen that that we han seyn, and ye taken not oure witnessyng. |
| 3:12 | If Y haue seid to you ertheli thingis, and ye bileuen not, hou if Y seie to you heueneli thingis, schulen ye bileue? |
| 3:13 | And no man stieth in to heuene, but he that cam doun fro heuene, mannys sone that is in heuene. |
| 3:14 | And as Moises areride a serpent in desert, so it bihoueth mannys sone to be reisid, |
| 3:15 | that ech man that bileueth in hym, perische not, but haue euerlastynge lijf. |
| 3:16 | For God louede so the world, that he yaf his `oon bigetun sone, that ech man that bileueth in him perische not, but haue euerlastynge lijf. |
| 3:17 | For God sente not his sone in to the world, that he iuge the world, but that the world be saued bi him. |
| 3:18 | He that bileueth in hym, is not demed; but he that bileueth not, is now demed, for he bileueth not in the name of the `oon bigetun sone of God. |
| 3:19 | And this is the dom, for liyt cam in to the world, and men loueden more derknessis than liyt; for her werkes weren yuele. |
| 3:20 | For ech man that doith yuele, hatith the liyt; and he cometh not to the liyt, that hise werkis be not repreued. |
| 3:21 | But he that doith treuthe, cometh to the liyt, that hise werkis be schewid, that thei ben don in God. |
| 3:22 | Aftir these thingis Jhesus cam, and hise disciplis, in to the loond of Judee, and there he dwellide with hem, and baptiside. |
| 3:23 | And Joon was baptisinge in Ennon, bisidis Salym, for many watris weren there; and thei camen, and weren baptisid. |
| 3:24 | And Joon was not yit sent in to prisoun. |
| 3:25 | Therfor a questioun was maad of Jonys disciplis with the Jewis, of the purificacioun. |
| 3:26 | And thei camen to Joon, and seiden `to hym, Maister, he that was with thee biyonde Jordan, to whom thou hast borun witnessyng, lo! he baptisith, and alle men comen to hym. |
| 3:27 | Joon answerde, and seide, A man may not take ony thing, but it be youun to hym fro heuene. |
| 3:28 | Ye you silf beren witnessyng to me, that Y seide, Y am not Crist, but that Y am sent bifore hym. |
| 3:29 | He that hath a wijf, is the hosebonde; but the freend of the spouse that stondith, and herith hym, ioieth with ioye, for the vois of the spouse. Therfor in this thing my ioye is fulfillid. |
| 3:30 | It bihoueth hym to wexe, but me to be maad lesse. |
| 3:31 | He that cam from aboue, is aboue alle; he that is of the erthe, spekith of the erthe; he that cometh from heuene, is aboue alle. |
| 3:32 | And he witnessith that thing that he hath seie, and herde, and no man takith his witnessing. |
| 3:33 | But he that takith his witnessyng, hath confermyd that God is sothefast. |
| 3:34 | But he whom God hath sent, spekith the wordis of God; for not to mesure God yyueth the spirit. |
| 3:35 | The fadir loueth the sone, and he hath youun alle thingis in his hoond. |
| 3:36 | He that bileueth in the sone, hath euerlastynge lijf; but he that is vnbileueful to the sone, schal not se euerlastynge lijf, but the wraththe of God dwellith on hym. |
| 3:1 | There was a man of the Pharises, named Nicodemus a ruler amoge the Iewes. |
| 3:2 | The same came vnto Iesus by night, & sayde vnto hi: Master, we knowe yt thou art come a teacher fro God: for no ma can do these tokes yt thou doest, excepte God be with him. |
| 3:3 | Iesus answered, and sayde vnto him: Verely verely I saye vnto the: Excepte a man be borne a new, he can not se the kyngdome of God. |
| 3:4 | Nicodemus sayde vnto him: How can a man be borne, whan he is olde? Can he entre into his mothers wombe, and be borne agayne? |
| 3:5 | Iesus answered: Verely verely I saye vnto the: Excepte a ma be borne of water and of the sprete, he can not come in to ye kyngdome of God. |
| 3:6 | That which is borne of flesh, is flesh: & that which is borne of the sprete, is sprete. |
| 3:7 | Maruell not, that I sayde vnto ye: Ye must be borne of new. |
| 3:8 | The wynde bloweth where he wyl, and thou hearest his sounde: but thou canst not tell whece he commeth, and whither he goeth. So is euery one, that is borne of the sprete. |
| 3:9 | Nicodemus answered, and sayde vnto him: How maye these be? |
| 3:10 | Iesus answered, & sayde vnto hi: Art thou a Master in Israel, & knowest not these? |
| 3:11 | Verely I saye vnto ye: We speake that we knowe, and testifie that we haue sene, and ye receaue not oure wytnesse. |
| 3:12 | Yf ye beleue not whan I tell you of earthly thinges, how shulde ye beleue, wha I speake vnto you of heauenly thinges? |
| 3:13 | And no man ascendeth vp in to heauen, but he that is come downe from heaue, (namely) the sonne of man which is in heauen. |
| 3:14 | And like as Moses lift vp the serpent in the wyldernes, euen so must the sonne of man be lift vp, |
| 3:15 | that who so euer beleueth in him, shulde not perish, but haue euerlastinge life. |
| 3:16 | For God so loued the worlde, that he gaue his onely sonne, that who so euer beleueth in hi, shulde not perishe, but haue euerlastinge life. |
| 3:17 | For God sent not his sonne in to ye worlde to condempne the worlde, but that the worlde might be saued by him. |
| 3:18 | He that beleueth on him, shal not be codemned. But he that beleueth not, is codemned allready: because he beleueth not on the name of the onely sonne of God. |
| 3:19 | But this is ye codempnacion, that the light is come in to the worlde, and men loued the darknesse more the ye light: for their workes were euell. |
| 3:20 | Whosoeuer doth euell, hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, that his dedes shulde not be reproued. |
| 3:21 | But he that doth the trueth, commeth to the light, that his workes maye be knowne: for they are done in God. |
| 3:22 | Afterwarde came Iesus & his disciples in to the lode of Iewry, and had his beynge there with them, and baptysed |
| 3:23 | Ihon baptysed also in Enon besyde Salem: for there was moch water there. And they came thither, and were baptysed: |
| 3:24 | for Iohn was not yet put in preson. |
| 3:25 | Then arose there a question amonge the disciples of Ihon with the Iewes aboute the purifienge, |
| 3:26 | and they came vnto Ihon, and sayde vnto him: Master, he yt was with the beyonde Iordan, of whom thou barest wytnesse, beholde, he baptyseth, and euery man cometh vnto him. |
| 3:27 | Ihon answered and sayde: A man can receaue nothinge, excepte it be geuen him from heaue. |
| 3:28 | Ye youreselues are my witnesses, how that I sayde, I am not Christ, but am sent before him. |
| 3:29 | He that hath the bryde, is the brydegrome: but the frende of the brydegrome stondeth, and herkeneth vnto him, and reioyseth greatly ouer the voyce of the brydegrome, this same ioye of myne is now fulfilled. |
| 3:30 | He must increace, but I must decreace. |
| 3:31 | He that commeth from an hye, is aboue all. He that is of the earth, is earthly, and speaketh of the earth. He that commeth fro heauen, is aboue all, |
| 3:32 | and testifieth what he hath sene & herde, and no man receaueth his wytnesse. |
| 3:33 | But he that receaueth it, hath set to his seale, that God is true. |
| 3:34 | For he who God hath sent, speaketh ye wordes of God: for God geueth not the sprete (vnto him) by measure. |
| 3:35 | The father loueth the sonne, and hath geuen him all thinges in to his hande. |
