4:1	Ða se hælend wiste þt þa pharisei ge-hyrden. þæt he hæfdee (sic) ma leorning-cnihta þonne Iohannes
4:2	þeah se hælend ne fullode. ac hys leorning-cnihtas.
4:3	Ða for-let he iudea land. & for eft on galilea.
4:4	hym ge-byrode þæt he scolde faran þurh samaria länd.
4:5	Witelice he com on samarian cestre. þe ys ge-nemneð sichar. neah þam tune þe Iacob sealde Iosepe hys sune.
4:6	þær wæs Iacobes wylle. Note: Iesus fatigatus ex itinere. sedebat sic super fontem. Se hælend sæt æt þam welle. þa he wæs weri ge-gan. & hyt wæs mid-dayg.
4:7	Ða com þær an wif of samaria wolde water feccan. Ða cwæð se hælend to hyre; gyf me drincan.
4:8	Hys leorning-cnihtes ferdon þa to þare ceastre. woldon heom mete beggen.
4:9	Ða cwæð þæt samaritanisse wif to hym. Hu-mete bydst þu at me drinken. þonne þu ert Iudeisc. & ic em samaritanisc wyf. Ne brucað Iudeas & samaritanissce metes æt-gadere.
4:10	Ða answerede se halend & cwæð to hyre. Gif þu wistes godes gyfe. & hwæt se ys þe cwæð to þe sele me drinken. witodlice þu bede hyne þæt he sealde þe lyfes wæter.
4:11	Þa cwæð þæt wif to hym. Leof ne þu næfst nan þing mid to hladene. & þes pet ys deop. hwanen hafst þu lifes wæter.
4:12	cwest ðu þt þu mare sy þonne ure fader iacob. Se þe us þisne pyt sealde. & he & hys bearn. & hys nytanu of þam druncan.
4:13	Ða answerede se hælend. & cwæð to hire. Ælc þare þerst eft þe of þisse wætere drinkeð.
4:14	Witodlice ælc þare þe drincð of þam watere þe ic hym sylle; ... beoð on hym wyll forð-ræsendes wæteres on ece lyf.
4:15	Þa cwæð þæt wif to him. Hlaford sele me þæt wæter þæt me ne þerste. ne ic ne þurfe her water fecchan.
4:16	Þa cwæð se halend to hire. Ga & clype þinne cheorl. & cum hider.
4:17	Þa hym answerede þus þæt wif. & cwæð. nabbe ic nænne cheorl. Þa cwæð se halend to hyre. wel þu cweðe þæt þu næst ceorl.
4:18	witodlice þu hafst fif cheorles. End se þe þu nu hast nis þin ceorl. æt þam þu segdest soð.
4:19	Ða cwæð þæt wif to hym. Leof þas me þincð þu ert witega;
4:20	ure faderes hyo ge-beden on þissere dune. & ge secgeð þæt on ierusalem syo stow þe þæt man on ge-bydde.
4:21	Ða cwæð se hælend to hire. La wif ge-lef me. þæt seo tid cymð. þonne ge ne biddeð þam fader ne on þisse dune ne on ierusalem.
4:22	Ge ge-biddeð þæt ge nyten. we ge-biddeð þæt we witon. for-þam þe hale ys of iudeum.
4:23	ac seo tid cymð; & nu ys. þonne soðe ge-bedmen biddeð þonne fader on gaste. & on sodfæstnysse. Witodlice se fader secð swilce; þe hyne ge-biddeð.
4:24	gast ys god. & þam þe hine biddeð. ge-byred þæt hyo ge-bidden on gaste. & on soðfæstnysse.
4:25	Ðæt wif cwæð to him. ic wat þæt messias cymð þæt ys ge-nemned crist. þonne he cymð he cyð us ealle þing.
4:26	Se hælend cwæð to hyre. Ic hyt em. þe wið þe sprece.
4:27	& þær-rihte comen hys leorning-cnihtas. & hyo wundreden þæt he wið þæt wif sprec. þeh; hire nan ne cwæð; hwæt secst þu. oððe hwæt sprecst þu wið hyo.
4:28	Witoðlice þæt wif for-let hire water-fet & eode to þare berig. & cwæð to þam mannen.
4:29	Cumæd & ge-seod þonne man þe me sægde ealle þa þing þe ic dede. cweðe ge is he crist.
4:30	Ða eoden hyo ut of þare berig & comen to hym.
4:31	on ge-mang þam his leorning-cnihtes hine bædon. & þus cwæðen. lareow et.
4:32	þa cwæð he to heom. Ic hæbbe þonne mete to etene þe ge nytan.
4:33	Ða cwæðen hys leorning-cnihtes heom be-twoxen hwæðer anig man hym mete brohte.
4:34	Ða cwæð se hælend to heom. Min mete ys þæt ic werche þas willen þe me sende. þæt ic ful-fremie me hys werces.
4:35	Hu ne segge ge þæt nu gyt sint feor monðes ær me ripen mægen. nu ic segge eow. hæbbað up eowre eagen. & ge-seð þas eardes þt hyo synde scyre to ripene.
4:36	& se þe ripð nemd mede. & gadereð wæstme on echen lyfe. þæt æt-gadere ge-blyssien se þe sawð & se þe ripeð.
4:37	on þison is witodlice soð word. forþam oðer is þe sawð. oþer ys se ðe ripð.
4:38	Ic sende eow to ripene. þæt þæt ge ne be-swuncen. oðre swuncon & ge eoden on heora swenc.
4:39	Witodlice manige samaritanyssce of þare cestre ge-lefdon on hyne. for þas wifes worden. þe be hym kydde þæt he segde me ealle þa þing þe ic dede.
4:40	Ða þa samaritanisscen comen to hym. hyo ge-bæden hine þæt he wunede þære. & he wunede þære twegen dages.
4:41	& micele mä ge-lefden for hys spræce.
4:42	& cwæðen to þam wife. ne ge-lefe we na for þire spræce. we sylfe ge-hirdon. & we witen ðæt he ys soð middan-eardes hælend.
4:43	Soðlice æfter twam dagon he ferde þanone. & for to galilea.
4:44	Se hælend self kydde ge-wytnesse þæt nan witega nefð nenne wurðscipe on hys agenen earde.
4:45	þa he com to galileam. ða under-fengan hyo hine. þa hyo ge-sæwan ealle ða þing þe he worhte on ierusalem on freols-dæge. & hyo comen to þam freols-dæge.
4:46	& he com eft to chanää galilëë. þær he worhte þæt win of wætere. Note: Erat quidam regulus cuius filius infirmabatur capharnaum. Sum under-kyning wæs. þæs sunu wæs ge-sieclod on capharnaum.
4:47	Ða ða se ge-hyrde þæt se hælend for fram iudea to galilea he com to hym. & bed hine þæt he fore ænd hælde hys sune. Soðlice he læg æt forð-fore.
4:48	Ða cwæð se halend to hym. buton ge tacne & fore-bæcne ge-seon. ne ge-lyfe ge.
4:49	Ða cwæð se under-cyning to hym; drihten far ær min sune swelte.
4:50	& se hælend cwæð. Ga þin sune leofað. Ða eode he. & ge-lefde ðare spræce þe se hælend hym sægde.
4:51	Þa he for; þa urnen hys þeowes hym to-geanes & sægdon þæt hys sune leofede.
4:52	Ða axode he to hwilcan timan hym bet wære. & hyo sægdon hym. gystendaig to þa seofeðe tide; se feofer hyne for-let.
4:53	Þa on-geat se fæder ðæt hyt wæs on þare tide þe se hælend cwæð; þin sune leofað. & he ge-lefde & eall his heowrædon.
4:54	Se halend worhte þis taken eft oþre syðe þa he com fram iudea lande to galilea.


4:1	Nowe when the Lord knew, how the Pharises had heard, that Iesus made and baptized moe disciples then Iohn,
4:2	(Though Iesus himselfe baptized not: but his disciples)
4:3	Hee left Iudea, and departed againe into Galile.
4:4	And he must needes goe through Samaria.
4:5	Then came hee to a citie of Samaria called Sychar, neere vnto the possession that Iacob gaue to his sonne Ioseph.
4:6	And there was Iacobs well. Iesus then wearied in the iourney, sate thus on the well: it was about the sixt houre.
4:7	There came a woman of Samaria to drawe water. Iesus sayd vnto her, Giue me drinke.
4:8	For his disciples were gone away into the citie, to buy meate.
4:9	Then sayde the woman of Samaria vnto him, Howe is it, that thou being a Iewe, askest drinke of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Iewes meddle not with the Samaritans.
4:10	Iesus answered and saide vnto her, If thou knewest that gift of God, and who it is that saieth to thee, Giue mee drinke, thou wouldest haue asked of him, and hee woulde haue giuen thee, water of life.
4:11	The woman saide vnto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to drawe with, and the well is deepe: from whence then hast thou that water of life?
4:12	Art thou greater then our father Iacob, which gaue vs the well, and hee himselfe dranke thereof, and his sonnes, and his cattell?
4:13	Iesus answered, and said vnto her, Whosoeuer drinketh of this water, shall thirst againe:
4:14	But whosoeuer drinketh of the water that I shall giue him, shall neuer be more a thirst: but the water that I shall giue him, shalbe in him a well of water, springing vp into euerlasting life.
4:15	The woman said vnto him, Syr, giue me of that water, that I may not thirst, neither come hither to drawe.
4:16	Iesus said vnto her, Go, call thine husband, and come hither.
4:17	The woman answered, and saide, I haue no husband. Iesus said vnto her, Thou hast well said, I haue no husband.
4:18	For thou hast had fiue husbands, and he whom thou nowe hast, is not thine husband: that saidest thou truely.
4:19	The woman saide vnto him, Sir, I see that thou art a Prophet.
4:20	Our fathers worshipped in this mountaine, and ye say, that in Ierusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
4:21	Iesus saide vnto her, Woman, beleeue me, the houre commeth, when ye shall neither in this mountaine, nor at Hierusalem worship ye Father.
4:22	Ye worship that which ye knowe not: we worship that which we knowe: for saluation is of the Iewes.
4:23	But the houre commeth, and nowe is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit, and trueth: for the Father requireth euen such to worship him.
4:24	God is a Spirite, and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and trueth.
4:25	The woman said vnto him, I knowe well that Messias shall come which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell vs all things.
4:26	Iesus said vnto her, I am he, that speake vnto thee.
4:27	And vpon that, came his disciples, and marueiled that he talked with a woman: yet no man said vnto him, What askest thou? or why talkest thou with her?
4:28	The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the citie, and said to the men,
4:29	Come, see a man which hath tolde me all things that euer I did: is not he that Christ?
4:30	Then they went out of the citie, and came vnto him.
4:31	In the meane while, the disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eate.
4:32	But he said vnto them, I haue meate to eate that ye know not of.
4:33	Then said ye disciples betweene themselues, Hath any man brought him meate?
4:34	Iesus saide vnto them, My meate is that I may doe the will of him that sent me, and finish his worke.
4:35	Say not ye, There are yet foure moneths, and then commeth haruest? Beholde, I say vnto you, Lift vp your eyes, and looke on the regions: for they are white alreadie vnto haruest.
4:36	And he that reapeth, receiueth rewarde, and gathereth fruite vnto life eternall, that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, might reioyce together.
4:37	For herein is the saying true, that one soweth, and an other reapeth.
4:38	I sent you to reape that, whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entred into their labours.
4:39	Nowe many of the Samaritans of that citie beleeued in him, for the saying of the woman which testified, He hath tolde me all things that euer I did.
4:40	Then when the Samaritans were come vnto him, they besought him, that he woulde tarie with them: and he abode there two dayes.
4:41	And many moe beleeued because of his owne word.
4:42	And they said vnto the woman, Nowe we beleeue, not because of thy saying: for we haue heard him our selues, and knowe that this is in deede that Christ the Sauiour of the world.
4:43	So two dayes after he departed thence, and went into Galile.
4:44	For Iesus himselfe had testified, that a Prophet hath none honour in his owne countrey.
4:45	Then when he was come into Galile, the Galileans receiued him, which had seene all the things that he did at Hierusalem at the feast: for they went also vnto the feast.
4:46	And Iesus came againe into Cana a towne of Galile, where he had made of water, wine. And there was a certaine ruler, whose sonne was sicke at Capernaum.
4:47	When he heard that Iesus was come out of Iudea into Galile, he went vnto him, and besought him that he would goe downe, and heale his sonne: for he was euen ready to die.
4:48	Then saide Iesus vnto him, Except ye see signes and wonders, ye will not beleeue.
4:49	The ruler said vnto him, Syr, goe downe before my sonne dye.
4:50	Iesus said vnto him, Go thy way, thy sonne liueth: and the man beleeued the worde that Iesus had spoken vnto him, and went his way.
4:51	And as he was nowe going downe, his seruants met him, saying, Thy sonne liueth.
4:52	Then enquired he of them the houre when he began to amend. And they said vnto him, Yesterday the seuenth houre the feuer left him.
4:53	Then the father knew, that it was the same houre in the which Iesus had said vnto him, Thy sonne liueth. And he beleeued, and all his houshold.
4:54	This second miracle did Iesus againe, after he was come out of Iudea into Galile.


4:1	Assone as the Lorde had knowledge how the Pharises had hearde that Iesus made and baptised moo disciples then Iohn
4:2	(though that Iesus him selfe baptised not: but his disciples)
4:3	he lefte Iewry and departed agayne into Galile.
4:4	And it was so that he must nedes goo thorowe Samaria.
4:5	Then came he to a cyte of Samaria called Sichar besydes the possession that Iacob gave to his sonne Ioseph.
4:6	And there was Iacobs well. Iesus then weryed in his iorney sate thus on the well. And it was about the sixte houre:
4:7	and there came a woman of Samaria to drawe water. And Iesus sayde vnto her: geve me drynke.
4:8	For his disciples were gone awaye vnto the toune to bye meate.
4:9	Then sayde the woman of Samaria vnto him: how is it that thou beinge a Iewe axest drinke of me which am a Samaritane? for the Iewes medle not with the Samaritans.
4:10	Iesus answered and sayde vnto hir: yf thou knewest the gyfte of God and who it is that sayeth to the geve me drynke thou woldest have axed of him and he wolde have geven the water of lyfe.
4:11	The woman sayde vnto him. Syr thou hast no thinge to drawe with and the well is depe: from whence then hast thou yt water of lyfe?
4:12	Arte thou greater then oure father Iacob which gave vs the well and he him silfe dranke therof and his chyldren and his catell?
4:13	Iesus answered and sayde vnto hir: whosoever drinketh of this water shall thurst agayne.
4:14	But whosoever shall drinke of ye water yt I shall geve him shall never be more a thyrst: but the water that I shall geve him shalbe in him a well of water springinge vp in to everlastinge lyfe.
4:15	The woma sayd vnto him: Syr geve me of that water that I thyrst not nether come hedder to drawe.
4:16	Iesus sayde vnto her. Go and call thy husband and come hydder.
4:17	The woman answered and sayde to him: I have no husband.
4:18	Iesus sayde to her. Thou hast well sayd I have no husbande. For thou haste had five husbandes and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband. That saydest thou truely.
4:19	The woman sayde vnto him: Syr I perceave yt thou arte a prophet.
4:20	Oure fathers worshipped in this mountayne: and ye saye that in Hierusalem is the place where men ought to worshippe.
4:21	Iesus sayde vnto her: woman beleve me the houre cometh when ye shall nether in this moutayne nor yet at Ierusalem worshippe the father.
4:22	Ye worshippe ye wot not what: we knowe what we worshippe. For salvacion cometh of the Iewes.
4:23	But the houre commeth and nowe is when the true worshippers shall worshippe the father in sprete and in trouthe. For verely suche the father requyreth to worshippe him.
4:24	God is a sprete and they that worshippe him must worshippe him in sprete and trouthe.
4:25	The woman sayde vnto him: I wot well Messias shall come which is called Christ. When he is come he will tell vs all thinges.
4:26	Iesus sayde vnto hir: I that speake vnto the am he.
4:27	And eve at that poynte came his disciples and marvelled that he talked with the woman. Yet no man sayde vnto him: what meanest thou or why talkest thou with her?
4:28	The woma then lefte her waterpot and went her waye into the cite and sayde to the men.
4:29	Come se a man which tolde me all thinges yt ever I dyd. Is not he Christ?
4:30	Then they went ont of the cite and came vnto him.
4:31	And in ye meane while his disciples prayed him sayinge: Master eate.
4:32	He sayde vnto the: I have meate to eate that ye knowe not of.
4:33	Then sayd ye disciples bitwene them selves: hath eny ma brought him meate?
4:34	Iesus sayde vnto them: my meate is to doo the will of him that sent me. And to fynnysshe his worke.
4:35	Saye not ye: there are yet foure monethes and then cometh harvest? Beholde I saye vnto you lyfte vp youre eyes and loke on ye regios: for they are whyte all redy vnto harvest.
4:36	And he ye repeth receaveth rewarde and gaddereth frute vnto life eternall: that bothe he that soweth and he yt repeth myght reioyse to gether.
4:37	And herin is the sayinge true yt one soweth and another repeth.
4:38	I sent you to repe yt whero ye bestowed no laboure. Other men laboured and ye are entred into their labours.
4:39	Many of the Samaritas of that cyte beleved on him for ye sayinge of the woma which testified: he tolde me all thinges yt ever I dyd.
4:40	Then when the Samaritas were come vnto him they besought him yt he wolde tary wt the. And he aboode there two dayes.
4:41	And many moo beleved because of his awne wordes
4:42	and sayd vnto the woman: Now we beleve not because of thy sayinge. For we have herde him oure selves and knowe that this is even in dede Christ the savioure of the worlde.
4:43	After two dayes he departed thence and wet awaye into Galile.
4:44	And Iesus him selfe testified that a Prophete hath none honoure in his awne countre.
4:45	Then assone as he was come into Galile the Galileans receaved him which had sene all the thinges yt he dyd at Ierusalem at ye feast. For they wet also vnto ye feast daye.
4:46	And Iesus came agayne into Cana of Galile wher he turned water into wyne. And ther was a certayne ruler whose sonne was sicke at Capernaum.
4:47	Assone as the same herde that Iesus was come out of Iewry into Galile he wet vnto him and besought him yt he wolde descende and heale his sonne: For he was eve readie to dye.
4:48	Then sayde Iesus vnto him: excepte ye se signes and wodres ye canot beleve.
4:49	The ruler sayd vnto him: Syr come awaye or ever yt my chylde dye.
4:50	Iesus sayde vnto him goo thy waye thy sonne liveth. And the ma beleved ye wordes yt Iesus had spoke vnto him and wet his waye.
4:51	And anone as he went on his waye his servantes met him and tolde him sayinge: thy chylde liveth.
4:52	Then enquyred he of the the houre when he begane to amende. And they sayde vnto him: Yester daye the sevethe houre the fever lefte him.
4:53	And the father knew that it was the same houre in which Iesus sayde vnto him: Thy sonne liveth. And he beleved and all his housholde.
4:54	Thys is agayne the seconde myracle yt Iesus dyd after he was come oute of Iewry into Galile.
