John - Chapter: 6

>
6:1After these thinges Iesus went hys waye ouer the see of Galile whych is the see of Tiberias
6:2& a great multitude folowed him, because they sawe his myracles whych he dyd on them that were diseased.
6:3And Iesus went vp into a mountayne, & there he sate wyth hys disciples.
6:4And easter, a feast of the Iewes was nye.
6:5When Iesus then lyfte vp his eyes, and sawe a great company come vnto him, he sayeth vnto Philip: whence shall we bye breed, that these maye eate?
6:6This he sayd to proue hym: for he him selfe knewe, what he wolde do.
6:7Philip answered him two hundred peny worthe of breed are not sufficient for them, that euery man maye take a lytell.
6:8One of his disciples (Andrew, Simon Peters brother) sayeth vnto him:
6:9There is a lad here, whych hath fyue barly loues and two fysshes: but what are they amonge so many?
6:10And Iesus sayde. Make the people syt downe. Ther was moch grasse in that place. So the men sate downe in nombre, about fyue thousand.
6:11And Iesus toke the breed: And whan he had geuen thanckes, he gaue to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set downe: And lykewyse of the fysshes as moch as they wolde:
6:12When they had eaten ynough, he sayeth vnto his disciples: gather vp the broken meate whych remayneth: that nothynge be lost.
6:13And they gathered it together, and fylled twelue baskettes with the broken meate of the fyue barly loaues: whych broken meate remayned vnto them that had eaten.
6:14Then those men (when they had sene the myracle that Iesus dyd) sayd: this is of a trueth the same Prophete, that shulde come into the worlde.
6:15When Iesus therfore perceaued, that they wolde come, & take hym vp to make hym kyng, he departed agayne into a mountayne him selfe alone.
6:16And when euen was now come, hys disciples went downe vnto the see,
6:17& gat vp into a shippe, and came ouer the see vnto Capernaum. And it was now darcke, and Iesus was not come to them.
6:18And the see arose with a greate wynde that blewe.
6:19So when they had rowen about a .xxv. or .xxx. furlonges, they sawe Iesus walkyng in the see, & drawing nye vnto the shippe, & they were afrayed.
6:20But he sayeth vnto them: It is I, be not afrayde.
6:21Then wold they haue receaued him into the shyp, & immediatly the shyp was at the lande whyther they went.
6:22The daye folowynge whan the people (whych stode on the other syde of the see) sawe, that ther was none other shyp there, saue that one wher into his disciples were entred, & that Iesus went not in wyth his disciples into the shyp: but that his disciples were gone awaye alone
6:23(Howbeit, ther cam other shyppes from Tiberias nye vnto the place, where they dyd eate bred, after that the Lord had geuen thankes)
6:24when the people therfore sawe that Iesus was not there, nether hys disciples, they also toke shypping, & came to Capernaum, sekynge for Iesus.
6:25And when they had founde hym on the other syde of the see, they sayde vnto hym: Rabbi, when camest thou hyther?
6:26Iesus answered them, and sayde: verely, verely I saye vnto you: ye seke me, not because ye sawe the myracles but because ye dyd eate of the loaues, and were fylled.
6:27Laboure not for the meate whych perissheth, but for that whych endureth vnto euerlastinge lyfe, whych meate the sonne of man shall geue vnto you. For hym hath God the father sealed.
6:28Then sayde they vnto him: what shal we do, that we myght worcke the worckes of God?
6:29Iesus answered & sayde vnto them: This is the worcke of God, that ye beleue on him, whom he hath sent,
6:30They sayde therfore vnto him what sygne shewest thou then, that we maye se, and beleue the? What doest thou worcke?
6:31Oure fathers dyd eate Manna in the desert as it is wrytten: He gaue them breed from heauen to eate.
6:32Then Iesus sayde vnto them: verely, verely I saye vnto you: Moses gaue you not that breed from heauen: but my father geueth you the true breed from heauen.
6:33For the breed of God is he, whych commeth downe from heauen, and geueth lyfe vnto the worlde.
6:34Then sayd they vnto him: Lord, euermore geue vs this breed.
6:35And Iesus sayd vnto them. I am the breed of lyfe. He that commeth to me shall not honger: and he that beleueth on me shall neuer thurst.
6:36But I sayde vnto you: that ye also haue sene me, and yet ye beleue not.
6:37All that the father geueth me shall come to me: and he that commeth to me, I cast not awaye?
6:38For I came downe from heauen: not to do that I will, but that he will, whych hath sent me.
6:39And this is the fathers wyll whych hath sent me, that of all whych he hath geuen me, I shall loose nothinge: but rayse them vp agayne at the last daye.
6:40And thys is the will of him that sent me: that euery one whych seeth the sonne and beleueth on him, haue euerlasting lyfe. And I wyll rayse him vp at the last daye.
6:41The Iewes then murmured at him, because he sayd: I am the breed whych came downe from heauen.
6:42And they sayde: Is not this Iesus the sonne of Ioseph, whose father & mother we knowe? How is it then that he sayeth, I came downe from heauen?
6:43Iesus answered & sayd vnto them. Murmur not amonge youre selues.
6:44No man can come to me, except the father which hath sent me, drawe hym: And I wyll rayse hym vp at the last daye.
6:45It is written in the Prophetes: and they shalbe all taught of God. Euery man therfore that hath hearde, and hath learned of the father, commeth vnto me.
6:46Not that eny man hath sene the father, saue he which is of God: the same hath sene the father.
6:47Uerely, verely, I saye vnto you: he that putteth his trust in me, hath euerlastinge lyfe.
6:48I am that breed of lyfe.
6:49Youre fathers dyd eate Manna in the wyldernes, & are deed?
6:50Thys is that breed, whych commeth downe from heauen, that a man maye eate therof, & not dye.
6:51I am that lyuinge bread, whych came downe from heauen. If eny man eate of this bread, he shall liue for euer And the breed that I will geue, is my flesshe, whych I will geue for the lyfe of the worlde.
6:52The Iewes therfore stroue amonge them selues, saying: How can this felowe geue vs the flessh of his, to eate?
6:53Then Iesus sayde vnto them: Uerely, verely, I saye vnto you, except ye eate the flesshe of the sonne of man, and drinke his bloude: ye haue no lyfe in you.
6:54Whoso eateth my flesshe & dryncketh my bloude, hath eternall lyfe, & I wyll rayse him vp at the last daye.
6:55For my fleshe is meate in dede: and my bloude is drincke in dede.
6:56He that eateth my flesshe & drinketh my bloude, dwelleth in me and I in him.
6:57As the lyuinge father hath sent me, and I liue for the father: Euen so he that eateth me, shall lyue by the meanes of me.
6:58This is the breed, which cam downe from heauen: not as youre fathers dyd eate Manna, & are deed: He that eateth of this breed, shall lyue euer.
6:59These thinges sayd he in the synagoge, as he taught in Capernaum.
6:60Many therfore of his disciples (when they had herde this) sayde: this is an harde sayinge: who can abyde the bearinge of it?
6:61Iesus knewe in him selfe, that his disciples murmured at it, & he sayd vnto them: Doth this offende you?
6:62What and yf ye shall se the sonne of man ascende vp thither where he was before?
6:63It is the sprete that quyckeneth, the flesh proffyteth nothinge. The wordes that I speake vnto you, are sprete and lyfe.
6:64But there are some of you that beleue not. For Iesus knewe from the begynninge, which they were, that beleued not, & who shulde betraye him:
6:65And he sayd: therfore sayde I vnto you: that noman can come vnto me, except it were geuen vnto hym of my father.
6:66From that tyme many of his disciples went backe, and forsoke him, and walked nomore with hym.
6:67Then sayde Iesus to the twelue: wyll ye also goo awaye?
6:68Then Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou haste the wordes of eternall lyfe
6:69and we beleue and are sure that thou art Chryst the sonne of the lyuinge God.
6:70Iesus answereth them: Haue not I chosen you twelue, and one of you is a deuyll?
6:71He spake of Iudas Iscarioth the sonne of Simon. For he it was, that shuld betraye hym, beynge one of the twelue.

6:1Aftir these thingis Jhesus wente ouere the see of Galilee, that is Tiberias.
6:2And a greet multitude suede hym; for thei sayn the tokenes, that he dide on hem that weren sijke.
6:3Therfor Jhesus wente in to an hil, and sat there with hise disciplis.
6:4And the paske was ful niy, a feeste dai of the Jewis.
6:5Therfor whanne Jhesus hadde lift vp hise iyen, and hadde seyn, that a greet multitude cam to hym, he seith to Filip, Wherof schulen we bie looues, that these men ete?
6:6But he seide this thing, temptynge hym; for he wiste what he was to do.
6:7Filip answerde to hym, The looues of tweyn hundrid pans sufficen not to hem, that ech man take a litil what.
6:8Oon of hise disciplis, Andrew, the brothir of Symount Petre,
6:9seith to him, A child is here, that hath fyue barli looues and twei fischis; but what ben these among so manye?
6:10Therfor Jhesus seith, Make ye hem sitte to the mete. And there was myche hey in the place. And so men saten to the mete, as `fyue thousynde in noumbre.
6:11And Jhesus took fyue looues, and whanne he hadde do thankyngis, he departide to men that saten to the mete, and also of the fischis, as myche as thei wolden.
6:12And whanne thei weren fillid, he seide to hise disciplis, Gadir ye the relifs that ben left, that thei perischen not.
6:13And so thei gadriden, and filliden twelue cofyns of relif of the fyue barli looues and twei fischis, that lefte to hem that hadden etun.
6:14Therfor tho men, whanne thei hadden seyn the signe that he hadde don, seiden, For this is verili the profete, that is to come in to the world.
6:15And whanne Jhesus hadde knowun, that thei weren to come to take hym, and make hym kyng, he fleiy `aloone eft in to an hille.
6:16And whanne euentid was comun, his disciplis wenten doun to the see.
6:17And thei wenten vp in to a boot, and thei camen ouer the see in to Cafarnaum. And derknessis weren maad thanne, and Jhesus was not come to hem.
6:18And for a greet wynde blew, the see roos vp.
6:19Therfor whanne thei hadden rowid as fyue and twenti furlongis or thretti, thei seen Jhesus walkynge on the see, and to be neiy the boot; and thei dredden.
6:20And he seide to hem, Y am; nyle ye drede.
6:21Therfor thei wolden take hym in to the boot, and anoon the boot was at the loond, to which thei wenten.
6:22On `the tother dai the puple, that stood ouer the see, say, that ther was noon other boot there but oon, and that Jhesu entride not with hise disciplis in to the boot, but hise disciplis aloone wenten.
6:23But othere bootis camen fro Tiberias bisidis the place, where thei hadden eetun breed, and diden thankyngis to God.
6:24Therfor whanne the puple hadde seyn, that Jhesu was not there, nether hise disciplis, thei wenten vp in to bootis, and camen to Cafarnaum, sekynge Jhesu.
6:25And whanne thei hadden foundun hym ouer the see, thei seiden to hym, Rabi, hou come thou hidur?
6:26Jhesus answerde to hem, and seide, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, ye seken me, not for ye sayn the myraclis, but for ye eten of looues, and weren fillid.
6:27Worche ye not mete that perischith, but that dwellith in to euerlastynge lijf, which mete mannys sone schal yyue to you; for God the fadir hath markid hym.
6:28Therfor thei seiden to hym, What schulen we do, that we worche the werkis of God?
6:29Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, This is the werk of God, that ye bileue to hym, whom he sente.
6:30Therfor thei seiden to hym, What tokene thanne doist thou, that we seen, and bileue to thee? what worchist thou?
6:31Oure fadris eeten manna in desert, as it is writun, He yaf to hem breed fro heuene to ete.
6:32Therfor Jhesus seith to hem, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, Moyses yaf you not breed fro heuene, but my fadir yyueth you veri breed fro heuene;
6:33for it is very breed that cometh doun fro heuene, and yyueth lijf to the world.
6:34Therfor thei seiden to hym, Lord, euere yyue vs this breed.
6:35And Jhesus seide to hem, Y am breed of lijf; he that cometh to me, schal not hungur; he that bileueth in me, schal neuere thirste.
6:36But Y seid to you, that ye han seyn me, and ye bileueden not.
6:37Al thing, that the fadir yyueth to me, schal come to me; and Y schal not caste hym out, that cometh to me.
6:38For Y cam doun fro heuene, not that Y do my wille, but the wille of hym that sente me.
6:39And this is the wille of the fadir that sente me, that al thing that the fadir yaf me, Y leese not of it, but ayen reise it in the laste dai.
6:40And this is the wille of my fadir that sente me, that ech man that seeth the sone, and bileueth in hym, haue euerlastynge lijf; and Y schal ayen reyse hym in the laste dai.
6:41Therfor Jewis grutchiden of hym, for he hadde seid, Y am breed that cam doun fro heuene.
6:42And thei seiden, Whether this is not Jhesus, the sone of Joseph, whos fadir and modir we han knowun. Hou thanne seith this, That Y cam doun fro heuene?
6:43Therfor Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, Nyle ye grutche togidere.
6:44No man may come to me, but if the fadir that sente me, drawe hym; and Y schal ayen reise hym in the laste dai. It is writun in prophetis,
6:45And alle men schulen be able for to be tauyt `of God. Ech man that herde of the fadir, and hath lerned, cometh to me.
6:46Not for ony man hath sey the fadir, but this that is of God, hath sey the fadir.
6:47Sotheli, sotheli, Y seie to you, he that bileueth in me, hath euerlastynge lijf.
6:48Y am breed of lijf.
6:49Youre fadris eeten manna in desert, and ben deed.
6:50This is breed comynge doun fro heuene, that if ony man ete therof, he die not.
6:51Y am lyuynge breed, that cam doun fro heuene.
6:52If ony man ete of this breed, he schal lyue withouten ende. And the breed that Y schal yyue, is my fleisch for the lijf of the world.
6:53Therfor the Jewis chidden togidere, and seiden, Hou may this yyue to vs his fleisch to ete?
6:54Therfor Jhesus seith to hem, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, but ye eten the fleisch of mannus sone, and drenken his blood, ye schulen not haue lijf in you.
6:55He that etith my fleisch, and drynkith my blood, hath euerlastynge lijf, and Y schal ayen reise hym in the laste dai.
6:56For my fleisch is veri mete, and my blood is very drynk.
6:57He that etith my fleisch, and drynkith my blood, dwellith in me, and Y in hym.
6:58As my fadir lyuynge sente me, and Y lyue for the fadir, and he that etith me, he schal lyue for me.
6:59This is breed, that cam doun fro heuene. Not as youre fadris eten manna, and ben deed; he that etith this breed, schal lyue withouten ende.
6:60He seide these thingis in the synagoge, techynge in Cafarnaum.
6:61Therfor many of hise disciplis herynge, seiden, This word is hard, who may here it?
6:62But Jhesus witynge at hym silf, that hise disciplis grutchiden of this thing, seide to hem, This thing sclaundrith you?
6:63Therfor if ye seen mannus sone stiynge, where he was bifor?
6:64It is the spirit that quykeneth, the fleisch profitith no thing; the wordis that Y haue spokun to you, ben spirit and lijf.
6:65But ther ben summe of you that bileuen not. For Jhesus wiste fro the bigynnynge, which weren bileuynge, and who was to bitraye hym.
6:66And he seide, Therfor Y seide to you, that no man may come to me, but it were youun to hym of my fadir.
6:67Fro this tyme many of hise disciplis wenten abak, and wenten not now with hym.
6:68Therfor Jhesus seide to the twelue, Whether ye wolen also go awei?
6:69And Symount Petre answeride to hym, Lord, to whom schulen we gon? Thou hast wordis of euerlastynge lijf;
6:70and we bileuen, and han knowun, that thou art Crist, the sone of God.
6:71Therfor Jhesus answerde to hem, Whether Y chees not you twelue, and oon of you is a feend?

6:1After this wente Iesus ouer the see vnto the cite Tiberias in Galilee.
6:2And moch people folowed him, because they sawe the tokens that he dyd vpon the which were diseased.
6:3But Iesus wete vp in to a mountayne, and there he sat with his disciples.
6:4And Easter ye feast of the Iewes was nye.
6:5Then Iesus lift vp his eyes, and sawe yt there came moch people vnto him, and he sayde vnto Philippe: Whence shal we bye bred, yt these maye eate?
6:6But this he sayde to proue him, for he himself knewe, what he wolde do.
6:7Philippe answered him: Two hundreth peny worth of bred is not ynough amonge the, yt euery one maye take a litle.
6:8The sayde vnto hi one of his disciples, Andrew ye brother of Symo Peter:
6:9There is a lad here, yt hath fyue barlye loaues, and two fishes, but what is that amoge so many?
6:10Iesus sayde: Make the people syt downe. There was moch grasse in the place. Then they sat the downe, aboute a fyue thousande men.
6:11Iesus toke the loaues, thanked, and gaue them to the disciples: the disciples (gaue) to them that were set downe. Likewyse also of the fishes as moch as they wolde.
6:12Whan they were fylled, he sayde vnto his disciples: Gather vp the broken meate that remayneth, that nothinge be lost.
6:13The they gathered, and fylled twolue baskettes with the broke meate, that remayned of the fyue barlye loaues, vnto them which had eaten.
6:14Now whan the men sawe the token yt Iesus dyd, they saide: This is of a trueth the Prophet, yt shulde come into the worlde.
6:15Whan Iesus now perceaued that they wolde come, and take him vp, to make him kynge, he gat him awaye agayne in to a mountayne himself alone.
6:16At euen wente his disciples downe to ye see,
6:17and entred in to the shippe, and came to the other syde of ye see vnto Capernau. And it was darcke allready. And Iesus was not come to the.
6:18And ye see arose thorow a greate wynde.
6:19Now whan they had rowed vpo a fyue and twetie or thirtie furlonges, they sawe Iesus goinge vpon the see, and came nye to the shippe. And they were afrayed.
6:20But he sayde vnto them: It is I, be not afrayed.
6:21Then wolde they haue receaued him in to ye shippe. And immediatly ye shippe was at the londe whither they wente.
6:22The nexte daye after, the people which stode on the other syde of the see, sawe that there was none other shippe there saue that one, wherin to his disciples were entred: and that Iesus wete not in with his disciples in to the shippe, but yt his discip
6:23Howbeit there came other shippes from Tiberias, nye vnto ye place where they had eate the bred, after yt the LORDE had geuen thankes.
6:24Now whan the people sawe that Iesus was not there, nether his disciples, they toke shippe also, and came to Capernaum, and sought Iesus.
6:25And whan they founde him on the other syde of the see, they sayde vnto him: Master, whan camest thou hither?
6:26Iesus answered the, & sayde: Verely verely I saye vnto you: Ye seke me not because ye sawe ye tokes, but because ye ate of the loaues, and were fylled.
6:27Laboure not for the meate which perisheth but yt endureth vnto euerlastinge life, which the sonne of ma shal geue you: For him hath God the father sealed.
6:28The sayde they vnto him: What shal we do, that we maye worke ye workes of God?
6:29Iesus answered, and sayde vnto the: This is the worke of God, that ye beleue on him, whom he hath sent.
6:30Then sayde they vnto him: What token doest thou the, that we maye se and beleue ye? What workest thou?
6:31Oure fathers ate Mana in the wyldernesse, as it is wrytte: He gaue the bred fro heauen to eate.
6:32Then sayde Iesus vnto the: Verely verely I saye vnto you: Moses gaue you not bred from heaue, but my father geueth you the true bred from heauen:
6:33For this is that bred of God, which commeth from heauen, and geueth life vnto the worlde.
6:34The sayde they vnto him: Syr, geue vs allwaye soch bred.
6:35But Iesus sayde vnto the: I am yt bred of life. He that cometh vnto me, shal not huger: & he that beleueth on me, shal neuer thyrst.
6:36But I haue sayde vnto you, yt ye haue sene me, and yet ye beleue not.
6:37All that my father geueth me, cometh vnto me: and who so cometh vnto me, him wyl not I cast out:
6:38for I am come downe from heaue, not to do myne awne wyll, but the wyll of him that hath sent me.
6:39This is ye will of the father, which hath sent me, that of all that he hath geue me, I shulde lose nothinge, but shulde rayse it vp agayne at the last daye.
6:40This is the wyl of him which hath sent me, that, who soeuer seyth the sonne and beleueth on him, haue euerlastinge life, and I shal rayse him vp at the last daye.
6:41The murmured the Iewes ther ouer, that he sayde: I am yt bred which is come downe from heaue,
6:42and they sayde: Is not this Iesus, Iosephs sonne, whose father and mother we knowe? How sayeth he then, I am come downe from heauen?
6:43Iesus answered, and sayde vnto them: Murmur not amonge youre selues.
6:44No man can come vnto me, excepte the father which hath sent me, drawe him. And I shal rayse him vp at the last daye.
6:45It is wrytten in the prophetes: They shal all be taught of God. Who so euer now heareth it of the father, and lerneth it, commeth vnto me.
6:46Not that eny man hath sene the father, saue he which is of the father, the same hath sene the father.
6:47Verely verely I saye vnto you: He that beleueth on me, hath euerlastinge life.
6:48I am that bred of life.
6:49Youre fathers ate Manna in the wyldernes, and are deed.
6:50This is that bred which commeth from heauen, that who so eateth therof, shulde not dye.
6:51I am that lyuynge bred, which came downe fro heauen: Who so eateth of this bred, shal lyue for euer. And the bred that I wil geue, is my flesh which I wil geue for ye life of the worlde.
6:52Then stroue the Iewes amonge them selues, and sayde: How ca this folowe geue vs his flesh to eate?
6:53Iesus sayde vnto the: Verely verely I saye vnto you: Excepte ye eate ye flesh of ye sonne of man and drynke his bloude, ye haue no life in you.
6:54Who so eateth my flesh, and drynketh my bloude, hath euerlastinge life: and I shal rayse him vp at the last daye.
6:55For my flesh is ye very meate, and my bloude is ye very drynke.
6:56Who so eateth my flesh, and drynketh my bloude, abydeth in me, and I in him.
6:57As the lyuynge father hath sent me, and I lyue for the fathers sake: Euen so he that eateth me, shall lyue for my sake.
6:58This is ye bred which is come fro heauen: Not as youre fathers ate Manna, and are deed. He that eateth of this bred, shal lyue for euer.
6:59These thinges sayde he in the synagoge, wha he taught at Capernaum.
6:60Many now of his disciples that herde this, sayde: This is an harde sayenge, who maye abyde the hearynge of it?
6:61But whan Iesus perceaued in hi self, that his discipes murmured ther at he sayde vnto them: Doth this offende you?
6:62What and yf ye shal se the sonne of man ascende vp thither, where he was afore?
6:63It is ye sprete that quyckeneth, ye flesh profiteth nothinge. The wordes that I speake, are sprete, and are life.
6:64But there are some amoge you, that beleue not. For Iesus knewe well from the begynnynge, which they were that beleued not, and who shulde betraye him.
6:65And he sayde: Therfore haue I sayde vnto you: No man can come vnto me, excepte it be geuen him of my father.
6:66From that tyme forth, many of his disciples wente backe, and walked nomore with him.
6:67Then sayde Iesus vnto the twolue: Wyll ye also go awaye?
6:68Then answered Simon Peter: LORDE, Whither shal we go? Thou hast the wordes of euerlastinge life:
6:69and we haue beleued & knowne, that thou art Christ the sonne of the lyuynge God.
6:70Iesus answered them. Haue I not chosen you twolue, and one of you is a deuell?
6:71But he spake of Iudas Symon Iscarioth: the same betrayed him afterwarde, and was one of the twolue.
