11:1	A certayne man was sicke, named Lazarus of Bethania, the toune of Marye and her syster Martha.
11:2	It was that Marye whiche annoynted Iesus with oyntment and wyped hys fete with her heyre, whose brother Lazarus was sicke,
11:3	and hys systers sente vnto hym, saiynge: Lorde, beholde, he whome thou louest, is sicke.
11:4	When Iesus hearde, that he sayed: this infirmitie is not vnto death, but for the laude of God that the sonne of God myght be praysed by the reason of it.
11:5	Iesus loued Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
11:6	Then after he had hearde that he was sicke, yet abode he two dayes styll in the same place, where he was.
11:7	Then after that sayde he to hys disciples: Let vs go into Iewry agayne.
11:8	His discyples sayde vnto hym: Mayster, the Iewes latelye sought meanes to stone the, and wylt thou go thyther agayne?
11:9	Iesus aunswered: are there not .xij. houres in the daye of a man walke in the daye, he stombleth not, because he seeth the lyght of thys world.
11:10	But yf a man walke in the nyght, he stombleth, because there is no lyght in him.
11:11	This sayed he, and after that, he sayed vnto them: oure frende Lazarus slepeth but I go to wake him out of slepe.
11:12	Then sayed hys discyples: Lorde yf he slepe, he shall do well ynough.
11:13	Howe be it Iesus spake of hys death: but they thought that he had spoken of the naturall slepe.
11:14	Then sayd Iesus vnto them plainly: Lazarus is dead,
11:15	and I am glad for youre sakes, that I was not there, because ye may beleue. Neuerthelesse let vs go vnto him.
11:16	Then sayde Thomas whiche is called Dydymus, vnto the discyples: Let vs also go, that we maye dye with hym.
11:17	Then wente Iesus, and founde that he had lyen in hys graue foure dayes already.
11:18	Bethanye was nye vnto Hierusalem aboute .xv. furlonges of,
11:19	and manye of the Iewes were come to Martha and Marye to comforte them ouer theyr brother.
11:20	Martha assone as she hearde that Iesus was commynge, went, and met hym: but Mary sat styll in the house.
11:21	Then sayde Martha vnto Iesus: Lorde, yf thou haddest bene here, my brother had not ben dead:
11:22	but neuerthelesse, I know that whatsoeuer thou axest of God, God wyl geue it the.
11:23	Iesus sayde vnto her: thy brother shall ryse agayne.
11:24	Martha sayed vnto him: I knowe that he shall ryse agayne in the resurreccyon at the laste daye.
11:25	Iesus sayed vnto her: I am the resurreccion and the lyfe. He that beleueth on me, ye though he were dead, yet shall he lyue.
11:26	And whosoeuer lyueth, and beleueth on me, shall neuer dye. Beleuest thou thys?
11:27	She sayd vnto hym: ye Lorde I beleue that thou arte Christe the sonne of God, which should come into the worlde.
11:28	And assone as she had so sayd, she went her waye, and called Marye her syster secretelye, saiynge: The mayster is come, and calleth for the.
11:29	And she assone as she hearde that, arose quickly, and came vnto hym.
11:30	Iesus was not yet come into the toune, but was in the place where Martha met hym.
11:31	The Iewes then which were with her in the house and comforted her, when they sawe Mary, that she arose vp hastely, and went out, and folowed her, saiynge: She goeth vnto the graue, to wepe there.
11:32	Then when Mary was come, where Iesus was, and sawe hym, she fell doune at hys fete, saiynge vnto hym: Lorde yf thou haddest bene here, my brother had not ben dead.
11:33	When Iesus sawe her wepe, and the Iewes also wepe which came with her, he groned in the spirite, and was troubled in hym self,
11:34	& sayd: Where haue ye layed hym? They sayde vnto hym: Lorde, come and se.
11:35	And Iesus wepte.
11:36	Then sayde the Iewes: Beholde, howe he loued him.
11:37	And some of them sayde: coulde not he which opened the eyes of the blynde, haue made also that thys man shoulde not haue dyed?
11:38	Iesus agayne groned in hym selfe, and came to the graue: it was a caue and a stone layde on it.
11:39	And Iesus sayde: take ye away the stone. Martha the syster of hym that was dead, said vnto him: Lorde by thys tyme he stinketh: for he hath bene dead four dayes.
11:40	Iesus sayed vnto her: Sayd I not vnto the, that yf thou dyddest beleue, thou shouldest se the glory of God.
11:41	Then they toke awaye the stone from that place where the dead was layde. And Iesus lyft vp hys eyes, and sayde: Father I thanke the because that thou haste hearde me.
11:42	I wote that thou hearest me alwayes: but because of the people that stande by, I sayed it, that they may beleue that thou hast sent me.
11:43	And when he thus had spoken: he cryed wt a loude voyce: Lazarus come forth.
11:44	And he that was dead, came forth, bounde hand and fote with graue boundes, and his face was bounde with a napkin. Iesus sayed vnto them, lowse him, and let hym go.
11:45	Then many of the Iewes which came to Marye, and had sene the thynges whiche Iesus dyd, beleued on hym.
11:46	But some of them went theyr wayes to the Pharises, and tolde them what Iesus had done.
11:47	Then gathered the hye Priestes and Pharyses a counsel and sayd: What do we? This man doth many myracles:
11:48	yf we let hym scape thus, all men wyll beleue on hym, & the Romaynes shall come and take away our countrey and the people.
11:49	And one of them named Cayphas which was the hye prieste that same yeare sayde vnto them: ye perceyue nothynge at all, nor yet consyder that
11:50	it is expedyent for vs, that one man dye for the people, & not that all the people peryshe.
11:51	Thys spake he not of hym selfe, but beynge hye Prieste that same yeare he prophesyed that Iesus shoulde dye for the people,
11:52	and not for the people only, but that he shoulde gather together in one the children of God which were scattered abrode.
11:53	From that daye forth they helde a counsell together, for to put hym to death.
11:54	Iesus therfore walked no more openlye amonge the Iewes, but went hys waye thence vnto a countrye nyghe to the wyldernes, into a cytye called Ephraim, & ther haunted wt his disciples.
11:55	And the Iewes Easter was nye at hande, and manye wente oute of the countrye vp to Hierusalem before the Easter, to purifie them selues.
11:56	Then soughte they for Iesus, and spake amonge them selues, as they stode in that temple: What thynke ye, seynge he commeth not to the feast
11:57	The hye priestes and Pharyseis had geuen a commaundement, that yf any man knewe, where he were, he shoulde shew it, that they myght take hym.

11:6	Whan he had heard therfore, that he was sycke, he abode two dayes styll in the same place where he was.
11:7	Then after that, sayd he to his disciples: let vs go into Iewry agayne.
11:8	Hys disciples sayde vnto hym: Master, the Iewes lately sought to stone the, and wylt thou go thyther agayne?
11:9	Iesus answered: are there not .xij. houres of the daye? If a man walke in the daye, he stombleth not, because he seeth the light of this worlde.
11:10	But yf a man walke in the nyght, he stombleth, because there is no lyght in him.
11:11	This sayd he, and after that he sayd vnto them: our frende Lazarus slepeth: but I go to wake him out of slep.

11:15	and I am glad for your sakes, that I was not there, because ye maye beleue. Neuertheles, let vs go vnto him.
11:16	Then sayd Thomas (which is called Dydimus) vnto the disciples: lett vs also go, that we maye dye with hym.

11:22	neuerthelesse, nowe I knowe that whatsoeuer thou askest of God, God wyll geue it the.
11:23	Iesus sayth vnto her: Thy brother shall ryse agayne.
11:24	Martha sayeth vnto hym: I knowe that he shall ryse agayne in the resurreccyon at the last daye.

11:32	Then when Mary was come wher Iesus was, and sawe hym, she cometh nye vnto his fete, and sayth vnto him: Lorde, yf thou haddest bene here, my brother had not bene deed.
11:33	When Iesus therfore sawe her wepe (and the Iewes also weping which came wt her) he groned in the sprete, and was troubled in him selfe,
11:34	and sayde: Where haue ye layed him? They saye vnto him: Lorde, come, and se.
11:35	And Iesus wept.
11:36	Then sayd the Iewes Behold, howe he loued hym.
11:37	And som of them sayde: coulde not he which opened the eyes of the blynde, haue made also, that this man shulde not haue dyed?
11:38	Iesus therfore agayne groned in him self, and came to the graue. It was a caue, and a stone layde on it.
11:39	Iesus sayd: take ye awaye the stone. Martha the sister of him that was deed, sayd vnhym: Lorde, by this tyme he styncketh. For he hath bene deed foure dayes.
11:40	Iesus sayeth vnto her: Sayd I not vnto the, that yf thou dydest beleue, thou shuldest se the glorye of God?
11:41	Then they toke awaye the stone from the place where he that had bene deed, was layde. And Iesus lyft vp his eyes, and sayd: Father, I thanke the, that thou hast hearde me.
11:42	Howbeit, I knewe, that thou hearest me allwayes: but because of the people which stande by. I sayde it, that they maye beleue, that thou hast sent me.
11:43	And when he thus had spoken, he cryed wt a loud voyce: Lazarus, come forth.
11:44	And he that was deed, came forth, bounde hande & fote wt graue clothes, & his face was bound with a napkin. Iesus sayd vnto them: loose him, & let him go.
11:45	Then many of the Iewes which came to Mary (and had sene the thynges which Iesus dyd) beleued on hym.
11:46	But some of them went theyr wayes to the pharises, & tolde them what Iesus had done.
11:47	Then gathered the hye prestes & the pharises a councel, & sayd: what do we? For this man doth many miracles.

11:54	Iesus therfore walked nomore openly among the Iewes: but went his waye thence vnto a countre nye to a wildernes, into a cytie which is called Ephraim, and there contynued wt his disciples.
11:55	And the Iewes Easter was nye at hand, & many went out of the countre vp to Ierusalem before the Easter, to purify them selues.
11:56	Then sought they for Iesus, & spake among them selues, as they stode in the temple: What thinke ye, seyng he commeth not to the feaste daye?

11:5	Nowe Iesus loued Martha and her sister, and Lazarus.
11:6	And after he had heard that he was sicke, yet abode hee two dayes still in the same place where he was.
11:7	Then after that, said he to his disciples, Let vs goe into Iudea againe.
11:8	The disciples saide vnto him, Master, the Iewes lately sought to stone thee, and doest thou goe thither againe?
11:9	Iesus answered, Are there not twelue houres in the day? If a man walke in the day, hee stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
11:10	But if a man walke in the night, hee stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
11:11	These things spake he, and after, he said vnto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth: but I goe to wake him vp.
11:12	Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleepe, he shalbe safe.
11:13	Howbeit, Iesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of the naturall sleepe.
11:14	Then saide Iesus vnto them plainely, Lazarus is dead.
11:15	And I am glad for your sakes, that I was not there, that ye may beleeue: but let vs go vnto him.
11:16	Then saide Thomas (which is called Didymus) vnto his felow disciples, Let vs also goe, that we may die with him.
11:17	Then came Iesus, and found that he had lien in the graue foure dayes alreadie.
11:18	(Nowe Bethania was neere vnto Hierusalem, about fifteene furlongs off.)
11:19	And many of ye Iewes were come to Martha and Marie to comfort them for their brother.
11:20	Then Martha, when shee heard that Iesus was comming, went to meete him: but Mary sate still in the house.
11:21	Then said Martha vnto Iesus, Lord, if thou hadst bene here, my brother had not bene dead.
11:22	But now I know also, that whatsoeuer thou askest of God, God will giue it thee.
11:23	Iesus said vnto her, Thy brother shall rise againe.
11:24	Martha said vnto him, I know that he shall rise againe in the resurrection at the last day.
11:25	Iesus saide vnto her, I am the resurrection and the life: he that beleeueth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he liue.
11:26	And whosoeuer liueth, and beleeueth in me, shall neuer die: Beleeuest thou this?
11:27	She said vnto him, Yea, Lord, I beleeue that thou art that Christ that Sonne of God, which should come into the world.
11:28	And when she had so saide, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
11:29	And when she heard it, shee arose quickly, and came vnto him.

11:42	I knowe that thou hearest me alwayes, but because of the people that stand by, I said it, that they may beleeue, that thou hast sent me.
11:43	As hee had spoken these things, hee cried with a loude voyce, Lazarus, come foorth.
11:44	Then he that was dead, came forth, bound hande and foote with bandes, and his face was bound with a napkin. Iesus said vnto them, Loose him, and let him goe.
11:45	Then many of the Iewes, which came to Mary, and had seene the thinges, which Iesus did, beleeued in him.
11:46	But some of them went their way to the Pharises, and told them what things Iesus had done.
11:47	Then gathered the hie Priests, and the Pharises a councill, and said, What shall we doe? For this man doeth many miracles.
11:48	If we let him thus alone, all men will beleeue in him, and the Romanes will come and take away both our place, and the nation.
11:49	Then one of them named Caiaphas, which was the hie Priest that same yere, said vnto them, Ye perceiue nothing at all,
11:50	Nor yet doe you consider that it is expedient for vs, that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
11:51	This spake hee not of himselfe: but being hie Priest that same yere, he prophecied that Iesus should die for that nation:
11:52	And not for that nation onely, but that he shoulde gather together in one the children of God, which were scattered.
11:53	Then from that day foorth they consulted together, to put him to death.
11:54	Iesus therefore walked no more openly among the Iewes, but went thence vnto a countrey neere to the wildernes, into a citie called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
11:55	And the Iewes Passeouer was at hande, and many went out of the countrey vp to Hierusalem before the Passeouer, to purifie themselues.
11:56	Then sought they for Iesus, and spake among themselues, as they stoode in the Temple, What thinke ye, that he cometh not to the feast?
11:57	Now both the high Priestes and the Pharises had giuen a commandement, that if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
