26:1	Agrippa sayde vnto Paul: thou art permytted to speake for thy selfe. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for hym selfe.
26:2	I thinke my self happy king Agrippa, because I shall answere this daye before the, of all the thinges wherof, I am accused of the Iewes:
26:3	namely, because thou arte experte in all customes and questions, which are among the Iewes. Wherfore I beseche the, to heare me paciently.
26:4	My lyuynge that I haue lead of a chylde (which was at the fyrst among myne awne nacion at Ierusalem) knowe all the Iewes,
26:5	which knewe me from the begynnynge, yf they wolde testyfye. For after the moost straytest secte of our religion, I lyued a pharisey.
26:6	And now I stande and am iudged for the hope of the promes made of God vnto oure father:
26:7	vnto which promes our twelue tribes (instantly seruyng God daye & night) hope to come. For which hopes sake, kynge Agrippa, I am accused of the Iewes.
26:8	Why shulde it be thought a thynge incredyble vnto you, that God shulde rayse agayne the deed?
26:9	I also verely thought in my selfe, that I ought to do many contrary thynges, cleane agaynst the name of Iesus of Nazareth:
26:10	which thynge I also dyd in Ierusalem. And many of the saynctes dyd I shut vp in preson, and had receaued auctorite of the hye Prestes. And when they were put to deeth. I gaue the sentence.
26:11	And I punisshed them ofte in euery synagoge, and compelled them to blaspheme: and was yet more mad vpon them, and persecuted them, euen vnto straunge cyties.
26:12	About which thinges as I went to Damasco wyth auctorite and licence of the hye Prestes,
26:13	euen at myddaye. (O kyng) I sawe in the waye a lyght from heauen aboue the bryghtnes of the sonne shyne rounde about me, and them whych iorneyed wyth me.
26:14	When we were all fallen to the erthe, I heard a voyce speakynge vnto me, & saying in the Hebrue tonge: Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? It is harde for the to kicke agaynst the prickes.
26:15	And I sayd: Who art thou Lorde? And he sayde: I am Iesus whom thou persecutest,
26:16	but ryse and stand vp on thy fete. For I haue appeared vnto the for thys purpose, to make the a minister and a witnes both of those thynges whych thou hast sene, & of those thynges in the which I will appeare vnto the,
26:17	delyueringe the from the people, and from the gentyls, vnto whom now I sende the,
26:18	to open their eyes, that they maye be turned from darckness to light, and from the power of Satan vnto God, that they maye receaue forgeuenes of synnes, and inheritaunce amonge them whych are sanctified by fayth that is toward me.
26:19	Wherfore (O kynge Agryppa) I was not disobedient vnto the heauenly visyon:
26:20	but shewed fyrst vnto them of Damasco, and at Ierusalem, and thorow out all the coastes of Iewry, and then to the gentyls, that they shuld repent, and turne to God, and do soch workes as become them that repent.
26:21	For thys cause the Iewes caught me in the temple, and went about to kyll me.
26:22	Seyng therfore that I haue obtained helpe of God: I contynew vnto thys daye, wytnessinge bothe to small & to great, saying none other thynges, then those whych the prophetes and Moses dyd saye shuld come:
26:23	that Christ shulde soffer, and that he shulde be the fyrst that shuld ryse from deth, and shuld shew lyght vnto the people, and to the gentyls.
26:24	As he thus spake for hym selfe: Festus sayde with a loude voyce: Paul, thou art besyde thy selfe. Moch learnynge doth make the madd.
26:25	And Paul sayde: I am not mad (most deare Festus) but speake forth the wordes of trueth and sobernes.
26:26	For the kynge knoweth of these thynges, before whom also I speake frely: nether thynke I that eny of these thynges are hydden from him. For thys thynge was not done in a corner.
26:27	Kynge Agrippa beleuest thou the Prophetes? I wote well that thou beleuest.
26:28	Agrippa sayde vnto Paul: Sumwhat thou bryngest me in mynde for to become Chrysten.
26:29	And Paul sayde? I wolde to God that not onely thou: but also all that heare me to daye were, not somwhat onely, but all together, soch as I am, except these bondes.
26:30	And when he had thus spoken, the kynge rose vp, and the debite, and Bernice, and they that sate with them,
26:31	And when they were gone aparte, they talked betwene them selues, sayinge. Thys man doeth nothyng worthy of deeth, or of bondes.
26:32	Then sayde Agrippa vnto Festus. Thys man myght haue bene let loose, yf he had not appealed vnto Cesar.


26:1	And Agrippa seide to Poul, It is suffrid to thee, to speke for thi silf. Thanne Poul helde forth the hoond, and bigan to yelde resoun.
26:2	Of alle thingis, in whiche Y am accusid of the Jewis, thou king Agrippa, Y gesse me blessid at thee, whanne Y schal defende me this dai;
26:3	moost for thou knowist alle thingis that ben among Jewis, customes and questiouns. For which thing, Y biseche, here me pacientli.
26:4	For alle Jewis that bifor knewen me fro the bigynnyng, knewen my lijf fro yongthe; that fro the bigynnyng was in my folc in Jerusalem,
26:5	if thei wolen bere witnessing, that bi the moost certeyn sect of oure religioun, Y lyuede a Farisee.
26:6	And now for the hope of repromyssioun, that is maad to oure fadris of God, Y stonde suget in dom;
26:7	in which hope oure twelue lynagis seruynge niyt and dai hopen to come; of which hope, sir king, Y am accusid of the Jewis.
26:8	What vnbileueful thing is demed at you, if God reisith deed men?
26:9	And sotheli Y gesside, that Y ouyte do many contrarie thingis ayens the name of Jhesu Nazarene.
26:10	Which thing also Y dide in Jerusalem, and Y encloside manye of the seyntis in prisoun, whanne Y hadde take powere of the princis of preestis. And whanne thei weren slayn, Y brouyte the sentence.
26:11	And bi alle synagogis ofte Y punyschide hem, and constreynede to blasfeme; and more Y wex wood ayens hem, and pursuede in to alien citees.
26:12	In whiche, the while Y wente to Damask, with power and suffring of princis of preestis,
26:13	at myddai, in the weie Y say, sir king, that fro heuene liyt schynede aboute me, passing the schynyng of the sunne, and aboute hem that weren togidir with me.
26:14	And whanne we alle hadden falle doun in to the erthe, Y herde a vois seiynge to me in Ebrew tunge, Saul, Saul, what pursuest thou me? it is hard to thee, to kicke ayens the pricke.
26:15	And Y seide, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord seide, Y am Jhesus, whom thou pursuest.
26:16	But rise vp, and stoond on thi feet. For whi to this thing Y apperide to thee, that Y ordeyne thee mynystre and witnesse of tho thingis that thou hast seyn, and of tho in whiche Y schal schewe to thee.
26:17	And Y schal delyuere thee fro puplis and folkis, to whiche now Y sende thee,
26:18	to opene the iyen of hem, that thei ben conuertid fro derknesse to liyt, and fro power of Sathnas to God, that thei take remyssioun of synnes, and part among seyntis, bi feith that is in me.
26:19	Wherfor, sir kyng Agrippa, Y was not vnbileueful to the heuenli visioun;
26:20	but Y tolde to hem that been at Damask first, and at Jerusalem, and bi al the cuntre of Judee, and to hethene men, that thei schulden do penaunce, and be conuertid to God, and do worthi werkis of penaunce.
26:21	For this cause Jewis token me, whanne Y was in the temple, to sle me.
26:22	But Y was holpun bi the helpe of God in to this dai, and stonde, witnessinge to lesse and to more. And Y seye no thing ellis than whiche thingis the prophetis and Moises spaken that schulen come,
26:23	if Crist is to suffre, if he is the firste of the ayenrising of deed men, that schal schewe liyt to the puple and to hethene men.
26:24	Whanne he spak these thingis, and yeldide resoun, Festus seide with greet vois, Poul, thou maddist; many lettris turnen thee to woodnesse.
26:25	And Poul seide, Y madde not, thou beste Festus, but Y speke out the wordis of treuthe and of sobernesse.
26:26	For also the king, to whom Y speke stidfastli, woot of these thingis; for Y deme, that no thing of these is hid fro hym; for nether in a cornere was ouyt of these thingis don.
26:27	Bileuest thou, king Agrippa, `to prophetis? Y woot that thou bileuest.
26:28	And Agrippa seide to Poul, In litil thing thou counseilist me to be maad a cristen man.
26:29	And Poul seide, Y desire anentis God, bothe in litil and in greet, not oneli thee, but alle these that heren to dai, to be maad sich as Y am, outakun these boondis.
26:30	And the kyng roos vp, and the president, and Beronyce, and thei that saten niy to hem.
26:31	And whanne thei wenten awei, thei spaken togider, and seiden, That this man hath not don ony thing worthi deth, nether boondis.
26:32	And Agrippa seide to Festus, This man miyt be delyuerid, if he hadde not appelid to the emperour.

26:2	I thinke my selfe happye (O kynge Agrippa) because I shal answere this daye before the, of all the thinges wherof I am accused of the Iewes:
26:3	specially for so moch as thou art experte in all customes and questions, which are amonge the Iewes. Wherfore I beseche the, to heare me paciently.
26:4	My lyuynge truly from youth vp (how it was led from the begynnynge amonge this people at Ierusale) knowe all the Iewes
26:5	which knewe me afore at the first, yf they wolde testifye, for after the most strayte secte of oure Iewysh lawe, I lyued a Pharise.
26:6	And now stonde I, and am iudged because of the hope of the promes, that was made of God vnto oure fathers,
26:7	vnto the which (promes) oure twolue trybes hope to come, seruynge God instatly daye and nighte. For the which hopes sake (O kynge Agrippa) I am accused of the Iewes.
26:8	Wherfore is this iudged amonge you not to be beleued, that God rayseth vp the deed?
26:9	I also verely thoughte by my selfe, that I oughte to do many cotrary thinges cleane agaynst the name off Iesus off Nazareth,
26:10	which I dyd at Ierusalem, whan I shut vp many sayntes in preson, whervpon I receaued auctorite of ye hye prestes. And wha they shulde be put to death, I broughte the sentence.
26:11	And thorow all the synagoges I punyshed them oft, and compelled the to blaspheme, and was exceadinge mad vpon them, and persecuted them euen vnto straunge cities.
26:12	Aboute which thinges as I wente towarde Damascon with auctorite and lycence of the hye prestes,
26:13	euen at myddaye (O kynge) I sawe in the waye, that a lighte from heaue (clearer then the brightnesse of the Sonne) shyned rounde aboute me, and them that iourneyed with me.
26:14	But whan we were all fallen downe to the earth, I herde a voyce speakynge vnto me, and sayege in Hebrue: Saul Saul, why persecutest thou me? It shalbe harde for the to kycke agaynst the prycke.
26:15	But I sayde: LORDE, who art thou? He sayde: I am Iesus, whom thou persecutest.
26:16	But ryse vp, and stonde vpon thy fete, for therfore haue I appeared vnto the, that I mighte ordeyne the to be a mynister and witnesse of it that thou hast sene, and that I wyll yet cause to appeare vnto the.
26:17	And I wil delyuer the from the people, and from the Heythen, amonge who I wil now sende the,
26:18	to ope their eyes, that they maye turne from the darknesse vnto the lighte, and from the power of ye deuell vnto God, that they maye receaue forgeuenesse of synnes, and the enheritaunce with them that are sanctified by faith in me.
26:19	Wherfore (O kynge Agrippa) I was not faithlesse vnto ye heauely vision,
26:20	but shewed it first vnto them at Damascon, and at Ierusale, and in all the coastes of Iewry, and to the Heythen, that they shulde do pennaunce, and turne vnto God, and to do the righte workes of pennaunce.
26:21	For this cause the Iewes toke me in the temple, and wente aboute to kyll me.
26:22	But thorow the helpe of God lent vnto me, I stonde vnto this daye, and testifye both vnto small and greate, and saye no other thinge, the that ye prophetes haue sayde (that it shulde come to passe) and Moses,
26:23	that Christ shulde suffre, and be the first of the resurreccion from the deed, and shew light vnto the people, and to the Heythen.
26:24	Whan he thus answered for himselfe, Festus sayde with a loude voyce: Paul, thou art besydes thy selfe, moch lernynge maketh ye madd.
26:25	But Paul sayde: I am not madd (most deare Festus) but speake the wordes of trueth and sobernesse:
26:26	for ye kynge knoweth this well, vnto whom I speake frely. For I thinke that none off these thinges is hyd from him: for this was not done in a corner.
26:27	Beleuest thou the prophetes, O kynge Agrippa? I knowe that thou beleuest.
26:28	Agrippa sayde vnto Paul: Thou persuadest me in a parte to become a Christen.
26:29	Paul sayde: I wolde to God, that (not onely in a parte but alltogether,) I mighte persuade not the onely, but all them that heare me this daye, to be soch I am, these bondes excepte.
26:30	And whan he had spoken this, the kynge rose vp, and the Debyte, and Bernice, and they that sat with them,
26:31	and wente asyde, and talked together, and sayde: This man hath done nothinge that is worthy of death or of bondes.
26:32	But Agrippa sayde vnto Festus: This man mighte haue bene lowsed, yf he had not appealed vnto the Emperoure.
