14:1	Laboure for loue, and couete spyrytuall gyftes: and moste chiefely for to prophecye.
14:2	For he that speaketh wyth tounges speaketh not vnto men, but vnto God, for no man heareth hym, howe be it in the spyryte he speaketh mysteryes.
14:3	But he that prophecyeth, speaketh vnto men, to edifiynge, to exhortation and to comforte.
14:4	He that speaketh wyth tounges profyteth hym selfe: he that prophecieth edifyeth the congregation.
14:5	I woulde that ye all spake with tounges: but rather that ye prophecyed. For greater is he that prophecieth, then he that speaketh with tounges, excepte he expounde it also, that the congregacion maye haue edifiyng.
14:6	Nowe brethren yf I come vnto you speakinge with tounges, what shall I profite you, excepte I speake vnto you, other by reuelation or knowledge, or propheciynge, or doctryne.
14:7	Moreouer when thynges wythout lyfe, geue sounde: whether it be a pipe or an harpe excepte they make a distinction in the soundes, howe shal it be knowen what is piped or harped?
14:8	And also yf the trompe geue an vncertaine voice, who shall prepare him selfe to fyght?
14:9	Euen so likewyse when ye speake with tounges, excepte ye speake wordes that haue signifycacion, howe shall it be vnderstande what is spoken? For ye shall but speake in the ayer.
14:10	Manye kindes of voices are in the worlde and none of them are wythout significacion.
14:11	If I knowe not what the voice meaneth, I shalbe vnto hym that speaketh, an alient: and he that speaketh shall be alient vnto me
14:12	Euen so ye (for as much as ye couete spiritual gyftes) seke that ye maye haue plentye vnto the edifiyng of the congregation.
14:13	Wherfore let him that speaketh with tounges praye, that he maye interprete also.
14:14	If I praye wyth tounges, my spyryte prayeth: but my mynde is wythout fruite.
14:15	What is it then? I wyl praye with the spirite, and wyll praye with mynde also. I wil singe with the spyrite, and wil singe with the minde also.
14:16	For els when thou blessest with the spirite howe shal he that occupieth the roume of the vnlearned saye amen at thy geuynge of thankes, saynge: he vnderstandeth not what thou sayeste?
14:17	Thou verelye geueste thankes wel, but the other is not edifyed.
14:18	I thanke my God, I speake with tounges more then ye all.
14:19	Yet had I leuer in the congregation, to speake fyue wordes with my mynd to the information of other, rather then .x. thousand wordes with the tounge.
14:20	Brethren be not chyldren in wyt howebeit as concerninge maliciousnes be children: but in wyt be perfect.
14:21	In the lawe it is written, wyth other tounges, and with other lippes wyl I speake vnto thys people, and yet for al that wil they not heare me, sayeth the Lorde.
14:22	Wherfore, tounges are for a signe, not to them that beleue, but to them that beleue not. Contrarywyse propheciyng serueth not, for them that beleue not: but for them whiche beleue.
14:23	Yf therfore when all the congregation is come together, and all speake wyth tounges, there come in they that are vnlearned, or they whyche beleue not: wyll they not saye that ye are out of your wyttes?
14:24	But and yf all prophecye, and there come in one that beleueth not, or one vnlearned, he is rebuked of al men, and is iudged of euerye man:
14:25	and so are the secretes of hys herte opened, and so falleth he doune on hys face, and worshyppeth God, & sayeth that God is wyth you in dede.
14:26	Howe is it then brethren? When ye come together, euerye man hath his songe, hath his doctryne, hath his tounge, hath hys reuelation, hath hys interpretation. Let al thynges be done vnto edifiynge.
14:27	If anye man speake wyth tounges, let it be two at ones, or at the moste thre at ones, and that by course: and let another interprete it.
14:28	But yf there be no interpreter, let him kepe silence in the congregation, and let him speake to him selfe and to God.
14:29	Let the Prophetes speake two at ones, or thre at ones, and let other iudge.
14:30	And yf anye reuelation be made to another that sitteth by, let the fyrste holde hys peace.
14:31	For ye maye all prophecye, one by one that all maye learne, and all maye haue comforte.
14:32	For the spirites of the Prophetes are in the power of the Prophetes.
14:33	For God is not causer of strife, but of peace, as he is in all other congregations of the sainctes.
14:34	Let your wyues kepe silence in the congregations. For it is not permitted vnto them to speake: but let them be vnder obedience, as sayeth the lawe.
14:35	If they wil learne anye thynge, let them axe theyr husbandes at home. For it is shame for women to speake in the congregation.
14:36	Spronge the worde of God from you? Eyther came it vnto you onelye.
14:37	Yf anye man thinke hym selfe a Prophet, either spyrytuall. let him vnderstand, what thinges I write vnto you. For they are the commaundementes of the Lorde.
14:38	But and yf anye man be ignoraunte, let him be ignoraunt.
14:39	Wherfore brethren couete to prophecye, and forbyd not to speake wyth tounges.
14:40	And let al thynges be done honestlye and iu ordre.

14:2	For he that speaketh with the tonge, speaketh not vnto men, but vnto God. For no man heareth hym: Houbeit in the sprete he speaketh mysteries.
14:3	But he that prophesieth, speaketh vnto men for their edifyinge, for their exhortacion and for their comforte.
14:4	He that speaketh with the tonge, proffiteth him selfe: he that prophesieth, edifyeth the congregacion
14:5	I wolde that ye all spake with tonges: but rather that ye prophesied. For greater is he that prophesyeth, then he that speaketh with tonges, except he expounde it: that the congregacion maye haue edifying.
14:6	Now brethren, yf I come vnto you speakynge with tonges: what shall I profet you, excepte I speake to you, other by reuelacyon or by knowledge, or by prophesyinge, or by doctryne?
14:7	Moreouer, when thinges without lyfe geue sounde (whether it be a pype or an harpe) except they make a destruccyon in the soundes, how shall it be knowen what is pyped or harped?
14:8	For yf the trompe geue an vncertayne voyce, who shall prepare him selfe to the warre?
14:9	Euen so lykewyse when ye speake with tonges, excepte ye speake wordes that haue significacyon, howe shall it be vnderstande what is spoken? For ye shall but speake in the ayer.
14:10	Many kyndes of voyces are in the world, and none of them are without significacion.
14:11	If I knowe not what the voyce meaneth, I shalbe vnto him that speaketh, an alient: and he that speaketh, shalbe an alient vnto me.
14:12	Euen so ye (for as moche as ye couet spretuall gyftes) seke, that ye maye excell, vnto the edifyinge of the congregacyon.
14:13	Wherfore, let him that speaketh with tonge, praye, that he maye interpret also.
14:14	For If I praye with tonge, my sprete prayeth, but my vnderstonding doth no good.
14:15	What is it then? I will praye with the sprete, and will praye with the vnderstonding. I will synge with the sprete, and will synge with the vnderstonding.
14:16	For ells, when thou blessest with the sprete, how shall he that occupieth the rowme of the vnlearned, saye Amen, at thy geuynge of thankes, seynge he vnderstandeth not. what thou sayest?
14:17	Thou verely geuest thankes well, but the other is not edified.
14:18	I thanke my God that I speake with tonges more then ye all.
14:19	Yet had I leuer in the congregacion, to speake fyue wordes with my vnderstonding to the informacion of other rather then ten thousand wordes with the tonge.
14:20	Brethren, be not ye chyldren in wytte. Howbeit, as concernyng maliciousnes, be children: but in witte be perfect.
14:21	In the lawe it is written with sondrie tonges, and with sondrye lyppes will I speake vnto this people, and yet for all that, will they not heare me, sayth the Lorde.
14:22	Wherfore tonges are for a sygne, not to them that beleue: but to them that beleue not. Contrary wyse, prophesyinge serueth not for them that beleue not: but for them which beleue.
14:23	If therfore, when all the congregacyon is come together, and all speake with tonges, ther come in they that are vnlearned, or they which beleue not: will they not saye, that ye are out of youre wittes?
14:24	But and yf all prophesye, and ther come in one that beleueth not, or one vnlearned, he is rebuked of all men, & is iudged of euery man,
14:25	& so are the secretes of his hert opened, and so falleth he downe on his face, and worshyppeth God, & sayth, that God is in you of a trueth.
14:26	How is it then brethren? As oft as ye come together, euery one of you hath a songe, hath a doctrine, hath a tonge, hath a reuelacyon, hath an interpretacyon. Let all thinges be done vnto edifyinge:
14:27	If eny man speake with tonge, let it be by two or at the most by thre, and that by course, and let another interprete it.
14:28	But yf ther be no interpreter, let him kepe sylence in the congregacyon, and let him speake to him selfe and to God.
14:29	Let the prophetes speake two, or thre, & let the other iudge.
14:30	If eny reuelacyon be made to another that sytteth by, let the fyrst holde his peace.
14:31	For ye maye al prophesy one by one, that all maye learne, and that all maye haue comforte.
14:32	And the spretes of the prophetes are in the power of the Prophetes.
14:33	For God is not causer of stryfe: but of peace, as in all congregacions of the saynctes.
14:34	Let youre wemen kepe sylence in the congregacions. For it is not permitted vnto them to speake: but to be vnder obedience, as sayth the lawe.
14:35	If they wyll learne eny thynge, let them aske their husbandes at home. For it is a shame for wemen, to speake in the congregacion.

14:2	For hee that speaketh a strange tongue, speaketh not vnto men, but vnto God: for no man heareth him: howbeit in the spirit he speaketh secret things.
14:3	But he that prophecieth, speaketh vnto me to edifying, and to exhortation, and to comfort.
14:4	He that speaketh strange language, edifieth himselfe: but hee that prophecieth, edifieth the Church.
14:5	I would that ye all spake strange languages, but rather that ye prophecied: for greater is hee that prophecieth, then hee that speaketh diuers tongues, except hee expound it, that the Church may receiue edification.
14:6	And nowe, brethren, if I come vnto you speaking diuers tongues, what shall I profite you, except I speake to you, either by reuelation, or by knowledge, or by prophecying, or by doctrine?
14:7	Moreouer things without life which giue a sounde, whether it be a pipe or an harpe, except they make a distinction in the soundes, how shall it be knowen what is piped or harped?
14:8	And also if the trumpet giue an vncertaine sound, who shall prepare himselfe to battell?
14:9	So likewise you, by the tongue, except yee vtter wordes that haue signification, howe shall it be vnderstand what is spoken? for ye shall speake in the ayre.
14:10	There are so many kindes of voyces (as it commeth to passe) in the world, and none of them is dumme.
14:11	Except I know then the power of ye voyce, I shall be vnto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh, shalbe a barbarian vnto me.
14:12	Euen so, forasmuch as ye couet spirituall giftes, seeke that ye may excell vnto the edifying of the Church.
14:13	Wherefore, let him that speaketh a strange tongue, pray, that he may interprete.
14:14	For if I pray in a strange togue, my spirit prayeth: but mine vnderstading is without fruite.
14:15	What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, but I wil pray with the vnderstanding also: I wil sing with the spirite, but I will sing with the vnderstanding also.
14:16	Else, when thou blessest with the spirit, howe shall hee that occupieth the roome of the vnlearned, say Amen, at thy giuing of thankes, seeing he knoweth not what thou sayest?
14:17	For thou verely giuest thankes well, but the other is not edified.
14:18	I thanke my God, I speake languages more then ye all.
14:19	Yet had I rather in the Church to speake fiue wordes with mine vnderstanding, that I might also instruct others, then ten thousande wordes in a strange tongue.
14:20	Brethren, be not children in vnderstanding, but as concerning maliciousnes be children, but in vnderstanding be of a ripe age.
14:21	In the Lawe it is written, By men of other tongues, and by other languages will I speake vnto this people: yet so shall they not heare me, sayth the Lord.
14:22	Wherefore strange tongues are for a signe, not to them that beleeue, but to them that beleeue not: but prophecying serueth not for them that beleeue not, but for them which beleeue.
14:23	If therefore when the whole Church is come together in one, and all speake strange tongues, there come in they that are vnlearned, or they which beleeue not, will they not say, that ye are out of your wittes?
14:24	But if all prophecie, and there come in one that beleeueth not, or one vnlearned, hee is rebuked of all men, and is iudged of all,
14:25	And so are the secrets of his heart made manifest, and so he will fall downe on his face and worship God, and say plainely that God is in you in deede.
14:26	What is to be done then, brethren? when ye come together, according as euery one of you hath a Psalme, or hath doctrine, or hath a tongue, or hath reuelation, or hath interpretation, let all things be done vnto edifying.
14:27	If any man speake a strange tongue, let it be by two, or at the most, by three, and that by course, and let one interprete.
14:28	But if there be no interpreter, let him keepe silence in the Church, which speaketh languages, and let him speake to himselfe, and to God.
14:29	Let the Prophets speake two, or three, and let the other iudge.
14:30	And if any thing be reueiled to another that sitteth by, let the first holde his peace.
14:31	For ye may all prophecie one by one, that all may learne, and all may haue comfort.
14:32	And the spirits of the Prophets are subiect to the Prophets.
14:33	For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as we see in all ye Churches of the Saints.
14:34	Let your women keepe silence in the Churches: for it is not permitted vnto them to speake: but they ought to be subiect, as also the Lawe sayth.
14:35	And if they will learne any thing, let them aske their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speake in the Church.
14:36	Came the worde of God out from you? either came it vnto you onely?
14:37	If any man thinke him selfe to be a Prophet, or spirituall, let him acknowledge, that the things, that I write vnto you, are the commandements of the Lord.
14:38	And if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
14:39	Wherefore, brethren, couet to prophecie, and forbid not to speake languages.
14:40	Let all things be done honestly, and by order.
