Galatians - Chapter: 4


4:1	Now I say, that the heire, as long as hee is a child, differeth nothing from a seruant, though hee bee Lord of all,
4:2	But is vnder tutors and gouernours vntill the time appointed of the father.
4:3	Euen so we, when wee were children, were in bondage vnder the Elements of the world:
4:4	But when the fulnes of the time was come, God sent foorth his Sonne made of a woman, made vnder the Law,
4:5	To redeeme them that were vnder the Law, that we might receiue the adoption of sonnes.
4:6	And because yee are sonnes, God hath sent foorth the spirit of his Sonne into your hearts, crying Abba, Father.
4:7	Wherefore thou art no more a seruant, but a sonne; and if a sonne, then an heire of God through Christ.
4:8	Howbeit, then when ye knew not God, yee did seruice vnto them which by nature are no Gods.
4:9	But now after that yee haue knowen God, or rather are knowen of God, how turne ye againe to the weak and beggerly Elements, whereunto ye desire againe to be in bondage?
4:10	Yee obserue dayes, and moneths, and times, and yeeres.
4:11	I am afraide of you, lest I haue bestowed vpon you labour in vaine.
4:12	Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are, ye haue not iniured me at all.
4:13	Ye know how through infirmitie of the flesh, I preached the Gospel vnto you at the first.
4:14	And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor reiected, but receiued mee as an Angel of God, euen as Christ Iesus.
4:15	Where is then the blessednes you spake of? for I beare you record, that if it had bin possible, ye would haue plucked out your own eyes, and haue giuen them to me.
4:16	Am I therefore become your enemie, because I tell you the trueth?
4:17	They zelously affect you, but not well: yea, they would exclude you, that you might affect them.
4:18	But it is good to bee zealously affected alwayes in a good thing, and not onely when I am present with you.
4:19	My litle children, of whom I trauaile in birth againe, vntill Christ bee formed in you:
4:20	I desire to bee present with you now, and to change my voyce, for I stand in doubt of you.
4:21	Tell me, ye that desire to be vnder the Law, doe ye not heare the Law?
4:22	For it is written, that Abraham had two sonnes, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
4:23	But he who was of the bondwoman, was borne after the flesh: but hee of the freewoman, was by promise.
4:24	Which things are an Allegorie; for these are the two Couenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
4:25	For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Ierusalem, which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
4:26	But Ierusalem which is aboue is free, which is the mother of vs all.
4:27	For it is written, Reioyce thou barren that bearest not, breake foorth and cry thou that traueilest not; for the desolate hath many moe children then she which hath an husband.
4:28	Now wee, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
4:29	But as then hee that was borne after the flesh, persecuted him that was borne after the Spirit, euen so it is now.
4:30	Neuerthelesse, what saith the Scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her sonne: for the son of the bondwoman shall not bee heire with the son of the freewoman.
4:31	So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.


4:1	But I saye: As longe as the heyre is a childe, there is no difference betwene him and a seruaunt, though he be lorde of all ye goodes:
4:2	but he is vnder tuters and gouerners, vntyll the tyme appoynted of the father.
4:3	Euen so we also, wha we were children, were in bondage vnder the outwarde tradicions.
4:4	But whan the tyme was fulfylled, God sent his sonne, borne of a woma, and put vnder the lawe,
4:5	to redeme them which were vnder the lawe, that we mighte receaue ye childshippe.
4:6	For so moch the as ye are children, God hath sent the sprete of his sonne in to oure hertes, which cryeth: Abba, deare father.
4:7	Wherfore now, thou art not a seruaunt, but a sonne. Yf thou be a sonne, then art thou the heyre of God thorow Christ.
4:8	Notwithstondinge whan ye knewe not God, ye dyd seruyce vnto them, which by nature are no Goddes.
4:9	But now seynge ye knowe God (yee rather are knowne off God) how is it that ye turne you backe agayne vnto the weake and beggerly tradicions, wher vnto ye desyre agayne afresh to be in bondage?
4:10	Ye obserue dayes and monethes, and tymes and yeares.
4:11	I am in feare of you, lest I haue bestowed laboure on you in vayne.
4:12	Brethre I beseke you, be ye as I am, for I am as ye are. Ye haue not hurte me at all.
4:13	For ye knowe how that in weaknes after ye flesh I preached ye Gospell vnto you at the first:
4:14	and my tentacion which I suffred after the flesh, ye despysed not, nether abhorred, but receaued me as an angell of God, yee euen as Christ Iesus.
4:15	How happy were ye then? For I beare you recorde, that yf it had bene possible, ye had plucked out youre awne eyes, and geue them vnto me.
4:16	Am I therfore become yor enemy, because I tell you ye trueth?
4:17	They are gelous ouer you amysse. Yee they wolde make you to fall backe, that ye might be feruet to the warde.
4:18	It is good to be feruent, so yt it be allwaye in a good thinge, and not onely whan I am present wt you.
4:19	My litle children (of whom I trauayle in byrth agayne, vntyll Christ be fashioned in you)
4:20	I wolde I were wt you now, and coulde chauge my voyce, for I stode i doute of you.
4:21	Tell me ye that wylbe vnder the lawe, haue ye not herde the lawe?
4:22	For it is wrytten, that Abraham had two sonnes the one by a bonde mayde, the other by a fre woman.
4:23	As for him that was of the bode mayde, he was borne after ye flesh: but he which was of the fre woman, was borne by promes.
4:24	These wordes betoken somwhat. For these wemen are the two Testamentes: The one from the mount Sina, that gendreth vnto bondage, which is Agar.
4:25	For Agar is called in Arabia ye mount Sina, and reacheth vnto Ierusalem which now is, and is in bondage with hir children.
4:26	But Ierusalem that is aboue, is the fre woman, which is the mother of vs all.
4:27	For it is wrytte: Reioyse thou baren, that bearest no childre: breake forth and crye thou yt trauaylest not, for the desolate hath many mo childre, then she which hath an hussbande.
4:28	As for vs (brethren) we are the children of Isaac acordinge to the promes.
4:29	But like as at that tyme, he that was borne after the flesh, persecuted him yt was borne after the sprete, euen so is it now also.
4:30	But what sayeth the scripture? Put awaye the bonde mayden and hir sonne: for the sonne of ye bondmayde shal not be heyre with ye sonne of the fre woman.
4:31	So now brethren, we are not children of the bonde mayde, but of the fre woman.


4:1	But Y seie, as long tyme as the eir is a litil child, he dyuersith no thing fro a seruaunt, whanne he is lord of alle thingis;
4:2	but he is vndur keperis and tutoris, in to the tyme determyned of the fadir.
4:3	So we, whanne we weren litle children, we serueden vndur the elementis of the world.
4:4	But aftir that the fulfilling of tyme cam, God sente his sone,
4:5	maad of a womman, maad vndur the lawe, that he schulde ayenbie hem that weren vndur the lawe, that we schulden vnderfonge the adopcioun of sones.
4:6	And for ye ben Goddis sones, God sente his spirit in to youre hertis, criynge, Abba, fadir.
4:7	And so ther is not now a seruaunt, but a sone; and if he is a sone, he is an eir bi God.
4:8	But thanne ye vnknowynge God, serueden to hem that in kynde weren not goddis.
4:9	But now whanne ye han knowe God, and ben knowun of God, hou ben ye turned eftsoone to the febil and nedi elementis, to the whiche ye wolen eft serue?
4:10	Ye taken kepe to daies, and monethis, and tymes, and yeris.
4:11	But Y drede you, lest without cause Y haue trauelid among you.
4:12	Be ye as Y, for Y am as ye. Britheren, Y biseche you, ye han hurt me no thing.
4:13	But ye knowen, that bi infirmyte of fleisch Y haue prechid to you now bifore;
4:14	and ye dispiseden not, nether forsoken youre temptacioun in my fleisch, but ye resseyueden me as an aungel of God, as `Crist Jhesu.
4:15	Where thanne is youre blessyng? For Y bere you witnesse, that if it myyte haue be don. ye wolden haue put out youre iyen, and haue yyuen hem to me.
4:16	Am Y thanne maad an enemye to you, seiynge to you the sothe?
4:17	Thei louen not you wel, but thei wolen exclude you, that ye suen hem.
4:18	But sue ye the good euermore in good, and not oneli whanne Y am present with you.
4:19	My smale children, whiche Y bere eftsoones, til that Crist be fourmed in you,
4:20	and Y wolde now be at you, and chaunge my vois, for Y am confoundid among you.
4:21	Seie to me, ye that wolen be vndir the lawe, `han ye not red the lawe?
4:22	For it is writun, that Abraham hadde two sones, oon of a seruaunt, and oon of a fre womman.
4:23	But he that was of the seruaunt, was borun after the flesh; but he that was of the fre womman, by a biheeste.
4:24	The whiche thingis ben seid bi an othir vndirstonding. For these ben two testamentis; oon in the hille of Synai, gendringe in to seruage, which is Agar.
4:25	For Syna is an hille that is in Arabie, which hille is ioyned to it that is now Jerusalem, and seruith with hir children.
4:26	But that Jerusalem that is aboue, is fre, whiche is oure modir.
4:27	For it is writun, Be glad, thou bareyn, that berist not; breke out and crye, that bringist forth no children; for many sones ben of hir that is left of hir hosebonde, more than of hir that hath an hosebonde.
4:28	For, britheren, we ben sones of biheeste aftir Isaac;
4:29	but now as this that was borun after the fleisch pursuede him that was aftir the spirit, so now.
4:30	But what seith the scripture? Caste out the seruaunt and hir sone, for the sone of the seruaunt schal not be eir with the sone of the fre wijf.
4:31	And so, britheren, we ben not sones of the seruaunt, but of the fre wijf, bi which fredom Crist hath maad vs fre.
