| 4:1 | I therefore the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that yee walke worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, |
| 4:2 | With all lowlinesse and meekenesse, with long suffering, forbearing one another in loue. |
| 4:3 | Endeuouring to keepe the vnitie of the Spirit in the bond of peace. |
| 4:4 | There is one body, and one spirit, euen as yee are called in one hope of your calling. |
| 4:5 | One Lord, one Faith, one Baptisme, |
| 4:6 | One God and Father of all, who is aboue all, & through all, & in you all. |
| 4:7 | But vnto euery one of vs is giuen grace, according to the measure of the gift of Christ. |
| 4:8 | Wherefore he saith: When he ascended vp on high, he led captiuitie captiue, and gaue gifts vnto men. |
| 4:9 | (Now that he ascended, what is it but that hee also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? |
| 4:10 | He that descended, is the same also that ascended vp far aboue all heauens, that he might fill all things.) |
| 4:11 | And he gaue some, Apostles: and some, Prophets: and some, Euangelists: and some, Pastors, and teachers: |
| 4:12 | For the perfecting of the Saints, for the worke of the ministerie, for the edifying of the body of Christ: |
| 4:13 | Till we all come in the vnitie of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Sonne of God, vnto a perfect man, vnto the measure of the stature of the fulnesse of Christ: |
| 4:14 | That we hencefoorth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and caried about with euery winde of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftinesse, whereby they lye in waite to deceiue: |
| 4:15 | But speaking the trueth in loue, may grow vp into him in all things which is the head, euen Christ: |
| 4:16 | From whom the whole body fitly ioyned together, and compacted by that which euery ioynt supplyeth, according to the effectuall working in the measure of euery part, maketh increase of the body, vnto the edifying of it selfe in loue. |
| 4:17 | This I say therefore and testifie in the Lord, that yee henceforth walke not as other Gentiles walke in the vanitie of their minde, |
| 4:18 | Hauing the vnderstanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindnesse of their heart: |
| 4:19 | Who being past feeling, haue giuen themselues ouer vnto lasciuiousnesse, to worke all vncleannesse with greedinesse. |
| 4:20 | But ye haue not so learned Christ: |
| 4:21 | If so be that ye haue heard him, and haue bene taught by him, as the trueth is in Iesus, |
| 4:22 | That yee put off concerning the former conuersation, the olde man, which is corrupt according to the deceitfull lusts: |
| 4:23 | And bee renewed in the spirit of your minde: |
| 4:24 | And that yee put on that new man, which after God is created in righteousnesse, and true holinesse. |
| 4:25 | Wherefore putting away lying, speake euery man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. |
| 4:26 | Be ye angry and sinne not, let not the Sunne go down vpon your wrath: |
| 4:27 | Neither giue place to the deuill. |
| 4:28 | Let him that stole, steale no more: but rather let him labour, working with his handes the thing which is good, that he may haue to giue to him that needeth. |
| 4:29 | Let no corrupt communication proceede out of your mouth, but that which is good to the vse of edifying, that it may minister grace vnto the hearers. |
| 4:30 | And grieue not the holy Sririt of God, whereby yee are sealed vnto the day of redemption. |
| 4:31 | Let all bitternes, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and euill speaking, be put away from you, with all malice, |
| 4:32 | And bee ye kinde one to another. tender hearted, forgiuing one another, euen as God for Christs sake hath forgiuen you. |
| 4:1 | I therfore which am presoner in the LORDE, exhorte you, that ye walke as it becometh yor callinge wherin ye are called, |
| 4:2 | with all humblenes off mynde and mekenes, and longe sufferinge, forbearinge one another in loue, |
| 4:3 | and be diligent to kepe the vnite of the sprete thorow the bonde of peace. |
| 4:4 | One body and one sprete, eue as ye are called in one hope of youre callynge. |
| 4:5 | One LORDE, one faith, one baptyme, |
| 4:6 | one God and father of vs all, which is aboue all, and thorow all, and in you all. |
| 4:7 | Vnto euery one of vs is geuen grace, acordinge to the measure off the gifte off Christ. |
| 4:8 | Therfore sayeth he: He is gone vp an hye, and hath led awaye captiuyte captyue, and hath geue giftes vnto men. |
| 4:9 | That he wente, vp what is it, but that he first came downe in to ye lowest partes of ye earth? |
| 4:10 | He that came downe, is euen the same which is gone vp aboue all heauens, to fulfill all. |
| 4:11 | And ye same hath set some to be Apostles, some to be prophetes, some to be Euangelistes, some to be shepherdes & teachers, |
| 4:12 | wherby the sayntes mighte be coupled together thorow comen seruyce to the edifienge of ye body of Christ, |
| 4:13 | tyll we all come vnto one maner of faith and knowlege of the sonne of God, and become a perfecte man in to the measure of the perfecte age of Christ |
| 4:14 | that we be nomore children, waueringe & caried aboute with euery wynde of doctryne thorow the wickednes of men and craftynes, wherby they laye awayte for vs to disceaue vs. |
| 4:15 | But let vs folowe the trueth in loue, and in all thinges growe in him, which is the heade, euen Christ, |
| 4:16 | in whom all the body is coupled together, and one membre hangeth by another thorow out all ye ioyntes. Wherby one mynistreth vnto another (acordinge to the operacion as euery membre hath his measure) and maketh, that ye body groweth to the edifienge of |
| 4:17 | This I saye therfore, and testifye in the LORDE, that ye walke nomore as ye other Heythen walke in the vanite of their mynde, |
| 4:18 | blynded in their vnderstondinge, beynge straungers fro the life which is in God thorow the ignoraunce that is in them, because of the blyndnes of their hert: |
| 4:19 | which beynge past repentaunce, haue geue them selues ouer vnto wantonnes, to worke all maner of vnclennes euen with gredynesse. |
| 4:20 | But ye haue not so learned Christ, |
| 4:21 | yf so be that ye haue herde of him, & are taught in him, euen as the trueth is in Iesu. |
| 4:22 | So then as concernynge the conuersacion in tyme past laye from you that olde man which marreth himselfe thorow disceauable lustes: |
| 4:23 | but be ye renued in the sprete of youre mynde, |
| 4:24 | and put on that new man, which is shapen after God, in true righteousnes and holynes. |
| 4:25 | Wherfore put awaye lyenge, and speake euery man the trueth vnto his neghboure, for as moch as we are membres one of another. |
| 4:26 | Be angrie, but synne not. Let not ye Sonne go downe vpo youre wrath: |
| 4:27 | nether geue place to the bacbyter. |
| 4:28 | He that hath stollen, let him steale nomore: but let him laboure rather, and do some good with his hondes, that he maye haue to geue vnto him that nedeth. |
| 4:29 | Let no filthy communicacion proceade out of youre mouth, but that which is good to edifye withall, wha nede is, that it be gracious to heare. |
| 4:30 | And greue not the holy sprete of God, wherwith ye are sealed vnto ye daye of redempcion. |
| 4:31 | Let all bytternes, and fearsnes, and wrath, and roaringe, & cursed speakynge be farre fro you with all maliciousnes. |
| 4:32 | But be ye curteous one to another, mercifull, and forgeue one another, eue as God hath forgeuen you in Christ. |
| 4:1 | Therfor Y boundun for the Lord biseche you, that ye walke worthili in the clepyng, |
| 4:2 | in which ye ben clepid, with al mekenesse and myldenesse, with pacience supportinge ech other in charite, |
| 4:3 | bisi to kepe vnyte of spirit in the boond of pees. |
| 4:4 | O bodi and o spirit, as ye ben clepid in oon hope of youre cleping; |
| 4:5 | o Lord, |
| 4:6 | o feith, o baptym, o God and fadir of alle, which is aboue alle men, and bi alle thingis, and in vs alle. |
| 4:7 | But to ech of vs grace is youun bi the mesure of the yyuyng of Crist; |
| 4:8 | for which thing he seith, He stiynge an hiy, ledde caitifte caitif, he yaf yiftis to men. |
| 4:9 | But what is it, that he stiede vp, no but that also he cam doun first in to the lowere partis of the erthe? |
| 4:10 | He it is that cam doun, and that stiede on alle heuenes, that he schulde fille alle thingis. |
| 4:11 | And he yaf summe apostlis, summe prophetis, othere euangelistis, othere scheepherdis and techeris, |
| 4:12 | to the ful endyng of seyntis, in to the werk of mynystrie, in to edificacioun of Cristis bodi, |
| 4:13 | til we rennen alle, in to vnyte of feith and of knowyng of Goddis sone, in to a parfit man, aftir the mesure of age of the plente of Crist; |
| 4:14 | that we be not now litle children, mouynge as wawis, and be not borun aboute with ech wynd of teching, in the weiwardnesse of men, in sutil wit, to the disseyuyng of errour. |
| 4:15 | But do we treuthe in charite, and wexe in him by alle thingis, that is Crist oure heed; |
| 4:16 | of whom alle the bodi set togidere, and boundun togidere bi ech ioynture of vnder seruyng, bi worching in to the mesure of ech membre, makith encreesyng of the bodi, in to edificacioun of it silf in charite. |
| 4:17 | Therfor Y seie and witnesse this thing in the Lord, that ye walke not now, as hethene men walken, in the vanyte of her wit; |
| 4:18 | that han vndurstondyng derkned with derknessis, and ben alienyd fro the lijf of God, bi ignoraunce that is in hem, for the blyndenesse of her herte. |
| 4:19 | Which dispeirynge bitoken hem silf to vnchastite, in to the worchyng of al vnclennesse in coueitise. |
| 4:20 | But ye han not so lerud Crist, if netheles ye herden hym, |
| 4:21 | and ben tauyt in hym, as is treuthe in Jhesu. |
| 4:22 | Do ye awey bi the elde lyuyng the elde man, that is corrupt bi the desiris of errour; |
| 4:23 | and be ye renewlid in the spirit of youre soule; |
| 4:24 | and clothe ye the newe man, which is maad aftir God in riytwisnesse and hoolynesse of treuthe. |
| 4:25 | For which thing `ye putte awei leesyng, and speke ye treuthe ech man with his neiybore, for we ben membris ech to othere. |
| 4:26 | Be ye wrooth, and nyle ye do synne; the sunne falle not doun on youre wraththe. |
| 4:27 | Nyle ye yyue stide to the deuel. |
| 4:28 | He that stal, now stele he not; but more trauele he in worchinge with hise hondis that that is good, that he haue whereof he schal yyue to nedi. |
| 4:29 | Ech yuel word go not of youre mouth; but if ony is good to the edificacioun of feith, that it yyue grace to men that heren. |
| 4:30 | And nyle ye make the Hooli Goost of God sori, in which ye ben markid in the dai of redempcioun. |
| 4:31 | Al bitternesse, and wraththe, and indignacioun, and cry, and blasfemye be takun awey fro you, with al malice; |
| 4:32 | and be ye togidere benygne, merciful, foryyuynge togidere, as also God foryaf to you in Crist. |
