| 5:1 | Finally of the tymes & seasons (brethren) it is no nede that I wryte vnto you: |
| 5:2 | for ye yourselues know perfectly, that the daye of the Lord shall come, euen as a thefe in the nyght. |
| 5:3 | For when they shall saye, peace and all thynges are safe, then shall soden destruccyon come vpon them (as sorowe commeth vpon a woman traualynge with chylde) & they shall not scape: |
| 5:4 | But ye brethren are not in darcknes, that that daye shulde come on you as a thefe. |
| 5:5 | Ye are all the chyldren of lyght, and the chyldren of the daye. We are not of the nyght nether of darknes. |
| 5:6 | Therfore let vs not slepe as do other: but let vs wacth, & be sober. |
| 5:7 | For they that slepe, slepe in the nyght: & they that be droncken, are droncken in the nyght. |
| 5:8 | But let vs whych are of the daye, be sober armed wyth the brest plate of fayth and loue, and with hope of saluacyon for an helmet. |
| 5:9 | For God hath not appoynted vs to prouoke wrath vnto oure selues, but to obtayne saluacyon by the meanes of oure Lorde Iesu Christ |
| 5:10 | whych dyed for vs: that whether we wake or slepe, we shulde lyue together wyth him. |
| 5:11 | Wherfore, comforte your selues together, & edifye euery one another, euen as ye do. |
| 5:12 | We beseche you brethren, that ye knowe them whych laboure amonge you, and haue the ouersyght of you in the Lorde, |
| 5:13 | & geue you exhortacyon, that ye haue them in hye reputacyon thorowe loue, for theyr workes sake, and be at peace with them. |
| 5:14 | We desyre you (brethren) warne them that are vnruly, comforte the feble mynded, lyft vp the weake, be pacient towarde all men. |
| 5:15 | Se that none recompence euyll for euyll vnto eny man: but euer folowe that whych is good, both amonge your selues, and to all men. |
| 5:16 | Reioyce euer. |
| 5:17 | Praye contynually. |
| 5:18 | In all thynges geue thankes. For this is the wyll of God thorowe Christ Iesu towarde you. |
| 5:19 | Quenche not the sprete. |
| 5:20 | Despyse not prophesyinges. |
| 5:21 | Examen all thynges, kepe that which is good. |
| 5:22 | Abstayne from all euell appearaunce. |
| 5:23 | The very God of peace sanctifye you thorowe out. And I praye God that youre whole sprete, and soule and body, maye be preserued: so that in nothyng ye maye be blamed in the commynge of oure Lorde Iesus Chryst. |
| 5:24 | Faythfull is he whych called you, which wyll also do it. |
| 5:25 | Brethren, praye for vs. |
| 5:26 | Grete all the brethren wyth an holy kysse. |
| 5:27 | I charge you in the Lorde, that this Epistle be red vnto all the holy brethren. |
| 5:28 | The grace of the Lorde Iesus Christ be wyth you. Amen. |

| 5:2 | For ye silf witen diligentli, that the dai of the Lord schal come, as a theef in the niyt. |
| 5:3 | For whanne thei schulen seie pees is, and sikirnesse, thanne sudeyn deth schal come on hem, as sorewe to a womman that is with child, and thei schulen not scape. |
| 5:4 | But, britheren, ye ben not in derknessis, that the ilke dai as a theef catche you. |
| 5:5 | For alle ye ben the sones of liyt, and sones of dai; we ben not of niyt, nether of derknessis. |
| 5:6 | Therfor slepe we not as othere; but wake we, and be we sobre. |
| 5:7 | For thei that slepen, slepen in the niyt, and thei that ben drunkun, ben drunkun in the niyt. |
| 5:8 | But we that ben of the dai, ben sobre, clothid in the haburioun of feith and of charite, and in the helme of hope of heelthe. |
| 5:9 | For God puttide not vs in to wraththe, but in to the purchasing of heelthe bi oure Lord Jhesu Crist, that was deed for vs; |
| 5:10 | that whether we waken, whether we slepen, we lyue togidere with him. |
| 5:11 | For which thing comforte ye togidere, and edefie ye ech other, as ye doon. |
| 5:12 | And, britheren, we preien you, that ye knowen hem that trauelen among you, and ben souereyns to you in the Lord, and techen you, |
| 5:13 | that ye han hem more aboundantli in charyte; and for the werk of hem, haue ye pees with hem. |
| 5:14 | And, britheren, we preien you, repreue ye vnpesible men. Coumforte ye men of litil herte, resseyue ye sijke men, be ye pacient to alle men. |
| 5:15 | Se ye, that no man yelde yuel for yuel to ony man; but euere more sue ye that that is good, ech to othere and to alle men. |
| 5:16 | Euere more ioye ye; |
| 5:17 | without ceessing preye ye; |
| 5:18 | in alle thingis do ye thankyngis. For this is the wille of God in Crist Jhesu, in alle you. |
| 5:19 | Nyle ye quenche the spirit; |
| 5:20 | nyle ye dispise prophecies. |
| 5:21 | But preue ye alle thingis, and holde ye that thing that is good. |
| 5:22 | Absteyne you fro al yuel spice. |
| 5:23 | And God hym silf of pees make you hooli bi alle thingis, that youre spirit be kept hool, and soule, and bodi, without pleynt, in the comyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist. |
| 5:24 | God is trewe, that clepide you, which also schal do. |
| 5:25 | Britheren, preye ye for vs. |
| 5:26 | Grete ye wel alle britheren in hooli cos. |
| 5:27 | Y coniure you bi the Lord, that this pistle be red to alle hooli britheren. |
| 5:28 | The grace of oure Lord Jhesu Crist be with you. Amen. |

| 5:8 | But let vs which are of the daye, be sober, armed wt the brestplate of faith and loue, and with ye helmet of hope to saluacion. |
