| 5:1 | Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brethren, |
| 5:2 | older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with all purity. |
| 5:3 | Honor widows who are truly widows. |
| 5:4 | But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; because, this is good and acceptable before God. |
| 5:5 | Now she who is truly a widow, and desolate, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. |
| 5:6 | But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. |
| 5:7 | And these things give in commands, that they may be blameless. |
| 5:8 | But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. |
| 5:9 | Do not let a widow under sixty years old be taken into the number, and not unless she has been the wife of one man, |
| 5:10 | well reported for good works: if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work. |
| 5:11 | But refuse the younger widows; because, when they have, begun to grow immoral against Christ, they desire to marry, |
| 5:12 | having damnation because they have cast off their first faith. |
| 5:13 | And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. |
| 5:14 | Therefore I desire that the younger women marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully. |
| 5:15 | Because, some have already turned aside after Satan. |
| 5:16 | If any believing man or woman has widows, let them relieve them, and do not let the church be burdened, that it may relieve those who are truly widows. |
| 5:17 | Let the older men who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. |
| 5:18 | Because, the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain," and, "The laborer is worthy of his wages." |
| 5:19 | Do not receive an accusation against an older man except from two or three witnesses. |
| 5:20 | Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that others also may have reverence. |
| 5:21 | I command you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing with personal favoritism. |
| 5:22 | Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor be a partaker in other people's sins; keep yourself pure. |
| 5:23 | No longer drink only water, but use a little grape juice for your stomach's sake and your frequent weaknesses. |
| 5:24 | Some men's sins are clearly evident, preceding them to judgment, but those of some men follow afterwards. |
| 5:25 | Likewise also, the good works of some are clearly manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hidden. |
| 5:1 | Rebuke not an Elder, but exhort him as a father, and the yonger men as brethren, |
| 5:2 | The elder women as mothers, the yonger as sisters, with all purenesse. |
| 5:3 | Honour widowes, which are widowes in deede. |
| 5:4 | But if any widowe haue children or nephewes, let them learne first to shewe godlinesse towarde their owne house, and to recompense their kinred: for that is an honest thing and acceptable before God. |
| 5:5 | And shee that is a widowe in deede and left alone, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and praiers night and day. |
| 5:6 | But shee that liueth in pleasure, is dead, while shee liueth. |
| 5:7 | These things therefore warne them of, that they may be blamelesse. |
| 5:8 | If there bee any that prouideth not for his owne, and namely for them of his housholde, hee denieth the faith, and is worse then an infidell. |
| 5:9 | Let not a widow be taken into the number vnder three score yeere olde, that hath beene the wife of one husband, |
| 5:10 | And well reported of for good woorkes: if shee haue nourished her children, if shee haue lodged the strangers, if shee haue washed the Saintes feete, if shee haue ministred vnto them which were in aduersitie, if shee were continually giuen vnto euery good woorke. |
| 5:11 | But refuse the yonger widowes: for when they haue begun to waxe wanton against Christ, they will marrie, |
| 5:12 | Hauing damnation, because they haue broken the first faith. |
| 5:13 | And likewise also being idle they learne to goe about from house to house: yea, they are not onely ydle, but also pratlers and busibodies, speaking things which are not comely. |
| 5:14 | I will therefore that the yonger women marie, and beare children, and gouerne the house, and giue none occasion to the aduersary to speake euill. |
| 5:15 | For certaine are alreadie turned backe after Satan. |
| 5:16 | If any faithfull man, or faithfull woman haue widowes, let them minister vnto them, and let not the Church bee charged, that there may bee sufficient for them that are widowes in deede. |
| 5:17 | The Elders that rule well, let them be had in double honour, specially they which labour in the worde and doctrine, |
| 5:18 | For the Scripture sayeth, Thou shalt not mousell the mouth of the oxe that treadeth out the corne: and, The labourer is worthie of his wages. |
| 5:19 | Against an Elder receiue none accusation, but vnder two or three witnesses. |
| 5:20 | Them that sinne, rebuke openly, that the rest also may feare. |
| 5:21 | I charge thee before God and the Lord Iesus Christ, and the elect Angels, that thou obserue these thinges without preferring one to an other, and doe nothing partially. |
| 5:22 | Lay handes suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other mens sinnes: keepe thy selfe pure. |
| 5:23 | Drinke no longer water, but vse a litle wine for thy stomakes sake, and thine often infirmities. |
| 5:24 | Some mens sinnes are open before hand, and goe before vnto iudgement: but some mens folowe after. |
| 5:25 | Likewise also the good woorkes are manifest before hande, and they that are otherwise, cannot be hid. |
| 5:1 | Rebuke not an elder: but exhorte him as a father and the yonger me as brethren |
| 5:2 | the elder wemen as mothers ye yonger as sisters with all purenes. |
| 5:3 | Honoure widdowes which are true wyddowes. |
| 5:4 | Yf eny wyddowe have chyldren or neves let them learne fyrst to rule their awne houses godly and to recompence their elders. For that is good and acceptable before God. |
| 5:5 | She that is a very wyddowe and frendlesse putteth her trust in god and continueth in supplicacion and prayer nyght and daye. |
| 5:6 | But she that liveth in pleasure is deed even yet alive. |
| 5:7 | And these thynges commaunde that they maye be without faut |
| 5:8 | Yf ther be eny that provideth not for his awne and namly for them of his housholde the same denyeth the fayth and is worsse then an infydell. |
| 5:9 | Let no wyddowe be chosen vnder threscore yere olde and soche a one as was the wyfe of one man |
| 5:10 | and well reported of in good workes: yf she have noresshed children yf she have bene liberall to straugers yf she have wesshed the saynctes fete yf she have ministred vnto them which were in adversite yf she were continually geve vnto all maner good workes. |
| 5:11 | The yonger widdowes refuse. For when they have begone to wexe wantone to the dishonoure of Christ then will they mary |
| 5:12 | havynge damnacio because they have broke their fyrst fayth. |
| 5:13 | And also they learne to goo from housse to housse ydle ye not ydle only but also tryflynge and busybodyes speakynge thynges which are not comly. |
| 5:14 | I will therfore that ye yonger weme mary and beare childre and gyde the housse and geve none occasio to ye adversary to speake evill |
| 5:15 | For many of them are all redy turned bake and are gone after Satan. |
| 5:16 | And yf eny man or woman that beleveth have widdowes let the minister vnto them and let not the congregacion be charged: that yt maye have sufficient for them that are widdowes in dede. |
| 5:17 | The elders yt rule wel are worthy of double honoure most specially they which laboure in ye worde and in teachinge. |
| 5:18 | For the scripture sayth: Thou shalt not mousell the mouth of the oxe that treadeth out the corne. And the labourer is worthy of his rewarde. |
| 5:19 | Agaynst an elder receave none accusacion: but vnder two or thre witnesses. |
