2:1	Wherfore laye asyde all maliciousnes & al gyle, & faynednesse & enuy and all backbytinge:
2:2	& as new borne babes, desyre ye that mylke (not of the body but of the soule) which is wt out disceate that ye maye growe ther by
2:3	If so be that ye haue tasted, how gracious the Lorde is,
2:4	to whom ye come, as vnto a lyuinge stone, disalowed of men, but chosen of God & precious:
2:5	& ye as lyuinge stones, are made a spretuall house an holy presthode, for to offer vp spretual sacrifyces, acceptable to God by Iesus Christ.
2:6	Wherfore it is contayned also in the scripture: beholde I put in Sion a stone to be layed in the chefe corner, electe & precious. & he that beleueth on him shall not be confounded.
2:7	Unto you therfore whych beleue he is precious: but vnto them which beleue not the stone which the buylders refused, the same is begonne to be the heed of the corner,
2:8	and a stone that men stomble at, and a rocke wherat they be offended whych stomble at the worde, and beleue not that, wheron they were set.
2:9	But ye are a chosen generacion, a royall presthod, an holy nacyon, a people whych are wonne: that ye shuld shewe the vertues of hym, that called you out of darcknes into hys meruclous lyght,
2:10	whych in tyme past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which some time had not optayned mercye, but now haue optayned mercye.
2:11	Dearly beloued, I beseche you as straungers and pylgrems, abstayne from fleshly lustes, which fyght against the soule,
2:12	& se that ye haue honest conuersacion amonge the Gentyles, that where as they backbyte you as euyll doars they maye se your good workes, and prayse God in the daye of vysytacion.
2:13	Submyt youre selues therfore vnto all maner ordinaunce of man for the lordes sake, whether it be vnto the kynge, as vnto the chefe heed:
2:14	other vnto rulars, as vnto them that are sent of hym, for the punysshement of euyll doars, but for the laude of them, that do well.
2:15	For so is the wyll of God, that wyth well doyng ye maye stoppe the mouthes of foolysh & ignoraunt men:
2:16	as fre, & not as hauinge the lybertie for a cloacke of maliciousnes, but euen as the seruauntes of God
2:17	Honoure all men. Loue brotherly feleshyppe. Feare God, honoure the kynge.
2:18	Seruauntes, obey your masters wt feare not onely yf they be good & courteous: but also though they be froward
2:19	For it is thanke worthye yf a man for conscience towarde God endure grefe, and suffer wrong vndeserued.
2:20	For what prayse is it, yf when ye be buffeted for your fautes, ye take it pacyently? But & yf when ye do well, ye suffer wronge & take it paciently, then is ther thanke wt God.
2:21	For here vnto verely were ye called: for Christ also suffered for vs leauynge vs an ensample, that ye shulde folowe his steppes,
2:22	whych dyd no synne, nether was there gyle found in hys mouth:
2:23	whych when he was reuyled, reuyled not agayne: when he suffered, he threatened not, but committed the vengeaunce to hym that iudgeth ryghteously
2:24	whych hys awne selfe bare our synnes in his body on the tree, that we beyng delyuered from synne, shuld lyue vnto ryghteousnes. By whose strypes ye were healed.
2:25	For ye were as shepe goyng astraye: but are now turned vnto the shepeherd and bysshope of youre soules.


2:1	Therfor putte ye awei al malice, and al gile, and feynyngis, and enuyes, and alle bacbityngis;
2:2	as now borun yonge children, resonable, with out gile, coueite ye mylk, that in it ye wexe in to helthe; if netheles ye han tastid,
2:3	that the Lord is swete.
2:4	And neiye ye to hym, that is a lyuyng stoon, and repreuyd of men, but chosun of God, and onourid;
2:5	and ye silf as quyk stoonys be ye aboue bildid in to spiritual housis, and an hooli preesthod, to offre spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God bi Jhesu Crist.
2:6	For which thing the scripture seith, Lo! Y schal sette in Syon the hiyeste corner stoon, chosun and preciouse; and he that schal belieue in hym, schal not be confoundid.
2:7	Therfor onour to you that bileuen; but to men that bileuen not, the stoon whom the bilderis repreuyden, this is maad in to the heed of the corner; and the stoon of hirtyng,
2:8	and stoon of sclaundre, to hem that offenden to the word, nethir bileuen it, in which thei ben set.
2:9	But ye ben a chosun kyn, a kyngli preesthod, hooli folc, a puple of purchasing, that ye telle the vertues of hym, that clepide you fro derknessis in to his wondirful liyt.
2:10	Which sum tyme were not a puple of God, but now ye ben the puple of God; which hadden not merci, but now ye han merci.
2:11	Moost dere, Y biseche you, as comelyngis and pilgrymys, to absteine you fro fleischli desiris, that fiyten ayens the soule;
2:12	and haue ye youre conuersacioun good among hethene men, that in that thing that thei bacbite of you, as of mysdoeris, thei biholden you of good werkis, and glorifie God in the dai of visitacioun.
2:13	Be ye suget to ech creature, for God; ethir to the kyng, as to hym that is hiyer in state,
2:14	ethir to duykis, as to thilke that ben sent of hym to the veniaunce of mysdoers, and to the preisyng of good men.
2:15	For so is the wille of God, that ye do wel, and make the vnkunnyngnesse of vnprudent men to be doumb.
2:16	As fre men, and not as hauynge fredom the keuering of malice, but as the seruauntis of God.
2:17	Onoure ye alle men, loue ye brithirhod, drede ye God, onoure ye the king.
2:18	Seruauntis, be ye sugetis in al drede to lordis, not oneli to good and to mylde, but also to tyrauntis.
2:19	For this is grace, if for conscience of God ony man suffrith heuynessis, and suffrith vniustli.
2:20	For what grace is it, if ye synnen, and ben buffatid, and suffren? But if ye don wel, and suffren pacientli, this is grace anentis God.
2:21	For to this thing ye ben clepid. For also Crist suffride for vs, and lefte ensaumple to you, that ye folewe the steppis of hym.
2:22	Which dide not synne, nethir gile was foundun in his mouth.
2:23	And whanne he was cursid, he curside not; whanne he suffride, he manasside not; but he bitook hym silf to hym, that demyde hym vniustli.
2:24	And he hym silf bar oure synnes in his bodi on a tre, that we be deed to synnes, and lyue to riytwisnesse, bi whos wan wounde ye ben heelid.
2:25	For ye weren as scheep errynge, but ye ben now turned to the schipherde, and bischop of youre soulis.

2:2	& as new borne babes desyre that reasonable mylke, which is without corrupcion, that ye maye growe therin,
2:3	yf so be that ye haue taisted how frendly the LORDE is.
2:4	Vnto whom ye are come, as to the lyuynge stone, which is disalowed of men, but chosen of God and precious.
2:5	And ye also as lyuynge stones are made a spirituall house, and an holy presthode, to offre vp spirituall sacrifices, acceptable vnto God by Iesus Christ.
2:6	Wherfore it is conteyned in the scripture: Beholde, I put in Sion an heade corner stone, electe & precious, and he that beleueth on him, shal not be cofounded.
2:7	Vnto you therfore which beleue, he is precious: but vnto them that beleue not, is ye same stone which the buylders refused, made the heade stone in the corner,
2:8	and a stone to stomble at, and a rock to be offended at, namely in the which stomble at ye worde, and beleue not that wheron they were set.
2:9	But ye are that chosen generacion, that kyngly presthode, that holy nacion, that peculier people, yt ye shulde shewe the vertues of him, which hath called you out of darknesse in to his maruelous lighte:

2:15	For so is the will of God, that ye with well doynge shulde put to sylence the ignoraunce of folishmen:
2:16	as fre, and not as hauynge the libertye for a cloke of wickednes, but eue as the seruauntes of God.
2:17	Honoure all men. Loue brotherly fellishippe. Feare God. Honoure the kynge.
2:18	Ye seruautes, obey youre masters with all feare: not onely yf they be good and curteous, but also though they be frowarde.
2:19	For that is grace, yf a man for conscience towarde God endure grefe, and suffre wronge.
2:20	For what prayse is it, yf wha ye be buffeted for yor fautes, ye take it paciently? But yf whan ye do well, ye suffre wronge, and take it paciently, that is grace with God.
2:21	For here vnto are ye called, for so moch as Christ also suffred for vs, leauynge vs an ensample, that ye shulde folowe his fotesteppes,
2:22	which dyd no synne, nether was there gyle founde in his mouth:
2:23	which whan he was reuyled, reuyled not agayne: wha he suffred, he threatened not: but commytted the cause vnto him, that iudgeth righteously:
2:24	which his owne selfe bare oure synnes in his body vpon the tre, that we shulde be delyuered from synne, & shulde lyue vnto righteousnes: by whose strypes ye were healed.
2:25	For ye were as shepe goinge astraye, but now are ye turned vnto the shepherde and Bisshoppe of youre soules.
