| 13:1 | And it came to passe after this, that Absalom the sonne of Dauid had a faire sister, whose name was Tamar: and Amnon the sonne of Dauid loued her. |
| 13:2 | And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sicke for his sister Tamar: for she was a virgine, and Amnon thought it hard for him to doe any thing to her. |
| 13:3 | But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Ionadab, the sonne of Shimeah, Dauids brother: and Ionadab was a very subtill man. |
| 13:4 | And he saide vnto him, Why art thou, being the Kings sonne, leane from day to day? Wilt thou not tel me? and Amnon said vnto him, I loue Tamar my brother Absaloms sister. |
| 13:5 | And Ionadab said vnto him, Lay thee downe on thy bed, and make thy selfe sicke: and when thy father commeth to see thee, say vnto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and giue me meat, and dresse the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eate it at her hand. |
| 13:6 | So Amnon lay downe, and made himselfe sicke: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said vnto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, & make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand. |
| 13:7 | Then Dauid sent home to Tamar, saying, Goe now to thy brother Amnons house, and dresse him meat. |
| 13:8 | So Tamar went to her brother Amnons house (and hee was laide downe) and she tooke flowre, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes. |
| 13:9 | And she tooke a pan, and powred them out before him, but hee refused to eate: and Amnon said, Haue out all men from mee: And they went out euery man from him. |
| 13:10 | And Amnon saide vnto Tamar, Bring the meate into the chamber, that I may eate of thine hand. And Tamar tooke the cakes which shee had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. |
| 13:11 | And when shee had brought them vnto him to eate, hee tooke hold of her, and said vnto her, Come lye with mee, my sister. |
| 13:12 | And she answered him, Nay, my brother, doe not force me: for no such thing ought to bee done in Israel; doe not thou this folly. |
| 13:13 | And I, whither shall I cause my shame to goe? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fooles in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, speake vnto the king, for he will not withhold me from thee. |
| 13:14 | Howbeit hee would not hearken vnto her voice, but being stronger then shee, forced her, and lay with her. |
| 13:15 | Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred wherwith he hated her, was greater then the loue wherewith hee had loued her: And Amnon said vnto her, Arise, be gone. |
| 13:16 | And she said vnto him, There is no cause: this euill in sending me away, is greater then the other that thou diddest vnto me: But he would not hearken vnto her. |
| 13:17 | Then hee called his seruant that ministred vnto him, and said, Put now this woman out from mee, and bolt the doore after her. |
| 13:18 | And shee had a garment of diuers colours vpon her: for with such robes were the Kings daughters, that were virgins, apparelled. Then his seruant brought her out, and bolted the doore after her. |
| 13:19 | And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of diuers colours that was on her, and layde her hand on her head, and went on, crying. |
| 13:20 | And Absalom her brother sayde vnto her, Hath Amnon thy brother beene with thee? But holde nowe thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother, regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absaloms house. |
| 13:21 | But when King Dauid heard of all these things, he was very wroth. |
| 13:22 | And Absalom spake vnto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. |
| 13:23 | And it came to passe after two full yeeres, that Absalom had sheepeshearers in Baal-Hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom inuited all the kings sonnes. |
| 13:24 | And Absalom came to the King, and said, Behold now, thy seruant hath sheepe-shearers, Let the King, I beseech thee, and his seruants, goe with thy seruant. |
| 13:25 | And the King sayde to Absalom, Nay, my sonne, let vs not all now goe, lest we be chargeable vnto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not goe, but blessed him. |
| 13:26 | Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon goe with vs. And the King said vnto him, Why should he goe with thee? |
| 13:27 | But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the kings sonnes goe with him. |
| 13:28 | Now Absalom had commanded his seruants, saying, Marke yee now when Amnons heart is merrie with wine, and when I say vnto you, Smite Amnon, then kill him, feare not: haue not I commanded you? be couragious, and be valiant. |
| 13:29 | And the seruants of Absalom did vnto Amnon as Absalom had commanded: then all the Kings sonnes arose, and euery man gate him vp vpon his mule, and fled. |
| 13:30 | And it came to passe while they were in the way, that tidings came to Dauid, saying, Absalom hath slaine all the Kings sonnes, and there is not one of them left. |
| 13:31 | Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth: and all his seruants stoode by with their clothes rent. |
| 13:32 | And Ionadab the sonne of Shimeah Dauids brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they haue slaine all the yong men the Kings sonnes; for Amnon onely is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath beene determined, from the day that he forced his sister Tamar. |
| 13:33 | Now therefore let not my lord the King take the thing to his heart, to thinke that all the Kings sonnes are dead: for Amnon onely is dead. |
| 13:34 | But Absalom fled: and the yong man that kept the watch, lift vp his eyes, and looked, and behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him. |
| 13:35 | And Ionadab said vnto the king, Behold, the kings sonnes come: as thy seruant said, so it is. |
| 13:36 | And it came to passe assoone as hee had made an ende of speaking, that behold, the kings sonnes came, and lift vp their voice, and wept; and the King also and all his seruants wept very sore. |
| 13:37 | But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the sonne of Ammihud king of Geshur: and Dauid mourned for his sonne euery day. |
| 13:38 | So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three yeeres. |
| 13:39 | And the soule of king Dauid longed to goe foorth vnto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead. |

| 13:5 | And Ionadab sayd vnto him, Lie downe on thy bed, and make thy selfe sicke: and when thy father shall come to see thee, say vnto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and giue me meate, and let her dresse meate in my sight, that I may see it, and eate it of her hand. |
| 13:6 | So Amnon lay downe, and made himselfe sicke: and when the King came to see him, Amnon sayde vnto the King, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may receiue meate at her hand. |
| 13:7 | Then Dauid sent home to Tamar, saying, Goe now to thy brother Amnons house, and dresse him meate. |
| 13:8 | So Tamar went to her brother Amnons house, and he lay downe: and she tooke floure, and knead it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes. |

| 13:13 | And I, whither shall I cause my shame to goe? and thou shalt be as one of the fooles in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, speake to the King, for he will not denie me vnto thee. |
| 13:14 | Howbeit he would not hearken vnto her voyce, but being stronger then she, forced her, and lay with her. |
| 13:15 | Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred wherewith he hated her, was greater then the loue, wherewith hee had loued her: and Amnon sayde vnto her, Vp, get thee hence. |

| 13:17 | But called his seruant that serued him, and sayd, Put this woman now out from me, and locke the doore after her. |

| 13:19 | And Tamar put ashes on her head and rent the garment of diuers colours which was on her, and layde her hand on her head, and went her way crying. |
| 13:20 | And Absalom her brother sayd vnto her, Hath Amnon thy brother bene with thee? Now yet be still, my sister: he is thy brother: let not this thing grieue thine heart. So Tamar remayned desolate in her brother Absaloms house. |
| 13:21 | But when King Dauid heard all these things, he was very wroth. |
| 13:22 | And Absalom sayde vnto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. |
| 13:23 | And after the time of two yeeres, Absalom had sheepesherers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim, and Absalom called all the Kings sonnes. |
| 13:24 | And Absalom came to the King and sayd, Beholde now, thy seruant hath sheepesherers: I pray thee, that the King with his seruants would goe with thy seruant. |
| 13:25 | But the King answered Absalom, Nay my sonne, I pray thee, let vs not goe all, lest we be chargeable vnto thee. Yet Absalom lay sore vpon him: howbeit he would not go, but thanked him. |
| 13:26 | Then sayd Absalom, But, I pray thee, shall not my brother Amnon goe with vs? And the king answered him, Why should he go with thee? |
| 13:27 | But Absalom was instant vpon him, and he sent Amnon with him, and all the Kings children. |
| 13:28 | Now had Absalom commanded his seruants, saying, Marke now when Amnons heart is merry with wine, and when I say vnto you, Smite Amnon, kill him, feare not, for haue not I commanded you? be bold therefore, and play the men. |
| 13:29 | And the seruantes of Absalom did vnto Amnon, as Absalom had commanded: and al the Kings sonnes arose, and euery man gate him vp vpon his mule, and fled. |
| 13:30 | And while they were in the way, tydings came to Dauid, saying, Absalom hath slaine al the Kings sonnes, and there is not one of them left. |
| 13:31 | Then the King arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the ground, and all his seruants stoode by with their clothes rent. |
| 13:32 | And Ionadab the sonne of Shimeah Dauids brother answered and sayde, Let not my lord suppose that they haue slayne all the yong men the Kings sonnes: for Amnon onely is dead, because Absalom had reported so, since hee forced his sister Tamar. |
| 13:33 | Nowe therefore let not my lord the King take the thing so grieuously, to thinke that all ye Kings sonnes are dead: for Amnon only is dead. |
| 13:34 | Then Absalom fled: and the yong man that kept the watch, lift vp his eyes, and looked, and behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behinde him. |
| 13:35 | And Ionadab said vnto the King, Behold, ye Kings sonnes come: as thy seruant sayd, so it is. |
| 13:36 | And assoone as hee had left speaking, behold, the Kings sonnes came, and lift vp their voyces, and wept: and the King also and all his seruants wept exceedingly sore. |
| 13:37 | But Absalom fled away, and went to Talmai the sonne of Ammihur King of Geshur: and Dauid mourned for his sonne euery day. |
| 13:38 | So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three yeeres. |
| 13:39 | And King Dauid desired to go forth vnto Absalom, because he was pacified concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead. |

| 13:5 | Ionadab sayde vnto him: laye the downe on thy bedde, & make thy selfe sicke. And when thy father is come to se the, saye vnto hym: Oh let my syster Thamar come, and geue me meate, & dresse it in my syght, that I maye se it and eate it of her hande. |
| 13:6 | And so Amnon laye downe, & made hym selfe sycke. And when the kynge was come to se him, Amnon sayde vnto him: Oh let Thamar my syster come, & make me a couple of frytters in my sygth, that I maye eate of her hande. |
| 13:7 | Then Dauid sent home to Thamar, sayeng: go now to thy brother Amnon house, and dresse him meate. |
| 13:8 | So Thamar wente to her brother Amnons house, and he was layed downe. And she toke floure, and made paste, and dressed frytters in his syght, & dyd bake them, |
| 13:9 | and toke a platter, & powred them out before him, but he wolde not eate. |
| 13:10 | And Amnon sayde: Haue out all men from me. And they went all out from hym. And Amnon sayde vnto Thamar: brynge the meate into the chambre, that I maye eate of thyne hand. And Thamar toke the frytters, whych she had made, & brought them into the chambre to Amnon her brother. |
| 13:11 | And whan she had set them before him, to eate, he toke her, and sayd vnto her: come lye wt me my syster. |
| 13:12 | And she answered him: nay my brother, do not force me, for there hath no such thinge bene done in Israel: do not thou this abhominacion. |
| 13:13 | For whither shall I be able to go wt my shame? And thou shalt be as one of the foles in Israel. O speake vnto the kynge, and he shall not denye me vnto the. |
| 13:14 | Howbeit he wolde not herken vnto her voyce but toke her, & forced her, and laye wt her. |
| 13:15 | And then Amnon hated her excedynglye: so that the hate wher wyth he hated her, was greater then the loue, wt which he before loued her. And Amnon sayde vnto her: vp, & get the hence. |
| 13:16 | She answered him: Thou hast no cause. This euell that thou puttest me awaye is greater then the other that thou dyddest vnto me. Neuerthelesse he wolde not heare her, |
| 13:17 | but called his boye that serued him, & sayd: put a waye this woman from me, & bolt the dore after her. |
| 13:18 | And she had a kirtell of diuerse coloures vpon her: for wt soche were the kynges daughters (that were virgines) appareled. Then his seruaunt brought her oute, and locked the dore after her. |
| 13:19 | And Thamar toke & put asshes on her heed, & rent her gaye kyrtell that was on her, & layed her hande on her heed, & so went: & as she went, cryed. |
| 13:20 | And Absalom her brother sayde vnto her: hath Amnon thy brother bene with the? Now yet be still my syster: he is thy brother. Let not this thynge greue thine hert And so Thamar remayned desolate in her brother Absaloms house. |
| 13:21 | But whan kynge Dauid heard of all these thinges, he was very wroth. |
| 13:22 | And Absalom sayde vnto hys brother Amnon nether good ner badd. Howbeit Absalom hated Amnon because he had forced hys syster Thamar. |
| 13:23 | And it happened after two yere, that Absalom had shepe shearers in the playne of Hazor besyde the trybe of Ephraim, & bad all the kynges sonnes, |
| 13:24 | and cam to the kyng, & sayd: beholde, thy seruaunt hath shepe sherers, let the kynge wt his seruauntes come to thy seruaunte. |
| 13:25 | The king answered Absalom: naye my sonne. We will not go all, ner be chargeable vnto the. And Absalom laye sore vpon hym: howbeit he wolde not go, but blessed hym. |
| 13:26 | Then sayd Absalom: Yf thou wylt not come, then let my brother Amnon go wt vs. And the kynge answered hym: what nedeth it, that he go wyth the? |
| 13:27 | But Absalom made soche instance that he let Amnon, & all the kynges chyldren go with hym. |
| 13:28 | Nowe had Absalom commaunded his younge men, sayenge: marke when Amnons hert is mery wyth wyne & when I byd you smyte Amnon, then kyll hym: and feare not, haue not I bydden you? be bolde therfore, & playe the men. |
| 13:29 | And the younge men of Absalom dyd vnto Amnon euen as Absalom had commaunded. And all the kynges sonnes arose, & euery man gat hym vp, vpon hys Mule, & fled. |
| 13:30 | And it fortuned, that whyle they were yet in the waye, tydynges cam to Dauid sayeng: Absalom hath slayne all the kynges sonnes, & there is none left alyue. |
| 13:31 | Then Dauid arose, & tare his garmentes, and laye along on the erth: & all his seruauntes stode by with theyr clothes rent. |
| 13:32 | And Ionadab the sonne of Simeah Dauids brother, answered, and sayde: let not my Lorde suppose that they haue slayne all the younge men the kynges sonnes, saue Amnon only is deed. For that hath bene determined in Absaloms mynde, sence he forced hys syster Thamar. |
| 13:33 | Nowe therfore, let not my Lorde the kynge take the thynge so greuouslye, to thincke that all the kinges sonnes are deed, saue Amnon only is deed. |
| 13:34 | But Absalom fled. And the younge man that kept the watche, lyfte vp hys eyes, and loked: And beholde, ther cam moche people by a waye, a longe by the hynder parte on an hylles syde. |
| 13:35 | And Ionadab sayde vnto the kynge: beholde, the kynges sonnes come: As thy seruaunt sayde, so it is. |
| 13:36 | And as sone as he had lefte speakynge: beholde, the kynges sonnes came, and lyfte vp theyr voyces, and wepte. The kynge also and all hys seruauntes wepte excedyngly. |
| 13:37 | But Absalom escaped, and went to Thalmai the sonne of Amihur kynge of Gesur. And Dauid mourned for hys sonne euery daye. |
| 13:38 | And so Absalom escaped and went to Gesur, and was there thre yeares. |
| 13:39 | And kynge Dauid desyred to go forth vnto Absalom: For where as Amnon was deed, he was comforted ouer hym. |
