| 25:1 | Amaziah was twentie and fiue yeeres olde when hee began to reigne, and hee reigned twentie and nine yeeres in Ierusalem, and his mothers name was Iehoadan of Ierusalem. |
| 25:2 | And hee did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfite heart. |
| 25:3 | Now it came to passe when the kingdome was established to him, that he slew his seruants, that had killed the king his father. |
| 25:4 | But hee slewe not their children, but did as it is written in the Law in the booke of Moses, where the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but euery man shall die for his owne sinne. |
| 25:5 | Moreouer, Amaziah gathered Iudah together, and made them Captaines ouer thousands, and captaines ouer hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Iudah and Beniamin: And he numbred them from twentie yeeres olde and aboue, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to goe foorth to warre, that could handle speare and shield. |
| 25:6 | Hee hired also an hundred thousand mightie men of valour, out of Israel, for an hundred talents of siluer. |
| 25:7 | But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the armie of Israel goe with thee: for the Lord is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim. |
| 25:8 | But if thou wilt goe, doe it, bee strong for the battell: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to helpe, and to cast downe. |
| 25:9 | And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall wee doe for the hundred talents which I haue giuen to the armie of Israel? And the man of God answered, The Lord is able to giue thee much more then this. |
| 25:10 | Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the armie that was come to him out of Ephraim, to goe home againe. Wherfore their anger was greatly kindled against Iudah, and they returned home in great anger. |
| 25:11 | And Amaziah strengthened himselfe, and ledde foorth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir, ten thousand. |
| 25:12 | And other ten thousand left aliue, did the children of Iudah cary away captiue, and brought them vnto the top of the rocke, and cast them downe from the top of the rocke, that they all were broken in pieces. |
| 25:13 | But the souldiers of the army which Amaziah sent backe, that they should not goe with him to battell, fell vpon the cities of Iudah, from Samaria euen vnto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoile. |
| 25:14 | Now it came to passe, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that hee brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them vp to be his gods, and bowed down himselfe before them, and burned incense vnto them. |
| 25:15 | Wherfore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and hee sent vnto him a Prophet, which said vnto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliuer their owne people out of thine hand? |
| 25:16 | And it came to passe as hee talked with him, that the king said vnto him, Art thou made of the Kings counsell? forbeare; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the Prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened vnto my counsell. |
| 25:17 | Then Amaziah king of Iudah tooke aduice, and sent to Ioash the sonne of Iehoahaz the sonne of Iehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let vs see one another in the face. |
| 25:18 | And Ioash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Iudah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon, sent to the Cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Giue thy daughter to my sonne to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode downe the thistle. |
| 25:19 | Thou sayest, Loe, thou hast smitten the Edomites, and thine heart lifteth thee vp to boast. Abide now at home, why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, euen thou, and Iudah with thee? |
| 25:20 | But Amaziah would not heare: for it came of God, that he might deliuer them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom. |
| 25:21 | So Ioash the King of Israel went vp, and they saw one another in the face, both hee and Amaziah King of Iudah at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Iudah. |
| 25:22 | And Iudah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled euery man to his tent. |
| 25:23 | And Ioash the king of Israel tooke Amaziah king of Iudah the son of Ioash, the son of Ioahaz, at Bethshemesh, and brought him to Ierusalem, and brake downe the wall of Ierusalem, from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, foure hundred cubits. |
| 25:24 | And hee tooke all the gold and the siluer, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the kings house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria. |
| 25:25 | And Amaziah the sonne of Ioash King of Iudah liued after the death of Ioash sonne of Iehoahaz king of Israel, fifteene yeeres. |
| 25:26 | Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the booke of the Kings of Iudah and Israel? |
| 25:27 | Now after the time that Amaziah did turne away from following the Lord, they made a conspiracie against him in Ierusalem, and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there. |
| 25:28 | And they brought him vpon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the citie of Iudah. |

| 25:6 | He hyred also an hundreth thousand valiant men out of Israel for an hundreth talents of siluer. |

| 25:8 | If not, goe thou on, doe it, make thy selfe strong to the battel, but God shall make thee fall before the enemie: for God hath power to helpe, and to cast downe. |
| 25:9 | And Amaziah sayde to the man of God, What shall we doe then for the hundreth talents, which I haue giuen to the hoste of Israel? Then the man of God answered, The Lord is able to giue thee more then this. |
| 25:10 | So Amaziah separated them, to wit, the armie that was come to him out of Ephraim, to returne to their place: wherefore their wrath was kindled greatly against Iudah, and they returned to their places with great anger. |
| 25:11 | Then Amaziah was encouraged, and led forth his people, and went to the salt valley, and smote of the children of Seir, ten thousand. |
| 25:12 | And other ten thousand did the children of Iudah take aliue, and caryed them to the top of a rocke, and cast them downe from the top of the rocke, and they all burst to pieces. |
| 25:13 | But the men of the armie, which Amaziah sent away, that they should not goe with his people to battell, fell vpon the cities of Iudah from Samaria vnto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and tooke much spoyle. |

| 25:16 | And as he talked with him, he said vnto him, Haue they made thee the Kings counseler? cease thou: why should they smite thee? And the Prophet ceased, but said, I knowe that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not obeyed my counsell. |
| 25:17 | Then Amaziah King of Iudah tooke counsell, and sent to Ioash the sonne of Iehoahaz, the sonne of Iehu King of Israel, saying, Come, let vs see one another in the face. |
| 25:18 | But Ioash King of Israel sent to Amaziah King of Iudah, saying, The thistle that is in Lebanon, sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, Giue thy daughter to my sonne to wife: and the wilde beast that was in Lebanon went and trode downe the thistle. |
| 25:19 | Thou thinkest: lo, thou hast smitten Edom, and thine heart lifteth thee vp to bragge: abide now at home: why doest thou prouoke to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, and Iudah with thee? |
| 25:20 | But Amaziah would not heare: for it was of God, that he might deliuer them into his had, because they had sought the gods of Edom. |
| 25:21 | So Ioash the King of Israel went vp: and he, and Amaziah King of Iudah saw one another in the face at Bethshemesh, which is in Iudah. |
| 25:22 | And Iudah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled euery man to his tents. |
| 25:23 | But Ioash the King of Israel tooke Amaziah King of Iudah, the sonne of Ioash, the sonne of Iehoahaz in Bethshemesh, and brought him to Ierusalem, and brake downe the wall of Ierusalem, from the gate of Ephraim vnto the corner gate, foure hundreth cubites. |

| 25:1 | Amaziahu was .xxv. yere olde, when he beganne to raynge, and he raynged .xxix. yere in Ierusalem. Hys mothers name was Iehodadan of Ierusalem. |

And he nombred them from twentye yere olde and aboue, and founde amonge them, thre hundred thousande chosen men, able to go to battell, and that coulde handle speare and shylde. |

| 25:7 | And there came a man of God to him, and sayde: O kynge, let not the armye of Israel come with the: for the Lorde is not with Israel, nether with all the house of Ephraim. |
| 25:8 | But yf thou wylt nedes be faythlesse, come on, and take the batell in hande, and God shall make the fall before the enemie. For God hath power to helpe, & to cast downe. |
| 25:9 | And Amaziahu sayde to the man of God: what shall we do then, for the hundred talentes, which I haue geuen for the hoste of Israel? The man of God answered: the Lorde is able to geue the moche more then they be. |
| 25:10 | And Amaziahu seuered them to the armie that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home agayne. Wherfore they were exceadynge wroth with Iuda, and returned home in greate angre. |
| 25:11 | And Amaziahu toke hert and caryed out hys people, and went to the salt valley, and smote of the chyldren of Seir ten thousande. |
| 25:12 | And other ten thousande dyd the chyldren of Iuda take alyue, and caryed them vnto the toppe of a rocke, and cast them downe from the toppe of the rocke, that they all to burst: |
| 25:13 | but the souldyers of the armye which Amaziahu sent awaye, that they shulde not go wt his people to battell, fell vpon the cyties of Iuda, from Samaria vnto Bethhoron, & smote thre thousande of them, & toke moche spoyle. |
| 25:14 | And it chaunced, after that Amaziahu was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the Gods of the chyldren of Seir, & set them vp to be hys Gods, and bowed hym selfe before them: and burned encense vnto them. |
| 25:15 | Wherfore the Lorde was wroth with Amaziahu and sent vnto hym a prophete, whych sayd vnto hym: why hast thou sought the Gods of the people, which were not able to delyuer theyr awne people out of thyne hande? |
| 25:16 | And it chaunced, that as the prophete talked with hym the kynge sayde vnto hym: haue men made the of the kynges councell? cease, why wylt thou be beaton? And the prophete ceased and sayde: I am sure that God is mynded to destroye the, because thou hast done this, and agreest not vnto my councell. |
| 25:17 | Then Amaziahu kynge of Iuda toke aduise, and sent to Ioas the sonne of Ichoahaz the sonne of Iehu kyng of Israel, & sayde come, that we maye se ether other. |
| 25:18 | And Ioas kynge of Israel sent to Amaziahu kynge of Iuda, sayinge: a thystell that is in Libanon, sent to a Cedar tree of Libanon, saying, geue thy daughter to my sonne to wyfe. And there came a wylde beast of Libanon, & troad downe the thystell. |
| 25:19 | Thou sayest that thou hast beaten the Edomites, and thyne hert maketh the proude, to glorify thy selfe. Nowe therfore byde at home: why dost thou prouoke vnto euell, that thou mayest perisshe, both thou and Iuda with the? |
| 25:20 | But Amaziahu wolde not herken to him: for it came of God, euen to deliuer them into the hande of theyr enemyes because they sought councell at the Gods of Edom. |
| 25:21 | And so Ioas the kynge of Israel came vp: and they sawe ether other, both he and Amaziahu kynge of Iuda at Bethsames which is in Iuda. |
| 25:22 | And Iuda was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled euery man to his tent. |
| 25:23 | And Ioas the kynge of Israel toke Amaziahu kyng of Iuda the sonne of Ioahas the sonne of Iehoahas at Bethsames: and brought hym to Ierusalem, & tare the walle of Ierusalem (from the gate of Ephraim vnto the gate that was ouer agaynst it) foure hundred cubytes. |
| 25:24 | And he toke awaye also all the golde and syiner, and all the Iewelles that were founde in the house of God with Obed Edom, and the treasures of the kynges house, & the yonge wardes, and returned to Samaria. |
| 25:25 | And Amaziahu the sonne of Ioas kynge of Iuda lyued after the deeth of Ioas sonne of Iehoahaz king of Israel fiftene yere. |
